  1. I have an extremely controversial fix for this, but if I've learned anything, it's that these forums love extreme controversy: Make rounds longer / extend the time before voting for a crew transfer is allowed. I personally think one of the larger reasons nobody does anything is because there's no way to commit to fully renovating an area AND basking in it being finished in the 1 1/4 hours Engineering has free on an Extended round after the engine, shields, SMES', and solars have been set up. Few people want to do elaborate, interesting antagonist gimmicks due to the fact that as, for example, a wizard you have about an hour and a half after deciding a gimmick and choosing your spells. If you're a 'peaceful' wizard, that hour and a half can get cut down to forty five minutes after dealing with security. Events would have actual time to do things with the crew rather than spending ninety percent of the shift talking to command or security. Not only would longer rounds (Maybe just by half an hour or an hour, at first) fix these problems, but they'd have a secondary, much-needed effect, as well: In my opinion, it'd calm down the sheer amount of Urist McValids in security. A longer round would mean less 'click bad guy until horizontal' time, and thus more time for people in security to learn to either A: Actually be sociable like the rest of the departments are forced to be 90% of the time by them hogging all the good events Or B: Find ways to include themselves in goings-on that don't involve punching antags to death. Like I said, highly controversial, but I think it'd be worth at least a test run to see if it gave people the ability to actually be creative, do fun things, and play cool gimmicks.
  2. I'll hit this with my +1. I enjoy all of my interactions with Richter and personally can't wait to see how well Xor does as an IPC, as well!
  3. This isn't entirely relevant to the topic at hand, but I've only ever seen my temperature bar go up while I'm in a hardsuit if the hardsuit had a burn on it (e.x after it got hit by an emitter). Though I only ever wear Engineer hard suits, so I'm not totally sure.
  4. I think that's a phenomenal idea, actually! Not only does it encourage roleplay in a way that doesn't affect people who genuinely are good roleplayers, but it means that people who never take off their hardsuits are more liable for their powergaming rather than just 'i didn't know hardsuits were uncomfortable'. I would without a doubt support that implementation.
  5. I don't really want to go into an in-depth argument about this, as it'd be a bit thread-hijacky. As such, I'll just note that I play more shifts where the kitchen isn't productive than shifts where it is (My common playtime being 8 PM - 4 AM (CDT)) and point out that that was only one - and I'd even go as far as to say the smallest - of several points leveled against this being a mechanic.
  6. Comparing Sims games, Rimworld, and Dwarf Fortress to a high roleplay server on SS13 is not helping. There's a clear-cut difference between them. Those are roleplaying games. Aurora, and other high-roleplay servers are more of a roleplay platform. It may sound dumb and 'artsy', but there's a pretty notable difference. Try comparing an RPG like WoW or Rimworld to SS13, and the base premise is massively different. Those games are about overcoming challenges. The needs system is there to add a challenge. The server shouldn't be about being 'Challenged' in any way other than to develop an interesting character and enjoy playing as them, as well as making sure other people enjoy having them around. Mechanics are not roleplay, roleplay is roleplay. This is why some of the best roleplaying platforms of all time (I.e Dungeons and Dragons) give so much power to a gamemaster on what happens. Because adding things as firm, set mechanics force focus away from the roleplay and onto nourishing your 10 stat bars like some god-awful early access indie survival game. Adding mechanics to force roleplay will not force roleplay; It will attract people who can game / work around the mechanics to get an advantage, and push away people who are actually competent roleplayers without an automated system slapping them on the wrist for eating a candy bar. Again, Coalf put this better than I could:
  7. I appreciate this as an ability both because it adds something new for Vampires to play around with, and helps combat the extreme meta-game against Changelings coming back. Not to mention it could seriously aid in roleplay - I've been wanting to do a 'Rising from the dead' gimmick as a vampire (Well, changeling) for quite some time now. Big +1 as a toggle, it might just be me but I can't see any real drawback to it, sans people forgetting they've left it on. I'd definitely suggest adding the automated sending of a message to the user of it along the lines of 'Your hands feel cold.', 'Your chest feels still.' etc etc every now and then to remind them that they do, indeed, have no pulse.
  8. I'm going to go ahead and give this a -1, because it feels less like a mechanic meant to encourage roleplay and more like one more thing turning the server into a really weird game of The Sims (Much like 'debuffs' for junk food). The changes to food make this an easy system to powergame as well as punishing low-pop players who may not have a chef AND have to run around constantly as they're the only ones in their department. The extended hardsuit usage is only really a concern for miners/engineers, people who really don't need to worry about their pain threshold. I think Coalf said it better than I can hope to in that this is another mechanic turning player characters into video game characters instead of roleplay characters, and a mechanic like this would deter roleplay significantly more than it would help it.
  9. First off, thank you very much for the questions and criticism! I was very much hoping for a bit of feedback on the character. I'll tackle these one at a time and try not to get too off track with each answer. A mistake in proofreading, my bad; the name is Qyrrnyl. Qyrrnyl is male. The total lack of gender pronouns was a (potentially misguided) attempt at showing in the writing itself rather than textdumps / overt recital the concern (or lack thereof) of gender in Skrell society. Looking back on it, that information should've been included in the post-notes as well. Turqlp is his brother, and thus also a male. Though it embarrasses me to say so, I'll need a bit more context or a reference to properly answer this, as in the course scanning over the wiki/forums/lore channel I never saw anything about the current administration being oppressive. And assuming this was a mistype toward the era of Synthetic Oppression (hopefully to no offense!) I'll say that he's quite immensely disgusted from both a broad and personal perspective; He views the loss of life as senseless and tragic, as well as having immense concerns about how well he'll be able to pass along the genes and legacy of both himself and his parents. I'll admit that this is more of an oversight on my part rather than a minor mistake. My research into Xyla came up relatively blank and the cliffs note about cities lying in ruin due to the Glorsh Rebellion didn't quite stick with me as well as I'd have liked it to, at which point I likely should've consulted the lore channel/forums. With the new information provided (Once again, very much appreciated!) I do plan on retconning and editing this bit of the backstory should I need to re-write the application or if the character goes through, though I'll leave it be for archiving's sake at the time being. Even masterpieces can only be watched so many times frame-for-frame before they've been watched effectively to death (Which I will very firmly say Qyrrnyl has done.) I'm a bit disappointed in myself for not elaborating more on hobbies, as it's what makes a character seem fun and enjoyable in my opinion. The first hobby to really come to mind is the formal dance. It's both a mentally and physically active art of a hobby, not to mention dance is the undisputed universal language of expression, and thus crosses the rather tough language barrier. The second more active hobby would be cuisine. Not nearly to a professional level, but rather as a way to turn the obligation of eating into an enjoyable activity. As for less active, more 'lazy' activities - because I'll go out on a limb and assume even Skrell do need something to do before bed - I'll plant Qyrrnyl firmly in preferring cinema to literature, both because of the slightly more relaxing qualities of film and the details one can catch with intense observation. I can definitely work on this and flesh it out, but there's not much I can do in response other than ensuring that, in spite of the emphasis put on it, I do consider it a very momentous occasion and the 'second turning point of his life', a phrase I cut out because I felt it was a bit cheesy. His brother saw and sees relative success in the field of arts of music, though not nearly celebrity status. The two's parents see it as a disappointment, though certainly nothing to separate a family over; more of a dishonorable child than the black-sheep of the family. I like to imagine that though they follow very different fields, the combination of Qyrrnyl's interest in expression through dance and his brother's musical ability does bring them closer together. Both of their parents are still alive and in their respective fields, with his geneticist mother working alongside others to further advance and improve cloning, and his cyberneticist father continuing a less research and more practice-oriented career in replacing and maintaining cybernetics. The two also remain in regular contact with them. This is definitely insubstantial fluff, but it's very wholesome insubstantial fluff I very much like. And lastly, but not leastly! I'm very much hoping the answers provided have helped clear up this feeling! The application was definitely focused much too heavily on his backstory rather than him as a person, and reading back through with the context of the questions I've realized that's a bit of a shame, considering I do like the character I've created in my mind, and could probably spend quite some time talking about him as a person. Once again, you have my immense thanks both for taking the time to really read and analyze the application, as well as giving me quite a bit more to elaborate on, and an excuse to do so.

Reporting Personnel: Naomi Ray Rank of Reporting Personnel: Medical Doctor Game ID: bVo-aQHl Personnel Involved: (Name, Rank: Offender/Witness/Other (Ckey)) Frank Chaplin - Perpetrator - (Unknown Ckey) Jack McJacko - Witness - (Snake2512) B-4 - Witness - (Unknown Ckey) Time of Incident: 07:40 Real time: (0120 CDT 07/17/2018) Location of Incident: Medical Lobby Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [X]Neglect of Duty []Harassment []Assault []Misconduct []Other _____ Overview of the Incident: (General description of the incident, to include as much detail as is deemed necessary) At the time specified, a patient underwent the process of cloning by the CMO. The patient later walked out of the medical bay in full security gear. The Chief Medical Officer asked if anybody had informed them that they'd been cloned. I verified that the chief medical officer had started the cloning processed and told them that as such, it would be their job. This sparked a heated debate over whether or not patients should be informed of their own death; The Chief Medical Officer said they should not as it can cause psychological issues. When I continued insisting otherwise, the Chief Medical Officer quoted his veterancy over me - myself having worked here for roughly eight months, and himself apparently much longer- as a way to dismiss my argument. There was a small cold outbreak, and thus the issue was left to lie. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: No; There was no higher power currently available. Actions taken: I attempted to contact the head of personnel, but they had since gone to sleep. The CMO was the highest power as far as medical SOP is concerned, and we had no IAA or Captain. Additional Notes: Not only did this leave a person without the knowledge that they had been cloned - a clear breach of the ethics and morals expected of us - but the CMO also showed gross neglect in actually handling the patient after cloning from everything I saw. The sheer stubbornness and refusal to accept the possibility that he was wrong is dangerous to the medical department as a whole.
  12. BYOND Key: Zaeperry99 Character Names: Naomi Ray, Alexander Barker Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Pale green. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: The Skrell lore has an inherent charm to it for me which I find personally enjoyable to read about, and would also enjoy playing a character from. The wide emotional capability of the Skrell along with the difficulty they have in expressing emotions through Tau Ceti basic provides interesting roleplay challenges which I'd like to experience. Lastly, their short and concise way of speaking appeals to me for a reason I honestly can't articulate. I think it's quaint and I like it a lot. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: This is a pretty massive list of things which I don't quite feel can be boiled down into not several paragraphs, but I'll try my best. First and foremost is the aforementioned trouble in communicating with those of other species'. Some of the most notable differences between Skrell and humans are their extremely liberal interpretation to change and adaptation coupled with their somewhat paradoxical tendency toward refusing to accept fault or admit wrongdoings. Skrell entertainment takes similar forms to that of Humans but is different in the nuance; most notably to me is the comedy which leaves those of other species' confused and not entertained which I empathize with, being extremely not funny myself. Character Name:Qrrnylt Wiirshln-Xyla Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Forenote: I apologize greatly for the length of this as the 'Approximately 2 paragraphs' text glares at me, but unlike the Skrell (in storytelling, at least!) I am not good at keeping things extremely concise. Qrrnyl Wiirshln was hatched to a Geneticist and Cyberneticist in the city of Gialok, both parents being followers of the Weishii religion. Eleven years after their birth, another child was hatched to their parents, this one is given the name of Turqlp Wiirshln. The second child's birth was considered a joyous event, including by their older sibling. After the requisite years, Qrrnyl graduated from primary schooling. Young Adulthood: In order to continue bringing pride to their parents, the now adult Skrell immediately enrolled in a venerable (though not famous) school of medicine and medical science. Turqlp didn't quite follow suit, completing primary schooling and immediately pursuing combined arts of painting, sculpting, and fashion. Qrrnyl spent multiple decades in the local university pursuing the fields of medicine, chemistry, and various medical sciences, though those primarily consisted of genetics. After the years in college, the still 'young' Skrell joined the field of medicine. While the concept of medical research was enticing, Qrrnyl still followed Weishii and felt that even with the importance of research in spirituality, closer bonds could be formed through the field of medicine. Nineteen years were spent in this field until life for all Skrell changed in 2413, with the discovery of Humanity. Adulthood: Like many Skrell, Qrrnyl was immediately driven to learn more about the humans upon their discovery, though mainly found interest in their biology and anatomy, and how it differed from those native to Qerrbalak. The Skrell had done exceedingly well in practice compared to college and had a relatively proud track-record. After much consideration, they left their career the next year and applied for the Aliose University of Medical Sciences; Surprisingly, amidst the wave of new applicants, Qrrnyl's application was accepted and they quickly began classes on Human medicine. Post-Graduation: After nearly the same amount of time spent in their first university, Qrrnyl graduated from AUMS, Qrrnyl alongside the new rush of medical doctors, geneticists and chemists began finding their places among humanity, though that mostly entailed medicine for Qrrnyl. Once job opportunities became available with Nanotrasen, the Skrell seized the opportunity; A chance to both form bonds and treat people whilst furthering and being near research. They were assigned to the NSS Canes Venatici ((Note: I genuinely don't know if the Canes Venatici existed in the year in question (2438), and couldn't find much in the lore about decommissioned space stations. Please do let me know if this needs to be tweaked/retconned.)) Eventually, in the year 2460, Qrrnyl sought to further research even further; Treating people in a hospital owned by a research wasn't quite enough, they sought to treat the researchers themselves. As such, the Skrell applied for a transfer to the NSS Aurora. What do you like about this character? Qrrnyl is driven by a passion to learn, as well as a passion to form close bonds to those they know. Though they're not abnormal by any Skrell standards, they still feel relatively unique to me - even though they'd likely seem just like any other Skrell to the average human character. The pursuit of medicine, I feel, makes it apparent that Qrrnyl is very empathetic toward the suffering of others. Though not overtly emotional about suffering, they are quite concerned about the well-being of others; I enjoy playing characters who feel this way, and think we could do with more of them. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10 for chairRP, 5/10 for intense/combat RP. I try to avoid the latter. Notes: First of all, thank you for reading all of this! Both to the lore team responsible and the people who I mercilessly shove my app at for reviews who care enough to read it, even though it is by no means their job. Something I wanted to add in but never felt was opportune and didn't want to shove a billion more paragraphs in: Qrrnyl appended -Xyla to the end of their name after visiting the ruins of Xyla, and finding themselves completely captivated by both the beauty and historical significance of them.
  13. While I do like the premise of this, there is one big thing that kills it for me. As a frequent medbay player, it takes actual genuine effort not to immediately distrust new names. Most of the decent doctors are already well known and seeing a new surgeon/medical doctor/resident immediately creates a premonition of 'This person is probably going to be incompetent.' The same goes for any other department I've played in, but the medbay is my go-to example. While that isn't too harmful in its own right, I feel like this addition would likely reinforce it. A new name is liable to be either (a) incompetent or (b) a traitor rather than just incompetent. Even with the best attempts at remaining unbiased from metagaming / powergaming it does still influence people's judgment, and I fear this would just reinforce that.
  14. To start off, I'll make it apparent that I know Dusk out of character and actually suggested they join Aurora as I know they're a talented roleplayer and good at engineering. In my time playing with him I've been proven right, seeing as how I've been taught a bit and a few of my in-character engineering questions have been answered by Zachary. He's competent at engineering, and I'm sure the same would go for command. So I'll give this my +1, even though with my very respected opinion I've probably in reality just chained you with a -2. Best of luck recovering from my curse.
  15. The most dangerous-to-others disabilities are schizophrenia (which can be diagnosed from the patient's hallucinations) and possibly imaginary friends. Before the addition of mental traumas, average doctors (with experience / basic training) were able to inform and release cloned patients, but were usually told to either heavily suggest they see a psychologist/psychiatrist or schedule an implied appointment. I'd say that if the mental traumas were diagnosed and had medicine prescribed for them, somebody would be able to return to work immediately so long as they saw a psychiatrist within the week. However, that could vary from role to role. For the most part, I worry that making them unable to work would be another way of cloning without a psychiatrist essentially removing somebody from the round, though there's a fair bit of wiggle room in my opinion of that. On the attacking people, that'd be beyond me to say, though I'd probably take the stance of "Aggression and anger is okay, outright attacking people isn't (without admin approval first)". By the way, I appreciate the feedback from you two! I was worried this thread wasn't going to go anywhere.
  16. The best outcome for this, in my opinion, would be exactly that. The ability to clone a person with just a chemist and medical doctor trained in informing, as it was previously, rather than the now regularly believed staffing of medical doctor, chemist, psychiatrist, and sometimes surgeon, which is more than we usually have at peak hours, and more than we ever have during dead hours. As I can't stress this enough, putting this clearly somewhere other than the forums would be the best, since it seems almost every dispute in the medbay comes from policy disagreements.
  17. As of lately, this situation's evolved a bit larger in my eyes, as I was told in-character that 'Cloning without a psychiatrist will have your license suspended'. Since the addition of mental traumas, the basic mindset has been 'Do not clone unless there's a psychiatrist'. This is (In my opinion) people believe only psychiatrists can prescribe psychiatrical medication. The things I most want clarity on are: Who can prescribe medication for mental traumas? Secondly, as a new issue (do let me know if this needs to be a new threat) Do you HAVE (or even need) to have a psychiatrist/psychologist aboard in order to clone people? And thirdly, could the answers to these two be added to the wiki / rules / what have you in order to clear up the common misconceptions either I have or others have?
  18. I may be a little bit late to respond, but I am responding! Making it so that heretics / edict breakers aren't executed is probably the best way to go about making this lore more believable and less joked about other than a full re-write of base doctrine and beliefs (which would be a colossal problem for roleplay) or canonically barring all employment / glassing the planets / removing the tribunal, which I don't want even as a vocal detester of the religion because people enjoy playing believable characters from Dominia. The main reason I've witnessed the Tribunal be scrutinized is due to the whole murderous aspect, which non-murderers find icky in the kindest of words. There's no such thing as a perfect in-lore religion that's not based off reality, because you would need to write an entire holy book (with all the education and trouble that entails) and history (see above) which is just completely impractical. As such, removing murder as a base belief is the best way to get people off the religion's back ICly and make people feel less confused by its existence OOC. Half of the largest IC debates I've seen were started with somebody bragging about their stoning k/d ratio (The other half being people insulting Dominia for fun). TL;DR, Removing execution as a core belief is an excellent idea both to make the religion more believable and to minimize the scrutiny people give it that no in-fiction religion could survive, sans one made in a joint effort between Tolkein and Karl Barth.
  19. I've seen a lot of disagreement on who can prescribe psychiatric medication or diagnose mental traumas (and thus prescribe the medications) I up until recently figured it was only psychiatrists who would do so before realizing that doesn't make a whole lot of sense (though that'd be another thread entirely), and I've heard from others and believed for the most part that only psychiatrists can prescribe psychiatric medication or claim that somebody has a specific trauma. Regardless as to which of these is the case, a quick addition to the wiki / rules clearly stating "[Role x]. [Role y], and [Role z] may diagnose and prescribe medicine for mental traumas" or "Only [Role/s] may diagnose and prescribe medicine for mental traumas" would clear up confusion as well as prevent any future confusion. Thanks for taking the time to read.
  20. I've seen a lot of this 'Dominia was made a meme' and 'People treat Dominia like a joke' mentality, and I can only attribute the logic to a misunderstanding. I don't think so many people (or at least, myself) think Dominia is a meme as the Moroz Holy Tribunal is a meme. Which it is. I think Dominia as a nation is interesting and I've even looked into making a character from it, but the Tribunal is my point of contemption for several reasons. To start, the Tribunal is a meme. I don't believe the playerbase made it a meme, or that it was a meme 'before it was revamped', because when I first took a good hard look at it a couple of months ago, I saw 'theocratic dictatorship with a focus on unerring loyalty, punishment by death to heresy, and laws handed down on a regular basis by God" and realized I'd already been making memes about Dominia since around (sorry for making the probably over-done comparison) the time half of my friends started playing WH40k. From a theological standpoint, there are no small amounts of issues with the Tribunal. For me most of them don't stem from the actual religion, but rather the implications socially and politically of it's spread and why it would've been blasted to bits by a larger power before they could finally lift off their first planet. Naturally, there's the whole anti-IPC mentality. That's as fine a basis as any, and I'm surprised the space Catholic Church hasn't gone down the same road of obliterating them (Yeah, I'm throwing shade at my boy McJacko.) However, it has no right to exist in the larger scope of the universe as a whole. The concept that Nanotrasen and Tau Ceti looked at a religion which MANDATES that people treat synthetics as lesser beings who should be destroyed and went "Yeah they'd make for fine workers aboard our vessels which have a significant synthetic presence" is a meme in and of itself. The first argument I can see being tossed against this is some 'Dominia has too much power / money / whatever to not let in" which is just silly seeing as how they were basically confined to the area their space-cult had control over up until slavery was banned (Which I have more gripes about, as 'Indentured serfdom where your lord can completely take everything you own if you piss him off' is still slavery.) The point I'm trying to make here would take a text document of several thousand characters. Trust me, I know from experience. As such, I'll kind of just move to the big point, here: Look at the Tribunal, and what it stands for, and what it demands, before putting it through a horribly mangled three two filters of Socrates. "Would any interstellar power or corporation allow somebody with this mentality to work for them?" And "Would anyone who didn't have a gun to their head / IMMENSE amounts of meth in their system actually believe this, or even convert to it at all?" Naturally, I'm biased, but I'd say the first, twelfth, thirty-ninth, and one-hundredth edict don't pass this test.

He put it under the sink to activate it, before gripping the monkey and throwing it. Though this caused a bit of concern it wasn't enough to say anything about until he actually began clawing at the monkey until the healthHUD read it as orange. The Head of Personnel then went on to eat the monkey chunk by chunk, until the floor was covered with blood and gore. Shortly after he left, the partial witness Ali Holmes arrived. The Head of Personnel did later return to clean it up, before informing us that he'd instead claw a monkey to death in his office and eat that as to not upset us. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: Jamie Knight, Chief Medical Officer. Actions taken: The shift was coming to a close, and the Chief Medical Officer suggested that if I wanted to report it, I should file an incident report. There was no captain or Nanotrasen Official aboard during the time of the incident.
  22. The round was an outlier, and the mechanic is pretty low on the stuff what makes me angery list, but it's definitely there, and I hadn't seen a suggestion to wipe it yet.
  23. While I do understand the need for a limitation to prevent rune-spam, this probably isn't the way to do it. With the current rune limit system, one oblivious person in a sub-level, or a few oblivious cultists planting hidden runes around and not communicating well enough. can take away every other cultist's abilities, sans paper. A suggestion for a better system from me personally would be a limit, but in a range. Something to prevent you from having more than, say, 3 runes within view of each other. This does stem somewhat from salt due to the current round wherein the cult wasn't able to make any runes whatsoever past the one hour mark of a 2:30 - 3:00 round, and the person who knew where they were was dead. Let me know what you think, and give your own suggestions (And experiences, if you have any)!
  24. Hi! I mostly play med, so I do hope my answers are relatively accurate (and useful.) 1: I'd say so. I've never had much confusion about what individual person does. 2: See answer 1. 3: Kind of. I've seen more than a few psychiatrists or chemists treating patients, but it's a pretty rare occurrence. 4: I don't see virologists get played very often, and I can see why. You've got one very specific job, and the only real fun is if there's a virus outbreak. Chemists may have to mass-produce a drug during a crisis, and doctors are always being called around, but virologists just have very little to do. Which makes not having one during an outbreak all the worse. 5: See answer 4. The biggest problem I've experienced was during graveyard shifts, with neither a chemist nor a surgeon, when somebody's cloned. That person has brain damage, and without either A: Having a character experienced in chemistry, B: Power/metagaming to make alkysine, or C: Praying/Faxing, which always feels a bit like overkill for 5u of alkysine, there's essentially nothing you can do. This bugs me greatly, as the whole part of playing Medical is that you can almost always do something to treat wounded people. 6: I don't see Nurse getting played a lot, but I do see it every now and then. I'd say the biggest problem with it is that a nurse's role would be things like administering injections and treating basic damage, the main problem being that in 70% of any given round, the actual doctors/surgeons/paramedics are fighting over the tiniest scrape because there's not much to do. While I find people playing the nurse incredibly useful during crises, they have the virology problem of not having much to do until their specific skills are required. Thanks for the read, and sorry if it was a bit long.
  25. Right then, seeing the really good points raised, I'll go ahead and call this /thread.
