  1. Minor = cutting the time you need to build/deconstruct shit in half. Real minor.
  2. Cloning questions. When was cloning first invented - what are its limits - and is it limited to certain places (i.e NT research stations, military bases, etc.)?
  3. Yeah, let me just say that these examples are piss poor. They're all very, very easy to minmax with - why would an engineer not take Mr. Fixit, for example? And as a security officer, what's stopping me from taking uncreative (a trait that only effects my ability to make things I won't need) and getting a free point? In short.. the idea's great. The examples are sub-par and I think it might effect how people view the idea.
  4. Minor thing, but that was about three or so years ago on a different server, if I remember right. I like this idea. I'm a bit biased because I like Lifeweb (which essentially lets you pick a purely negative trait in character creation), but hey, who gives a shit? Should also mention Goonstation, a server that is debatably superior to any /tg/ derivative when it comes down to gameplay, has this. Traits range from being unionized and getting paid more to not being able to be cloned. Fun stuff.
  5. Humanity, fuck yeah. As for what Frances said - what exactly are the other race's disadvantages, aside from speech impediments?

    Future Slang!

Cringe - used to describe something uncool, stupid, etc. For example: "Many of the slang words in this thread are cringe."
  7. Here are the many risks to combat: dying
  8. This round, Christ. Final count was 7. In short, changeling round ended with 7 identical copies of Walter running around. The question is - was the world ready for that many Walters?

    Future Slang!

Gmyza - the most awful word you can call someone from the outer rim.
  10. Please make it so I'm not slapped with a wavier every time I try and open a firelock. It legitimately hampers me and my attempts to quickly do anything when firelocks are involved. It's cumbersome and I'm wondering why it's there? You'd think people would know that they're responsible for any bad shit that happens if they open a firelock, fuck.

    Diversity

This is the thread where I whine about racial and religious diversity among characters people play. I think it's fairly bad when I'm legitimately surprised to see an Indian character, considering there are around 1 billion of them today, in real life. Here's another thing - I rarely, if ever see a character that isn't white or east Asian. This is.. I dunno, weird? For that matter, you never really see Muslim or black characters that aren't vaguely racist in some way. Or any Jewish characters at all, period. I don't know what the point of making this thread was, but enjoy the miniature rant on racial diversity in a 2-D sprite based spaceman game.
  13. I'm like 99% sure this is the only baycode server I've played on that didn't have this. Let cyborgs androids whatever you wanna call them join after the round has started. Goodnight, and God bless.
  14. Updated to try and answer your questions, big boy.

    Monkey Rights

The monkey pens are filthy and cramped. They're also filled with alien species that I'm 99% sure your average chimp wouldn't get along with. What kind of cruel, heartless monster forces a perfectly kind chimpanzee to live in filth among a bunch of alien frogs and such? Make the pens monkey (or stok, or nearea) only. And put some fake grass in there. PETA would have a fucking field day with the Aurora.
  16. BYOND key: BotanistPower Character names: Walter Brooks How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A couple of months. Long enough to have a good understanding of what does and doesn't fly here. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: To make sure people aren't overtly shitty. To make sure that everyone has just a grand old time. Why did you come to Aurora?: BS12 wasn't fun. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: It's all about telling a story - and I think anyone who says otherwise is lying. Sometimes, it's a fairly shitty story. You're the guy that dies at the beginning and sets off the mystery. Sometimes, you're the hero, one of the supporting characters, or even the antagonist. You should try and make things interesting for others, no matter what role you're playing. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: OOCly? To keep people in their departments in line, as I said above. By keeping people in line, you can be sure that everyone can have a good time. Secondarily, I'd say it's to do all that fucking paperwork people seem to be so keen on handing out. That, and it's a Head of Staff player's duty to not be utterly shit at their department's job. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Most people say it's to set an example of good roleplay and some other shit. I agree with that. Other people say it's to make sure everyone has a great time and gets to do whatever they want. Those people are wrong. Sometimes, conflict happens. Sometimes it's set off by a Head of Staff player. Basically, a Head of Staff has to be good at roleplaying and not be shitty. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Walter Brooks Character age: 47 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Walter is fairly old (at least on the station), having been born about 47 years ago in NYC. Shortly after graduating from high school, Walter voluntarily served two years in the IDF. Soon after that, he went to college. After finishing with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Walter began his long career with NanoTrasen. After a total of 21 years working elsewhere, Walter was transferred to work on the NSS Aurora, working primarily as a warden and security officer. Personality wise, Walter tries to be friendly. Years of dealing with generally annoying people combined with a loveless marriage, however, has made him surly and quick to judge others. Quick to act during emergencies and displaying a decent level of leadership, Walter is decent head of staff material. What do you like about this character?: Pretty fun character to play. What do you dislike about this character?: I am limited to telling dad jokes as a way of breaking the ice. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Walter has been with NanoTrasen for a long time. Serving as a senior security officer and warden for so long combined with his personality, I think the next step for the character would be becoming a head of staff. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Perfectly fine for Aurora. I wouldn't say I'm one of the best roleplayers here, but I'm not one of the worst. I'm not going to rate myself highly because I'm not a egotistical deviant, so let's put it at a 5 out of 10. Extra notes: I fucking love potato salad. Like, honestly, I'd say about 1/4th of all my posts on the Lifeweb forums have been potato salad related. I have literally stopped talking to someone because they didn't like potato salad. But that's just who I am as a person, so accept it. Oh, and I've been playing SS13 on-off for around 5 or so years. I can probably handle Head of Staff.
  17. It's not top secret, for Christ's sake. Why would it be? And, as many people have said, it doesn't research much that's interesting. The most important thing, lore wise, is the plasma. The rest of R&D is practically an afterthought.

  19. Most people would not be comfortable around your disgusting cat alien. Most people would not feel all that comfortable around a seven foot tall reptile. Bottom line is, I don't think most people would feel comfortable around aliens.
