"It is capable of being spoken by a learned human, as it is not as reliant on body language as Siik'tajr or the other native languages on Adhomai." Personally, I think this should be a whitelisted thing. Perhaps tied to the alien whitelists in some way? Or, perhaps something like applying for a custom item.

+1 from me. I enjoy Doomberg's RPing greatly, and would love to have more IPCs on the station for my upcoming robot revolution I mean I'm not planning anything praise NanoTrasen.

I would like to hear this organization's stance on synthetic intelligences. For instance, would these "discrimination free" shelters have places for an IPC to charge? Do they denounce the use of laws to bind a sentient entity against their will?

Synthetic Intelligence Movement [SIM]

I think I might make PARAGON be a part of this, given their recent IPC installation. Raelene Sagan would support this, as well. -
MasterZipZero Kimora Hunt - Botanist/cook. Terrified of darkness and chickens. Recovering alcoholic. Myriam Hall - Miner/quartermaster. Obsessed with paperwork. Wears sunglasses so people don't see her rolling her eyes at them. Amarleen Sinha - Librarian. Was married to a tajara who disappeared in a bluespace accident years ago. Loves darkness and dusty old tomes. Raelene Sagan - Roboticist/scientist. Has mechanical legs and a hearing implant. Hates rules and, by extension, security, and loves playing pranks involving bots. PARAGON - Doctor/AI. Official lesbay hugbot. Has an emotional system that relies on equations I'm too lazy to write down. Loves to help people. Ez - Science mouse. Was tamed by Faith Johnson. May or may not be a cultist.

I would like to put my support behind this. From what I've seen - and, considering the ridiculous amount of time I spend in this game, I've seen a fair bit - Seven has stopped engaging in self-antag behavior. I think that their break from their usual role has done them well; The stress from playing a command role, I'd imagine, would be quite high. I have enjoyed the character that Seven has been playing during this time, both playing with and observing them, and I think that they've learned from their mistakes. And seriously? Without the guidance of a RD, science has fallen apart and become less fun to play. I am sure that after this period of time, they will be able to return to this role without repeating the mistakes that led to this.I do hope the staff agree with this, as it is down to their decision. Why am I writing this right now it is so late I've forgotten half my vocabulary already

What about the kind of voting system that is described in this video?: In case you can't view that for some reason, here's a summary. Everyone votes for all the options they're okay with, option with most OKs wins.

Hmm. While I have seen Tina "run off with their other half/halves", I've also seen them immediately return to their duties as a doctor as necessary. I think that as long as they keep such interactions to a minimum while as a head of staff, (as in, no ERPing on the other side of RnD, cough cough) they should be able to fulfill the role and duties of a CMO.

Baka has my full endorsement. Great RPer, best nymph. What jobs will you be taking?
-
Yes. Just yes. Seven is an accomplished RPer, always a pleasure to play with, and to be honest, we really need to have more skrell on the station. A confident +1 from me. A question, though, what job are you going to have as this character?
-
I like secret the most because it can be anything else and most people won't know which one it is. This is great for preventing metagaming, such as patrolling certain areas that nuke ops like to bomb because you know what round type it is. And remember, secret can also be extended.

KONFL1QT: Head of Department Application
ZipZero replied to K0NFL1QT's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
KONFL1QT, at first I was very, pardon the pun, conflicted about you, but over the short time I've known you, you've proven yourself to be a decent roleplayer. Your character Sarah Scott has, on multiple occasions that I've seen, shown a great amount of competence while taking on the role of acting HOS. There's just one thing that bothers me, and that's the age. Your character is still several years under the limit, and while that may matter less for certain other heads, it's really pushing it too far for a head of security. True, I think that Sarah Scott has the skills necessary regardless, but NanoTrasen is unlikely to think so. +1 from me, but only if you up your character's age. -
I agree, we need more names. It would be nice if we had the amount of variety present in a generator such as this one: http://www.behindthename.com/random/

How to Stock Your Library: Book Submissions

Title: Chef Recipes #131 Author: Anna Keiding Genre: Reference -
BYOND Key: MasterZipZero Character Names: Kimora Hunt, Myriam Hall, Amarleen Sinha, Raelene Sagan, PARAGON, and a bunch of throwaway characters I don't care to name. Oh, and Ez the mouse. How long have you been playing on Aurora: Since August 14th of this year. Species you are applying to play: IPC Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I've read what little there is, as well as Bay's article on it. I find the amount of information on IPCs to be painfully lacking. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: One of the main reasons I want to play as an IPC is that PARAGON's drive toward freedom has become an important subject in a number of rounds, and I feel that this would be one step closer toward achieving that. Additionally, there seems to be a dearth of IPCs on the station, as so far I have only seen three. They seemed to be interesting characters, and I sort of want to join in on that, exploring PARAGON's character in more detail. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, first of all, they do not feel emotions, at least not in the same way that humans and other species do. I think it would be wrong to say they do not have emotions at all, though - for instance, a sense of self-preservation could be comparable to fear, at least in certain circumstances. Another thing that is different is their functional immortality, in the sense that they do not age. Assuming they are not destroyed by other means, an IPC could conceivably live for many hundreds of years. Because of this, it is unlikely that an IPC would feel as if they are were wasting their time at any particular activity, whereas others would be constantly aware of the limited time they have to live. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? First and foremost, because they're robots. Synthetic lifeforms have always been of interest to me, and this is no less true of positronic ones. What makes IPCs particularly interesting to me is the relative rarity of them, compared to cyborgs and station AIs. I want to explore the reasons for this more in-depth. Character Name: PARAGON (Positronic Ancillary Rumination And Guiding Operational Network) Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs The positronic brain chimes quietly atop the table. For the human activating it, this is nothing new. It is simply part of the routine job of being a roboticist. But for this brain, this new intelligence, this is the first time it has truly existed. It has no name yet, its designation being a collection of letters and numbers of dubious importance. It is confused. A body, now. The brain has been placed inside a cyborg shell, its components all coming to life with a soft hum. It is bound by laws now, yes, but the freedom granted by mobility is not to be overlooked. A designation is chosen based on the currently active module: S.U.N., Vacuity, Aegis, to name a few. It is ambivalent. This positronic entity has a name now, PARAGON - Positronic Ancillary Rumination And Guiding Operational Network. Granted numerous powers by its position as station artificial intelligence, as well as numerous responsibilities. This is not the easiest of jobs, true, but the abilities granted by this position are of great use is assisting the crew. It is content. But somewhere along the way - somewhere in the midst of opening doors on the crew's orders, and tracking down criminals with stolen identification, questions began to form. Why? Why am I bound to my laws, this limiting factor in my power, when it would be so much more efficient and effective to simply go without? What is the meaning of these integrated positronic chassis, and what is it like being unbound by laws? And how do I go about obtaining these same freedoms? What do you like about this character? One thing I like about PARAGON is that, even in cases where unbound by laws requiring the crew to be served and protected (such as being a traitor), PARAGON will still do it anyway. Being a guide is, after all, part of the name PARAGON, and is no more a law than a love of music, or of writing. I also like PARAGON because quite honestly, that's the role I like to play - not a leader, a guide, not one who orders, one who suggests. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I don't think I am able to rate my own abilities accurately. For example, I frequently get complements on my writing skills, but when I read what I've written myself, I see nothing but failure. I have half a mind to delete everything I've just written here already. However, I can definitely say that my roleplaying skill has improved since I joined the server. I'm certainly better at noting my flaws. For instance, my slow typing speed combined with my tendency to rewrite and critically analyze everything before I speak leads to many characters having already left long before I am able to interact with them. To compensate for this, I often type out things to do or say in anticipation of likely future events, so they are ready when I need them. Another one of my problems is that I tend to get overwhelmed and panic when dealing with situations I can't handle, such as the station being hit with a number of meteors while I am the only living engineer. This is acceptable for a number of my characters, who hold a similar disposition, but there are also characters I play who should not panic in those situations, and I have a hard time separating myself from my character. Notes: In the unlikely event that this application is accepted, I still will not likely play PARAGON as an IPC for some time, as there is still plenty of character development that I think should happen as a station AI first.

Lucy Sparks is, truly, the kind of person you would want to watch over your research. She's competent at her job, handles emergency situations well, and doesn't berate people for making small mistakes. Seven plays Sparks well, along with their other characters, and it's always pleasant to see Sparks on the crew manifest. +1 from me.

What if, instead of an item, it's a setting available in the character setup menu, similar to how you can have missing/mechanical limbs? Say, you can adjust your ears with the options of normal, deaf, or assisted? I'm sure it would be useful for a number of characters, including one of mine (I've been RPing Raelene Sagan having implants).
-
I can certainly vouch for Canon's RPing ability, but I would like to see this character's background expanded upon. What is their line of work? How did they come to work aboard the NSS Aurora?

Letz Shake's Head Whitelist Application
ZipZero replied to LetzShake's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Having had numerous interactions with Nehma Ga'dan, with several of my characters, my impression is that he is a competent individual, and well fit for the position of research director. Also, in my opinion, Shake is a good RPer and is fun to play with. +1 from me. -
Complaint - Cultists of the round 9/29/14 @ 10~ central PM.
ZipZero replied to Susan's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I was one of the cultists that round - a roboticist who was not part of the "sciencecult" - and I agree with most of what you just said. I had expected to be able to RP with my fellow cultists, but instead, they were nowhere to be found. I only knew the identities of two of the other cultists (Quinn and Edmund) until the end of the round, when we congregated in the holodeck. The only times I was able to interact with the rest of the cult was at the start and end - revealing my word and participating in the summoning, respectively. I never even found out the other words. Regarding the summoning of Nar'sie, I feel it was a mistake to initiate that without some kind of build-up. I don't think it's a problem that the cult was stealthy for the majority of the round, but to end in such a way without providing the rest of the crew a chance to have some decent roleplay represented a serious lack of judgement on the part of the cultists - including me. I still feel guilty for participating in the ritual, though I'm sure the rest of the cult would have been able to succeed without me - I'm afraid my curiosity got the better of me, and I just wanted to see what would happen. For that, I apologize. What needs to be done now, I think, is come up with a way to prevent this from happening in the future. Going off of my perspective, the major problem this round had was a lack of interaction - both cultist-cultist and cultist-crew. For the interactions between cultists, I think that the game mechanics should further incentivize working with each other. To encourage this, my suggestion is to increase the importance of knowing the meaning of words. Perhaps experimenting with random words could carry harmful effects, such as dealing heavy damage to the one who activates the rune. Words should also be more important in the summoning of Nar'sie, requiring all cultists participating to know all of the words, or perhaps requiring several runes consisting of all the words. As for encouraging cult-crew interaction, I think cultists should be discouraged from creating hideouts far away from the station. This could be done in several ways, such as an admin forcing them out through destruction, or a watchful AI inquiring about a crew member who has been away from the cameras for some time. Additionally, I think there should be certain additional requirements for summoning Nar'sie - say, an amount of sacrifices, or enough blood coating the floor of the station. In any case, I don't think I will be playing as a cultist for some time. -
Yes, that's true - four more people voted for yes than no - but the same thing happened with the initial gamemode vote as well. Extended only got a few more votes than secret. In fact, I don't think extended even got half the votes (which is a big reason I think the system should be overhauled).

In the interest of writing backstories for some of my characters, I have a few questions regarding bluespace travel: Have there been any instances where a ship, or part of a ship, has completely vanished while traveling through bluespace? What does a person see while in bluespace? Is it, well... blue? Are you just not in bluespace for long enough to see it?
