Forum Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: ArcBot Preferred means of contact: Discord Age: 18 Timezone: EST How often do you visit/use our forums?: I visit the forums at least five times a day, possibly even more. Experience How long have you been with our community: Two months, a little over maybe? Do you have any experience in forum moderation or administration?: No, but I would love to learn how to moderate a forum, I mean I assume it's only dealing with reported posts, and moving posts to the appropriate forums, etc. Have you ever been banned from our server or forum, and if so, how long and why?: I have not been banned from the forum, nor the server. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I love the mechanics of space station 13, the role play, and the whole idea of being a crew on a space station trying to survive. Why do you play on Aurora?: I honestly play on Aurora for it's robust(heavy) role playing. It's also got an amazing community, I've met a few good friends here now. What do moderators do?: They moderate the forums, keeping them clean of spam and dealing with any reported posts in a timely manner. They are also able to lock, move, and delete threads. What does it mean to be a moderator for our community?: It means you're representing the forums/community and should show the best respect and helpful attitude you can. Not making any bias decisions. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I honestly think it would be pretty cool to be a forum moderator, help out the community a bit more. I would have applied for developer, but Skull, Akrilla, LordFowl and Nanako are much more capable then me. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: Qualities? I don't know to be honest. I'm modest, and I do my best to improve myself when criticism is given to me. I'm also very easy to get along with, even if I have a bad day, I'll always apologize if I feel I made someone upset, or uncomfortable. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I just ignore them, if it's a direct insult to me it goes in one ear out the other, and I move on. I learned this from my first week on Aurora when dealing with an IPC I just couldn't get along with and got in a little argument with staff over it. Anything Else You Want to Add: Well, I think I can catch on quickly helping moderate the forums, nothing much else to say. (I'm sorry I couldn't find where to set the prefix of this thread to "forum moderator")

[Approved] SirCatnip's Head of Staff Application
ArcBot replied to Catnip's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Dylan is cool stuff, he knows how to roleplay and I've never had an issue with him, but he didn't address Xanders issue yet so I'm keeping it neutral, for now. Two sentences don't count as a paragraph ;p -

I can't say I've seen any of your characters. You should try to play a bit more often. -
[Resolved] Character complaint - BLANK-BOT (Skaterboybob)
ArcBot replied to Bedshaped's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
He's one of the most disrespectful players I've met. His roleplay is terrible, one round I was playing my bartender IPC (Booters) and BLANK was at the bar whining about a robot love story of some sort. One of my customers said he shouldn't be able to feel love and that's when he screamed "I can fucking feel love!" and began punching the person in the head four times. It was pretty shocking to most people he was even accepted for the whitelist -
Reporting Personnel: Jack Davidson Rank of Reporting Personnel: Research Director Personnel Involved: - BLANK-BOT (Offender/Skaterboybob) Time of Incident: Real time: 4:22 EST 5/28/2016 Location of Incident: Research Department Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [x]Neglect of Duty []Harassment []Assault []Misconduct [x]Other (Disrespect to his head of staff.) Overview of the Incident: BLANK-BOT a scientist at the time boarded the station and twenty minutes later I asked them to report in. After five minutes of arguing about that, they told me they were on a break. Yet they hadn't even started any research in the department. I told BLANK-BOT they're not to take a break until they work first and no response. When he did finally arrive to research he went to Research and Development which was already completed, and tried acting as if that was the only occupation he was capable of. I told him to get to work in another section of research whether it be telescience, or toxins research. Which I've seen him do both on prior shifts. After I said that about thirty seconds later a crew transfer shuttle was being sent from the Odin to pick us up for transfer, so I didn't have time to file a demotion form for neglect of duty. Did you report it to a Head of Staff or IAA? If so, who?: I did not have time to report it to the Captain. Additional notes: On a prior shift working as BLANK-BOTs research director, I asked him to close an airlock in toxins mixing research which he didn't do for about three minutes. So I took it upon myself to head inside and do it, when I got inside he then opened the exterior airlock instantly filling the atmosphere with phoron, causing me to go completely blind which I needed surgery to fix, and having to shut down the research department for thirty minutes to have it breached and cleared out. His excuse was his hydraulic pump failed and he hit the wrong button, if that's the case I don't feel BLANK-BOTs chassis is safe enough to be working inside Research. Even being an accident something like phoron spreading through the department is not good, and in some cases can even be very deadly if ignited.

[Accepted] Jessica_Stark's IPC App (4MB3R)
ArcBot replied to Jessica_Stark's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Alright, so at this time she had her powercell inside her chassis? Who removed it when she got to departures? Sorry, I'm just nitpicking I have no objections because I see J4D3(Jade) around a lot and all around you roleplay a good cyborg. I just think your backstory needs a little work. -
[Accepted] DatBerry's Vore-Kah Application
ArcBot replied to DatBerry's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I've never had issues with any of Dats characters and he roleplays just fine, I think it would be cool to see more Vaurca around the station. +1 -
I would like to point out, Nanako has already actively been fixings bugs and attempting to find new ones to fix. https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pulls

I also took the same picture lol so it's not a big deal. http://puu.sh/p3B5g/a60b7d0050.png

Garn is a cool dude, I see Akhmar Ahmed in science a lot and never have any problems with him not role playing. Even if his character is rude ;p +1 from me.

[Accepted] Lucychan42's Head of Staff Whitelist
ArcBot replied to Lucychan42's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Aerianna Blackthorne, this name sticks out the most to me and I can't say I've ever see them causing any problems. They're a great roleplayer and I honestly thought she was able to play CMO already. +1 from me. -
I'm all for this, I love coming to the library and reading random books. It would be cool if the books I read were written by players from Aurora.

[Accepted] Complete Garbage's Skrell Whitelist Application

Brooks Lockwood is always a nice Research Director to have around, not to bossy and lets you do your own thing. I see no reason they shouldn't get on this whitelist. +1 -

What were your old ckeys if I might ask? Or is this your only one? -
Imho, yeah he should just get a warning for that. If he was talking about raping her physically or something sure, I could see a ban. But if what he said was "your mind" I see that as another way of "I'm fucking with your head" that's just me though.

[Accepted] ArcBot - Head of Staff Application V2
ArcBot replied to ArcBot's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
"Harry Ann get the fuck back to toxins with those bombs now!!" Lmfao I remember that round like it happened yesterday! -
BYOND key: ArcBot Character names: Jack Davidson, Ka'Akaix'Reed Zo'ra(Vaurca), Booters(IPC), Rusty(IPC), Tobor(IPC), E.L.L.I.E(pAI) How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Two months? Maybe just under three. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Honestly, I play a lot of my characters in the research department and most of my time is spent there. I would love nothing more then to be able to show my characters capability of being able to lead the research staff, and follow/enforce station directives/standard operating procedure. Why did you come to Aurora?: Like my first app mentioned, I came from the LLJK servers so the style of roleplay was much different, rounds were very fast paced, and you almost always end up dying or the station would get rekt to shit. Even the RP LLJK server wasn't satisfying enough being nearly identical to low-rp if non at all. That's when I first joined Aurora because of it being heavy roleplay. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes I have read the wiki. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay to me is about acting and speaking as if you are the character you're portraying in your occupation. Putting full emotion and detail in the way you speak, to the way you interact with others to make it seem realisitic. Creating your character you're going to roleplay is an important step to, making a realistic backstory, and then roleplaying how you think they would act had you been in their situation. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think the OOC purpose of a head of staff is to show guidance to obvious new players who want to learn a new role in your department. Letting them know if they're not following directives or doing their job in an un-safe manner. You're also tasked with making sure your department operates to its full ability, since other departments will be relying on your staff. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I think the OOC responsibilities for Heads of Staff is to make sure your staff are able to complete their jobs, many needing your access or approval for a variety of things. Showing you can actually stay the entire round without going to cryogenicstorage because you're bored. If you take on the position, you should be able to wait the round out unless of course real life matters call. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Jack Davidson Character age: 39 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Jack was born into a rather wealthy family with his father being a Research Director, and his mother being a scientist. His parents met when his father was avidly looking for scientists to work in New Gibson making advanced AI components. His father living in Mendell City, and his mother living in Phoenixport decided to move into a home together when they were in there mid thirties. They thought about where in Biesel they would like to live and settle down, ultimately deciding they wanted to try somewhere new, this is when they thought of Kasri the capital of Eos. When they did purchase a house and settled down Mrs. Davidson wanted a child, thinking about it daily and bringing it up to Jacks father. They opted it was the right time in there lives, and they were financially fit to become parents. When Jack was born and growing up, he was always interested in what his parents did, constantly begging them to take him to their work on days he was out of school. By the time Jack was 18 and out of highschool, he was already accepted to a college in his city. He attended college for four years to get his cybernetics bachelors degree, so he could work as a roboticist or an assistant to one. When he did acquire his degree at the age of 22, he began looking for work among the stations in tau ceti. He couldn't find work with his degree because all the positions for a roboticist were filled across the stations, frustrated he took the time while waiting to work as an assistant to his dad in the biodomes making no money. In it only for the experience Jack was eager to hear a new station was announcing its opening and he applied right away to become a roboticist. He was eager to hear back from them and was told they would have him work alongside another roboticist in maintaining and upgrading cyborgs. When the station finally opened up he was 23, and working, making enough money to move out of his parents and get an apartment in Mendell City. Two years into working as a roboticist, Jack met someone who was working on the research outpost as an anomalist, they shared alot of stories with him, and it intrigued him enough to attend university in Mendell City to get a PhD. While he was attending the university he did night shifts as the roboticist since his day was always packed full of studies, and homework. Making just enough money to get by, he managed to suffer through the six years to get his PhD in anomalist materials studies. Already working as a roboticist on the station for eight years, with his new PhD he was able to talk the head of personnel into a job change and moved to the research outpost to work as an anomalist. Learning many new things while working in the field, and completing many studies he loved his new found job. One year while working he came along an odd artifact that teleported him into space, outside of the station. With little time to spare, and his lungs caving in on him, he screamed out on his radio for telescience to use a GPS to find his coordinates and teleport him back immediately. By the time they got him back and to a doctor, he had a ruptured lung and required surgery. He ended up taking a year off work, and when he came back he was upset to hear a new anomalist has taken over. He thought of this as a good time to meet new people and try applying as a scientist on the NSS Exodus since he could cover more then one field in research. He started working on the Exodus and met some great friends, even joining an organization named SAMPLe. To this day Jack can be found on the Exodus in the research division. What do you like about this character?: I like Jack is a knowledgable and helpful co-worker, always willing to help out someone new. He's much more improved then my other characters I play, since I put more time into him. He's a very curios scientist who loves to do crazy experiments and test odd theories. What do you dislike about this character?: Honestly there isn't much I don't like about Jack, maybe the fact he doesn't actually go out and mingle with the crew, usually staying in Research talking with other scientists and staff in the department. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I think his ability to operate a couple of the occupations in the research department helps him, he's straight headed, yet still fun to be around. Although he may not agree with authority sometimes, he never dis-obeys it. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would say my roleplaying has improved in the aspect of being more helpful and productive. Still could use more improvement on using /me and acting out more actions but I'm getting the hang of it. Extra notes: Well this is version two, and I've made sure the characters I play now are nothing like Tom was, hopefully I'm more suitable to represent the server by being a head of staff. Also I'm sorry for the long biography.
-
Well, both chemistry and virology (and also surgery) aren't easy stuff. Just because it's really simplified in-game to the point of few clicks, it doesn't mean it's easy-peasy job for every twenty-year old doctor to do. I'm for virologists (+CMO) having access to virology and sample crates. I wish people would start playing specialized characters, with surgeons, virologists, chemists, and just general practitioners each having their own places, cooperating like a department they should be. Instead of the randomness I'm usually seeing in the medbay, with people doing whatever they lay their hands on, without communication and stuff. Sorry I'm a little daft but are you on my side about separating virologists into its own job and removing virology access from doctors? Or keeping doctors with virology access and just making the crates have virology access.
-
Yes but how is a doctor not getting chemistry access any different then a doctor not getting virology access? I see virology as a much more complex and knowledgeable job then Chemistry. That's just my opinion though.
-
It only seems like that if you think of it that way. otherwise nothing changes and the people who want to use the alt title may.
-
Yeah I closed the PR last night because Nanako wanted me to wait for more input but still at this point I'm seeing more people on the side of medical doctors should /not/ get access to the virus crates only CMO + virologists should. Edit: I would also like to point out in my pull request the changes made were; I removed geneticist from the preferences menu, none can spawn in anyways. Made Virologists it's own job in medical, removing the access from doctors, and then adding virology_access to the sample crates.
-
Fair, if that's the case then virologist should be separate to medical doctor because it very much is. A good comparison is xenology to scientist. Right, should I just separate the jobs completely or work in Doctors no longer getting virology access and only CMO + virologists do.

[Denied] LTCodus' Head of Staff Application
ArcBot replied to LTCodus's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
This is the regular baystation map as of right now, it'll be changing soon to a much more new layout. Also, I've seen your character around a few times in the past couple days, nothing bad has come of it yet but I'm not giving a plus one or negative one until I see some more of him. I myself have been around two months now and I can't say I've seen you around that much. -
Erm, where? Because as far as I'm aware, we don't. My lack of knowledge about this actually made coding something half a year ago into a pain. (Namely, there's no mechanic with which to pull it off, outside of switches.) Mind if I make a pull request for it Skull? If it looks good you can go from there?
-
No I don't think medical doctors should get access to the crates, only Virologist + CMO. Sorry I should have made that more clear.
