  1. All ideas and concerns brought up in this thread were discussed by the map team. While community suggestions are appreciated, and community concerns will be discussed whenever they are brought up, the concerns in this thread were discussed and we determined that a second OR was more of a luxury than a necessity, and that in fact medical has done fine without a second OR for a very long time. While I personally liked your idea on an aesthetic level, mechanically speaking it was unnecessary. What the heck man? Did you consider discussing it with any of the medical players, perhaps? A deconstructed room is not good enough. Engineering will constantly rebuild it every round for a little while, then all the engineering players will get bored of the repetition, and then it'll never get built at all. One stuck away in a specialist office where not everyone can access it, is no good either. There are plenty of dual-surgeon teams who often work together in medbay, split the work between then, and RP conversations about it afterwards. You're just ruining their game. This is just dumb, don't kneecap a perfectly functional department because you think it'd be more interesting. Medical is one of the few departments that's already interesting, fairly well balanced, and doesn't generate tons of complaints for the admin team. Don't fix what isn't broken, there's plenty that IS broken for you to work on. Just give us our two ORs and leave us alone Any further concerns can still be brought up in this thread, as our decisions are not final until the map is actually released. However repetition of the same ideas by the same people will not go a long way to convincing us that a second OR is necessary, and unnecessary hostility towards our decision will only alienate us from you.
  2. After discussing it with the rest of the map team, I have come to the conclusion that two operating rooms at round-start is unnecessary. In cases of emergency there are a plethora of other more interesting options, and triage renders the necessity of a second operating room minimal at best. That said, the biologist will retain his operating room, and there will be a deconstructed operating room at round-start should the CMO requisition engineering to build a new one. (In fact a deconstructed operating room had been part of the maintenance tunnels since I first designed them, however I made it more accessible to medical personnel.)
  3. Screenshots will be updated only after major developments, such as the completion of a department as a whole.

The operating room should have a sink. If it doesn't it must have been mistakenly deleted.
  5. The biologist's operating room is currently privatized for their own use. The biologist is a part of medical bay, and so in theory in the case of emergency their OR could be used. I however dislike this scenario, and if public consensus agrees that two operating rooms is necessary for standard operation I would merely move the buologist's OR and make operating rooms accessible to both surgeons and biologists. As an experiment, I would like you to consider this situation without antagonists in mind. While ultimately I don't care for the meta-distinction between that mythical 'standard operation' and the more common 'every single round that isn't extended', this was a point raised often in the old thread.
  6. Nowhere does it say that secret is for antags, but nowhere does it say it's not. This is unimportant; the meta has evolved to make voting secret a vote of confidence for an antagonist round, and railing at this metadevelopment avails nothing. As a staunch right-wing anti-extendist, I have to agree that secret should be a mechanical vote of confidence. Voting for a specific antag mode is rubbish, and having to risk an extended is equally so. Ultimately, the concept proposed here is quite simple; if people want extended then let them vote for it. If people want a metagame-free antag round, then let them vote secret. If no one ever votes for extended, then that means no one wants to play it.
  7. As a note, I should clarify that the biologist currently has an operating room appended to their lab for purposes of organ transplants. How stocked this OR is is not definite, as the biologist role is still work in progress as far as I know. If we decide to have a second operating room the biologist's will be removed, and the biologist will have to use the operating room for their transplants. There is no reason for medical to have more than two operating tables at round start. I will be with-holding my opinion because I do not wish for anyone to think that there is design bias in this new map, however I'm sure that my opinion of some months ago is still on the okd thread.
  8. Legacy constructs. They are also aesthetically pleasing, non-space consuming, and a good reason to make a package deal with showers, sinks, and bathroom mirrors. In short, there is no compelling reason not to include toilets.

Miranda may have to appease investors, but I answer only to mapping ethics, the community, my team, and Skull. Whatever 'Miranda' has told you is just because the person who played her happened to be mistaken, or was potentially playing something up IC. I don't speak for the lore-team or whoever runs Miranda events, so I don't know. That said, what is said on this thread and more importantly the Memorandum thread is factual. If anything changes I'll be sure to inform you. The engineering 'outpost' is a sublevel facility like xenobiology, the vault, and the AI core. It is accessible directly through engineering by their lift, and in times of power-outage can be accessed through a ladder that leads into a maintenance shaft that connects most of the sublevel structures. All sublevel facilities operate in an identical fashion, although their respective lifts are located in their respective departments. All sublevel and surface level structures share the same disposals, power, and atmospheric grid with the main level, meaning that any engine activated in the sublevel can in fact power the main level, and vice versa.
  10. Genetics code is not 'broken' to my understanding, but rather disabled. It will be added onto the new map as a subdepartment of research. The matter of disabling power acquisition is interesting, but unless more was added to genetics to replace it, it would merely be no more than a content nerf.

This is a very interesting idea, but it will not be implemented. It is far to Out of Character a consideration. Ultimately, my team and I have reached the decision that the best way to incorporate both the Tesla and the Supermatter engine is to return function to the Engineering 'outpost'. The supermatter engine will be attached to main engineering because it is the most space consumptive, whereas the Tesla engine will be attached to the Engineering sublevel. The benefits of this arrangement is that either engine can be used to power the station, or both engines could be used to power the station in synchronization, as the sublevel is directly attached to the main power grid. The Singularity engine will not be returning because it no longer makes sense in this setting. Miranda Trasen does not know as much as I do in these concerns, and in this matter she is incorrect. When we began mapping it was amidst the debacle of adding a second OR. It was in this time that our team reached the decision that we would not be adding a second operating room, and would be using the NSS Aurora's medical proportions as a reference point. If you would like to see the return of the NSS Exodus' second operating room, then I would advise you create a secondary thread about the topic and attempt to garner public opinion - the first thread was to divided for us to reach a consensus. The Derelict will have the necessary items required for power generation, and it will have other items of interest. Furthermore, the derelict and surrounding z-levels will be map instances that are continuously edited and changed by the mapping team throughout the course of our existence so as to 'keep it fresh', as the kids say.
  12. Break rooms, and further departmental dormitories, are designed to be quite literally rooms for players to park their SSD in. They are 'break' rooms in perhaps a meta sense of the word. In fact, in all cases except Research thus far, break rooms as we understand them have been for the most part removed. Research's break room remains because research is by its very nature an insular department. If you want to roleplay an actual break, civilian areas have been expanded to accommodate this, and it is here that you can roleplay leisure. We do not expect it to be possible for your player to simultaneously be on call and on break - breaking is a dedicated action. Finally, if people continue to fail to follow the rules set in place concerning posting on this thread I will request forum moderators to begin moderating it, something I do not desire. I have made it clear that suggestions belong here: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2496&start=40
  13. Each of the AI's laws place priority towards those of higher rank. So unless the heads of staff are commanding the AI to damage the station or to damage itself, it has no reason to disobey a kill order or kill in defense of the heads of staff. So to answer your question, yes the laws state to specifically follow the head of staff orders. Specifically: The captain outranks all personnel, so the AI is specifically loyal to the captain above any other. If CC were to get involved that's a whole other story. I personally believe that the AI's laws have no bearing towards Central Command personnel, but the administration has a history of disagreeing with that perspective because it makes their little 'events' difficult. While in mutiny this doesn't matter, you may see CC involvement in revolution.
  14. Baycode maps have disabled telecomms scripting by removing the script editing monitor, so telecomms foolery is rather difficult unless an engineer happens to build it using a board RnD researches.
  15. Moving the feedback threads to the Personnel Database was a quick solution to what was thought to be a temporary issue; no one expected that this fad initiated by fringe elements would explode into such a contagious movement. However, explode it has, and the first page of the Personnel Database is almost wholly consisted of low-reply count Feedback Threads, typically fire-and-forget content that really only drags down the entire Database itself, cluttering it up with detritus. This is an issue further exaggerated that the Personnel Database is a goddamn IC forum anyways. Feedback Threads are wholly OoC. Thus, it is my honest opinion that feedback threads be either relegated to a different subforum that is not IC and I can safely ignore, or restricted heavily so that the forums are not spammed with them.

A lot of people are concerned about the ethics of the device, but what of its practicality? Would it just randomly patrol, letting people into secure areas willy nilly but ignoring SSDs in isolated locations? Or would it auto path to any SSD it can detect, venting the entire station as it bravely propels itself to rescue the SSD miner on the asteroid?
  17. As the Head of Personnel in question, I did not find Delta's behaviour particularly egregious. I saw a bad scary monster, I shot it, it killed me. That's the short of it. That Delta did not know there were other Heads of Staff in the bridge is questionable, because the Head of Security also shot it, but it's not really important. While Delta could have very easily killed us without venting the bridge, and perhaps shouldn't have vented the bridge, venting the bridge ultimately really is not 'atmos grief'. One of the Juggernauts killed Izemut Sc'ala'har. Whether that was Delta or Nanako I cannot say. Delta's behaviour on the shuttle was not called into question here on the complaint, but I think it bears mentioning. He wordlessly killed anyone attempting to get on the shuttle, even though there were other cultists there, which goes against his "I didn't kill anyone unless there were no cultists there to convert them". He did this even as the shuttle docked, and as it left, which some could qualify as End of Round grief.
  18. As far as I'm concerned, this thread is ten posts longer than it should be, and I have really no desire to continue it. This would be the point where the complainer or complained would request administrative arbitration. . .but that's already been given by Garnascus.
  19. Aha! So you think Garnascus has somehow failed in reprimanding me? Perhaps that'd be a more appropriate concern to raise on a staff complaint, but I don't think we need to go that far. Let me quote the exact thing I said: I've bolded the important sentence, and italicized the important word. You've misinterpreted that as desire to gank again, because you're taking it out of context. Let me rephrase it so this mis-understanding does not progress: 1: I do consider slimes an interesting antagonist method. 2: I do understand that the way I used them in this round was less than optimal for everyone involved, including myself. 3: I do believe there are ways to legitimately use slimes in a way that does not 'break the rules' but more importantly are fun for everyone involved. 4: Should I play xenobiology again as an antag, I will consider pursuing these better methods. You seem to be of the opinion that I deliberately intend to break the rules again; I assure you that is a poor opinion to nurture. I don't really consider breaking the rules to be conducive to my health. That misunderstanding cleared up, are there any further questions?
  20. Jboy, I understand your urge to cut-in here, but perhaps you're not getting the message. I'll outline this all very clearly for everyone so that this thread can be properly archived: 1: Garnascus, a server administrator, has already spoken to me. 2: He outlined his concerns, even going so far as to cite the rule you've quoted and to explain why he was of the opinion that I broke it. 3: He made a decision based on his concerns, and while I don't necessarily agree with his concerns or the decision, I understand why they were made and am willing to accept them for what they are. I'm not sure what the purpose of this thread is. While Sierra made it out to be a PSA, it seems more like a venue for everyone to repeat and mimic the message Garnascus already gave me, and that I already understand. Thus I hope you don't hold it against me if I consider this thread rather pointless.
  21. I've got a better idea than that, Jboy, and this situation has already been handled, hence my confusion why there's a complaint about it.
  22. The captain was gank, but I tried very hard to make it not so. Once I realized she was typing I got off her, but the damage was already done (Because slime damage as an adult is absurd). I also forgot slimes could actually talk until after I'd killed her. Altogether I could've handled the entire setup much better, and I've already got plans on how to do a better slimepocalypse in future.
  23. Perhaps this is better suited for a PSA than a player complaint in that case. If you're not seeking a resolution, then all I see this doing is defaming my character. It was quite the slimepocalypse, however. Very impressive from an objective standpoint, and a case in point presentation of how powerful slimes are compared to old-code. This would have never happened on old-code.
  24. Its called the bin, and it's where you belong.
  25. The disposals chute that is actually inside the prisoner's area connects to the main disposal loop. The disposals outlet you're thinking of connects to a disposal chute in the officer's watchpoint, and serves as a secure delivery chute.
