  1. Hi. Head of Security for the round in question and mod who handled this partially when you asked in ahelp. I'd like to note that later in the round, the IA went to Central Command on the RD's behalf and filed a protest. Centcom then issued an arrest warrant and the HoS was tasked with arresting the Captain. (The Captain went SSD so this wasn't done.) So when I orginially told you that this COULD and SHOULD be handled ICly, I wasn't kidding. If you had stuck around, plenty of RP would have been had with you and the RD, IA, HoS, ect. You would even of gotten to see the arrest, which likely would have been joyful! Also, to the person earlier who said "But the Captain didn't object over the RD's opinion and overstep his authority" that bit she actually did do. Although I wouldn't say they overstepped there authority anyway, because they're the Captain, but they did ignore the wishes of the RD. In the end, this is a game with some mature themes in it including murder/torture/racism. It gets dark and it happens. That doesn't mean it's against the rules always. Everywhere has it's share of bigoted or just otherwise terrible bosses. Equally, everywhere has the means to remove these people. Use them.

  3. 1. You have been staff on other servers like Paradise, Pheonix, and now recently Unbound Travels. So I wonder why you would think less than a minute was an appropriate time to wait for an ahelp when you obviously have experience on the staff end of things? I'd think you'd also already know VERY well that no-answer is not an automatic yes. 2. The wording, to me at least, looked extremely matter-of-fact. You did blow up the admin doors and you did ahelp and then not wait for an answer. Those things happened. Unless you bomb something again, this warning's wording shouldn't really matter. If you DID bomb something again, then the fact that you claimed it was a test would be cast in doubt anyway as you've already been told this is a big no-no. If you don't bomb anything again, this warning would likely go un-looked at for a very long time. Based on the above, I have to wonder why this really matters? There tone isn't actually going to affect anything, as you'll either bomb again/break some other rule, which will cast WHATEVER is said in the warning in doubt, or you won't, plenty of time will pass, and no one will care that the warning exists. Side note: I've seen the amount of experience you have on multiple other servers and I think it's really strange you didn't wait very long for an answer before blowing doors clearly marked 'Admin' during a round on a heavy RP server. You've been playing steady since 2013, cmon.

  5. ..Alright. A few questions: 1. What happens when genetics now 'discovers' things like TK? If someone is gifted them, must they switch over to that job no matter what? Do we retconn the whole 'Genetics Research' thing and make it now a utility? I don't see many geneticists liking this. 2. Are the 'Psi-Officers" loyalty implanted? Because they would need to be. Also, what purpose would they really serve? "Moving large items with TK" = A dystopian cargo technician. "Remote Viewing" = Glorified Security Camera Guy/Guy who will know where any antag is the moment they're found out.. "Sending discreet messages" = A PDA system. I'm sorry, but as different as this idea is, it really doesn't add anything new to the game except "Here are some people that now start with genetic powers....and they have an office!"

  7. Hi. Staff member that handled this first issue. Just to be clear, the matter brought up was NOT handled by staff, as it was not ahelped. What was handled is when BigJoJo ahelped the staff with his own issue and we attempted to explain things to them. Just want to make that clear.
  8. Jeanette Locklear - Engineer Go Getter Girl Wrench Wench
  9. Does a good job in the positions they play, is good with Roleplay and know's and understands our rules. Overall, I support this application based on the above. They've demonstrated they can handle the available positions well enough that I don't think it would be a mistake to let them take on some more responsibility.
  10. Alright, given that two people made some good points about how they were playing and what there intent was, I've removed OneOneThreeEight and Boltersam from the offenders in this complaint, as it seems to me that Boltersam was lost in space for the majority of the game and 1138 was simply caught in a tight spot while one or two of the other nukes did whatever they wanted.
  11. I'm logical enough to know that your entire tirade of personal insults won you zero points with anyone and did little to reinforce any facts you made. I wasn't there and the reasons I gave for doing it here are something I stand by. You make some good points for you personally. Did you ever consider that maybe without all the insults, your points alone would have garnered you a pass? No. You got angry and decided to include a personal attack, even though I never pointed you out specifically. I hope you don't understand me because that post was so vile, I would never want to be on the same level as you.
  12. 1. I made the complaint because of the sheer amount of stuff that would have to go into an ahelp. Could you imagine filling an antag screen with all that? Especially with the back and forth? What happened already happened, no reason to basically ruin any chance of fun for others after the fact. I let it end instead of having to simultaneously bwoink FOUR people, tell them all of that, and then discuss it back and forth and THEN modify there notes. It's more convenient for everyone involved. 2. It fosters discussion and leaves this open for those who participated but didn't ahelp to make there thoughts known and provide insight. 3. I don't want to see them banned. For several of them, it isn't ban worthy as it's a first offense. For others, it's likely to just end up as an antag-ban and nothing more. All of which shouldn't be decided by one person (everyone else was involved, even Doom) who is dealing with all of it PLUS numerous other ahelps that were coming in ranging from other incidents of rule violations to game mechanic questions.
  13. BYOND Key: Japak121 Player Byond Key: Saintsbury, DRUZ IM NOT DRUGZ Staff involved: Myself, Tainavaa, Doomberg Reason for complaint: Poor antagging, Gank, Powergaming Approximate Date/Time: AUGUST.25th.2015, between 2:00 - 3:00pm EST I'm writing this up due to the amount of ahelps at one time and the number of players involved all at once. Basically, the Nuke Ops came aboard and immediately went for the captain's spare ID and thermite. They then went and ordered LWAPs from cargo. After that, they bombed the AI core room. During this time they gunned down multiple security (to be expected), and shot several civilians (not to be expected) with little to no interaction at all. This essentially turned the station into a sort of warzone. I'd like to pull up a few rules the antag players SHOULD know already: -Being an antagonist does not exempt you from any server rules. -The primary goal of antags is to CONTRIBUTE TO OTHERS' ENJOYMENT. Be creative when coming up with objective, and try to do things which will be fun for others, not only for yourself. -Only resort to killing if it makes sense. Randomly killing someone because you’re a traitor will get you removed right quick. However, in certain situations, murder can serve as a tool, if none other applicable. If you’re uncertain, ask for guidance via adminhelps. -No ganking. While antags will sometimes kill, it is expected for you to provide interesting roleplay to your targets first, if your goal is assassination. Collateral damage is acceptable within reason, but this means you must use common sense, and avoid creating scenarios with a lot of potential for collateral (setting bombs in high-traffic areas, etc.) -Avoid pain. A sane, well-rounded character would not engage in actions that are overly painful, or put themselves in harm's way without consideration (e.g. going EVA without a suit, stabbing themselves repeatedly, or continue to run at someone after being shot multiple times.) Powergaming = Also know as 'playing to win'. If you're trying to complete your objectives, kill the antagonists, or 'win', at all costs and ignore RP, you may be better off somewhere else. Every single one of these was ignored. Nothing about this was creative (although I get that can be difficult), The killing was pretty random considering there was no clear objective from the antags except 'arm up and kill what moves', and there was no roleplay. When it comes to antag vs security, OF COURSE you're going to shoot first in most situations as a Nuke. We get that. But shooting doctors AT ALL is ridiculous and ganky. Before you say 'oh, what ELSE are nukes supposed to do?!' .. keep in mind there have been PLENTY of rounds that lots of people enjoyed where this DID NOT happen. Nukes still shot at people, still blew things up.. but everyone had fun.
  14. It seems to me the issue is that there are two schools of thought at work, the same two schools of thought which will ALWAYS be at work: 1. Those who use heavy RP as a safe means to conduct there RP and occasionally goof around in a relatively safe and stable environment (safe and stable being relative to the rest of the servers on the hub). 2. Those who use heavy RP as a means to actually simulate what it would be like to work on a corporate space station. The fact is that both of these schools of thought are at ends with each other and yet also happen to fit into the server's rules and guidelines. The staff are here to ensure that people who play on the server have a good time and follow the rules to ensure that other people have a good time. I see nothing here that diminishes the fun of others. I'd also like to point out that this situation could have been chalked up to any number of things, considering this IS a fantasy sci-fi world we're roleplaying in. It could be assumed there character was insanely drunk, high on powerful medications, augmented somehow, or that there genes had be messed with. There are even people living there lives in real life who could actually roll around in flames due to genetic abnormalities or simply a very high tolerance for pain. I'd like to close by saying; I think we all need to start communicating a little more with each other. If you take issue with something someone did, try talking to them directly and see if things can't be worked out. No one should jump straight to "ban he" over one very minor incident in which they believe the person ignored pain RP. The worst that should have happened was FFrances recieving a bwoink and a polite "Hey, uh.. whatcha doin? Please try and remember to Pain RP and ACT like the fire is burning. Thank you."
  15. Yeah..that thing with the air alarm might be blueprint/room connected. You could also try turning the power to the enviroment through the APC off and on, or even the whole breaker. I know I've had to toggle the APC in a room before to get it to recognize the APC and thus the APC the pipes.
  16. Awe thanks! I used Doom's DO because he gave me permission, and I wanted an actual DO on the Odin.
  17. To the most heinous Doomberg of House Admin, There have been troubling reports of Greyling restlessness and raids into House Whitelist. A few have even been spotted as far as House Shitcurity and many do not even have a single note! We are doing our absolute best to hold the line, handing out warnings and bans left and right, but we need more men! Just the other day we almost lost one of our own to a welder bomb, another to a harm baton from what we thought was an innocent cadet! Many have succumbed to the sounds of LOL from below, having barely even fired off a bwoink. We are in dire need of more men and of more rules, or we will not be able to survive the coming Grey Tide. - Faithfully checking notes, checking them twice, finding out who's naughty or nice, Mod Japak of Castle Ban
  18. BYOND Key: Japak121 Character Names: Arianna Cessa, Jeanette Locklear, Antoinette Locklear, Robert Atweeke, Janice Starsky, Saori Yoshida Species you are applying to play: Diona What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes! It's what helped me choose which race I wanted to apply for first! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Because they are naive and yet wordly. Being the newest race introduced into the galaxy, and a curious one at that, they are like children sitting at the grown-ups table at dinner. I find this fascinating and it fits my general style of roleplay very well. I also like that they trade speed in return for a robust health system and the lack of EVA gear as a necessity when going into space/breached areas. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They don't have a fully fleshed out lore system (officially) like most of the other races do. This leaves roleplaying a past for them an open book with unique opportunities to flesh out a backstory. General-mechanics wise they are slower, have access to a unique alien language, regenerate health in radiation and in light, and don't need oxygen/hardsuits. Them being living plants is pretty cool as well and about as far away from human biology as it gets, IPC's probably being the next closest. Character Name: Dawn Among Metal Fields Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs TO: Ford McClane, Duty Officer, NMSS Odin FROM: Erik Deluth, Duty Officer, NMSS Baldr SUBJECT: Special Transfer -------------------- BODY: Just a heads up, we got another transfer headed your way. Slated for the Aurora, job assignment to be determined by you all and based on the needs of the station. I'll include the usual background info and what not, with the rest of the files coming along with them on hard copy. Dawn Among Metal Fields (Of Violent Song Caught In A Sky Of Green And Blue, is a Diona, in case you hadn't already guessed. Was picked up by one of our exploration ships, the Asimov, out on the fringes. Spent some time aboard there until they had to return. By the time they got back, the Diona had already learned enough about us that the recruiters had a field day among themselves trying to get it to sign on. Turns out, it wasn't very hard. Signed on with a minimum salary contract, only one clause, 'must be assigned to a research station or vessel'. Say's it just wants to learn and help out. Can't argue with that. The usual information we'd send along isn't really as available as we'd like. This Diona claims it was born on some backwater frontier world, which we can't really confirm because information sharing isn't really the best at the moment. It doesn't really know it's age, but from what we've gathered it's got to be at least 60 years old. No idea if that's as old as it sounds. It's got basic skills in maintenance and medicine, plus it's natural affinity for Botany. We had it do the usual career finder thing we got and it's pretty good at all the unusual stuff, but nothing specific. Like, if there was a disaster, this is your guy. But on the day-to-day? Not so sure how helpful he'd be. Just an opinion though. It should arrive within the month, along with all it's records. Take care.-------------------- DTG: 15-15:45-TAU CETI STANDARD-08-2457 SIGN: Erik Deluth What do you like about this character? There curiosity and there flexibility. They will frequently pester the crew with questions about pretty much everything, which should be a lot of fun to RP. There flexibility and non-specialist nature will be good on event/damage heavy rounds, where they will be able to help out and do the most good. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7. Could always use improvement. Notes: *The main idea of this character will be that they grew up on a desolate world on the frontier as a member of a colony that mainly got by on scrapping old starship hulks. Eventually they caught a ride on an NT ship, spent a bunch of time with them, and signed on with a recruiter when the ship came back into port. *This will also be my first non-human race after all this time.
  19. I have to say, the_furry, that was very well articulated. You are correct about quite a bit, but there are a few (relatively minor) issues that just aren't that easy to address. Occasionally things like staff having varying opinions will happen because we aren't robots, but people, with all the side effects that come with that. Sometimes we're just having a bad/good day and sometimes an issue comes up that one staffer may view differently than another based on there own experiences. It happens and there is very little we could really do about it other than creating rules for every single possible situation and every variation of that situation, which isn't possible. Also, I think it's a bit unfair to assume automatically that there would be bias for whatever reason. If mirk created a space-nam' veteran with a strong military background who proceeded to be as robust as Yinzr, I wouldn't see the issue as long as it was properly RPed. I've bwoinked pretty much everyone by now at least once for one thing or another and judgeing from notes I've seen, I think everyone has. No one is perfect. We also have a rule about handling things we are involved in or have personal bias with. Admins/Mods occasionally pass on ahelps because they have an OOC issue with someone. I imagine if they ever didn't, and another staffer knew, then another staffer would address it and take over the issue. Overall, should the wording be changed? No. The player ignored fear/pain RP. There character had no logical excuse to do what they did. So the warning is stated accurately.
  20. See, the issue is you're focusing on that one aspect of this case and somehow applying it to other cases with other modifiers. This is STAMOS as a CARGO TECH who rushed TWO antags who each had different weapons. This is a specific incident. The post I made was about there character falling into all of those variables. And saying that about attempted murder as if anyone would do what he did is a bit crazy. Plenty more people would just...cry or plead for mercy or just hand over there ID to the crazy sword wielding security officer. This also goes back to "Just because others do it doesn't mean you should too" thing. This is a roleplaying game and we expect on the server a high level of roleplay. Which means your characters should be unique. IF everyone handles antags the same way, what in the hell is unique about it? You're just turning it into some kind of wierd action-adventure thing by basing your actions of those who have come before you. I understand creativity only goes so far, but everyone doing this when confronted needs to stop. I'm not saying no one can ever do it, but if you make a young guy with no military training/law enforcement training/krav magav or whatever, then it's expected you don't act like you have all of that. If you want to be like that, make them a vet. If you don't want someone who knows combat, then DON'T have them roleplay like it. I really just don't get it and if someone would like to..i don't know, explain it to me in private, I'd genuinely appreciate it. Examples of different people in the same situation: (as in if these people were a cargo tech under the exact circumstances as this) Yinzr - Has security training and a combat background: It would be understandable that they would know the movements/have the skill to take down an attacker. Locklear(Either of them) - Have no combat experience at all: They would be expected to at the very least comply, be extremely frieghtened, or attempt to flee. Isra - No combat experience but has a known temper: Would be expected to resist some, but not to use a weapon. I don't know if that helps explain where my thoughts are at, but at this point, I feel like I've explained about all I can on how I feel.
  21. 1. Well it's a poor and childish excuse. We're cracking down on this sort of thing, because it's poor RP and we get complaints about it enough that it's a major issue. You're the first to ever contest a warning about it, to my knowledge, believe it or not. 2. You were in the cargo office, disarmed the officer, ran into the cargo bay, stopped, and came BACK at the officer instead of running. 3. Not sure what you mean by "normal roles" which get guns willy nilly. In that round, they used an emag and broke into the vault to get weapons. 4. And those people are generally warned just like you were if we see them. People get a few warnings of the same type, they get a temp ban and so on untill they learn or are permanently banned. If you see them, ahelp it and we will deal with it. Funnily enough, I am willing to bet most of the people you would list HAVE been bwoinked and warned about it. Quite a few are working on not doing it and we understand that.
  22. And hold up a second. Where did Garnascus, anywhere in your screenshotted log, say he should have rested? Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't even see that.
  23. FACTS: - You were a cargotech with no military skills. - You were given a way out without violence. - You got away and came BACK into conflict. - You got an ahelp against you and a mod responded to it. - You defend yourself by saying 'they do it, so why can't I?'. Look over those facts and tell me if you really think this complaint is valid. Let the 'rest' thing go. It's not the point and is just detracting from the actual one. He obviously implied you should have handled Pain RP better and not rushed the officers. That's the whole point here. Focus please.
  24. The biggest issue I have is this: Using other players poor RP as an excuse to do so yourself. If you see it happen, ahelp it and they'll get the same warning. It's poor RP. That said, they are military/pirates/mercenaries. YOU are a cargo tech. A cargo tech, not a soldier used to get shot at/getting shot. You aren't a hand-to-hand combat specialist. You aren't a gritty urban cop or a mercenary or any of those things. Your job revolves around crates and paperwork. How the hell would you have the ability to disarm a sword wielding officer AND a detective armed with a rifle? Just because YOU are robust doesn't mean you should rambo people who ICly should be able to knock you on your ass. By the way, I was watching the entire incident unfold because there was a chance this could turn out to be some good and new antag RP from the officers. Your robusting them put a stop to that for the most part. Overall, I feel like Garnascus made a solid call here. The above proves that the call was just and fair.
  25. I think I see the misunderstanding here. This is your belief and you have every right to it, but that simply isn't how things are here. The fact is, many of us enjoy having more rules because we WANT a much more realistic experience. Also, unlike in Gmod where the worst that could happen is an admin has to delete items or revive someone, here a troll can cause an extreme issue and even the round to end with just a single bomb. Also, no one can ignore the troll here and so as admins we cannot retconn whatever the troll did. We occasionally heal parties that were affected, but the cleanup is largely left to the crew on the station and can mess up alot of what was going on. A better correlation between Gmod RP and SS13 RP might be a medium RP server, where things are a bit more relaxed and this exact incident may be overlooked/ignored by admins, I'm not sure since I don't really play medium RP.
