Red: Truly the colour of security.

Lets talk logic. Aka how not to fuck up your AI.
ZipZero replied to ForgottenTraveller's topic in Guides & Tutorials
According to that, Fowl, the AI would not have to listen to ERT members, despite them outranking the captain. They would not even have to listen to orders coming directly from central command. This would be completely absurd. Why would NanoTrasen have AIs that do not have to follow the highest authourities of the company that they interact with? -

The laws do say rank and role, not just rank. Following that would include the "staying in lanes" bit. This is why, for example, the CMO couldn't order the AI to prevent security from arresting, say, a cargo tech. That would be outside their role. And I consider following corporate regulations to be an order from the highest authourity, CC. -
I believe you can just right click on a pill bottle to rename it. No need for a hand labeler.

A small scrap of wrinkled paper is tacked onto the center of the paper, next to the words "MUST BE SHUT DOWN". On it, a single, hastily-written word: Why?

Jenners is absolutely amazing at everything they do, and should definitely be a fluffy kitty. Also this character is interesting, +1.

I've seen plenty of ops try something other than 'blow everything up'. The problem, usually, is that the crew metagames and ruins it. Ops posing as CC personnel? Crew is instantly distrustful of them, and contacts CC about it. Ops pretend their ship is on fire, they have dying people onboard? "No we won't help you at all go away." Once, I saw the alert level raised to blue in the first few minutes of the round, before the ops had even moved the shuttle, because one of them sent a single message to a crewmember: Hello. This is why I dislike playing the gamemode unless it is chosen through secret, and why I don't think this suggestion would work.

Considering that I've seen IPCs older than positronic brains have existed, according to our lore, it would make the most sense to have their age based on their programming. Dionaea, on the other hand... I'm inclined to say oldest nymph, but... I just don't know with them. I don't think IPCs would have to go through schooling, considering the whole 'download knowledge into brain' thing. Dionaea, maybe, but I imagine that requirement would be rather loose for them. Basically these two are the most alien species we have and it's rather difficult to describe them in human terms.

Drones are not allowed to interact with crew in any way, from what admins have told me in ahelp They can interact, just not interfere. Though, they have almost no reason to be interacting in any meaningful way with anyone. /datum/ai_laws/drone/New() ..() add_inherent_law("Preserve, repair and improve the station to the best of your abilities.") add_inherent_law("Cause no harm to the station or anything on it.") add_inherent_law("Interfere with no being that is not a fellow drone.") Drones simply have no will to do anything not strictly within those laws. Asking for a battery upgrade would not be allowed under their third law.

What about brain death? While dead, if your body is not being preserved (such as, say, in the morgue), your brain will slowly decay. If you're dead for too long, it is impossible to clone the body if a backup had not been made previously. This could also be done using a a decreased chance to clone, as opposed to simply can clone/can't clone, or maybe a more complex system to calculate how much of your memory has been lost (so if you're dead for longer, you may lose whole years of your life). Any of these would encourage people to get backups more often, which would also serve to give genetics something to do besides injecting themselves with random enzymes.

Assuming it hasn't been damaged, the most wire you need for a solar array is 48. A drone can carry 30, and also drag along another coil of 30, using that when theirs gets low. I usually just take it from art storage.

I think it's possible to have the item only spawn if the character is playing assigned to a certain job. If so, that might be a good option.

The same way it's always been done and you've had to do anyway? You drag them... The conveyor barely moved them at all anyways. I just think it makes more sense to move the parts to where they need to be assembled on a conveyor belt instead of dragging the heavy, metal parts around and scraping the floor. And again: There is only one chair, while there are two job slots for roboticist, the mech bay seems too open, and the lab seems too cramped.

Two roboticists, one chair. The lab seems too cramped, while the mech bay seems too open. Also, with no conveyor, there is no easy way to move around the heavy mech parts.

A problem I've frequently seen is players calling for a crew transfer in an attempt to use the transfer shuttle as an emergency shuttle, during a crisis where the code level could not be elevated to red. I believe that allowing a transfer vote during code red would just increase that problem.

What, exactly, is causing people to think that an overdose of alkysine is occurring?

Would any help be appreciated? Additional coders, mappers, maybe some spriters?

By that logic, why have any surgical tools? Or even an operating table? You can ask to use medical's, since you aren't using them every shift. It just makes no sense to only give some of the tools required, when they are only used for one task. You only have a scalpel and a saw because it is presumed that the brains you are extracting are coming from crew that were already deceased. Hence why the roboticist has access to the morgue. At the very most, I'd let them have a soporific bottle and a syringe. But no more than that. A scalpel and a circular saw are insufficient for extracting a brain from a body, regardless of them being alive or dead. A hemostat and a retractor are still required. Also, a lack of anesthetic seems to encourage people to perform the operation without it. I have seen people lying fully awake for the procedure numerous times, both with and without the proper paperwork.

Another location I would like to add. The west section of the bridge on the mining outpost has no camera nearby, meaning that one of the airlocks is inaccessible to the AI.
-
I think there are two things that need to be determined here. One, what is the purpose of paperwork? And two, does requiring a person to fill out a particular form before being allowed to work fulfill that purpose?

The mouse room: a home for all those cute little maintenance mice! Samantha Mason signs, "Mice friends are nice friends."

Yes, Siik'Maas is a completely alien language to humans, and would be very difficult to learn. However, Tau Ceti Basic (as well as Tradeband, Gutter, etc.) are just as alien to tajara (and other alien species as well). Unless we were to remove the ability for Tau Ceti Basic to be spoken by anything other than humans, which is ridiculous for obvious reasons, I think it would be perfectly acceptable for humans to learn Siik'Maas, though this ability would likely be very uncommon.

So, wait. A brain inside a Ripley is completely unable to use the exterior airlocks at the mining outpost? That should be changed. Also, yes, it is rather annoying having to eject from the suit to interact with anything, forcing you to wear an otherwise redundant hardsuit and internals.
