Reporting Personnel: William Rathen Rank of Reporting Personnel: Warden Game ID: bNc-dMgo Personnel Involved: (Name, Rank: Offender/Witness/Other (Ckey)) - Ra'd Sarraf, Security Officer: Offender (Juani2400) - Drake Lothum, Detective - Demoted to assistant: Victim (Lompf) - Vira Taryk, Head of Security: Other (OneOneThreeEight) - Khaled Al-Bastaki, Security Officer: Other (Aboshehab) Time of Incident: Approximately 1330 station time. Real time: 1740 UTC +12, 25/02/2017 Location of Incident: Security Brig Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [x]Neglect of Duty []Harassment [x]Assault []Misconduct []Other _____ Overview of the Incident: Two detainees were in the brig being processed. In order to keep them separate, one was put in processing and the other in interrogation. I, the Warden, was sentencing and watching the offender in processing. Officer Ra'd Sarraf was watching the one in interrogation. As I was speaking with the one in processing, Drake Lothum, unrestrained, runs past with Officer Sarraf in tow. I watched as Sarraf pulled out a laser rifle issued to him earlier in the shift and took multiple shots at Lothum. At this time, Lothum was still unrestrained and running but he was not attacking or making any threatening motions. I rushed out and Sarraf and I both flashed Lothum, proving that he did have the means to subdue them non-lethally. Sarraf returned his rifle and very soon after went to cryogenic storage. I was only made aware of him going to cryo when I reported the incident to the Head of Security soon after. Lothum had to be taken to medical for his injuries. He could not speak coherently from the pain. I would note he was also drunk at this time, however. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: I reported it to Vira Taryk, Head of Security (OneOneThreeEight). I also relayed the events to Khaled Al-Bastaki, Security Officer (Aboshehab). They saw and attempted to treat the injuries on the offender before taking them to medical. Actions taken: Detainment of Officer Sarraf would have almost certainly happened, but they had moved to cryogenic storage. Additional notes: Vira Taryk, Head of Security said they would sign off on this, but I was unable to get a form to them before transfer came.

[Accepted] BygoneHero Synth Unban Request
ShameOnTurtles replied to Bygonehero's topic in Unban Requests Archive
Alright. First of all: I believe that yes, in many cases, an organic speaker would be prioritized over a synthetic speaker, theoretically. There were two situations that you said over PMs were the only situations you used the mimicking telecommunications script in, which I later discovered was false through talking to the people you mimicked. Medical Emergencies With the person's permission People will listen to calls about a medical emergency, or calls for medical regardless of whether the speaker is organic or synthetic, as they should. As for getting permission, that didn't happen from what I saw and was told. Regardless, I'm prepared to accept this appeal fully, as long as you make sure to correct your behavior as a lawed synthetic. Additonally, try to no longer be aggressive/confrontational with staff. Sound good? -
He's referring to hardsuits, not voidsuits I think. They have an internal oxygen tank which leaves the suit slot free for whatever the person wants to store there.
-
Appeal accepted, ban has been updated.

Right. Regarding other replies. Regarding Wer6: So, as some background, you were given a warning for abusing a bug and not reporting it to staff as a wizard. To clear this up: regardless of what specific bug you abused previously, that warning should have been a wake-up call to report bugs to staff instead of using them to your advantage ingame. The permanent ban was taking into account the recent previous warnings on both abusing bugs and poor antag play respectively - as well as lying to staff. I'm fine with this being lowered to a week server ban perhaps, with a separate permanent antagonist ban that can be appealed.

[Accepted] Gris3310's Head of Staff Application
ShameOnTurtles replied to gris3310's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hello there. I've found myself reading through some of these apps recently and while on the whole your seems pretty good, a couple things stick out to me. Primarily: Each Head of Staff has very different qualifications (with a couple exceptions). Why would your character - who seems to have no Security experience and not much of a secondary education, be hired as a specialized Head of Staff role such as a Head of Security? While a little bit outdated, you should check this page out: https://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=NanoTrasen_Occupation_Qualifications#Tier_10 as well as this page: https://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Head_of_Security Piggybacking off the last question, the IC roles performed by Heads of Staff are all radically different. For example, someone who is a Head of Security won't be also employed as a Research Director. The qualifications, workload, and experience just wouldn't make sense. Different characters should be made for each Head of Staff role barring rare exceptions that don't really occur with humans. The things I have brought up do need to be addressed, but other than that it's pretty good. Your answers to the first three paragraph questions - and the OOC questions in general - are quite good in my opinion. -

I looked briefly on the Unathi main and religion page, and could not find anything relating to funerals. I don't know if I've just missed something, but... What would the average funeral be like for an Unathi - and if the station of the Unathi changes that, how so? I'll also extend this question to other species as well, considering after more brief checks I'm not seeing anything on the topic.

Okay. This was a difficult situation, but I do stand by what I said. When this situation happened, all other traitors had been dealt with by security. As I said in the PMs, the latter effects of poison and acid weren't doing anything to them - a cyborg and a hardsuited individual. The only thing that actually damaged either of them was the EMP. From their character's perspective, you you doing the equivalent of throwing sodas that teleport people. Less than that, even, because sodas do 1-2 brute upon hitting someone. And, again, as said in PMs girders should not be relied upon for dedicated barricades. An engineer is easily able to get through them in a moments notice. They didn't take you seriously when you told them to leave because the primary weapon you used was a plant that was a minor annoyance. On the topic of you having explosives, yes, the Robotics lab was damaged because of C4. No, I don't believe a vague threat of "I have bombs in my satchel that are inactive, so leave this area!" (and by extension do even more damage to the area which they are trying to fix) is really that threatening/dissuading for someone. It will give them a moment's caution, sure, but beyond that... not really. The half ignoring bit is again due to you not really doing anything further to oppose them entry. You have to make good on your threats in a situation like this where it isn't very well prepared. They didn't come here to fight or valid you, they came to repair a destroyed area. They aren't going to let an annoying crewmember stop them from doing that. You start throwing plants at them once. The CE hits back once. You continue throwing plants at them. You EMP the area, resulting in the death of a cyborg that was valued by the CE. They try to get revenge, and hit you with a welder a couple times even while being teleported around. Finally they stop hitting you and immediately call medical when you fall into critical, but you succumb before someone can save you. There was no dead chassis around the Robotics lab besides the engineering one that came with the CE, so I assumed it was not involved in this scenario. You didn't correct me on this point - or even mention a subverted cyborg in relation to these events. This is further reinforced by you setting off an EMP grenade. If it was near, it would have been heavily damaged/destroyed. Also, the CE was not hit by anything but the plants during this situation. Why should they be afraid of an absent cyborg? That's pretty much it. I felt it was acceptable roleplay for them to go to this area. They are quite protected, but still taking a risk. It's your job - as the defender of that area - to make them pay for taking that risk. If it was anyone else you would have got them with the plants or EMP, but unfortunately it wasn't anyone else.

[Denied] Ornias' Head of Staff Application
ShameOnTurtles replied to Ornias's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Start off by saying I'm pretty overdue on posting on this, really. Ornias conducts himself professionally ICly and OOCly. He messes around a little, but all in good fun. As Breccan especially, he's a model officer. Always good to see them on the team, regardless of the fact they're basically an IPC. As for their RP ability, it's top notch. Referencing Astor Noton (their mechatronic engineer), they even create steps in repairs and construction to make it more enjoyable and interesting for all involved. Recently a very funny situation involving voice chips stemmed from this... Considering this, a solid +1. I don't see anything amiss with the answers, as well. -
So, I'll just start off by saying I love this game to bits. I downloaded it ages ago, and didn't play much of it. I've returned to it recently, and now I can't stop playing it. How I've described it to friends is if you've read Ender's Game, it's like that but you're essentially one of the ships he commands. Great ship to ship combat; not to bullet spongy, and definitely different play styles for each ship. The in game currency is pretty easy to get, and the ships don't cost that much. A very rewarding game all things considered. Anyways, if any of you have this game (and are willing to play a match or three), let me know. If you don't have the game, It's free to play. Give it a try, at least.

Player Complaint - CommanderXor
ShameOnTurtles replied to Ornias's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Okay, post time. As a note, if the resolution from this could be at least touched upon, that would be good. Right now, I have no idea. I should mention that I was the Security Officer in this scenario, Alice Knapp. Unfortunately, about when I was trying to stabilize Edward Cane after his leg was chopped off my internet died and didn't come back until the next day. Anyways, ignoring the fact you chased after someone in an obviously high-tech unknown hard suit, you had your leg chopped off. Literally a leg chopped off. Yeah, sure. You could argue you didn't know what it was capable of, so you chased after them in revenge. Nevermind the Security Officer right beside you, ready to step in. After that, as said before, leg gone. Moving on, I'm desperately trying to treat you with the basic stuff I know. ESRA is cooling down cryo and we're waiting. Que the internet cut. Now, going off what you said about the round... What. Literally just... what. This person has demonstrated an ability to generate an energy blade from their suit. This person has also demonstrated the ability to cut limbs off with little to no difficulty. If you hunkered down awaiting them with sedatives, sure. But you say yourself you actively looked for them. Keep in mind, this is as a Virologist. You have little or no combat training, and you sure as hell aren't immune to the effects of fear and pain. This person has chopped your leg off. You're a doctor. You should be bloody scared of them, not wanting to seek them out. Again, from what you said: You try to defend yourself. That's fine and dandy. However, they sever your arm. Despite this, you still try to fight them? You have two limbs, yet you still try to bash their head in. Also, you say later you put them in cryo, straightjacket them, and such. Why didn't you do that earlier? As far as I can see, there was no need to attack an unconscious person. High amounts of soporific are quite the sedative. On feedback, you're a pretty good roleplayer most of the time. Barring when you get bored and mess around to an unholy degree (cough cough), you're good. I think you just need to keep in mind your character's goals, and treat them as more of a person. Your character is a human being. They aren't - or at least shouldn't be - too crazy. They certainly shouldn't be chasing armed and unknown people around with a syringe gun. Perhaps you need to look at your character's motivations for working where they are, and how they got there. This seems like enough said. As stated before, I wasn't there for the whole interaction but based on what you said, CommanderXor, yeah. Play for fun, not to win. -
Reporting Personnel: Alice Knapp Rank of Reporting Personnel: Head of Security Personnel Involved: - Dylan Sutton, Security Officer: Witness (SirCatnip) - Lyanna Field, Security Cadet: Witness (The Muncorn) - Edward Cane, Virologist: Offender (CommanderXor) Time of Incident: Real time: Approximately 2200 UTC+12:00 28/09/16 Location of Incident: Virology Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury [x]Destruction of Property []Neglect of Duty []Harassment []Assault [x]Misconduct [x]Other: Suicide Attempt Overview of the Incident: When the shift first started, Cane and an atmospherics technician began trading insults before being told to stop. Cane continued, and went as far as to say he’d use a flamethrower to light the other on fire. I prepared a warrant for his arrest and dispatched two personnel, Dylan Sutton and Lyanna Field to bring him in. When approached by them he ran, locking himself in Virology and welding the doors shut. He was not wearing eye protection at the time, and complained about being half-blind loudly on radio. After he was detained, he then claimed Security had activated a flash in his eyes repeatedly. The Officers managed to procure a welding tool, and proceeded to remove the barrier and approach Cane again. This is when he attempted to commit suicide to avoid them. He was stopped in time and brought to the brig. He was placed in the brig for his infractions. A while through his sentence, he attempted to break out of the brig by breaking the window in his cell and running for the Security lobby doors. He was detained again and placed back in the brig. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: No, as I was the only Command staff on board. As far as I can recall, we did not have an AI system downloaded either so a demotion/suspension was not possible. Actions taken: They were detained for multiple infractions (i110, i115, i202, i203, i209), and it was explained to them why their actions were unacceptable. Additional notes: Nothing.

Staff Complaint: ShameOnTurtles
ShameOnTurtles replied to EvilBrage's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Well, I'll get to this. Three other moderators who were there for the situation and might like to give input: SirCatnip, House_Of_Synth, TrickingTrapster. In hindsight, I really should've saved the logs from that round to see exactly how I explained it to you, but oh well. In this situation, you were a traitor Quartermaster. You had been stealthily stealing things from around the station. You progressed to doing minor sabotage actions such as bombing, and throwing incendiary grenades at Security. During this time, you were pretty much anonymous. Security had their suspicions, but didn't know for sure who it was. This is when you decided to blow up a supermatter core in the maintenance by Auxiliary Tool Storage without any staff communication on the matter. (previously in the round he was instructed to involve crew more by House_Of_Synth). Basically, when I noticed that the emitter was going off and you were blowing it up, I PMed you saying to turn off the emitter. You asked why, and I explained that this wasn't proper escalation or crew involvement. The key part here was you had progressed from minor actions, completely anonymous, to blowing up a Supermatter Core in a high traffic area, right next to a spawnpoint. I did quote to you in PMs the part of the rules that states, After this, you protested that since it did not mention a supermatter core, you didn't have to adminhelp. I explained to you multiple times that since it was on the same scale of destruction, along with it destroying a spawnpoint you still had to adminhelp beforehand. I also told you how people had been talked to and punished about this before, and that those rules primarily mean the engine as a singularity engine is what is was running off at the time of making those rules. (Obviously, they have since been revised). As some closing notes, you state: That's not it at all. As I explained to you many times, it was on the same scale of destructiveness as those two mentioned, seeing as although the round continued for a little while afterwards, it was just the crew panicking and calling a shuttle after some delay. (I'm not sure of why there was that delay to calling the emergency shuttle). Yes, a spawnpoint was destroyed. The Gateway was completely gone. If someone spawned there, they would have immediately died to the lack of pressure and air. Finally, Perhaps you felt like you weren't having an impact, but you did. The nuke on the station was specifically moved in a preemptive move to stop someone from breaching in to potentially steal it - as you had proven a capability to do. Security was confused, and attempting to investigate the cause and source of the explosions with no forensics or investigative personnel aboard the station - at least, not until the very end, if I recall correctly. As I said before, I invite the moderators mentioned to share their opinion. I felt it was a valid argument to make that it should have been adminhelped beforehand. -
[DENIED]Sec-ban appeal. Roderick Grey.
ShameOnTurtles replied to Roderick Grey's topic in Unban Requests Archive
I've been asked to give my two cents as someone who plays with Roderick a lot as security, so here goes: I believe Roderick is a great Security player when there isn't immediate conflict happening. There's been plenty of rounds that he's made more enjoyable/more interesting for me. That being said, it's situations where they're either an antagonist and/or in immediate conflict like this that I often find him to be underwhelming. I can remember some incidents of him doing things generally considered bad RP, but technically alright. As 1138 said, Regarding his Security play, I find it mostly sound and can't think of any gripes off the top of my head. This specific situation doesn't look very well played out on their end, though. On a more positive note, he has gotten much better recently. I can think of one specific revolution round where he was Security rev and Ornias was loyalist Security. After the round had ended, Ornias could not stop telling me about how amazing the round was, and mostly due to how Roderick roleplayed in it. Due to improvements like these, I believe that a permanent Security ban might be a bit much, and would support it being decreased. -

BYOND key: ShameOnTurtles Character names: Ross Fletcher, Alice Knapp, Joel Thraine, Marcus Rothman, Jason Sulyard, Lukas Steele, Hayden Locke, Simon Marshall How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 1 month. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to be on the whitelist because I am interested in the experience and challenge of being the Head of a certain department. Why did you come to Aurora?: A friend recommended it to me as a very interesting server after playing for about 10 minutes. I stayed because of how refreshing the high level of RP was. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I think that roleplay is the acting out of a character in order to experience connections, relationships, or conflicts through them that otherwise you would not experience. I think that roleplay should be about making a great experience for everyone involved and providing a feeling of satisfaction or even elation to players. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The purpose of a Head of Staff is to provide direction and be a role model for how other people should act and roleplay. The head of staff should connect with each member of their department in a way that will help improve their time and in a way that will also help them feel involved in events in the round as best they can. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players should be an exemplar for other people on the server. They should maintain the values and ideals of the community and rules. They should be helpful and always make the situation they are in better. I will uphold the rules and roleplay every situation to the best of my ability in order to help people enjoy the current situation. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well-articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Alice Knapp Character age: 33 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): She lived in a megacity in the Pacific Union on Earth. Growing up, Alice didn’t stand out in a bad or good way. She wasn’t one to be confused about what her future had in store for her, because she decided at an early age that what she wanted to do was work in Security or the Armed Forces. She left school after completing her Master’s degree in International Security. Alice then went off planet to train for and join the private Security field. Her parents were supportive of her career choice, if a little worried for her. Her deployments in the private sector were not exciting or even very dangerous. The only threats were accidents or the very occasional skirmish with arsonists/radicals. Alice didn’t make many friends in the private Security field, and eventually left without complications. 7 years into her career, on one deployment her position was attacked by enemies of her employer. During the fighting, Alice’s right arm was hurt badly. Her colleagues fended off the attackers, and got her medical attention fast enough to save her life. However, her arm had to be removed. While waiting for a prosthetic limb, she showed signs of psychological damage and was made to see a therapist. After the prosthetic limb was attached, Nano Trasen looked into hiring her in a Security Officer role. She failed their first psychological evaluation, and was given more time to recover before retaking it. She passed the second time and was accepted as an employee. What do you like about this character?: This is my second, however my main character. I really like playing her because of the way she tries to be professional but friendly. I enjoy the situations that being a Security Officer can put you in and how they help me develop how my character acts. What do you dislike about this character?: When actually questioned on my background, I’ve found it hard to make answers. I do think this’ll be fixed by me writing it out as I have. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Every time I’m on, I try to form connections with other Officers and station staff. I think that this will really help and make my character a more enjoyable Head of Security. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would rate it about a 7/10. Where it is high is probably general roleplaying with colleagues and minor conflict situations. Where it probably dips is traumatic experiences. In those scenarios, I feel I could do better. For example, reacting to being told I was cloned. Extra notes: N/A

[Approved] Ornias' Dionaea Application
ShameOnTurtles replied to Ornias's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
+1 Every time I've been in a roleplay situation with him, he has added to the experience. His characters are well thought out and well played. Especially with his journalist character, he is very eloquent and can connect the whole station together. Granted, I don't have very much knowledge of the Dionaea, but from your answers I can see that you understand how they are interesting and unique.
