Giving IPC access to /all regular languages, read as: Gutter, Tradeband, Sol Common, Tau Ceti Basic, / while also giving them acces to /ONE Alien language./

Sign language is 40% facial expressions. IPC's don't have a face, meaning they couldn't really do it well. If they had dexterity with their fingers, they could theoretically do the rest - they'd probably be pretty good at it since they could retain all the information for the signs, their context, facial expressions, and sentence structure.

Gameplay wise, I think it's a bit overpowered. Maybe let them have one extra language, not all of them.

I think IPCs should have binary as a language.

IPC beeps, "01001101 01101101 01101000 00100000 01100010 01100001 01100010 01111001 00100000 01110011 01101000 01101111 01110110 01100101 00100000 01101001 01110100 00100000 01101001 01101110 00100000 01101101 01111001 00100000 01110011 01101111 01100011 01101011 01100101 01110100 00101110 00100000 01011001 01100101 01110011 00100000 01101100 01101001 01101011 01100101 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100001 01110100 00101110"

(That's actual binary. But it doesn't have to be real binary because actual binary is long for short sentences.) Then I realized it wouldn't make sense unless they were just stating 0s and 1s all day for a long time. Otherwise beeps in the form of morse would kiiiinda work.

or

IPC beeps, "Buzzz buzz beep boop."

or

IPC beeps.

IPC 2 boops.

IPC ping/buzz. (for shouting)

IPC 2 buzzes quietly (for whispering)

Why not just give them access to the binary channel? They're synthetics.

That's mainly a gameplay thing in my mind. It'd give traitor IPCs an astounding advantage Icly.

They already have a staggering advantage on other species.

And a staggering vulnerability to Ion rifles and EMPs...

I dunno about a language for IPCs. I mean, Unathi and the other guys have their own language because they grew up far away from these other races. IPCs were literally made by humans. I don't see why anyone would take these machines, give them free thought and sentience, and give them their own private "tongue" that humans could not understand. Your typical paranoid human wouldn't really be too thrilled of that design.

I would imagine IPCs have their own language due to their own "bluetooth" of communicating with other IPCs.

This would be a very useful feature of organizing work with other IPCs. People milk the paranoia and robot fear thing waaaay too much. It's the year 2500+ if people can fuck lizards without a second thought I'm sure humanity has progressed enough to consider transhumanism.

A, borgs can already understand all languages, there wouldn't be a big power shift if IPCs could do the same.

B, having them talk in binary or some form of buzzing to their fellow IPCs would be alright in my eyes. Regarding what Cassie said, it seems like a lot of people are really trying to justify their points with the main focus of "THEY'RE BOTS".

I'm against IPCs with binary: it's a secure channel not accessible to employees who are unbound by the synthetic laws of the corporation, and information there can be used maliciously. Ergo, NT would want to keep you off that network.

Also, the reason why I'm effectively suggesting trying to mess around with the present system, instead of introducing another language, is that right now, every race has its own language. It's become a mold, and I'm trying to see if we can maybe break that mold a little.

Also, read carefully: they'd have all human languages, minus sign language, plus one alien language of their free pick. It's about half-way on par with what the cyborgs have.

As an IPC player, I agree with all of this.

minus sign language

Except for this part. Why would IPCs not be able to sign?

I stated earlier that sign language is 40% facial expression. Your eyebrows can change the meaning of a sentence entirely. Furrowed brows, for example, signify a "who what when" question, where upward eyebrows indicate it's a "yes/no?" question.

"

Without a face, it's just stating that someone likes pizza.

Not all sign languages work the same way. Tau Ceti sign, apparently, does not require the use of any facial expressions, considering that you can use it just fine while wearing items that obscure your face (gas mask, hardsuit helmet, etc.). Besides, they have a screen for a face - they could display any necessary information there.

On the subject of sign language, if you're looking to "break the mold" I suggest letting IPCs be able to understand sign language, but have their words come out wrong and garbled when they try to communicate in it as they presumably attempt to mimic the motions of a Three dimensional face with a simulated two dimensional replica. It'd be pleasantly uncanny in my opinion.

Assuming that IPCs want to communicate with someone deaf without the use of paper, you could already Me* emote typing out what you're trying to say on your monitor.

As for the rest, I suggest giving them the cyborg treatment and allowing them to understand all language but leave them unable to talk in magical cat language because that needs rain dances to work or something.
