Halo

This is my favorite series of media of all time. I adore the story behind it, and I love the games.

Anyone else played any of the games, at least? I've played every single game that's come out.

I played Halo 1 and liked it somewhat. I also played a bit of Halo: Reach firefight on my younger cousin's Xbox when I visited his family last year. I read the Fall of Reach novel at some point. I also have a heavily modded version of Halo Custom Edition, which is basically Halo 1 but free, courtesy of http://hce.halomaps.org/. H:CE has a surprisingly large amount of people on the multiplayer servers.

Own all of them, loved the majority, Reach was meh, 4 was downright awful. Fun fact: Alan Tudyk, Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin do the voiceovers for Buck, Mickey and Dutch in ODST.

Four is a step in a different direction for the series, that I'm actually interested to see it go too.

I didn't like the multiplayer of four as much as I had the previous.

I don't really multiplayer, apart from Coop.

Though I do know a guy who got to Inheritor rank in Reach only playing the campaign. No online games.

I never wanted to play Halo, but a while back Gold members got Halo 3 for free. Never beat it, but bought Reach soon after. Thought the characters really cool, and beat the game. Bought Halo 4 when it went on sale, along with Spartan Assault.

Didn't care for the last two very much. I thought Reach was pretty cool.

I liked Reach a lot more than other people seem to.

4 was straight garbo, though. It would have maybe been redeemable if literally all the new Spartans weren't god awful.

Multiplayer was hilariously bad/easy, even more get sniper -> win game than Halo 2, and I actually thought Halo 2 was the best one, lmao.

I had never touched Reach till around my birthday last year, when I visited family who owned a 360/xbox and a handful of older games. Firefight's fun as fuck in coop for killing time, but dear lord were the characters uninteresting and the Campaign uneventful (aside from the few missions where you're given aircraft). Which is a shame because the game itself has aged relatively well, controls and visuals-wise.

Combat evolved and Halo 2 were by far the best. Solid gameplay as well as the fact that CE actually followed the source novels to the letter. The story in 2 was superb in that you get to see the fate of the unseen enemy commander whom you defeated in the first title. ODST is a gem in itself, albeit a short one. 3 is fun but has less replay value. Reach is okay, but is ruined if you've read the books (lore contradictions and whatnot.) Halo Wars is fun and simple, but there won't be a sequel so don't look forward to finding what happens after the cliffhanger ending. 4 is trash. They traded mechanics dating back to the first game such as the fact that bodies have never disappeared for slightly better graphics. I'm still playing through Spartan Assault, but it's nice to see that they've brought back some of the vehicles from Halo Wars.

You have to admit, they characterize supersoldiers stolen as children to be trained into hyper-lethal killing machines. They did what they could.

As much as I didn't really like what the new devs did to halo 4, they took a big step in making halo 5 really fucking good. I mean it looks amazing and plays amazing. I really enjoyed the multiplayer beta for halo 5.

Up until the point someone gets shot out of nowhere and you just go "Oh, eh. They're dead.", without so much as a shrug. Though to be fair I always valued the gameplay and coop over the story, as long as things seemed coherent enough.

Halo always seemed to have went for the corny sci-fi action movie vibe, with the macho marines and their big guns, and the super soldier himself tearing through alien after alien. I will admit that the creepy-ass Flood levels in Halo CE certainly nailed the horror elements, though. Those are still among my favourites.

The thing about Halo is that the main characters are two dimensional cardboard stands with extremely predictable character arcs (if they even have character arcs). They shoot things good, they punch things good, but that's about it. They're not interesting in any way, really.

Like a Necromancer, I bring this post back to life.

With Halo out on the PC, who would be interested in playing through the Campaign, or doing some Multiplayer?
