1. So we all know the ins and outs of the Diona's lore and something struck me the other day as sort of weird. Why can a giant ball of cat sized plant-abominations be recognised without an ID? Yes clothing and such is a good indicator for who the Diona is and what their job is but without an ID they should not be able to be recognized by just looking at them if we ignore the clothing as they literally do not have any distinguishable features, including their voice they are totally unrecognizable from each other except in mannerism and structure of how they speak the voices themselves being the same for all Diona. I suggest making it so a Diona without their ID/PDA on their ID slot are shown as "Unknown" instead of showing their name. Yes this is a buff but remember we are talking about someone walking at 2/3 of the speed of a human that also only have around half of the equipment slots any other species have (Do not change that though, I love the limit) As always this is my opinion and I welcome any and all discussion about this, feel free to put a comment about anything related to the subject. -Sebbe
2. Then maybe we should go with this instead.
3. At the current moment there is nothing any crew can identify a gestalt with other than the clothes they wear, or their ID card (or flavour text of course). I think something everyone sorely wish for is a way to customize the gestalts, like grass, fungus or other naturey plant like things. The only thing i can think of to fight this suggestion is that "gestalts do not care for apparel" or something resembling this. It might be a lore thing so im gonna mention SleepyWolf since it's up to him concerning suggestions like this i believe. -Sebbe
4. Just like R&D. *Canned laughter* I'm all for cross department interaction. It'd be good to make it a rule (and therefore influence the robotics culture) to see out a medical professional to do the brain bits BUT if one isn't on then just being able to do it themselves. Thoughts? I think this is another gray area on our server "If the person who's job this is is not on station, you may do so" we see this in the medical rewamp thing with the "virologist may not do anything except virology, unless no other staff are present" but nontheless I personally think a Borgification must be done with the assistance of a trained medical surgeon with experience on cutting sensitive nerve tissue no matter what, if no surgeon is present, bring the dude to the Odin and let the staff there deal with it. But nontheless It's a gray area, i think it falls to the lore guys, if not actual server staff.
5. While speaking in OOC last night we decided that: 1. its weird how Nymphs can eat weeds from planted plants and Gestalts can not (I do not mind this though) 2. A gestalt should be able to secrete Plant fertilizer (nutriment) onto planted plants to fertilize them, We agreed that it might seem a bit OP but we feel like it is such a minor thing that it makes no difference to actual gameplay other than that the walking trees can feed other plants and make it grow. We did not agree on what the stats of the fertilizer should be, but i feel like the same stats as EZ-nutriment or less is fine. If not the above, i feel like when a nymph "rolls around in the plant" interaction can do the above instead, give some gameplay to the poor nymphs.
6. So before we get into the controversial thread i would like to preface this by making it known I DO NOT PLAY ROBOTICIST, I will probably make a character in the near future for it, but at the current moment i do not know much about their work and regulations. I just noticed this during a round last night. With that out of the way let's begin shall we? So last night we had a round where i am 90% sure it was a ling round where the ling was forced into borgification by the security/whoever controlls that. Being the nice 800 something year old medical Diona i noticed that the brain extraction was to be done by a roboticist, which i found strange as extracting a brain and then attaching it to a nerve interface seemed a bit to advanced for what a person who works with robot's and their brains (cant remember name) I asked in OOC after the round and Menown I believe answered me and we sort of came to a grey area where we were not sure who was in the right(as far as i know, OOC went a bit out of hand) I am willing to believe this can be possible, if either the person doing this has both the education of a surgeon and the education of a roboticist, but as it stands i am not willing to believe a roboticist, specialised in working with IPC's and Borgs/AI (Positronic brains, thats what it was called) can successfully detach a brain from a spinal chord, preserving all needed nerve endings and then re-attaching the brain and nerve endings to a MMI sucessfully. I feel a surgeon should do the operation of the brain and reattachment to the MMI, then hand that to the roboticist so he/she can borgify or IPCify the brain. I might be 100% wrong here but i had to get answers for this as it makes no sense in my head. -Sebbe
7. Looking at the #game_status discord channel, I see at least one round of extended daily - if not more. I think the current balance we have is good enough, and satisfies both parties. I find extended to be every 7 rounds or so, I personally do not mind extended as i enjoy the roleplay i do at my department and enough injured come to the medbay regardless of round type to keep us occupied. I do not think we can have the "extended rounds are cannon" rule if we mix minor antag things into it. I am willing to admit i have not played on Aurora long enough to be willing to actually wish to make an impact on what the different round modifiers are, but i enjoy extended how it is now. On another note i wished Cortial Borers were more implemented, but as said we have other problems and from what i see, the Github is filling up as it is and we might want to calm down with major changes untill at least all the major problems are solved. Just my two cents though, server is awesome and i will not fight against the change, nor will i fight for it. -Sebbe
8. Awesome! Thanks man!
9. As someone who basicly only play Dionaea, I have to say that typing becomes second nature, takes more time but it's something you get used to. I'm not against it, but I don't think complaining about immersing you into your character is the argument we should use. Well anyway the auto hiss is optional and being able to think about what I'm typing while I'm typing it is pleasant. +1
10. So in the timeline the Diona are not mentioned. I don't know if it intentional or not, but i feel like they should be mentioned at least in the Skrell section as the Skrell have knowledge on them and are actively integrating them into their society as a workforce. so please senpai, mention us. -Sebbe
11. Reee no Dionaea stuff >:c
12. In theory, you're correct. In practice, nearly everyone just knows the name of everyone else whom they can see the names of on their screen, because few people can be bothered to feign ignorance. I also thought nymphs get to name themselves. I swear I've seen them scurrying around with Diona style names. I manage to feign ignorance, but most people probably sum it up to me playing as a Dionaea. Nymphs get to name themselves yes, but nymphs dont have names. Gestalts or higher forms didn't have names either before Skrell and humans started to name them, after that gestalts started to chose names.
13. Yes. Pugs are ugly and dumb. I don't see the appeal. Anyway, I guess telling apart diona nymphs wouldn't be a bad idea, but you can already pick a name for them when you spawn as one.. *coughs* You don't know the name of shit without asking or having an IC reason to know their name *coughs* And Diona Nymphs do not have names.
14. Hey man i used to have full brain epileptic seizures, i had the 100% version of epilepsy where my whole body shook and all that. And i'm more than willing to describe the few short seconds of the seizure before i black out from pain. For me the seizures started as a weird feeling of my brain floating or being fuzzy (hard to explaing) then seconds later the seizure would tense up my right arm so much it would sort of hold my hand above my chest, all this happening while my arm feels like its being broken, cut into, beaten, rubbed by razor wire and gently brushed by my mother like she used to do when telling me goodnight stories as a child. I would have a few seconds to try to force myself to the ground (Im guessing 2 or 3 seconds, feels like an eternity when you are being tortured by your brain) then i would feel half a second or whole second of my whole body tensing up and the feelings in my arm going over to my whole body, including any other feeling you can imagine, and i black out from pain. Usually after a full body epileptic seizure when i wake up again i had to puke, and i could not function as a human the rest of the day (sometime the next day too) you get super sleepy and can not think coherently untill you get rest (12 hours ish, depends how long the seizure lasted) Got diagnosed free of epilepsy this year so i'm happy im done with that hell, i would only wish something like that on my enemies because im sure its a better alternative to torture. So i'm not sure a full body seizure can be implemented, but it's not up to me -Sebbe Edit: Forgot to mention, epileptic seizures can cause brain damage, i have a hard time with memory now because of it so take that into account as you wish.
15. Hey man we +1 this app as it is a pretty cool read, and from what we remember in-game you are pretty decent at Arrpee and your characters are cool. And we can never get enough tentacle monsters on the station. <3 -Sebbe
16. We suggest people who needs eye correcting (glasses, contacts) gets headaches if not wearing glasses over a long time. We also suggest people with glasses can not recognize others based on sight without glasses. oh and +1 to this suggestion. -Sebbe
17. There is a "backdoor" present in the med bay I feel is perfectly resonable for them to have access too. +1 I don't see why not
18. I'm assuming they are also locked behind a "event" wall? It saddens me that borers are not in the regular rotation as I have had a great time in the past both being infested as, and infesting people as a borer. In my eyes it's more or less a role which you have to roleplay to have anywhere near a pleasurable experience.
19. Alright so i dont usually vote on applications but i fell like i need to for this one: -1 Reasoning: your english is a mess, which is fine as the mistakes are minor and not extremely important over your ability to roleplay. But your backstory is a huge mess, contradicting itself and being a general mess in how it's written. You wrote and two sentences later you write; I understood you were talking about the follower after reading through the paragraph a couple of times but it still came as a mess. Generally your story seems rushed and it feels like you don't care for what you typed here overall, I don't know how Tajara work that much as i feel like they are more there for furries to enjoy (I have roleplayed with Tajara and i find them interesting and enjoyable to roleplay with, i'm just giving my thoughts here) Anyway that's my thoughts on your application, thank you for reading my feedback. -Sebbe
20. So im strolling around the code and find this: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/tree/master/code/modules/mob/living/parasite After reading through it it to me looks like a type of Borer, just with slightly different abilities and RP potential. So i ask thee, what is this... thing? -Sebbe
21. So according to the Wiki specifically in the "reproduction" section it is stated that <> Aka a Diona pod once planted will not die unless attacked or eaten, but in-game the pods seem to die quite easily even whet meeting all conditions. So i propose a change either to the wiki in form of a lore that explains why the seeds we get on the station sucks, something like <> or something similar. OOOOOR We change the code so a Diona pod can basically not die unless attacked (so gardener can remove them with their hatchet) Another thing that bugs me, but might only be a bug is that ALL nymphs that do not get player inhabited die, witch i understand since it's the only way to get seeds, but i feel like it should be a 60% mortality rate and a 40% chance of it becoming an NPC (It will also make it easier to become a gestalt if one of us split to save our lives, or a nymph gets inhabited by a player and wants to become a gestalt.) It's up to SleepyWolf and his slaves.
22. Honestly it seems that as a Dionaea people listen to us more than what i would say is necessary, BUT i honestly think that is good as well. A Dionae is intelligent and it learns from everything that happens around it in a 360 degree view, so you never know if it is sharing some of it knowledge with you, or if it simply does not know the consequences of its actions. I think this regulation is more based on the characters upholding it during the rounds, I think whatever the choice is, if it fits in an RP scenario, its up to security to apprehend people breaking the regulation and the other crew to do what they think fits in the situation.
23. This thread is funny because yesterday i played a round where spiderlings spawned in my workplace (botany) and my character, a Dionaea, asked for crew to not hurt them because "eight legs not... do anything wrong." or something close to that. the crew responded with "your funeral" and forgot about the spiders. soooo system is fucked
24. some of the above is implemented: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/3829 -Sebbe
25. So at the current moment the difference from lore -> gameplay is a bit... iffy. Dont get me wrong, how it works now is more or less bug-free and polished except for this: 1. Currently a nymph can take DNA to learn language and gain biomass (Biomass gain is still broken, but it's listed on github by SleepyWolf so it will probably be fixed in the future) I dont see why a gestalt lose this ability as it is not stated in the lore that the change from being a single nymph to a network removes this ability, gestalts still have mouths (?) to eat food. I might just be stating something already getting worked on but i could not find anything about it on github. I suggest we add the ability to the gestalt, but instead of the message and instant action of the nymph, when the gestalt does it it makes a "accept or deny" prompt for the player-character it attempts to take DNA from. 2. A gestalt cant "devour creature" witch i didnt notice before a barman attempted to feed me a monkey and i noticed the lack of the ability. This one i cant agree with if the "change from nymph to gestalt removed this ability" excuse gets used, a part of the charm about the Dionaea is that they can eat almost everything (Nymphs can eat PAIs witch is hilarious) and a gestalt would almost certainly not lose the ability to eat creatures. I suggest that we add the "devour creature" and maybe upgrade it so a gestalt can eat a human sized beings. (The nymph is limited to corgi sized beings (witch is also a lie since nymphs can eat giant spiders)) 3. Add some of the things in this (assumed) dead thread https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9300&p=86110&hilit=diona#p86110 3 is already a thing so it can be ignored, but it would be nice to know how powerfull it is, as I assuma that at the moment it is like being injected with pure poison that needs immediate medical attention. 1 will probably be hard to code but i believe it would be possible as the "slime persons" is a thing that exists with the ability to split and assume control over other "slime husks". So i believe in you coders! 2 I agree should be a thing just instead of from a nymph its from a gestalt, that way the evolution makes sense. Nymph -> Gestalt -> Colossus etc. but adding anything further than a Colossus does not make sense. I suggest we add the things i stated above and the changes i suggested to the ideas. Overall. I am open for ideas and suggestions, but in the end SleepyWolf and his slaves decide everything.
