  1. There will never be a universal outline for how a "Space Settlement" should look under the current lore, which leaves such broad miscellany to the players and instead focuses mostly on things that could possibly impact the denizens of the NSS Aurora. That said, it is not unreasonable to imagine such a common trope of space stations could be prevalent, although I should mention that not only does our current (albeit non-habitation) station not reflect that design, it is implied that the NMSS Odin (A megastation with habitation elements) also does not reflect that design, and there were once mechanical items to explain this - the Gravity generator, which would likely be either commonplace or not.
  2. So long as the above is understood, this application is accepted.
  3. Your application states that your character is a worker subservient to hive Zo'ra, yet you say your first character (presumably the character you are applying for) will be "standard Vaurca green". Please note that there is no "standard Vaurca" colour, but rather Hive standard colours. Green is the colour of K'lax, while red is the standard of Zo'ra. For a worker class, specifically "RGB 71, 21, 21" I will formally review this on the 16th of July.
  4. As many others have pointed out, this is unnecessarily redundant. If you need access to a department for an "emergency" then you can bust down a window or airlock with your handy-dandy fireaxe that paramedics have. Alternatively, you can just ask the AI. If the AI fails to respond quickly enough, or does not see your message, then oh well. That's the consequence of not paying attention, and failing to pay attention should be appropriately punished - as it is now, without this crutch.
  5. I will look into making this possible.
  6. Implementation will be detailed shortly.
  7. Cyborgs have the same travel limitations as humans.
  8. Posted a news article demoting all Vaurca, preluding to a shortly upcoming "Peer-Review" system: http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=2981&p=64982#p64982 Edited the wiki to make clear these occupation restrictions: https://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Vaurca#Playing_Unbound
  9. NanoTrasen Demotes All Vaurcae! NanoTrasen representatives clarified on this last point by explaining that after finishing the process of demoting all Vaurca, NanoTrasen would be instating a "Peer-Review" system in coordination with CCIA and local "Heads of Staff". They confidently informed the public that the new system would process each prospective Unbound on a highly individual basis, with reviews performed by the aforementioned Heads of Staff to ensure a stable and fair process. They then informed us that additional materials concerning the exact details of the vetting process will be made available to NanoTrasen employees via the CCIA division."
  10. Baystation's Odin is sufficient for the purposes of the Odin - being a transition to the succeeding round. Our previous Odin was to vacuous to no benefit.
  11. The new map will feature completely new z-levels, however the Odin is not modified to heavily.
  12. Pets will remain the same as they are now - Pun Pun for the bar, Ian for the HoP, Poly for the Capitan, Lamarr for the RD, Bones for the CMO, Cratey for the HoS. I don't know what you mean. Beepsky and ED-209s and any other bot will patrol the z-level they are currently on. They cannot climb ladders, so unless they are transported via lifts they need not worry.
  13. Medbay has two working theaters now, yes. The pictures of the Medbay do not reassemble the reality anymore. It's been re-done completely. Weren't we supposed to have one functional operating theater? And one almost-operating one, with the operating table half-done (Skull's operating table construction mechanics)? I believe, there was a thread about 2 OR's ages before, and the general consensus was exactly this ^^^^. That's lame. If you can provide evidence of that thread, then we will reconsider it, also taking into account that the perspective of the community may have been different "ages" before. As far as we are concerned, the community is sufficiently divided to the point where neither development will be satisfactory, and thus we are equally capable of doing both.
  14. You seem to lack a basic understanding of how corporations work. Of course they're only going to want their own brand of anything anywhere present on their facilities, particularly if they are galaxy spanning corporations with the governments of entire planets in their pockets. Regardless of whatever you may believe to be a 'basic understanding of corporations' I should find it rather difficult for NanoTrasen to exclusively field their own brand of exosuit or cyberlimb when they do not have one. Nowhere in the game does there exist a NanoTrasen brand robotic. All exosuits are generic and unbranded, lacking in any distiguishing pattern. All cyberlimbs are either unbranded or specifically the brand of another corporation. Hell, the vast majority of our cyborgs and AIs are products of other corporations or independent projects. How could you say one thing - no matter how logical it may appear to you - while every bit of evidence in the code and in the game empirically stacks against your claim? Provide me a single instance of a concrete NanoTrasen robotic brand, and I shall be impressed, but I would still not concede that NanoTrasen would forbid the presence of other brands, because it has already been proven that they currently do not. The intent of the NanoTrasen robotics lab is thus clearly not for innovation - it lacks the equipment or pedigree for that. It is not for production - it can barely field a single cyborg on a good day, much less an exosuit. Its purpose is clearly one of pure maintainence, and not to develop a NanoTrasen brand.
  15. This application displays an adept understanding of Vaurca lore, and I hope Jackboot has enough sensibility to display the "rebellious" sort of mindset in a Vaurcesian fashion. I will not be available to monitor his behaviour for the week after I accept it, however I do not believe that should delay acceptance. Any inconsistencies present in his backstory are ultimately due to the rough nature of the lore, and in fact it has reminded me to shape more accurately at least two points on the Vaurca lifestyle. This application will thusly be accepted.
  16. It should be noted that NanoTrasen's primary focus is not in exosuits and cybernetics - that's why we use generic-brand exosuits, and that's why we can print other company's or unbranded cyberlimbs. That's why the robotics lab isn't a full-on factory. NanoTrasen has other interests to attend to.
  17. Depending on feedback, I will be reaching a final decision come midweek next week.
  18. IndentLet's not beat around the bush here. Currently Vaurca are distinguished into two rough categories: Bound and Unbound. In terms of occupational restrictions, Bound are banned from security roles, and from medical and science roles (However they can be lab assistants and orderlies). They have no other restrictions. Unbound have no restrictions whatsoever, command restrictions aside. Some may find this situation satisfactory, some may find the opposite to be true. I propose a change. IndentThe novel system would follow like this: An Unbound Vaurca character would be barred from any non-intern, non-civilian job initially, allowing them only positions in civilian, or as engineering/medical/research/security interns. This status would not be inexorable: an Unbound Vaurca that proves their merit has the opportunity to promote to an elevated position with the approval of the relevant head of staff and the captain/IAA. CCIA would then be notified, and would mark this down in their read-only part of the the employment records that is apparently in the works. That would be the full extent of their involvement - cursory record-keeping to ensure the system is not being circumvented. That specific character and only that specific character would then be free to be that elevated position in subsequent rounds - any additional characters made by the same player would have to follow the same procedure. Vaurca would still be barred from command roles. IndentThis system allows for a more organic method of 'realistic' job restrictions for a species that has only been around for a bit over a year and completely defies normal occupation qualifications. It would bridge the dissonance between the lore scenario and the station scenario in a way that is not overly intrusive to either, and as a bonus it would reinforce character development, condemning the creation of 'throw-away' characters and instead rewarding Vaurca that make themselves established and cohesive station personalities. IndentBound would keep the same restrictions they have now. Bound have no capacity for learning, and thus this system would have no effect on them. IndentCurrently the system is phrased in such a fashion that it would apply to all Vaurca characters, even those who are in an elevated position before its inception. They would be demoted as a response to some PR flareup, and the system would establish everyone on an equal footing. As a result, I think now is the best time to implement such a system, while there are relatively few Vaurca white-list holders. Please comment with suggestions, questions, and concerns.
  19. Don't Chemistry have bluespace beaker or R&D can produce a bluespace container? Nowadays being 2016. As in present time.
  20. That's a neat idea, Zundy, except we don't have bluespace containers nowadays, and in fact have only known about Bluespace since 2413.

  22. This raises some questions, notably, how can an antag disable it during the course of a round? Anything mechanical can naturally be disabled in some sense by traitor gear, but is there a less kill-the-entire-bug-with-EMP way of disabling it? Didn't we have frequency jammers on oldcode? In terms of this, Vaurca being instantly murdered by EMP's is actually a bug, and the way this works has been modified in an upcoming patch. EMP's will still be roughly lethal, however. Furthermore, Vaurca surgery will finally be fixed, shortly, meaning that a neural socket can be extracted non-lethally via surgery. If frequency jammers are re-added to traitor gear, I may consider added jamming Vaurca hivenet to their list of abilities.
  23. Hivenet is roughly accessible to any crewmember if they can procure the necessary resources to construct an interception device.
  24. The wiki touches on this subject lightly, however I've not yet given it too much detailed thought at this time. Basically, although the Unbound have a short lifespan and live a strictly regimented life in terms of occupation - an Unbound's purpose in terms of work is essentially determined at birth - their sentience has the side-effect of making them complex creatures. They are designed to be versatile agents of the Hive, which is indicated by their relatively few and non invasive augments, and their advanced intelligence. With all this considered, yes the Unbound have casual conversations, and yes the Unbound enjoy socialisation. In fact, the very nature of the Hivenet makes socialisation unavoidable. Introversion in Vaurca is essentially non-existent. A brood within a Hive (Being all the Vaurca in a local area, whether that be station, city, or hive network) is a tightly knit social unit, with Unbound communicating information of all kinds between each other without concern for distance. As to what Vaurca think about or talk about all day, that all really depends on the situation they are in. Their commentary can often have a utilitarian edge to it, but I have no interest in completely stomping out any possible individualism a player might let creep into their conversation. The sentience of the Unbound compared to their numerically superior Bound servants provides for that. While Vaurca lack the longevity to develop pedigree on previous artists, they don't lack the desire or the ability to express themselves. While Vaurca don't spend much time philosophizing, they do tend to express themselves in their craftsmanship and architecture. And ultimately, in their oral tradition because, in short, Vaurca society can be seen as an advanced iteration of a highly oral culture, with the marked difference being that the oral transmit has a certain permanency to it afforded by the roughly digital nature of the Hivenet.
