It would be far easier to configure an SMES if the unit was in kilowatts instead of watts (Polaris has this I believe).

Dammit Sierra.. I posted that almost at the exact same time x) Edit: Have this: https://gifsound.com/?gif=mk.darkserver.co.uk/dance.gif&v=mXda46z9usA

BYOND Key: Moltenkore Character name: Akela Ha'kim Item name: Akela's Family Photo Why is your character carrying said item to work? It's a family photo of her husband (Nasir Ha'kim), baby daughter (Ishka Ha'kim) and her. She would never be without it in her pocket. Item function(s): Perhaps instead of displaying an actual photo, it could just display a description. Item description: "You see a Tajara couple holding a small Tajaran kit (baby) in their arms looking very happy. On the back is written 'Nasir, Akela and Ishka' with a little gold mark that reads 'Two months'." Item appearance: Maybe the same sprite for a photo with slight alterations to distinguish the two. How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? Akela does talk about Ishka quite a lot and friends / family and coworkers do tend to bring up the subject. This would be a brilliant aid as it brings a lot more depth to Akela's character, the love for her family. I can also see moments in antag related RP that the photo could be used to bring something more personal to the table. Additional comments: Akela has existed OOCly for about a year and a bit now, this would be a great addition to her.

I do agree with most of what Nebula said, they voiced quite a few concerns I've had as well. Whether this is a joke or not it doesn't really fill me with much confidence. It's really just become a meme to bash Tajara constantly and I don't really think a loremaster should be speaking about the race in which he is loremaster of like that. Anyway. I've received the PM as well about my character Nika whom was openly sexual with humans, she didn't really hide it at all and I spoke to Hive about that over PM and were able to come to a conciseness about it. Which was fair enough in that case as I was in the wrong with the lore. With my older characters I do tend to stick to the old lore however, since Nika I've tried very hard to push my Tajara into the new lore way of thinking. Which surprisingly with one exception, was not that hard to accomplish. A thing I have noticed is the OOC type 'stalking' as one incident that occurred (not naming names), the character in question didn't do anything ICly crazy and kept rather close to the shadows. It feels like the system has become an OOC 'sniper' for characters that don't stick entirely in the direct scope of the lore, which could be abused with forged reports or OOC spite or hate. At the end of the day it's a game and I don't really want to have to look over my shoulder for ever single interaction in the fear that my character might be sent to a death-camp for saying, doing or hinting at something slightly out of bounds. That is probably my main concern with the report system as it is now. I read on Jackboots post that the PRA seems to have the authority to capture even non-PRA Tajara which in my opinion doesn't seem right as that is not how citizenship works to my knowledge. I'm not to sure why they would bother with a single rogue Tajara so many miles away from their actual planet when they have more important issues with their home world. This however, is probably due its own thread.

Added the option to decode translated text back into English (basic) and an API method to do the same. This project is slowly turning more and more advanced x) Edit: I wonder when the collisions will start occurring.. that might be funny Edit 2: No more collisions (hopefully) I added some code to deal with it. Edit 3: As posted on first post I stuck the project up on Github, https://github.com/darkrising/Basic-to-Language-Converter
-
That's confusing! For a map, here's how the easiest way of making a translator for this goes: Input in Taj language -> break up into words -> look up and pull all individual words from the database -> replace word for word -> voila, you now have translated content. This, however, relies on the dictionary being already premade. Which, right now, it's not. There's a way around that, simply generate the unknown words as they come in. If you try and create a whole dictionary at once, it will take a very long time. Edit: Collisions will probably occur, search the database first for that translation if you don't want collisions.
-
Possibly! It would probably put a lot of stress on the web server so perhaps making a more efficient 'server' to do it would be better, maybe written in Java or C++. Aww, that's lazy though True! There's not enough syllables to do it word by word though!
-
Today I decided to start saving translations to my database just to see what randomness it comes with. I know for sure there's not enough syllables in each language to make it effective. Another thing is that it saves translation by translation not word by word which makes it a hell of a lot faster but it's in no way building up a dictionary of words. It's funny because a few months ago I was working on something similar, converting English to unique random words so you could translate back and forth between the alter language. An issue I ran into was punctuation as like you said, "you" could be "juri" but "you!" could be "rrhaz" and the only real way to avoid this would be stripping out the punctuation and shoving it back in later. A problem with this is the language essentially just becomes a 'mask' of English with no real structure of its own. As for the webapp, I cheated and just used a small script that submits the form each time however, with the simple API up and running I might convert it to AJAX who knows. Edit: Just finished making it persistent so an inputted phrase will always return the same translation (if typed right).
-
I saw it in the language definitions and it amused me greatly so I stuck it in as an option
-
Unfortunately the conversion is completely random, so without some hashing or persistence there's no real way to convert it back. Game wise the message is cached after being scrambled so you can keep repeating the same text for the same conversion. Webapp wise it's random each time. I was toying with the idea of adding converted text to a database to keep it persistent however, it would take up a lot of space over time. Plus, there's no where near enough sounds in some languages to make every word unique.
-
Hello, I made a small web-app that converts typed text into alien or secondary languages. You can find a link to it here: http://mk.darkserver.co.uk/lang/index.php valky_walky2 and I were talking about the idea a few days ago and I went ahead and made the converter in PHP. The converter uses the same algorithm as the game ported by myself to PHP. (It's only a few lines anyway) Hopefully someone finds it useful for RP or whatever, I know I'll use Basic -> Siik'maas as it's nice in RP scenarios without being in-game. Edit: If anyone is interested in the code, I stuck it up on Github https://github.com/darkrising/Basic-to-Language-Converter

[Resolved] Staff Complaint - Nursie Kitty
moltenkore replied to Wolfwood88's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Common misconception, you do not have to remove a full arm to attach a hand, and you can't print only a hand. How it works is, robotics prints a full arm, and then they put the full arm on your hand and it becomes attached as a robotic hand. So, whether you want an arm or a hand, you print a robotic arm and attach to based on if you want a full arm or just a hand, no full limb amputation required. That's not entirely accurate. Robotics has to make just a hand these days. In the old code you could attached a arm to a hand but not anymore. Edit: Attaching an arm to a hand just because of code mechanics is rather dumb from an IC and RP point of view. Edit 2: Due to a PM I received, I thought I'd do some testing. If you hack off someones whole arm with an energy sword you are able to mount an entire arm to hand area and it will replace the hand (which is rather odd) however, If I hack off someone's hand with an energy sword you have to actually remove the ghost hand with a saw before mounting the arm onto the hand, which creates a new hand. Rather odd mechanics and perhaps worth an issue report later. -

I play Akela Ha'kim, hello. Medical didn't contact robotics for the replacement limb, I did and it just so happened it was a full arm that they gave me. The doctors asked if Akela was ready for surgery and as a person with robotics training herself, she knew perfectly well that the rest of her arm had to be removed for the prosthetic to be attached. She could have easily declined and asked robotics for just a hand but as the arm was already 'printed' there wasn't much point. It seems reading over this complaint that the actual point of the complaint has been missed entirely. -
Nanako asked me to make a thread to remind them to add vendor sounds. There is one already in the game, if you use a silver coin on the YouTool machine to get insulated gloves it will fire, however it would be nice if all vending machines made the sound.

[Accepted] Moltenkore's Dionaea Application
moltenkore replied to moltenkore's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
By playing a Diona I'd be bringing another of the mysterious race aboard the Exodus, it's just a creative way of saying 'I'd like to play Diona on the station'. Just their presence comes across as mysterious, at least in my interactions with them it has been. -
BYOND Key: moltenkore Character Names: Akela Ha’kim, Khalid Ar’baq, Nika Kustov, Ira To’ma, Kaida Ne’jem, Kix (RIP), Spring, Remove, AKIA, Centros, KI 20, Xenos X4, Venture Species you are applying to play: Dionaea What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: One of the first Diona I ever interacted with was Roots that Rend the Soil with my oldest character Kix. Roots has been very unique over the years and I’ve always been intrigued with the race as a whole because of them. Roots is slow, wise and strong and always prepared to give thought provoking advice in a series of tales or profound insights, sort of like the wise old tree that can be found in some fantasy worlds. Diona are by far the most mysterious race in Aurora’s lore with their origins being blurred out by countless years of existence. I would really love to be a part of that mystery and bring a hint of it aboard the Exodus. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Diona are slow, strong and wise. They view all other races and lifeforms with a curiosity that is unmatched, sort of like a great mind looking down on children. Diona are very old with a reproductive cycle that essentially could make them immortal. One individual bipedal ‘bush’ is made up of multiple nymphs with a broad intelligence and inherent capacity to learn. As more and more nymphs join together to make an even bigger structure the capacity to learn does diminish, however the power of the mind and knowledge it can hold skyrockets as seen in the theoretical singularity, where a clump of nymphs have made a structure so big, it would rival a planet in size. This super-structure could be the most intelligent being in the universe with unknown potential. Diona unlike humans do not need food to survive, only energy in whatever form it may take with the most common being photonic and other forms of electromagnetic radiation. Some Diona have also been known to harness plain old electricity much to the concern of Skrell scientists. Diona are a lot slower paced than humans, in both reactions and actions: It will take them a lot longer to respond but this certainly does not mean they are less intelligent. With this their movement speed in gravity is the slowest of all races in the game however they make up for this by being very tough and immune to pressure and temperature. Character Name: Fire that Soothes the Sky Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Curious of some strange readings a few human scientists were picking up whilst examining a section of space near Biesel. They decided to go and take a closer look with a small expedition force and a light scout craft. To their surprise they found a very badly beaten derelict which appeared to have suffered major battle damage from an unknown source with laser burns and sections of the hull covered in holes. As they approached the strange readings got more profound and they discovered some radiation emissions coming from the ship’s core. With a bit of creative thinking they managed to dock with the ancient derelict and mounted an exploratory force to try and find the cause. As they entered the engineering decks to their surprise, this part of the ship was fully powered and even had a breathable atmosphere. They ventured ever forward towards the core when they discovered the cause to the ship’s impressive revitalisation, a seven foot tall Diona gestalt armed with a full toolbelt and various pieces of salvaged atmospheric technology. It seemed to be rather timid at the start with slow strong words but quickly warmed up to humans after a few hours of discussion. The Diona was unsure how long it had been with the ship but was perfectly content to attempt a full reconstruction on its own. Impressed with this feat, the humans offered the Diona a lift back to Biesel where they would try and learn more about the curious creature. After a long discussion and many pieces of information exchanged they found out the Diona was called Fire that Soothes the Sky, a reference to the derelict scraping the atmosphere of a nearby planet when the gestalt was but a nymph. They also discovered the gestalt could probably be connected with the Venter's Satellite group, however not many details on the subject were disclosed. Open to how useful and eager to rebuild the Diona seemed, the scientists eventually managed to recruit the Diona onto their atmospheric team which eventually lead to positions on NT space stations. What do you like about this character? Fire seems to be quite a strong character with a relaxed outlook and intelligent mind. They are slow and methodical, being perfectly content to work on a project until its completion. A perfect engineer… but perhaps not the quickest. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would give myself a 7/10, I have improved my roleplaying since I’ve been playing on Aurora (a year and a half now?) and like to think I’m at least semi-competent. Notes: Hopefully the backstory is not too farfetched and I’ll be pleased to receive feedback on it.

I love Aerianna Blackthorne as a character, she is great. And I can say for sure that in my many interactions with her that the player is a great RPer and defiantly knows their medical stuff. +1 from me. -

I've RP'd a lot with Juani2400 characters, mainly Ibrahim Al-Enezi and I have seen them in an acting head role a quite a few times and I can say for sure they are a very good roleplayer and thoroughly deserve this white list. This app gets a +1 from me. -
A monkey cannot fit through a vent without severe distortion though, it takes a creature about as big as a Spiderbot or worm to fit through. On that note, I have no idea how a xenomorph does it.. bluespace is a funny thing
-
The first time I did this I did expect a little shock or something however it just turned into full harm baton mode. It seems after two years of playing I'm still not aware of all the game mechanics and I did not know this at the time. At this point during the round the other ling and I were pretty much in 'limbo' and not being moved to the brig cells at all. This still does not validate the use of vent-less rooms as your character could not predict that during the initial transport of the monkey. Again, back to the above point this was error on my part not knowing that the implant would be ejected when a ling transforms.

BYOND Key: Moltenkore Player Byond Key: CDB, I believe. (Character name Jane-Luc Price) Staff involved: None, I didn't ahelp at the time due to be irritated / salty. Reason for complaint: I was playing Khalid Ar'baq and It was a changeling round. The lings were trying to come up with a decent plan so long story short me and another ling managed to screw up and alert security whilst I was trying to assist the other ling take down a security officer. I believe the other player was new at being a ling / antag in general so they proceeded to attack the officer instead of removing his communication or PDA etc which of course alerted security. It was not very well executed at all. Anyway, the other ling and I ended up in the brig where we were both interrogated and gave different stories (which didn't help!). I knew I was heading for the brig and waited for the officers to put Khalid in a cell. Khalid being his usual 'smart ass' self when confronted with the law. This didn't happen however and the HoS, Jane-Luc Price decided to try and fit a tracking implant. Khalid (Mr ling) didn't want this to happen as it would completely ruin his inclusion into the other lings plans so instead turned into a monkey. The HoS then proceeded to flash and beat the monkey continuously with various security kit, namely the stun baton which in itself was quite excessive. The monkey was then choke held, handcuffed and pinned to a table (I accept the fact if someone randomly turned into a monkey in front of your eyes you would indeed stun and detain them but there is a limit to the force needed to do such). After a short while of "blahblahblah" (which is all you hear as a monkey these days) the HoS then proceeds to try and choke the monkey to death. After a while of transform, flash, choke, transform, flash, choke - a security locker is fetched and the monkey is stuffed and locked inside. During transit of the monkey in the locker I was trying to escape when the locker was suddenly dragged into a room without vents. The locker was then opened and the monkey flashed several times before being confined to its small space once again. How the HoS knew that the monkey could indeed fit through a vent is beyond me as any indication for the course of this action was not apparent to the HoS at all. The other lings showed no signs of having lesser form and even lesser signs of passing the knowledge of this ability onto the HoS. - In my opinion this is clearly very meta. Poor monkey Khalid was then dragged into xenobiology where it was placed in a pen never to see the light of the stars again. A common thing that proves rather irritating is the fact that security always seem to 'play to win' and never have any thought of creating interesting RP other than shutting down the antags completely. This honestly leaves a very sour taste in my mouth and I can see why other antags just stick to the shadows from the cruel hand of validhunting. It is human nature to be competitive but I do think some leeway is required as this type of round just leaves the antag player not wanting to continue being an antagonist at all. Honestly I am unsure what could be done to address the issue as people-are-people but being aware of the antag's role in the game could go a long way into making the antagonist actually wanting to RP and do something interesting other than being locked up in a room without vents. Approximate Date/Time: The round was almost finished on 1st April 2016 at 22:21 GMT (UK Time)

The supermatter can be setup correctly in under 10 minutes (5 is my record) compared with the singularity that can take 15+. People just seem to have a major issue with atmospherics viewing it as weird space magic. As for interactions, engineers when not fixing exploded armouries can walk around and be quite social. Unlike other departments, an engineer's workplace is the entire station. It is still my favourite department to play ever since I started SS13 and you'll often see Akela dashing about like a headless chicken or Khalid stumbling into medbay to chat up the psychiatrist.

This is probably technically 'Advertising another server' so delete this post if you're not happy. I've been hosting Minecraft servers since 2012, our current most popular pack is based on terrafirmacraft which makes Minecraft a lot harder. The pack is created by a friend and admin on my server http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/1-7-10-technofirma-the-original-terrafirmacraft-modpack.49502/ Server details are on that page under official server or you can visit https://www.darkserver.co.uk I personally don't play that often. The curse of server owners right?

Recently with the new Kingdom update in the Tajara lore, I noticed that their views on same gender relationships has suddenly flipped. http://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tajara&diff=3330&oldid=3302 - second paragraph. I was wondering why they suddenly went from "Homosexuality amongst Tajaran is as a majority a non-issue" to "Homosexuality amongst Tajaran is looked down on and treated as a deviancy". It is quite a major change in their views and it will probably effect quite a few Tajara players.
