Back when I was on the lore team, I was actually in the process of trying to do this stuff, trying to align the wacky shit of SS13 with some real world relatable science. I had a list of about 50 planetary systems and I was using SpaceEngine and reports from NASA and the ESA to detail everything about each planet. You can actually see leftovers of my efforts on the wiki, in the forms of the Altair, Sirius and Trimirti star systems still present on the quickbar thing. I was also writing lore for some scientifically viable cloning, as well as for species like Vox and changelings, but apparently my rewrites were "too radical" and "way too detailed, nobody cares about all this stuff". Oh, I'm also responsible for even giving Epsilon Eridani the time of day and actually making the planets of that system somewhat consistent, and renaming them.

It should be, at this stage, viewed with a general wariness. You'll have some people fawning all over it and wanting it to be accepted everywhere under penalty of law, and you'll many, many others who view it as unnatural, because it is. Wanting to have sex with something that isn't your own species isn't normal, and wouldn't be viewed as such, similar to how it isn't normal to want to chop your bits off and start wearing dresses. Possibly though, it'd get a lot of coverage in the media and you'd see a lot of movements for it among progressives.

We live in a society that allows transgenderism and otherkin and people who marry inanimnate objects, so it's not too much of a stretch that interspecies relationships would be viewed in the far flung future as that stuff is viewed now, since they would have been around for roughly similar time periods. It may or may not be viewed as only a step up from bestiality by the more conservative, or as the newest "frontier of sexual liberation" by the progressives. As for the medical community, you'd likely see a similar split as you would for the subject of things like transgenderism, where there is argument as to whether it is a symptom of deep seated mental illness.

I'll be putting in Aurora and SS13 referential custom events in this as well, so it won't just be the crappy stock hunger games nonsense that most people seem to stick by. If you'd like to see this happen again, how about contributing character names (with sprite screenshots or artwork, preferably) and ideas for custom arena events that happen? Preferably over PM.
