NerdyVampire Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 The only thing about xenobotany I actually don't like right now is how long it takes to extract chemicals from large quantities of produce. When dealing with low chemical yield plants, like the glowshroom, the slots in the grinder makes you need 6 fills&grinds to fill the beaker. When dealing with mixed chemical plants like death berry, you'll want your beaker to be bigger to hold enough of a single chemical to make it into a 60 unit flask. A bigger beaker can be obtained through research I think, but xenobotanists don't have access to research and its an expensive low priority thing for researchers. Suggestions 1. Let us start with a bigger beaker 2. Make the grinder either hold more, (possibly by making it state the number of a given produce instead of listing each it contains -or- overhaul the grinder in Xenobotany and give us an advanced upgradable thing. That's my thoughts.

Fortelian Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 You have to research a bigger beaker? Is it bluespace or something?
Pratepresidenten Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 You can get 120u beakers from any autolathe, and 300u beakers can be researched in R&D.
NerdyVampire Posted August 27, 2019 Author Posted August 27, 2019 Yeah we start with the 120, I experienced the glory of the bluespace beaker in the last round. It's fine that we have to wait for that from R&D, but the grinder itself isn't upgradable in terms of how much it can hold for grinding. Is there any way to fix that? Maybe make it take matter bins?
Conspiir Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 The kitchen starts with large beakers (three, one in each of the grinders), the garden starts with one in their grinder, and, to my knowledge, Xenobotany starts with one in their grinder as well and actually has a direct line to people that can print off extra with no trouble. A grinder can hold ten items for grinding at a time. I've not really run into an issue with that, even grinding a lot of things--everything gets done at different times, so I just make the trips while waiting for the next batch to grow. Granted, it wouldn't be game-breaking to be able to grind up fifteen instead of ten things, but I've not seen it used to capacity very much. Maybe others have?

I don't think it's even close to an issue for any other department, xenobotany is the only one that makes large scale production (at least I often do). Hydro and kitchen usually have <10 products at a time, I usually set up 8 plants of a type, each yielding about 5 produce, so I look at 40 products a batch. I mean it's not a real problem, it's just a QoL being able to upgrade or having it improved a bit.
Conspiir Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Might be worth looking into adding a second grinder, honestly. An entire second set-up maybe. There can be two Xenobotanists, can't there? That would adjust this topic slightly into more of a mapping thing.
NerdyVampire Posted August 28, 2019 Author Posted August 28, 2019 On that note it'd be fine to move the ChemMaster down in range of the grinder. It's the first thing I move anyway so I can save the trip
