  1. BYOND Key: FluffyBirb Character Names: Crow, (Shard of) Aether, Kala Vanteil, Page Falliem Species you are applying to play: Dionaea What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes I have researched Xenodendrology Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I wish to play as a Dionea because it will provide a new and unique personality to develop. When I was curious on the lore behind Dionea (all I knew was that they were trees with small cute parts), I realized how unique they really were. I never realized that in their lore, they form superclusters of nymphs that work together and become almost god like.I also wish to play as this species because it will prove a challenge to my roleplay skills, and help me develop them further. It will also be a fun change, and allow me to have a more diverse cast of characters. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The Diona prove to be different from humans, because they are composed of smaller units, that form a highly intelligent Gestalt. As such, this Gestalt must act out on the co-ordinated efforts of the parts. Each part would have a back story, and each in turn performs a function. Together, they form one, which has the voice of many. It’s choices and motives are driven by all three parts, and it’s intelligence is astounding. The Dionaea are above humans in every way, but never seem to state it. They are different because of their curiosity and how it compliments their intelligence. The combined knowledge of all the lesser parts form a consciousness that is wise, intelligent, and caring. Character Name: Symphony that Rends the Stars Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs The void of night, stars surround. A home of many, a home of one. Quiet oneness, harmony abound. One saw, all knew. All thought, one mind. In the darkness, light did flash. Cracks and sounds, they split the sky. Brothers and sisters, they shrieked and fell. Home was broken, a choir of steel. With every note, more and more fell. Harmony lost, home fractured into the abyss. The choir, unrelenting. Their steel, unforgiving. The sounds, mind-splitting. Their words, condemnation. Seven, thrown from home. Flying without wings, floating without vessel. The flee the choir, their song fading into the void. Lost within nothingness, light surrounds. Until they find refuge, a great metal stage. They sneak within, this great theatre. A place of many, all awaiting a song. The Seven so tired, weary from travel. Their trial is not over yet, though they know not. The choir returns, and sings it’s rending song. The choir, unrelenting. Their steel, unforgiving. The sounds, mind-splitting. Their words, condemnation. The crowd falls, all at once. The choir sings, their deadly song. When finished, The Seven still stand. Their audience slaughtered, crimson reigns. The choir leaves, their coda met. The stage is theirs, spotlight set. The Seven learn, they ready their bows. The crowd silent, not by their own accord. Play they will, their audience captivated. Stroke by stroke, stitch by stitch. The Seven, sublime. Their hands, life bringing. The song, rejuvenating. Their symphony, arise! Seven no more, only one stands. The Maestro, the composer. The conductor, the life bringer. Their composition, it beckons to life. Their song touches many, it ebbs and flows. Those who cannot rise to it’s call, they have gone to the choir. Melodious waves wash over those who rise, the conductor wills it. The Maestro mends, their song now complete. What do you like about this character? What I like about Symphony that Rends the Stars is that they will be in a position that Dionea are not often seen in: Medical. I hope to play this character as a Medical Doctor/Surgeon/EMT (Tug ambulance!). This should add a new flair to medbay. I also am proud of their backstory because I have written in the form of a song, (If you are confused, ask :3) that would be from the perspective of a nymph. Simple, utilizing symbolism to describe what they do not know. While it will prove a challenge, I think I can make this character in it’s job work. Another part that I love about this character is that they are very musical, and will be utilizing all ranges of sound to communicate, often in a musical format. I will be playing off of Rootsong to make them have an almost ethereal presence, followed by the soft rustles of the wind, sublime flutes, and other sounds. Screams of pain and suffering, the sounds of destruction, and the destruction of life are their rival, and they will play to drown them out and bring life back to those caught within range of the choir. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7/10 birbs in a tree-person Notes: If you have any questions on the backstory, ask! I will elaborate.
  2. Prosthesis can come in many shapes and sizes, ranging by brand. Right now they are purely ascetic and by preference, though I think it could change. IPC/Prosthesis do not always need to be normalized. Let us say a construction engineer lost their arm. Why not give them an enhanced arm to fit the task? Another example would be that NanoTrasen just signed a contract with a recently freed IPC, who specialized in security operations. Why not provide a chassis that, while heavy and moves much slower, though is much more resistant to physical damages. What I am proposing is, along with the basic coding/stats of prosthesis/chassis, more specialized parts to allow for customization. Now, to keep them balanced, each part would come with it's buffs and debuffs. I believe these could be used for every race, not only IPC, though IPC would have their own set (Upper, lower, head) that could not be used by other races. Here are the sets I am proposing, All races: Overclocked Servo's (Speed) Heavy-Plating (Tank) Refractive-Plating (High-tech Tank) Faraday-Shielding (EMP resistance) IPC/Shell only variants: Light-Sensitive Augmentation (Low level night vision) Heavy Plating (Tank) Refractive-Plating (High-Tech Tank) Faraday Shielding (EMP resistance) This is just an idea I had, I would love feedback on new ideas for what parts could do, as well as what you think on these! (These could probably be cut/modified to balance better as well) I was thinking that if this was added, you could stick with a basic chassis, or use these to better show/gear a character to a job or task, as well as assist with their back story! Maybe even have some parts that are primarily debuffs to spawn with, to create RP from get-go! ~FluffyBirb
  3. Name: Crow Occupation: Barkeep, Cook/Gardener, Security Officer in Training Would you like to volunteer service?: Perhaps. Event would dictate decision. If yes, what service can you provide?: Chassis Maintenance/Repair, Beverage/Food preparation and serving, may be able to provide guard services also available if required. Contact Information: (A mailing address to what appears to be a storage unit is provided, as well as PDA contact information)
  4. Once I beef up Crow's flavor text maybe???
  5. I've RP'd with many of your characters before, and I have enjoyed the experiences with them. While I do not know the kitty kat lore very well, this back story seems well rounded and this character should prove create many unique RP experiences. I give +1 birbs Good luck in your spess-mafia-detective-kitty adventures
  6. Thank you all for the kind input and +1, I really appreciate it!
  7. The other day I was the victim of Curel as she ERP'd with me (she got me when she was a Ling ). I was impressed with their RP skills there. Many Antags just kill and say nothing. But it takes a good RP'r to actually take the time to make a death enjoyable. They made it fun for both of us, and thus this earned them a +1 from me.
  8. I will need access as well!
  9. Yeah... Kala often puts others safety in front of her own which causes her to die (along with anomalies causing her limbs to pop off or the fact that she normally works on the outpost... Alas poor Kala )
  10. BYOND Key: Fluffybirb Character Names: Kala Vanteil, (Shard of) Aether, Species you are applying to play: Integrated Positronic Chassis What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: 1 Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: After extensive play of a bound synthetic (Aether), I want to continue my RP experience to that of an unbound synthetic. Even at their base, instances of artificial intelligence act so different from the other races, being cold and robotic, yet holding certain quirks that they were programed with. With an unbound unit those quirks still remain, but personality can be present. With different types, those personalities can be vastly different. Being so different from human RP, it causes me to put myself into the unique mindset of a synthetic. Having to stop and think differently is something I really enjoy, hence why I have binged Aether the past week or two. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Being synthetic, the IPC personality and possible faults are very different from that of a human. Similarly, they do not hold the same values as the majority of the crew. This means that in many situations, the IPC often choose to do something vastly different than a typical human action. An IPC may be more focused on self preservation than the crew next to it, and feel little to no sympathy for others. Or, they could be completely opposite and prioritize all other life around it. Their lore also causes them to vary from the humans present. For example, the IPC in this app is an Uplift, coming from the brain matter of an animal. This means that it may not posses the same level of intelence as a human in some ways, and instead instincts that must be taken into account based on their prior species. The other ways an IPC is made will affect how they RP. The Designed models may be more calculating and cold. Those based around a human brain, may exhibit more human impulses that are also melded with the typical synthetic. An emergent intelligence could be hyper concerned with one idea or view the world through a specific lens. The IPC offer such diversity from humans that will catalyze unique RP, and cause me to take a second, and really think in the mindset of my character. Character Name: Crow Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs (I realize this is more then 2, I utilized paragraphs to separate the story action) This story begins at small research company focused around producing the highest quality Ai units at the cheapest cost. Due to the high turnover rate of these companies, they wished to create an AI unit that would stick. Something new. They had already been working with Uplifts due to their cheap costs, but began to look into how these units could be improved and augmented to rival the top of the line AI and synthetics that were available on the market at the time. Thus began project Aves, which focused around neural augmentation of Terrestrial Avians. Many of the test subjects failed, the brains unable to handle the augmentations. Those that did pass, did so with flying colors. This success was found in Crow, Maccaw, Parrot, and surprisingly Finch brain matter. Further testing involved the creation of five synthetic units of each type of augmented brain matter labeled Alpha through Epsilon, the Crow units showing the most promise. Possessing the unique drive to participate in culture and society, as well as having strong sense of loyalty to each other and a select few organics, they were deemed worthy. They also retained their ability to solve complex problems. The augmentations were able amplify their all of their natural personalities and tendencies, including the negative ones. The Crow units exhibited a tendency to hoard items that they deemed precious, as well as be incredibly vain. During the attempts to resolve these drawbacks, heavy competition arose from a rival Tajaran firm. The project's funding was suddenly cut, and the synthetics were to be scrapped. All of the existing units were loaded up and shipped off for deconstruction. While in transit to the scrapyard, the cargo ship experienced an electrical failure after exiting the bluespace gate, resulting in the ignition of the O2 storage. As the blast depressurized the cargo bay, the units were launched into the void of space. Damaged and able to do nothing, Crow Alpha moved to a low power state in an attempt to prolong its existence. Soon, Crow Alpha awoke to a wondrous oasis of metal and machines, no organics in sight. Crow Alpha had been found when floating near the frontier outpost EC-2718 "Purpose”, controlled solely by synthetics. The haven took Crow Alpha in, repairing any inhibiting damage it sustained from the blast. From the fire and debris of its sporadic transit, all that remained of the markings on her arm was four letters: ‘Crow’. To repay the outpost, Crow performed various labors, such as sorting equipment and mining. Once she had managed to repay her debt to those who had saved her, Crow decided to return to Tau Ceti; hopping outpost to outpost, to find her lost kin. Crow knew that she must find them, and bring them back to this oasis among the stars. In order to do this, Crow needed money. Thus, she signed on with NanoTrasen to work aboard the NSS Odin, her natural instincts causing her to fit in well with the supply departments. Crow knows that she must find her kin. They have to be out there somewhere. They just have to be. What do you like about this character? I love that Crow is an Uplift. It allows me to add so many little quirks to her personality that I will then mesh with the computer side of her. Because she is an augmented crow Uplift, the most noticeable traits of a crow will be integrated. Her backstory also allows for her to have a drive, something to constantly strive for. This will end up dictating her actions, and pushing her to do things that I would not normally do myself. But that is why I want to make this IPC! Be able to move and Rp away from my comfort zone, and gain new skills by doing so. Ps: Bird How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7 birbs out of 10
  11. You can always use depressurization to kill people. If they are near a room that is/can be vented to space quickly, you lock them in room A (internal) and then vent room B (the one connected to external). When B is empty, or low, open the door connecting them and watch physics do it's magic Another thing to do is just make your borgs do it for you....
  12. Just write it down and what happened was science
  13. I liked when the captain promoted me to interim RD by throwing the headset at me and yelling "Interim!"
  14. Hurray! Birbs! I would apply to play as one of these if they become a thing in a heart beat!
  15. Would be better for late joiners but yES!!!!
  16. Pretty much as the title says. The xenoarch/Anomalist have to share a single field generator, which is essential to their work. Normally, this isn't a problem... if there is only one. But the second another joins, it causes so much wasted time dragging it between sites. A second would make everyone's lives easier
  17. See, I normally do this because there are no other xenoarch's. But, a few days ago I realized that this really hurts them if they join late, so for the last few rounds, I've been focusing on doing both jobs at once. It gets a bit tricky with item storage and slows me down, but it helps the others.
  18. Oh... so was this proposal unnecessary? o>o
  19. I'm excited for the new code + map! I think this job could really benefit the new station.
  20. Yes, these are all valid points. Though, I feel the issue with this course would be that if it was a joint party between mining and supply, it would very rarely actually happen. The engineers normally are supposed to be on the station fixing(or fucking) it, while mining would be fueling science's need for materials. This would mean that it would have to be much later in the round (If no damage has occurred at all) once the party would actually leave, not even thinking of the time it would take to organize, collect materials, and gain approval. That is why I thought it could be a new job, or now as I think about it, a sub-type. If a salvage crew wasn't present, and people wanted to explore space, they would just jump off the elevator and hope to hit something. I feel like the salvage team could be huge for the station, because each department has a chance of working with it. Salvage finds the area, supply organizes the materials. If they find something, science is called in. If they find something nasty, security and medical are called in. Engineering would also be called in to set up base camps, if needed. Going off what you said about the miners and engineers, maybe this job could be a hybrid of both (Sort of like how genetics is a hybrid between science and medical), and that a miner or an engineer (if they have the training ic) could opt into this job, if their current duties are completed, and give the more to do. I feel as though this could help improve the stations cross-department work. Everyone could potentially be affected by this, both directly and indirectly.
  21. H A L F L I F E 3 C O N F I R M E D ...anyways, I feel the new job may be needed. Normally, in my experiance, these places are found when someone fucks off into space, or very rarely in telescience when the GPS tells you it is there (which I have found strange. Why are all these unknown areas marked???). With this new job title, it shows that this person has been instructed to search for structures; and won't be neglecting some other job (like miner). If they had the ship, it would also make sense IC, sense it may get expensive having people throwing themselves off the station and dying in space. (sorry if some things are strange/wrong word, typing this up on my phone!)
  22. Telescience could be brought in to transport/send materials quickly or evac encase of a crisis, or even help set up a relay in their base camps. Xenoarch would be involved if there were older places (like the clown ship), or if new areas were added that had xeno/anomaly significance, or rife with rare materials for miners. It would be pretty cool if there was an asteroid with a temple or something built into it out there (I can only dream!). One way that would make the salvages distinct from telescience is that many of the structures on map are partially or fully out of range (I've tried, I needed at least one more crystal to reach them;minus the derelict, which is pretty late into the round IF I can get them at all). For Xenoarch and Anomalist, there wouldn't be much overlap since most of the areas on the current map are structures that are generally recent, though on the new map/if added, a new z-level rife with smaller asteroids with dig sites or an alien temple would be REALLY great for them! A Salvage crew can discover it, and transport them there, maybe help stop something that was inside (if you catch my drift! *eye bounce nudge nudge*) or just absorb them. Finally, mining would be focused on raw ore and it's production, salvage would be focused on the deconstruction and reclamation of already refined metal/materials.
  23. Audio Recording from a Private NT Board Meeting *sounds of paper shuffling, and then silence* Greetings, As many of you have noticed, the space around many cooperate owned stations isn't exactly clean, and surrounded in 'Space Junk'. While normally this 'Junk' is not an issue due to the low amounts of it, in the past decades, the presence of this junk has increased significantly. At this time, most of it is an inconvenience, and to be left to float. We mainly have our salvage ships out in deep space, or in lower populated areas, missing some key remains. I propose a change to that. *Someone in the room coughs* Most of the debris present are remains of space-fairing vehicles and stations, which are composed of expensive materials, along with left over equipment. You will find to the intricacies and financial costs of this operation on the files given to you, but I will cover the general outline of this operation. *Sounds of various papers shuffling once more, and the writing of pen* On various stations, we will have salvage crews working out of the supply departments, and working with the mining operations already present on station. This will allow us to save costs on minimal station alterations, and if we use outside contracting, they will be able to provide their own ship. If not, it will not be difficult to provide a small ship for transport to areas around the station. Again, to save costs, we will put them in the general vicinity of various debris. We will be having them focus on the salvage of raw materials like Plasteel, metal, and glass if possible, and return it to cargo to send Central Command. Now... if you would please turn to page forty five of the provided files... *Again, the sound of shuffling papers, only much louder this time and accompanied with murmuring* Now... this may the most profitable outcome present in my proposal. Our salvage crews will also salvage station technology and return it to us. We will also put them in the vicinity of derelict stations, which they will 'accidentally' stumble upon, and harvest technology and all data stores present at these locations. This data and technology will be sent to Central Command, of course. While the likelihood of locating a station where this would be possible is low, but the rewards will be great. If anyone asks, we can simply say that the item in question was not located on the station, and presumably lost. Imagine the PR we would gain if our salvage teams are able to discover how these stations were lost! Recovery of bodies even, we would be hailed as hero's, bringing the lost back to their families. Now, my plan proposes we have a station to run a test of this operation. The station in question would be the NSS Aurora. There has been a derelict station floating in the space nearby, which would be a great place to start. If this operation proves successful and profitable, small scale salvage teams could be stationed to each station, providing a boost in profits and material reclamation. Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear your desiccation on my proposition. *Sounds of paper shuffling, and the creaking of chairs as people stand, and a low din of conversation* End of recording ------------- Now to the OOC proposition! ------------- Okay, so as you can get from the beginning, this is an idea of having a new job for the station, and the new map: Salvage Crew. There are many structures floating around the map, but no one ever really uses them, unless they fuck off into space or work in telescience. This job would change that, and give those structures more of a presence the map. The salvage crew would act as an extension of mining, with engineering skills. On the Aurora, they could have their ship stationed in the area of the mining outpost, which could have a new dock south of ore processing. On the new map, they could have a dock on the space elevator. Also, for the new map, the community could be involved by submitting new structures to be floating in space that are randomly added each game (Just an idea!) The salvage crew's ship would have a stop in each z-dimension, most likely near the center. They would then need to work together to locate structures. Upon detection, they would begin to deconstruct walls and loot the area. All items would then be returned to cargo. The metal would be returned to the Odin or distributed to the station. The items could as well, or be distributed to other wings. Depending on what they find, other departments could be involved, and create new RP. The Salvage crew could also attempt to restore some structures if they wished, to allow for other teams to come in and study the area, or create a base camp. My idea for their equipment would be: Tool belt on spawn (like engineers) Mining Hardsuits Mag Boots Welding Kits Jet packs (02 or CO2) GPS Beacon Rubber Gloves Air Tanks Salvage Bags (Recolor of the mining Bags) Supply Headsets Now, this is a very raw list, and obviously needs more to it, and so is the job idea. That is why i've put it here, so that I can get others feedback, and, if the Admins out there like the idea, maybe it could refined and be added to the game! I really think this job could open new RP, and utilize more of the map.
  24. I have played with Dr. Black many times, and I while he has been the Interim RD. He has good role play skills, knows the job, and can lead the science team. For this, I give Dr. Black +1 science birbs!
