Dark1Star
BYOND Key: Dark1Star Character Names: Jake Jarvis, John Normandy Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Navy Blue Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Well, for a long time I’ve been just playing humans, and I thought it would be cool to play as a different species, (that’s actually organic) and I’ve been roleplaying with a bunch of Skrell characters now and I think they are actually cooler than I expected, before I didn’t really interact with Skrell characters but now I think they are pretty neat! Also few of my friends have told me to apply, they talked me into it, and I thought I’d give it a shot! Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Role-playing as a Skrell, is quite different than roleplaying as a human for obvious reasons, their undying hatred of glorsh-omega, which affects how they view Synthetics, they are old and wise (usually) and they also have a special thing called Srom, which if I get this whitelist, I can’t wait to test it out. With the current Skrell arc currently happening, if this gets accepted it’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out. Character Name: Xiquilixqip Sherup’Gell Please provide a short backstory for this character: Xiq is a 216 year old Skrell, being a navy blue, he was born in the Homeworld depths of the sea, in 2245. Xiq being born in the Supernova Era, he watched as the Federation helped grow the Skrell back to their old advanced civilization like they once were. Believing the Federation to be the saviors of the Skrell, his support for them is quite high, and only up until recently has his thoughts on the Federation dwindled a tad. Xiq grew up around technology and the advancement of it, as did most Skrell, Xiq had an interest of how it worked, how it ticked, what caused it to do what it did? It enabled Xiq at a young age to become much of a tinkerer, no matter how good something was, he always felt that whatever he had or created, he could improve it, over and over and over. Almost an unhealthy habit, no matter how good or how complex a device was. During a young age, Xiq wasn't cared for as much as one would hope, leaving the bond to not be as strong as it is on other Skrell, it is suspected that this is the reason Xiq cannot say his name. Xiq went to the Aloise University of Medical Sciences, learning basic science and chemistry, making a close friend along the way. After he graduated Aliois Uni, he successfully attempted to get accepted to The Grand University, along with his friend. His time there he learnt more advanced science, and chemistry. Slowly working towards his goal of becoming a famous scientist, shortly after his friend and him grew apart, leaving Xiq alone again, they lost contact with each other shortly after. Xiq has been working in the Federation as a low-level scientist, working on basic science and advancements, if you could call it that. He felt that his skills and knowledge were not being used to their full extent, upon hearing about the Aurora he decided to leave the Federation space and work for NanoTrasen on the NSS Aurora, deciding he wanted to become a Research Director aboard the Aurora after some time aboard the station. Xiq’s parents being from the Weeping Era, always told and taught Xiq that no matter who they are, you cannot trust Synthetics, they can turn on you at any second, so Xiq has always had a distrust, and if not, a natural dislike to all things Synthetic. As he grew up through the Supernova Era, his parents were not as supportive as one would hope, one might think that a child from parents who were from the Weeping Era would view their child as a beacon of hope, however his parents mostly cared for themselves, and always pushed their views of synthetics on to him, which in turn caused Xiq to live an almost sheltered life, tinkering with items and objects. Through going to school, he learned that he could become greater at what he does now, the ability to become a scientist, and help shape the galaxy in to what it is today, mostly doing his work in the Jargon Federation, he decided he wanted to become something better and head to the Aurora he has heard so much about, getting a job working for NanoTrasen is one step closer to his goal. What do you like about this character? Well, this is my first whitelist application in… a long while, and I have been convinced by friends of mine, and ICly by watching how Skrell’s RP, so I wanted to make a Skrell Application. I like this character because it’s something unique I have not done before, and this character will be my road to command pretty much, I can’t really say what I like about this character as I have yet to even play him, but if I was to pick a few things that I like about him, it would be his love for tinkering with things, and all my characters I have made don’t mind, or like Synthetics, playing a character who has a natural distrust towards them, or even a hatred will be interesting to play. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I think it’s about a 6-7 now, I have definitely improved since my last application, and I have had people tell me, my self that I am a decent role-player. Including people who used to dislike me from when I first started playing Aurora. Notes: This application is probably really bad, but I put my best effort into it, I have even read the lore in detail as much as I could to put my best effort in to this, even asking for tips from other Skrell players. I’ve never been good at coming up with backstories/characters but I have had a few people look at this application before posting and they said it’s not bad but it’s okay. If there’s anything I can do to improve it, please leave a comment. Edited December 10, 2019 by Resilynn Link to comment
simfantic
Dark1Star has shown the server how truly valued their character is as a person (a good thing here), and other characters are always happy to see them. I have roleplayed with them to some extent, however not a lot but from what I have seen, he really does come across as someone whos willing to go the extra mile to ensure that a round is interesting. A big +1 from me. Link to comment
GreenBoi
Pretty good all around, the only thing I'd be hesitant of is that you didn't mention anything about Skrellian Humor or how much they cherish their children. However, considering you talked to actual Skrell whitelistees and have shown actual interest in the race besides Warbling, I don't see why you wouldn't be qualified. I don't give +1's to anyone anymore, but GLORY TO THE FEDERATION Link to comment

There's a reason why I rarely make new characters hahaha Link to comment
Aptare
Grammatically and just in the flow of the application, I have quite a few critiques, but we are not here to judge that (as long as it isn’t horrendous). From my experience in the relay and in seeing you roleplay in a few rounds, you seem to have a firm grasp on your character, and whilst this application doesn’t necessarily show a in-depth understanding of Skrellian culture and history, as long as you say that you’ve read it and understand it, I’m fine with giving this application a +1. Yeah, I tried making a decent backstory, and the flow of it is pretty bad, but yes, I know it's quite bad and I did try to improve it as much as I could. Link to comment
Resilynn
Can you give me an example of how you might RP if your character were surprised? Also, you mention Xiq's loyalty to the Federation is strong, but not as strong as it was before. What does this mean for current events, so far as you can predict, with your character? If Xiq was suprised by something, say if one of his experiemtns succeeded, he would probably talk in Nral'Malic for the duration of his suprise, perhaps chirruping heavily. However, if he was suprised by something bad, perhaps seeing someone shot or killed, he would most likely chirrup loudly once, and then go quiet while retreating from the area, perhaps crying afterwards, as death is uncommon for him, he is no combat expert by any means. His loyalty to the Federation if classed on a scale of 10, would be around a 6 to 7 out of 10. Before his loyalty used to be higher, however due to recent events, the archives, talks amongst the ExtraNet, the Federation to him, are perhaps not as golden as he once thought? However these thoughts are usually quelled, more like lingering thoughts, "what if?" so to speak. Edited December 9, 2019 by Dark1Star Link to comment
Xevanthraxis
+1 from me based on your roleplaying ability when you get into a character, if you can play a Skrell on equal levels of playing your current characters, I have full faith you can pull it off Link to comment
HighAdmiral
+1 Jake Jarvis is one of the best roleplayers on the station imo, he'll do great with any whitelist. Link to comment
Dark1Star
So, I had help from a friend of mine in re-structureing the backstory to make it eaiser to read and make more sense. Hope you like it. Quote Xiq, a deep blue skrell matching the depths of which he was born almost two-hundred and twenty years ago. Xiq had always trusted the Federation with fierce loyalty as they rebuilt from the ashes of Glorsh, however recent events appear to have dwindled his loyalty towards the Federation. Xiq was always fascinated with technology, he had so many questions and so he dived into it at a young age. He tinkered and he discovered, however Xiq was quite the perfectionist, and often he’d sit late into the Homeworld’s night, working on various devices until they were acceptable to him. His passion for technology often drove other Skrell away, leaving him rather isolated from the others. He never did form a bond with his Skrell brethren. Although Xiq had been born after the Incident, and in the rebuilding of the Federation, he was scarred by the damage done by the Synthetic Tyrant, Glorsh. His Qu’Draa had survived just barely and constantly reminded him so. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months and months into years, he was reminded constantly that a Synthetic is a Skrell’s worst enemy and design. In Xiq’s juvenile years he attended Aliose’s prestigious Univesity of Medical Sciences, learning the basics in scientific research and Chemistry, but along the way he managed to find a Qu'Nioh. His time at AUMS taught him many introductory skills, allowing him to further increase his education at the Gliutip’lyaz University, along with his Qu’Nioh. The Gliutip’lyaz University allowed him to further his interest within scientific research and Chemistry, slowly he began to work to become one of the many idols within the Federation. During this time, he and his Qu’Nioh grew apart, leaving Xiq alone in his studies. Following his studied, Xiq had become a rather unknown scientist for the Federation, working on rather basic advancements in the technological field. He felt his potential was rather wasted, and he was not using his skills to the full extent to which he had studied for so long for. The decades spent within the lab left him yearning to explore the Stars like the others, and he did so. Xiq travelled far and wide in order to find a place he could use his skills to his full potential, finally finding the free republic of Biesel. His employment searches were successful, finding a slot aboard the NSS Aurora working within their Science Department to discover the secrets of the Galaxy. Xiq didn’t rest there, and he was determined that one day he would be a Director after gaining enough credibility aboard the Station. Link to comment
MattAtlas
What exactly did the Aurora offer to your character that the Federation didn't? You talk about how he's a super hard loyalist and that he wants to improve technology - but why did he choose to do it outside of the Federation? How are his skills being wasted in the Federation? Surely there was an impulse to make him leave. People that are such hardliners don't leave that easily, do they? Link to comment

Not everyone can make it big inside the Federation, Xiq was unfortunately one of the ones that didn't. However after hearing about the Aurora through news sites and general talks amongst the Federation, he feels that it might be eaiser to make it big on the Aurora first by becoming a director, perhaps after a few years working on the Aurora he could come back to the Federation with some achomplishments. KingOfThePing
You were absolutely terrible when you started playing and I didn't like you very much, but this changed a lot and you are much, much, much better now, not only ICly. From that perspective I can't say you wouldn't deserve a whitelist, you also showed great interest in Skrells lately (IC and OOC) and I think you would play a very good Skrell. The backstory may not be the most creative or extensive BUT it shows that you invested time into frog lore and you have an understanding of history and culture, even twisting it around and making it actually interesting. For once, I don't have any questions and I support this application. Link to comment

Resilynn
Solid responses, and I've appreciated your involvement in the ongoing lore developments- I can tell you're invested. My only concern is how you will RP skrell as less expressive (to humans), I think it will be a challenge for you, but I am excited to see how you tackle that challenge. +1 from me. Which is an accept, so. Link to comment
