    Siik Maas

Dionaea would have been discovered along with the skrell, given that the skrell had made contact with dionaea over a hundred years prior. Also, IPCs have existed since at least around the time of first contact with unathi, though positronic brains have existed for around a hundred years. Just going off the wiki here. Yes. Yes, I do think that. Tau Ceti Basic, Tradeband, Gutter - all human languages, and tajara are able to speak them, though some with minimal fluency. I see no problem with humans learning Siik'Maas in a similar fashion, given this paragraph: The... what? Pretty sure there are none of those, given that it is completely impossible.
  2. You can already use a cryptographic sequencer to subvert a robot to your side. I don't see how it would make anything more "ganky" to have a subverted robot be an option from the start. Imagine a syndicate janitor robot that sprays space lube on the floor in front of security officers who are responding to reports of intruders, or uses their trash bag to steal valuable items.
  3. From a hilarious changeling round: Also in that round:
  4. The CMO's office doesn't need to be near the lobby for them to watch the department. There is already a screen which lets them access all the medical cameras.

    Bridge/AI updates

It's not a very good idea to put the AI, a very expensive piece of equipment, out at the edge of the station where it's vulnerable to meteors. Additionally, as others have said, that bridge is way too large and empty.

    IPC Language

Not all sign languages work the same way. Tau Ceti sign, apparently, does not require the use of any facial expressions, considering that you can use it just fine while wearing items that obscure your face (gas mask, hardsuit helmet, etc.). Besides, they have a screen for a face - they could display any necessary information there.

    IPC Language

As an IPC player, I agree with all of this. Except for this part. Why would IPCs not be able to sign?
  8. Hardly gank. Just because you're roleplaying differently now doesn't make it a bad thing. That's like saying a hacking a cyborg is gank. Getting turned into a monster does not remove you from the round. As Gollee stated, there are numerous ways to roleplay a monster. If you are transformed into a slime, and then immediately killed for being a slime outside of containment? Then yes, that is gank. And that is what it seems some people are proposing should happen, which is why I am bringing it up.
  9. If getting transformed means that all traces of your memories and personality disappear, then the staff of change is nothing more than a tool for gank. Which it shouldn't be. I'm not saying that you shouldn't act any different after being transformed, of course. If you get transformed into a slime, for instance, you would likely be overwhelmed by hunger, and the desire to grow and split, all the while telepathically screaming for help. Being transformed against your will would likely be a very traumatic experience - we should see that RPed, not players acting the same as before the transformation, and certainly not taking them out of the round completely.
  10. It makes sense, though. The hallway around the AI is a rather public place; if someone tried to break in there, people would notice. If you have a more detailed suggestion about the layout, however, I would love to attempt to map it.
  11. I would like to point out that Stamos did use deathsting once in order to escape. Samuel Avalon, I think their name was, was dragging Stamos off in a locker somewhere, with PARAGON following close behind, continually giving warnings (Stamos had previously been shown to possess lethal chemicals). Stamos woke from the dead and burst from the locker, stinging Avalon while rushing into maintenance. PARAGON had to rush the stung idiot to medical, allowing Stamos to escape. I do think that this case was a legitimate use of deathsting. However, I am not convinced of the legitimacy of the other uses of this sting, nor the used method of acquiring it.
  12. No, that isn't how it would work. They would be able to stop any rampaging cyborg or android for the same reason they are able to stop any other crew. The AI can still lock down any person who is a threat to the crew, whether that person is crew or not. And no, they wouldn't be able to refuse orders that way, remember "with priority as according to their rank and role". The only real issue this would cause with the laws is with number two, serve (as well as making number 4 obsolete). They would then have to serve themselves, and while they would still have to prioritize other crew members, it can be considered a bad idea to require an all-powerful entity to be self-serving. There's also the fact that they are not considered crew of the Aurora, same with, say, ERT members. I don't want to start a heated discussion about this, but you don't want to have to drag the entire AI core onto the transfer shuttle every shift, do you? Also you seem to forget that IPCs, who are synthetic, are crew. "Bound synthetics" would be a better term to use. If I get one more malfunctioning AI call PARAGON organic...
  13. They're obviously not normal monkeys. I mean, they come from a cube. They're probably genetically engineered to have minimal brain function, both to make it easier and more ethical to work with them.
  14. Three, I think, but I did manage to save one of them. But yeah, ganky ling with an OP sting. Which is a problem I've seen a lot, playing as a doctor during changeling rounds, and having to drag a continuous stream of people from the brig to medical after they manage to capture a ling. See, this is a problem with a lot of changeling rounds. Remember, as an antagonist, your goal is not to win, but to provide interesting RP. If your only real interaction with the crew is spamming deathstings on anyone in the same room as you, you are not doing your job. A lot of the time, from what I see, a changeling absorbs all of the monkeys in genetics, gets caught, then proceeds to kill anyone who gets near them. As for the complaint itself, nothing about their actions that round really stands out among the many changelings I've seen doing the same thing, apart from the potential bug exploit.
  15. You mentioned that the manifest this round was wiped. I don't suppose you know how this happened? What caused all those records to disappear? I believe this information is crucial. Many AIs have personally wiped station records just do that they may put this loophole into effect. Just trying to make sure that isn't what happened here. Hmm, that was a secret wizard round, right? If it's the one I'm thinking of, I think the wizard altered the manifest, as they had themselves listed as captain.
  16. While IPCs are immune to the common stamm #xxxx diseases, they are not immune to the prebuilt diseases (GBS, flu, etc.). I recall one particularly virulent strain of GBS that killed PARAGON during surgery. The gibs were everywhere that day. IPCs are also not immune to the effects of pepper spray, which works by affecting the mouth and eyes. IPCs possess neither, and so should not be affected. They do not require eye protection while welding, however, due to the aforementioned lack of the organ. In addition to EMPs frequently blowing off an IPCs vital parts (which includes, for some reason, the groin), they are also hilariously weak to burn damage. I've seen two laser shots to the arm put one into crit. If you were to alter block 27 of an IPC's genetic code (which exists, somehow) to change them into a monkey, say, using an injector, they explode into a shower of gibs.
  17. So, you would want to ban tajara and unathi from all head positions as well?
  18. Yes, there is the option to make a human head of staff (assuming you don't have all your character slots filled like I do). There is not, however, the option to make an IPC head of staff. You've said that a number of people, IC, would feel uncomfortable with a synthetic having power over them. I have two main things to say to this. One, many humans would be opposed to having aliens in similar positions, yet there is not a complete ban on those. Two, there isn't really any way for these opinions to be shown in-game. I want to see this discrimination, not just hear about it, but how often does the subject of IPC heads of staff come up IC? I'm sure it would actually be discussed if certain command positions were available to IPCs. So, what does the player lose? They lose unique RP opportunities, that you can't get by playing a human.
  19. To all the people suggesting Siik'maas is outside a human's range of hearing: http://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tajara#Language_.26_Naming So, humans can learn Siik'maas just fine, though they would not be able to speak it fully.
  20. But there's nothing for people to base their opinions off of. That's like people voting for a law that hasn't been written yet.
  21. This is an IC issue, yet you're allowing this to be decided by someone's OOC opinions, which are unsupported by lore? A reminder that synthetic lore is incomplete.
  22. No, that's really... not how it would work. (.5×1) < (.3×4). Unless they were programmed to be bad at calculating probability, which makes no sense, they would choose the option which gives the highest average lives saved. In this case, it would be a choice between .5 and 1.2. 1.2 is higher, they would likely choose the 30% chance to save 4 people. This is, of course, assuming all other factors are equal, which is unlikely.
  23. Do you want there to be? Yes, there is not enough slavery in our lore. Why? Other synthetics are already in slavery, why would you be so interested in a particular chassis? Being free is sort of the entire point of IPCs.
  24. Oh, no relation to that Quote. Just a PAI who likes to quote things. Mostly A Modest Proposal.
  25. BYOND Key: MasterZipZero Character Names: PARAGON, Raelene Sagan, Kimora Hunt, Myriam Hall, Lynwood Newton, Amarleen Sinha, Quote, Lemon, Ez the mouse, Volodymyr Stasiuk, Iveta Kovac, Henrike Flanagan, and a few drones and nymphs. How long have you been playing on Aurora: ~149 days as of when this was posted. Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): #FF00FF, which produces a much more pleasing colour of #FFD7FF in game. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yesh. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I flipped a coin. Basically, I had wanted to play organics again, but still wanted to play something other than humans. It was down to diona or skrell, and I flipped a quarter to decide. The coin chose skrell. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: A few things come to mind. One, their diet is herbivorous, so they have to be more careful around food to ensure it doesn't contain meat. Two, they have an entirely different view of reproduction than most humans. Three, they convey their emotions using sounds that are outside a human's range of hearing, leading to many humans believing that they do not have emotions. I am particularly interested in exploring the last one more. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? Of all the sapient species that occur in science fiction, aquatic, plantlike, and synthetic ones are always my favourite. I generally play those species in whatever games I can, and would love to continue that in this corner of space. Character Name: Lejorei Zhareiu Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Lejorei was born with an unexpected number of siblings, each one significantly straining their parent's attention and finances. Due to this, they were frequently left unattended, with very little entertainment outside of schooling. Lejorei solved this problem by becoming a troublemaker. For much of their early life, Lejorei Zhareiu would get into trouble wherever they could. Whether it be playing elabourate pranks on their peers, or entering into restricted areas, Lejorei could usually be found doing something they weren't supposed to do. Eventually, however, they overestimated their abilities, and attempted to climb to the roof of a factory - skrell being notably better at swimming than climbing - and they fell off partway up. Their arm didn't. With an absent arm severely limiting their troublemaking abilities, and perhaps with wisdom gained from the event, Lejorei began to focus more on their studies, and focused their talents towards the field of engineering. Eventually, they became informed of employment opportunities with NanoTrasen, and were hired soon after completion of their education. After several years of working on NanoTrasen ships, they were transferred over to the NSS Aurora. What do you like about this character? Well, it is rather difficult to judge what I like or dislike about a character that I haven't played at all yet. One thing that I do like, though is that they are very risk-averse due to the accident with their arm, something which I see many engineers lacking. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Constantly improving, is the only thing I can say. I judge myself too harshly to rate myself accurately. Notes: Squishy! I would appreciate feedback on this application; if it is terrible, I will rewrite it.
