I'm absolutely positive its somewhere on the wiki. I saw it under some lore page and it detailed very specific ages for certain areas of colonization. If I can find it I'll post the link, but I encourage someone else to look if possible cause I'm at band practice and making this post during break x3 Edit: I swear I've seen it but I just can't find it. I know I saw it somewhere, it detailed that colonies in the outer rim of space had X life span, frontier were "born living in a hard suit" because it just sucked and things broke all the time. I know I read that somewhere and even checked Tajara lore and I didn't see it there. I dunno! I must be going crazy or mixing up lore from another setting or its hidden away somewhere I haven't re-found.

Crazytoast42's Tajaran Application
Lucychan42 replied to Lucychan42's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Heh. Trust me, I've spent the past two days just tearing through the guides for engineering, from Atmos Tech, to setting up the supermatter, to construction, and even advanced construction. Amusingly, it's as much studying as I would do for a class. My brain hurts a little but I can safely say I could do a lot of engineering stuff and understand my racial disadvantage that she'll probably be a burnt kitty if she tried to set up or amend wiring. But she'd be perfect for Atmos, Supermatter (so long as she doesn't need the mag boots), and any non-electrical projects. Perhaps she could wear a soft suit constantly to prevent her hair from getting everywhere. I assume most of the response is an IC joke anyways, but I felt like assuring engineering folk I've done my homework -
I agree with these claims, I actually thought the rampant intelligence just went away eventually. If engineering has to hunt down the machines then that just takes time away from vital tasks and usually just ends up in people understanding that the cigarette machine is angry and the nanomeds are going to pelt people with gauze. It's hilarious from an OOC standpoint to get free snacks and people getting pelted by coffee. One time, an SSD kept getting pelted by gauze and it was funny to watch, but I agree that it should be something that either passes on its own or offers more ease to repair, as engineers might not have time to hunt down the angry coffee machines.

I do agree to an extent that some people jump too quickly to ERT or escape shuttle. My own character is guilty of crying out for ERT whenever breaches occur or people are missing and/or being severely hurt. She generally feels the need for ERT the moment three or so people die in quick succession. One death from a single rogue factor is startling but not urgent. An escape shuttle is only when half the staff are dead and not only is chaos prominent, but literally most of staff have abandoned their posts due to their posts not existing anymore or the general situation being far too dangerous to perform their duties. Now. Going with these guidelines, it's also a bit smart to take into account what is usually available. Aerianna is usually on shifts with six or so security and around three (maybe two on a bad day) engineers. She hears "oh god Atmospherics and the Bar just got breached! Phillip and Pun Pun are dead!" she's like "well shit, let's clone them and have engineering patch it up and have security handle whoever was responsible if it was deliberate." In the situation you describe, Aerianna would have seen the situation as dire. Two areas are breached. No engineering or security, one head of staff, so there's no ERT coming, the problems won't be fixed unless the janitor and Xenobio pipe up that they sort of maybe know how to fix breaches and powergame engineering knowledge (or the lucky hour-late engineer shows up) and everyone forms a militia, thereby abandoning all of their departments in search of someone who is obviously dangerous, in the possession of bombs as well as likely trained in combat. IC? It's entirely reasonable to decide "yeah fuck this, more people are going to die because we have nobody that's qualified let alone even trained to handle the fact that someone is blowing up the station." Sometimes ERT is quick on the trigger and called a bit early. I personally haven't seen an escape shuttle come too early. And in this scenario, I feel it's perfectly reasonable to call an evac shuttle and just get everyone off safely before more severe damage comes to the station and its personnel. If there's one head of staff, it isn't likely he's going to hand off his spare to someone he trusts to call an ERT that might not even come on time, let alone be able to fix their problems before more happen. ERTs rarely come in <10 minutes, so it was a safer choice to just evac and be done with the shift before anyone else was hurt on a station with: no power, no engineers, no security, a rogue element bombing the station, and no personnel capable of tracking the rogue element without abandoning their already understaffed departments. As well, checking the Atmos console to figure out if the breaches were contained might even be using knowledge the characters don't have. How would they know what to look for to find if the breach was contained? Should the number be gradually dropping? What range should it be in, is it too low or is it normal, how quickly does it normally drop, if at all, and what's a worrying rate of pressure loss? Not only may people not even know that OOC if they aren't familiar with Atmos, but their characters may be nowhere close to bearing that knowledge. And before you say (if you would) to load up the wiki and check, then that's cheating and essentially powergaming. IC I doubt Atmos is really as simple as searching up a wiki and doing three things. People spend years and years getting certified ICly to know pressures, gas composition, ideal station atmosphere composition, distribution of said atmosphere and maintaining its pressure, et cet era. Quite simply, they weren't qualified to manage or save the situation they found themselves in, so they made an IC decision to leave with their lives instead of trying to cover the empty departments they were nowhere near qualified to handle. From my understanding, you're suggesting that not calling ERT due to the lack of ghosts would have been meta gaming, and that IC ERT would have arrived. I refute that with the fact that your solutions ask people to break character in different ways for the sole purpose of making the round and roleplay last longer. And making the round last longer on an essentially lost station isn't a decision that would be made IC. When someone is blowing crap up and you have no means to stop them, you're not gonna wait, hunker down, and hope for an engineer and security. You're just gonna leave with your ass still firmly attached to your lower body.

Complaint - Delta/OneOneThreeEight
Lucychan42 replied to CampinKiller's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I would like to put in my own point that I was among those slaughtered in the escape shuttle (this is assuming I was not the only one). To explain my contribution to this complaint, yes. Both constructs immediately slaughtered me with no warning or interaction the moment I boarded the escape shuttle (that they had delayed with what I recall to have required one person, as stated by the admin announcement) and the cultists involved joined in. It was an immediate gank from what definitions of the word I've observed, and if escape shuttle killing is considered grief, then the cultists involved in my death and the constructs are guilty of it. Edit: Severely trimmed down my post to get straight to the point. I had detailed most of the round and my experiences, but it was excessive for this matter. -
BYOND Key: Crazytoast42 Character Names: Aerianna Blackthorne Species you are applying to play: Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Ivory/Wheat Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yep~ http://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tajara Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: For starters, I'm quite interested in playing a race other than a human. I'm interested in just the raw fact and possibility that the experience will be different on some level simply from the fact of having both a different native language as well as various racial traits, stereotypes, and behaviors. From my understanding, the Tajara are seen as untrusted by many due to their history with warfare and terrorism. I'd be interested in having certain characters be untrustworthy or even passively afraid of my character. But not just for the racism or the racial differences. I feel it would be an entirely different history to get into. I've observed the Tajara and they all have their own quirks and interests and it's interesting to see how each different one interacts on a day to day basis. I feel it would be fun to contribute positively to this and have another factor and example of how Tajarans are. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They speak their own language, Siik'Maas, they have a unique anatomy that has pros and cons, including claws for unarmed attacks, the inability to wear hard suits not specially tailored to their anatomy as well as shoes and gloves at all, better sight in darkness, resistance to cold but vulnerable to heat, and they're also penalized to not be able to take a position of captain. They all speak in third person, as well, and generally will only speak in first person with someone they deeply trust, such as a best friend or lover. Their culture is one of a fierce loyalty to people they respect or grow close to. Friendships are strong bonds that are seldom broken unless in dire situations, and their hardships against the nobility of their world makes them gritty and able to rise against oppression that would otherwise tear down on them. Character Name: Ta'Elaru Rosaria Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Ta'Elaru was her birthname, sired by Ja'kara and Masse'na on her home world of Adhomai. While there are those among her species who believe her upbringing to be unfortunate, she wholesomely is thankful to have been born under the rule of the People's Republic. She believed in it as the new hope for her race and the persistent growth of her homeworld. Most of her life was spent training her skills in the pursuit of engineering certification and technologies. She began at an early age of sixteen to begin delving into the trade of engineering and machinery. She started as an apprentice for an engineer, slowly working her way though the field and delving into formal studies of machinery and technology, working as a technician and dreaming of moving all the way to station mechanics, not finding any desire or love for civil engineering. As the years went by, she grew more worried about the state of her homeworld. The unrest, the rebellions, the civil war, it wouldn't be any place for her to be able to grow, to flourish. That only reinforced her desire to live among the stars, knowing that her life would be better had jumping from station to station, job to job until she found her calling. Once she reached the age of twenty, she began internships with Nanotrasen, seeking to be employed among their ranks as a station engineer. Her work was quick, she learned fast on the job, and her agile and small nature was useful for a multitude of engineering scenarios. Among those she worked with, she earned various nicknames, her favorite being "Ferret". This bizarre friendly racism soon becoming a tune she enjoyed as she worked among so many other races and personalities. No longer was she sheltered in her world of fear or strict manners; now, she was among a plethora of personalities and reactions that blended together in a wonderful, interesting way. Soon, after years of jumping along and finding new jobs, her qualifications met with seven years of aptitude in the field. She certainly performed as if she had, as well, shaving off a good two years of work and dedication that would have been devoted if she had not otherwise passed and succeeded as she had done. She was no prodigy or expert, but she met expectations and provided her knowledge in a way that was universally accepted as a benefit to her employers and coworkers. Soon, with her citizenship at Nanotrasen secured, her work credentials, and general approval, she set off again, seeking a permanent position at a station, eager to please even more exciting faces and to make her mark. Thoughts of home drifted through her mind, but never once was she deterred from her goal, loyal, perhaps even stubborn, but also talented. What do you like about this character? I'm most excited for being able to play a character that's so vastly unique from Aerianna that I'll truly be able to delve into a new personality. If I had just made another medic, it would've likely blended into the same routines. With Ta'Elaru, I can distance myself from regularity and routine and create a different pattern for me to follow, with discovering new things to do and performing new tasks, as well as playing out a character who responds not only to new situations, but in new ways. As well, I'm most excited to play her to try and establish a new sort of general concept. Aerianna can get emotional quickly and reacts to situations in a very persistent way, not straying once she's concluded she has a solution to her distress. What I'm excited for with Ta'Elaru is to go a different route. Perhaps her persistence will be similar so that she may tend to her duties, but perhaps she will listen to others or be more prone to escaping or avoiding a situation outright rather than amending it. I'm excited for a chance to do something, well, new~ How would you rate your role-playing ability? Rather high. I've been roleplaying for the better part of a decade now over a multitude of mediums and I have experience with playing a variety of characters in a variety of settings. With this new character, I'm hoping and desiring that I can devote a time and love into her that will allow her to blossom into another unique personality. An issue I've always had is a character not being strong enough or desirable enough to make them unique, and I always drift to my main loves. With Ta'Elaru, I hope to create another break from that pattern.

You have my support, but I think your backstory is really short and will need some modification as well as elaboration before the staff themselves will be ready to approve of the application. It looks good so far, though~

Arvak Morekborn's Unathi application
Lucychan42 replied to Arvak Morekborn's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'm Crazytoast, a new player. I joined on Thursday (I think, it was not earlier than Tuesday), and I've met a variety of players over the past few days. It's been an exciting, enthralling experience to be with all of you and to meet all of these people and find out all of these exciting things and bla bla bla I'm really having fun. to the point, I'm saying all of this because Arvak is one of the people to make a powerful impression upon me. Ike709 was my mentor and guided me with his shenanigans and fun, the player of Ivensky (sp?) also drove a wonderful impression upon me with an officer I recognize each and every time. And countless medical staff, Nanako, Miller, et cet era, so many wonderful people I've met. But Anna, Arvak's character.. she stuck with me. She left a deep impression within me moreso than any other character. She came to the Medbay, asking to speak to a psychiatrist. Miller had left, so Aerianna offered to speak with her, and they opened up the office, closed the windows, and chatted. For around twenty minutes about the events that had happened that shift. It was a beautiful discussion, something that opened up Aerianna's emotions and guided Anna's. It was one that provoked a deep emotional response within me as a player. Aerianna has been through so much, reacting to the world around her and saving lives... but this was the first experience to leave me feeling with a warm, powerful feeling in my heart. I sat there, even messaged them to thank Arvak for the roleplay. I have confidence in Arvak's ability to roleplay this character properly. Someone with a drive, a goal to prove themselves.. it's a valuable, impressionable thing to observe them struggle and move forward in the world. Both the player and the character concept have my vouch for it~ *Gently steps off soap box and skitters away.*
