  1. My interactions with Trell are exclusively through the relay, as I haven't had the time to play in a bit. However, here's my current perception of her - She comes across as an unstable, cynical mad-scientist type. Her mood also seems fairly unpredictable, changing from unusually open to unusually hostile to other characters. I think you've done a good job at breathing life into her, while some of her plots can come across as almost cartoonishly 'wacky', you also know when to play her seriously and reveal some of the flaws and worries that trouble her. You do a great job of improv-ing stuff about her life, for example the various projects she's working on, or the hobbies she enjoys, and I appreciate how you encourage roleplay with other characters through trying to get them involved in Trell's plots. In terms of improvements, sometimes when you choose to reveal Trell's more serious side can be somewhat out of the blue, which may be intentional regarding how you tend to play her as unstable. Finding a smoother transition for when to play her seriously/wacky may be something to work on. I can see this as a product of her loneliness, as she seems to push away those who try to get close to her out of fear (which I also think is a great character flaw to explore), but it's still something I figured I'd mention. Recently she seems more friendly than previously, and I think these transitions seem less like random oversharing as a result. Regardless, I think Trell is a great fleshed out character, and I look forward to see where you choose to take her. If all characters were purely 'nice and friendly', the game would be much less interesting, so I appreciate that you've made a flawed and interesting character to interact with others.
  2. Ioraks is a fun character, and I enjoy his IC-shitposting. You've certainly fleshed him out to feel like a three dimensional character that happens to be childish, and not to the point of being gimmicky. My main criticism is that it's sometimes possible to forget he's a Unathi, and not a human with scales and claws. I'd offer more concrete advice on where to improve in regards to this, but I'm not sure what specifically to pin down. Perhaps some of his views feel 'too' human, and I recognize he's one of the more human-custom-friendly Unathi, so this might not even be unintended.
  3. As someone who's played a lot of persistence, I'd love to see this feature also make its way onto Aurora. One of the hardest parts about getting involved in a new server is having to first read up on the lore - quick blurbs would allow people to form an idea for characters and jump into the action without being scared away by walls of text. Not a fan of mechanical constraints, but regarding blurbs, +1.
  4. I can't give someone a more enthusiastic +1. Doxx is always a great time to roleplay with, and each of their characters are both interesting and unique. The reason I think they're so well suited for a command role is their OOC attitude - They are incredibly willing to take criticism to heart, and constantly work to create engaging stories that involve as many players as possible. I imagine that in a command role, they'd have more power to organize events, and I know they'll take full advantage of this opportunity. Speaking more of their attitude, they are patient and understanding, which is perfect for helping guide new players. They know when to cut off anything that makes people uncomfortable, and I have full faith they'll excel as a Head of Staff. Now, commenting on Beatrix- I tend to like command officers who 'pull the strings' rather than try to do the jobs of those under them, so it's great that you've mentioned the importance of this. She seems like a 'hidden heart of gold' character, and I think those kinds of characters work well with command roles. I look forward to see her in-game.
  5. I wanna second the recommendation to add another eval room for physical evals if you've got space - I've run into the problem where it's stalled on extended rounds. Looks great though, really appreciate the changes to the ORs, and the increased desk space. Nice job!
  6. This is an excellent idea, I like setting solars as backup, but always felt they were kinda pointless due to their weak power output. +1 Also, since it looks like it'd take a ton of wires, would you consider adding anywhere else to obtain wires for solars?
  7. Doxxmedearly is one of the best roleplayers I've had the pleasure to meet in this game. They're a ton of fun to roleplay with, and tend to arrange events that can draw the attention of the entire station. They also have an excellent attitude towards roleplaying and helping new players get the gist of the game, which I feel is something important for a whitelist owner to have, as they'll also be serving as a model for the species. Therefore, regarding characterizations and roleplay ability, they deserve a strong +1. I'm not super familiar with Tajaran lore, but I have just a few questions regarding playing Nahjiya: How do you plan to demonstrate her poor grasp on basic ingame? You mentioned she'll live in District 6, how will you plan to show the hardship she faces there, or how does she deal with the current chaos in that part of Mendell? Does she have experience interacting with gangs (if she's prone to fall for propaganda and is very idealist)? I think you've done a good job depicting how she'll come off personality wise, and I could ask about hobbies she does, but I don't think that's really needed for this application. Best of luck!
  8. I've played with Furrycactus before, and they're great at making believable, realistic characters. They know when to share the spotlight in roleplay, and that is incredibly valuable trait to have in a game like SS13. I have full faith that they'll have no problem keeping in character and fleshing out Su'kath, so +1 regarding roleplay-abilities. I'm not super familiar with Unathi lore, so instead I'll ask questions regarding your characterization of Su'kath: You emphasize that Su'kath joined Aurora to see the stars - How do you plan to portray this in roleplay? Will he try to find excuses to go EVA, or receive EVA training? Will he patrol near mining and science to ask stories of other characters? What kind of hobbies has he picked up relating to his star-obsession - photography, sketching? Also, what other kind of hobbies does he have? I understand he's interested in being a warrior - was he influenced at all by the human/skrellian culture's ideas of warriors, due to his life growing up on Ouerea? How will he deal with interacting with other aliens on this station, as well - is he comfortable with humans/skrell, or even Moghes-born Unathi?
  9. Thanks for the quick reply - I was planning on playing him mainly as a chef, though given his qualification he could realistically play a chemist as well. I understand Skrell are capable of job-hopping, but his interests are more nutritional research focused than medicine, and I wouldn't see him enjoying drug production as much. I'll have to see how it goes in game. Regarding sterilization - Since extensive treatments are required, he'd decided to only undergo it after finding a Quualt'Shriapt. However, Qlglinshi wasn't the most sociable on the Joolb, he's a workaholic and perfectionist, and formed plenty of Quualt'Yiilet-s, but not any actual romantic relationships. His closest chance of that was in university - but even then, he put his studies over his relationships. He's somewhat guilty as he knows he probably should work harder at ensuring there's a future lineage of Skrell, but allows his perfectionist desires to reign over his life.
  10. Huge, huge +1 to this. I am an incredible fan of Integrated electronics, and giving more power to science to mess around with this will allow for more cool inventions. Honestly, the only thing I'd want for is a port - anything else would be extra that I don't expect. I know that there's a couple things on /tg/ that won't be portable (Like the VOX Voice module), but I'd at least like to see the extra manipulation/smart/Inputs/Outputs, and stuff like the string/data-type converters, and flip flops. I think bay is also working on a port of these new circuits too, but their use of brainmed might mean that code might not be any easier to port than /tg/'s. This mechanic is incredibly powerful - I think you could even make a Turing machine in SS13. I'd love to see the crazy shenanigans people can use with an expanded toolkit like this, and I'm sure it can also lead to great science-based antagging. Might want to nerf the thrower component though, if you're worried about it being used to gib people with glass - It's a little bit broken, but fun.
  11. Zaeperry99 is maybe one of the best roleplayers I know - And 8/10 is pretty modest, in my opinion. They put a ton of effort into fleshing out the characters they play by really doing work into researching hobbies and religions, and are excellent at improv-ing and facilitating roleplay. I've only really seen their character, Naomi Ray, but I know they really have a good grip on the mechanics, and I have full faith that they can handle the knowledge required from a command role. Speaking now on Barker, an understanding, helpful command staff is always great to see, I'm a fan of boss-characters that are so nice, you'd feel bad disappointing them by messing up. However, I want to know - how will he deal with someone who risks the life of the crew through uncaring negligence? What about people that will try to abuse his kindness, and walk over him? To sum this up, Zaeperry99 is absolutely a wonderful role model of a roleplayer, and I think they completely deserve a command whitelist. I'm sure they'll find fun tasks to assign other engineers as a CE, and I look forward to see what they come up with. A strong +1.
  12. Well, through emotes, excessive cleaning, and different tactics. One of the ideas I was playing with is ditching the janicart and stuffing bags, pockets and hands with everything and anything else. Also doing what Menown does; wiping windows and tables down with rags, things that other janitors might not necessarily do. Though Hyisi is a clean-freak, this does not mean they do not have other interests. They are interested, especially considering their age, in other species, cultures and the like. As for his germaphobia intensifying, let's just say Hyisi is not a fan of insects especially. Hyisi is devoted to their work, with other interests being non-physical. Though it sounds generic, they enjoy studying, but not associating with the cultures of other species. Sorry for the short answers, in a bit of a hectic situation but wanted to get some answers out. I can elaborate if needed. No worries, if things are intense right now I don't wanna bug you too much. I'm still interested in what specific parts of other cultures Hyisi is into (Alien history nerd? Movie fanatic? How about martial arts?), but if you're still working that stuff out, I understand. Anyways, cool concept, I'm a fan. +1
  13. Hey, haven't interacted with your characters, but I'm a fan of your character concept. Just have a couple questions about your character: -A skrell janitor feels like a fun idea, so how will you apply the scientific view of the skrell towards janitorial work? Will Hyisi actively study new methods for optimal cleaning efficiency? How will you demonstrate their techniques such that they differ from a human janitor? -Hyisi is incredibly young - Why did he decide to enter human space? Was he unable to find work in skrell space, or did he hope to be better understood among aliens? Also, does his germaphobia intensify around aliens? They likely smell much different from what he's used to, and being in alien space will expose him to new, alien germs. -What kind of activities does Hyisi enjoy? He's been born in the era after Skrell/Human contact, so was he raised around any human 'ancient' culture?
  14. BYOND Key: Elianabeth Character Names: Tristen Wolff, Simon Coburn, Elvin Fox Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Dark blue or Muddy Brown (Unsure yet) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yep Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Out of all the alien races, I find the Skrell to be one of the most 'alien'. I find that a problem sometimes when it comes to aliens is that they appear far too 'human', which makes sense since no actual alien is playing SS13. Skrell's speech seems alien, and their worldview I feel will be interesting to play and should differ enough from other humans in order to provide an interesting experience. They're also asexual, which I feel is easier for me to play. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They're prideful, not willing to engage in arguments or fight unless they're certain they can win. They also come off as emotionally cold, despite actually having an expressive range of emotions. I find it challenging and fun to express an emotional character in a stunted way, as in general Skrell-dialogue seems fun to roleplay. I also enjoy expressing Sci-Fi ideas within SS13, and due to their view of implants, I think it could present good improv-opportunities to talk about the futuristic technology and culture they live with. Character Name: Qlglinshi Glul-Joolb Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Qlglinshi was born on Jargon IV in 2331, the only surviving egg of his parent's first cluster, to a world that had just begun recovering in the aftermath of the Glorsh Rebellion. His parents were traditionalist followers of Qeblak, and instilled a deep desire on Qlglinshi to unlock the secrets of the stars for himself. Both his parents worked on navy technology - His mother on implants, his father on ship engines. As a child, he was captivated with naval ships and weapons, hope against the return of atrocities of the past. However, he did not have faith he could become an effective footsoldier, as the early anti-sterilization treatment his parents received still left him genetically weakened. Instead, when accepted to University of Qeeglios in 2351, he pursued PhDs in Nutritional Sciences and Chemistry, hoping to use these skills to guarantee the strength of others. After he graduated in 2384, he sought out employment on a naval ship in the Traverse, and ended up employed as Head of Nutritional Affairs aboard the FSS Joolb. While not a soldier, he still benefited from minor implants to improve his hand-eye coordination and ambidexterity, encouraging him to always seek to better both himself and his work. In 2413, like many other Skrell, Qlglinshi was fascinated with news of contact with Humans. For the past approximately thirty years, he had put his effort into determining ways to most efficiently provide optimal nutrition through the use of food pills, but he was becoming bored with the limited tastes of his crew. He knew that if he wanted to grow as an intellectual, he would need to challenge himself, and studying the needs of a completely alien species seemed the best way to do so. He vowed that, as soon as his current work contract finished, he'd find employment in a facility that would properly test his skills. In 2455, he left the FSS Joolb for human space, but paid respect to the discipline and techniques he developed aboard it by amending it to his surname. After brushing up on human culinary techniques at Cypress University in Mendell, he signed an employment contract with NanoTrasen in 2460 and found himself aboard the NSS Aurora as a Chef. What do you like about this character? Qlglinshi is a very proud, perfectionist ex-navy chef. He's pretentious and challenge-seeking. I feel he presents fun opportunities for cook-offs, striving to create the most complex dishes to appease those who dare doubt his cooking abilites. I hope his style of cooking - namely through using food pills - will also provide for entertaining interactions with the crew. Qlglinshi is also a bit too bold - He assumes he'll be able to handle interactions with completely alien cultures, and I feel it should be fun to see how he manages the culture clash he'll face aboard the Aurora. Despite his rough exterior, he also has a soft side - He's a huge chump for Skrellian sappy war-hero movies, and enjoys three dimensional water painting to relax. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 6/10 - I think I'm able to make slightly 'out there' characters that are still fleshed out and can be believable people, but sometimes I have a hard time roleplaying certain situations (for example, PainRP, or extreme grief). Other times, if things become incredibly hectic, I can freeze up and not know quite how to respond to a situation. Lastly, I cannot roleplay romance, which is a weakness I'll always have. I've gotten over the basic pitfalls (super edgy characters and self inserts), but I still have a lot to improve on.
  15. My interactions with Paradox have been positive - I think they have a lot of good ideas in terms of characters, and I've enjoyed roleplaying with them. I'm a fan of the character concept for Flavius. I certainly think I'd be interesting to see a captain manage 'from the shadows', only really communicating via holocomms. The whole ex-HoS thing makes me think Flavius would be fairly disciplined and serious, but from asking for more elaboration it sounds like Flavius is the kind of character who had these responsibilities forced onto him, and now as a Captain it's his opportunity to lead but in a much more relaxed environment. Mixed with his regret of his past with ATLAS, I feel this will be an interesting character that I'd like to see on the station, and he seems well-rounded with a realistic past. +1
