That's exactly what Hitler would say. I'm going to leave this here and ask if it was really needed? >being this much against the freedom of speech just like hitler was. Should we remove claws, take two. NO! my main point is, this is a roleplaying server. play your role. Do you seriously want any random baldie and 85 year old grandma be able to knock down a 7 foot Unathi, immersion be damned? Even in everyday extended fights, you shouldn't be able to be a human and expect to berserk your way to taking down a Unathi simply because. no, you're a dirty human, if you really must, you'll throw dust in their eyes and pull out a flash and claim that war is dishonorable and that the drive to success is what really prevailed, or some shit like that. I don't even WANT to be ABLE to take down an Unathi in a fistfight. I'm still more inclined to adding disadvantages rather then take away existing features, but! But even if we don't add disadvantages, so what? As Nick said, life isn't fair, we're acting out scenarios with realism in mind. so.fucking.what. if everyone can't be equally robust? life isn't robust only Diona are apply for diona today!
-
While i am all for realism, i will point out that Unathi and Taj are humans 2.0. There is not a single major disadvantage i can think of that makes them equal to humans. If we're doing this on "roleplaying stat differences" then everyone should have similar strengts and weaknesses but be different, like an orc and a halfling in D&D for example. Advantages and disadvanatges. I'm fine with Unathi and Taj as they are, i care very little about robustness in general, and everyone knows Diona are the bestest anyway, but if anything should be changed it should be more disadvantages for those races to balance them out. Maybe have a whole seperate discussion on cool mechanics that could be added there

you don't need one or the other, people can be free AND be criticized for it. And alright, i didn't pick up on that, i'm sorry, i started writing on page 2 and by the time everything was done the posts kept piling up. And maybe i'm also being a bit stupid here, but i just don't like the idea of critique being taken as this bad thing. We all want to make this place enjoyable, right? But i initially saw only Doombergs comment as, yes, a bit childish. i won't fall back on my words without a proper reason, i'm just kinda sorry i made you feel bad. i also hope you're not sad or anything, i'm sorry if i took it too far

Right, you made two points, one being YOU CAN'T CHANGE PEOPLE, and by extension, their characters, as you mentioned "very centerpoint of gameplay as a shrink, and using all the experience in that role as a further proof for the one argument I had to make and keep making over and over - you can't change people." And the second one is . Ok, so let's go over these, firstly, yes, people can change. This brought about Jaker's thread. I absolutely detest the idea that "people can't change". Some people strive to change, and as seen, Invy is making changes to his gameplay/characters to "improve". because some people like to improve. I'm mostly just kinda still confused if you acknowledge Daniela being a part of this lesbian group thingy. I guess you are admitting she's a part of it, and justifying it with "it's a game, we're having fun, you're not, you're in the wrong, this is a game afterall". On the other hand you're saying what Invy is saying is mean, and kinda trying to defend Dan...i think? I mean you turned defensive, but didn't say anything about Dan being a generic lesbian. No, you didn't even not defend her properly, you completely screwed your point. People come here to have fun, yes, but judging from your post YOU ARE NOT HAVING FUN. You are making playing Daniela sound like a Martyrs task. Balancing OOC and IC, while needing to pay attention to everyone and you barely even get to RP having to run around and be the active, barely characterized listener everyone needs. The only joy being a smile at the end of the day as other people go on to have fun later on in their existance on Aurora. like, shit this whole post (http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2882&start=10#p28668) makes playing Daniela seem bad, but then you go around and claim "no, i'm right, because at the end of the day i'm gonna have fun and you won't". And if you really do admit to playing Dan like that, then jesus fucking christ, there are better alternatives. Not even the ERP aspect is important, there's servers where there are literal lesbays, there is no purpose to one being on Aurora, it's not "fun characters", they're groan inducing characters that are boring. And some people want to improve. What's your goal ultimately? to make better characters? to cultivate friendships? to make interesting story arcs? or is it just surface level lesbian shenanigans? because for the latter there are much, much better alternatives. But ultimately you can just say "no, i won't change" and i won't give a shit, i don't even interact with Daniela. as for the admnistration team This just makes you sound childish to me, and as far as i can tell, no, this is valid criticism. It is not possible to make criticism that doesn't either sound like you're shaming people or condesending them (unless there is no problem to point out). please do re-phrase Invy's post into bringing out these points and not making them sound like terrible shaming. It's not possible, you'll always be pointing out problems no matter how you phrase it. Doomberg, Skull, if you two are afraid of people "weaponising criticism" then i'm sorry, but please re-read this "weaponising criticizm" Why not just argue the original criticism by Invy? IS HIS CRITICSM ACTUALLY VALID?. Invy doesn't have the power to make a withc hunt, and he sure as shit isn't gonna metahate these characters, so this paranoia is undeserving. It just comes off as the long reach of the administrations bo*** reminding people THIS ISN'T A DEMOCRACY, WE'RE THE ONLY ONES THAT CAN WITCH HUNT

Jaker's most brutally honest character feedback thread...
Johnny Mnemonic replied to Jakers457's topic in General
ok, let's do this! Haruspex Gollee Enkas Winston Carton Vira De Santos Pheobe Daniela Baranova Nebula Taivanna GOD DAMN, I'M GONNA POST THIS AND TAKE A SHORT BREAK THERE'S NO BRAKES IN WRITING OR LOVE. also, my characters; James Crimson, A Hard Measure Of Law, Hosea Reeliah, (Morgana Static, Dorothy Sublett being less important, but still would like to hear about) ((also if anyone wants to respond PM me and i'll edit in your response or something, i don't know, you can just respond to me like a normal person)) -
Binding Of Issac, try rebirth, if not original should do fine. Half Life 1 System Shock 2 Super Meat Boy if you're into that Oregon Trail
-
by order of creation Morgana Static -not played anymore due to me wanting to develop others more Femme fatale molly millions without robustness with cyberpunk cop stories and a cool fashion sense James Crimson Lonely IAA in a purple suit who talks to his implant Hosea Reeliah Hosea is a cheerfull, hyper religious, redemption seeking, 50 year old pacifist cadet/priest who walks around with a bible instead of flashes. Married to Jesus, slight alcohol problem. bad with money. cannot into technology. happy go lucky attitude Dorothy Sublett -not played anymore due to me wanting to develop others more Demented 85 year old grandma psychologist that isn't afflicted by dementia. A person with fondness for strange therapies and influencing the subconscious. Fears death. a pretty good chef. cannot run or do complicated physical stuff due to being old. Has to watch out for her sugar levels. My asshole character A Hard Measure Of Law WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A DIONA WATCHES TOO MUCH 80'S ACTION MOVIES?! Dirty Harry/Robocop/Arnold/James Bond Loose cannon that sometimes speaks only in one liners and works on flawed 80's movie logic. Shotguns don't work without one liners kind of logic.

witty reply

Something just hit me. Why not have both? Why don't we add lawyers(as a test run) /and/ we outline exactly what IAA's limitations and involvments are?
-
This originated from a thread about whitelisting IAA and making them less horrible to play. And yea, IAA /can/ do all these things, except if they're proactive then people lose their shit pretty fast, especially HoS and general security members with saying "IAA shouldn't involve themselves into security matters". Hell even Delta, a regular, stated that IAA shouldn't involve themselves in criminal matters, when that's not completely true, improperly brigged and faxing security related reports to central is still part of the job(such as crimes or performance). I personally see this as JB trying to make IAA not shit by doing something other then whitelisting them, which is perfectly fine, but i still wish they were anyway
-
oh no, now you'll have to have a justification and evidence to support brigging someone. HOW HORRIFYING. how is that remotely the same as Blueshields? not only is the original lawyer purpose still there, but it's also not gonna need much moderation as JB even said that it's totally possibl to RP a stupid lawyer. Personally, i wish IAA could do this, but they clearly cannot, i have been shat on a lot of times /from HoS's/ about "meddling in security matters". A lot of people think like Delta, in a way where "IAA are only there for civilian complaints". This is plain false, but people get really, /really/ angry regardless. So yes, i'm in full support of lawyers, but if we have lawyers, what are IAA gonna do? isn't that also their job? and if lawyers get CC access, can't they do complaints? will lawyers be an IAA alternative title? nevermind, i can't into reading no, the reality is you really can't and shouldn't and if you did you should probably feel bad about it OOC'ly. that's not even borderline being shitcurity, Brigging people on hunches without evidence is just a really dick move that shouldn't be the norm by any means. If you can't justify why someone broke the corporate regulations, then you're breaking regulations by illegal brigging anyway, no?
-
Why even have IAA around then? name one thing IAA can do that a Captain can't do better, and Captain's are around way more then IAA are! is it just so captains don't have to personally page CC all the time? because Captains do that anyway, even when IAA are around half the times. and if it's the complaints, then Incident reports do that better.
-
Whitelist Internal Affairs and more power Fucking PLEASE, it's a role that should be taken more "seriously" then other roles, at the very least because of the implants and because of the ability to screw over a round. IAA are also more trusted so it makes for a favorable chucklefuck position. Also, currently IAA is simply not worth playing. Any Head shows up and your business with that department might as well end. The only consistant thing an IAA can even remotely do is fax complaints to central, except Incident reports do that way better. Detective and security take over any suspicious activities, (like lights blowing out, for example). IAA's also are expected to never make friends, in a social RP game. I have found that the only fun thing to do is look into people's personal lives, like dating and hold parties to mitigate two opposing parties in the name of WORK EFFICIENCY. but the chances to do, and to get away with that, are close to none most rounds. Most people, especially heads who you always need, will also straight up ignore IA agents because they're lame and everyone knows this. And good luck enforcing paperwork. people just immidately ask permission from heads or security does the job for you, then bitches that IAA is encroaching on security matters. FUCK. IAA tends to be ignored by most players because they're esentially less then useless but also you can't social RP with them as well as you can with other jobs. *Security to Command* while i would usually oppose this, seeing as checking if people are rightly brigged(silently) is one of the few things to do on a boring round, the additional power would make checking this much easier without the need to physically move around Give Us a Forum Board this can just be included as a subsection of the heads forum section,no? head staff eeeenh, not sure about this one
-
can we give security police batons as weaker versions of telescopic batons and reserve those for heads? i don't think they would require much mapping, it's a pretty basic shape
-
>T(h)ree apps >flood tsk, tsk, tsk but yes, i would like to add my support to this aswell, HERE'S WHY: 1)firefighter diona seems like a fun concept. Also i'd like to ask what role he'd be fulfilling, i'm hoping for security officer personally, but i'm assuming a cadet so far? seems most logical due to lack of fire department 2) if my diona gets accepted, this character will be a nice opposite to mine, because mine likes the explosions. and that already proves this character will provide decent RP to some characters. 3)I enjoy their synthetics, especially Lemon and PARAGON. Lemon being especially a source of ~UNFUN~ good RP 4)>Also, having created two diona characters already, it would be a shame not to play any of them. I WANT TO FIND OUT WHO THE OTHER ONE IS 5)I'm selfish and want more Diona k, thx, +1
-
It's to be used(at least in my mind) when the person that made a claim/argument said everything you wished to say and there's nothing more to elaborate on, instead of just making a seperate post saying "i agree" or "+1" And currently there has been no attempts to justify something being more right or wrong based on likes, seems as if that was the case people would agree that it isn't constructive.
-
it's sure easier to like then to make a seperate comment in support of something, i'd prefer keeping it we can rename it into "I AM IN SUPPORT OF THIS" button
-
ok, but how do you explain the fact the armor onboard Aurora isn't bulletproof though? And also, i don't think that very many people would consider a gun to represent a common threat to the police, moreso to everyday people who don't walk around with armor
-
firearms on Biesel seem really out of place. I'd assume they would be more trouble then it's worth too, i'd furter assume you'd be an automatic suspect in anything firearm related and overall isolated because i can't see many people on Biesel having weapons. Maybe even seen as a criminal, like some sort of gun tabboo. I'm slowly changing my mind if you make the guns a symbol of social outcasts, something clever like that Earth, New Gibson, all the frontierlands...etc, that's where you move to have some good ol' fashioned gun fun, But on Biesel? I thought people move there to escape Earth and it's ways, not to re-create them

Sleepy Wolf, Ryfer - 07JUN2015 - Player Complaint
Johnny Mnemonic replied to a topic in Complaints Boards Archive
i don't really know what to make of this as a bystander, but i'm getting the impression this was just an overreaction. there were some parts that got out of hand a bit, but it's certainly not the worst thing i've seen. possibly the strangest part was the whole diaper thing at the start. Past that it's a bunch of robots clanking eachother. I don't think either of those two were doing "Borderline ERP". doesn't that imply that the intention was arousal? it looks more like just chucklefucking. Maybe it's just that i'm personally disensitiezed, but i chuckled at parts while reading the logs, i can see plain as day why some parts would, to some, be seen as disturbing, it's just that punishment over this feels wrong to me, especially due to the fact no one raised an objection at the time of it. -
Loow's Tajara Application
Johnny Mnemonic replied to Loow's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I still don't fully understand why Loow is applying for a catbeast, however... His character Beatrix Saylor deeply influenced me when i first came around here. Both IC and OOC. Back then i was new to the game, one of the biggest reasons i came around a bunch were Beatrix and Cammile, who i got entangled with in a story arc. As time went on, Bea took a more active role in the arc has provided me with one of those roleplaying feelings i both never got before, and one that will probably stick around for a /very/ long time in my memory. I completely believe Loow can go ahead and make a truly awesome catman, i've had nothing but good experiances with him so far -
What's exactly stopping the ERT to have a perma code red while the entire rest of the server just want the round to end? -1

~ Crescentise's Lore Person Application ~
Johnny Mnemonic replied to Crescentise's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I feel as if Crescentice would make an amazing addition to the lore team if she gets accepted. Reasons why i believe this: She has repetedly shown care about the more neglected, but what could be more interesting aspects of the lore, such as the species She fits perfectly in the whole new "no hard science liberal storytelling" thing, she's clever/imaginative enough to work with that without restricting gameplay, and she exhibited IMO great ideas so far Cres is the most approachable person ever, and i would LOVE to have someone like her handle this. And on top of that, her credentials seem good, i really can't think of absolutely any objections to this as of yet, +1
