  1. I mean, it seems alright, but It just seems so feature lite that I cant play it right now.
  2. I have a transgender character. Does any one care? No. Is it relevant at all to 90% of the to I do? No. It's just a bit of fluff. I dont ask for special accommodations for it because none are needed. Just play the game and don't try to shove yourself into people's throats. Most of us in the community don't care who or what is behind the screen, just laugh along with us and have a good time
  3. Fri Jul 08, 2016 6:20 pm How drunk were/are you?
  4. Do me a favor, before you think about fully implementing something like this. Stand straight up. Face directly forward. Now take one arm, and without moving your body or head, move that arm slowly from the front center of your body to as far as you can behind your body without turning. You will notice your vision of the arm goes away around 15 degrees ((More or less)) or so behind your side. Humans have a pretty good peripheral vision, and it extends farther than directly at 90 degree angles. I would like the idea above if we consider changing it to have angles of gray behind you.
  5. I uh, Uh, UH... Datberry what sort of drugs did you smoke before this App? While I trust you as a player, as an RPer, as someone who can do things, I uh, Don't like the backstory. It was difficult for me to follow, was all over the place. Although I am no expert on IPCs or how to be them, I just hope you will uh, Come up with something more fruitful ingame. eh. EH... I don't know Im not +1 or -1, Im just, i trust you to do better?
  6. Aito has been one of my best IC friends for awhile. Superballs is top tits at RP. Aito has a great ability to be RD, and the backgrounds neat. +1
  7. As what Bygone said, I am giving a +1 to Nebs for being Nebs, I love the player, lots of fun and great RP.. HOWEVER The app itself I do not like, But this does not mean they can make a better character. MY vaurca app is clear of that. My App character has been buried in the dust for a much better character that I RP now. Can I see Nebs doing the same thing? Yes. Do I dislike this app as it is? Yes. So its a +1 to Nebs, -1 to The app character.
  8. AS with the SBR, the Hivenet can be discovered and listened into aswell. The mechanics are nearly identical. SBR can not be disabled except being on another Z-Level. Thats the only difference.
  9. I don't have an opinion about station bounced radios. No, why would it be? He asked this because Station Bounced radios on private frequencies are essentially Hivenets for everyone else. Stow it in your pocket, leave the microphone on. Oh look, Antag is robusting me, taking my headset, Help help. Everyone else on the frequency knows you are in trouble.
  10. You mean station bounce radios that everybody can get and set to their own private frequency?
  11. Hivenet is an actual mechanical implant in the vaurca, like internal comms
  12. Hivenet doesn't allow for binary. Borges and ai listen to hivenet for security reasons. There isn't a point where Vaurca can do the same. What specifically about hivenet is bad? How has this change affected your ingame rp at all? Or any ic action?
  13. Nanotrassen. Highest quality. Pick one.
  14. BYOND key: Taintedglory Character names: Za'Akaix'Ckin K'Lax, Sam Lowe, James Albright How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Honestly, I can't recall. I played a few years ago before New-Code, quit SS13, then came back because I remember it fondly being a decent server. So, probably a few months now on New Code? Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Mostly because there are a few positions that I feel like need to be filled more often. Partly because why not? Why did you come to Aurora?: See above two lines. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is about forgetting you life, integrating yourself into a different world, different shoes, and forgetting your troubles. Atleast thats what it is to me. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To make it fun. Also to make sure people who join the game, no clue what they are doing, are either given help or sent out an airlock, depending on their reactions ingame. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: This is a loaded question. OOCly? To atleast show other players that you have some wisdom, and they can trust you not to join the round as HoS and carbine everyone you see. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Sam Lowe Character age: 37 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Sammi Lowe originally joined Nanotrassen's team in 2446. As a cadet, working her way through the academy and into the on Station Security forces. Nothing special or noteworthy of her early career, just normal station daily operations. In 2449, she started taking addition classes, brig management, forensics, and paperwork classes. This made many sleepless nights and half-assed work days as she struggled through to get the education need for a promotion. Eventually, she got it. No confetti and flashy shows, just one day showed up as a Warden. Did her duty for another two years, occasionally on patrol but most stuck in that office filing mountains of paperwork. In 2452, She started working off station, as an ERT member, occasionally boarding and helping stations and ships in distress. Here she learned a decent amount of skills in the world of Command, being large and in charge. Because of the low amount of ERT callings, and the high amount of ERT members, she had plenty of time for additional schooling. Now its 2453, she begins her first day of college at Crescent Moon Academy, where she took up an intense interest in figuring out how things worked. She started studying the ins and outs of engineering and electrical work. Never new before in her life that she was so fascinated by this stuff until she took the core classes. She spent her next four years getting her degree, and reapplying to Nanotrassen as a member of the engineering team. In 2457, she had an operation to have her gender genetically modified to male, but it was under suspicious conditions, as the team involved were not apart of Nanotrassen and had sketchy degrees, so the operation had some complications, but now Sammi is Sam, and he has rejoined Nanotrassen, working on Station once more to make some addition cash. What do you like about this character?: Its my oldest SS13 character, rehashed and redone for Aurora lore. So Its kind of close to my heart What do you dislike about this character?: Fucking snowflake by just design over playing it for years What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Worked in two major station departments, knows the ins and outs of daily station operation. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Terrible out of 20 Extra notes: Look I know its a snowflake, but its also a character I hold dear from being apart of me, an extension of my personality. Alot of my life reflects in its backstory (Except the transgender thing) as I spent my teenage years, 6 of them, as a cadet for the Air Force, but once I hit college I became a Computer Science engineer, Bachelors in electrical engineering. So, I sort of just put alot of my soul into the person I play, to feel a connection to the game
  15. Give Dina the job, she is the best engineer that I can trust regularly +1
  16. While I am cargo geek half the time I play, I agree with some of this but not all. +1 I don't think plasteel or farmbots should be orderable Only because I'm one of those people who actually makes cargo useful by forcing it on people . Just start sending them stuff without them asking. "Cargo, why did you just send engineering twenty five crates filled with insulated gloves?" "YOU'RE WELCOME"
  17. I'll throw a hat in here and lightly touch a few points, because I don't do walls of texts and shit. Is it Heavy RP? Not to those standards no. But it is ridiculous to expect every human being who joins the server to set up a two hundred page essay about who their character is, why they work here, and what makes them special. Hell, even a two paragraph essay is to much to ask. People do not always know their characters personality, feelings, beliefs, and ways of thinking before actually playing them. Thats not how every one is wired. As for OOC chat, seriously.. Its a community, we communicate to eachother. Thats what people do. We are social people who want to socialize and be social. If you do not like people talking in OOC, then turn it off. I know you said in your first post you don't like doing it. Well, if you're not going to turn it off, then don't complain about it. To much messing around? Again, we're people playing a video game. Taking every aspect of the game super serious all the time leads to basically a shitty life. As a human, you'll start getting anxiety and angst from being serious all the time. You'll start thinking you if you break the mold, you'll get ridiculed or even worse, banned. This leads to a series of mental and emotional problems for the player at hand, short term or long term. Another point: Lore Wow. You are not very observant. I know a large group of our community reads the ingame Newcaster, and the Out of game Forum Newscaster. I can't name them all, but whenever its posted ingame, OOC chat is usually swarmed with people talking about it. As for reading the Lore, new players are not going to sit and read it all on their first couple of rounds. Over the course of playing, they'll read bits here and there, and after awhile they'll know whats going on. Expecting them to read it all right at the first round they join is dumb. You need to let people naturally and organically learn things on our server. About time: We are human beings, we have jobs, significant others, A life. We can't dedicate 8 hours a day to the game. Even when I was a lonely young buck with no job and no life, I couldnt dedicate more than 6 hours a day for this game. Rounds on my HRP server would last 8 to 10 hours, and as Head Admin, I still could only do like 6 hours before all my RP was gone and I had to go play like, TF2 or some shit. Its unreasonable to expect every HRP server to run hours upon hours long and then get mad at the players when it isn't. The nature of SS13 is resetting back to square one at the beginning of every round. If you don't want that to happen, find another medium to RP on. Because that is SS13. You don't have permanent anything but interactions with other people. Stories. Love. Friendship. Enemies. All of that goes from round to round, But you can't expect the work you put into the station itself to stay. Thats unreasonable in this game.
  18. Ima throw a hat in here for a few things. One: I think Jackboot is right, the HoS (Or any Head really) shouldn't flip their shit when the Engineers do beneficial construction, construct private, or just be helpful with the way their department is supposed to be. Two: I think that you shouldn't have to do paperwork for every last thing, but thats up to the Heads at the round. Three: when no heads for the department is around, the department makes its own agreements/agreements with other deparments they are working for.
  19. I disagree. On Athena and Minerva, we dabbled with this concept. We had the same population as Aurora, and the same amount of security players. Security became a ghost town, barren and unplayed. You can not rely on your regulars to play security every round, most of them have multiple characters and play security to scratch that itch. Yeah, you'll have a bunch of cadets, that's great and all... But for regular officers, you'll see less and less. And for detectives? You'll never see any again. Whitelisting security is a bad idea, that's why we monitor security. That's also why most servers have a timer for new players to play anything above assistant/civilian level. Giving something else, like the timer, is a much better plan. -1
  20. Pwner has always been enjoyable for me to RP with ingame, so... Also in OOC stuff he is alot of fun to chat with, I think he can do it. I see the potential. I SEE GREATNESS. I SEE... Well I see him burning out and have a tough time dealing with not Cyroing every five seconds, but I think he could handle it over time. +1
  21. I kind of took influence from Firefly and Red Dead Redemption, didnt mean to make it grimdark, meant to make it old west civil war feeling.
  22. This is why I put in the notes at the bottom it was three am. Lol. I'll edit when I get home. Thanks Updated with the suggestions.
  23. BYOND Key: Taintedglory Character Names: James Albright, Za'Akaix'Nain K'Lax, Sam Lowe Species you are applying to play: Tajaran What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Blue-Greyish Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Specifically no reason, Sometimes I like to change up my RP and try something different, when the mood sets. Something about the Revolutionary war is pretty neat though. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Nothing really different besides being a Cat-Meme, IMHO Character Name: Grigorus Aruumba Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs "So no shit, there he was. Laying in a pool of his own piss, shit, and blood. Four bullets, two the stomach, and the others glancing blows, tearing out some flesh. Looking up, in the setting skyline, He sees Five, maybe six Flights, dodging our useless emplacements. Might as well be slinging rocks at them. On the move to his fortification was a squad, Maybe a dozen or so Republic soldiers. He can't blame them, even he thought about signing up for the 'Good guys.' But hey, that ain't really his thing. War is Messa they say. Well, he can believe that. Looking to his left and right, he sees his friends, Liberators and Countrymen, Dead or dying. Large caliber rounds will do that to a Tajaran. He is not even sure if this is his blood he is sitting in anymore. The Republic approaches, one of them seems nice. Instead of shooting immediately, he tells us to drop whatever weapons we got and not to move. One of my squad mates raises her handgun, and immediately loses her head. Well, so much for nice. He tells them they owe him a strong drink for that, and immediately He is slogged across the face, and knocked out cold. That gave him plenty time to think." Grigorus is a Tajaran of the Zhan-Khazan breed. He lived in a nice little farming village in the middle of no where. As a child, he worked in the fields with his family, raising livestock and tending crops. When he was of age to get a real job like a real Tajaran, he joined the deputy department of his village, to help keep the locals in check, the wildlife away, and general peace. Years went by uneventful, as they tend to do. That is until the Liberation began operation. At first it seemed to be some stories of a far off tale. Then the tale began to grow into rumors, and rumors became accusations. The Republic arrived to his quaint little village, and claimed it was a Liberation hot spot, a terrorist cell. One by one they went and raided every place of business, every resident, every personal property. Torn asunder and broken, this town was in shambles now. Of course they found nothing, but they didn't want to be made fools. The dark cloaks arrive. They call them Secret Police, but at that moment they were Devils, Messa's own messengers. They claimed one of the local families was apart of the Liberation, found evidence they refused to show. They brought the Tajarans out, It was a father and wife, four children. Dragged them onto one of their vehicles and locked them away. Never to be seen again. Afterwords, a Mafia came to settle in town, bringing a "relief effort" To help the traumatized locals, And it didn't take long for every individual in the village to become indebted to a large and dangerous group. Grigorus, Soon after having his home village just claimed by the Mafia, and forced under their protection, was now out of a job and out of respect for the Republic. Found himself at local bars all the time. Bored, angry, spiteful. It all led to talking, and talking led to contacts, and contacts led to him speaking personally with a few Liberator recruiters. Swayed by the drink, bitterness, and hopelessness, he thought that maybe the values of the Liberation was the right ones. It took a few months to convince him otherwise. After the events in the opening letter, he recovered in a PoW camp hospital. It took months but he was back on his paws, starving and depressed in the camp. The time spent there was mostly rehabilitation back into the Republics way of thinking. Nothing came of him being there besides losing some muscle mass and body weight, but after awhile he was freed, newly indoctrinated into the Republics arms. Now free of prison and the war, he weighed his options. Get a job in a city, Go back to the home town and work for the mafia, or get out of this shit hole and try to do something better with his life. "That local boy told Him about that funny looking building over there, with the Big logo above it saying 'Nanotrassen.' He has heard they have pretty good job openings off-planet, and safe too. He might actually be able to have a job and not get shot at for once, hah. The humans seem nice enough anyways, He has always liked them. This conflict has gone on for to long, and he isn't able to deal with it anymore." What do you like about this character? He's a veteran, someone who has seen war and is both Jaded and frightened of it. He is unsure of his own values and beliefs, seeing both sides of the world at this point, and is unable to fully make up his mind about what he can trust, or believe in. He does believe in freedom of his people, but after being in war on the Liberators side, he isn't sure the methods are a means to the end. He is pretty unskilled, labor wise, but has a drive to move on with his life How would you rate your role-playing ability? Absolutely garbage, but I have fun and people seem to be entertained by me. Notes: Its Three AM and I must be bored.
  24. I still think Arcbot would make a better staff that ninety percent of who I have met. +1
