Bunky Become Bureaucrat - Command Whitelist

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: BunkyB

Character names: Oliver Kurtis

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Coming on to a year of consistent play! I don't know the exact time, maybe 10 months?

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I've only ever received two notes, one of them was recently. Both were warns.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

Ingame, HoD's acts as a leading figure, they are responsible for their departments personnel and in certain cases, responsible for the whole station. I frequently rely on Captains and Heads to give me directions and commands, I assume most other people do too; being in a Head of Staff position requires you to be able to handle all of these requests and more in a timely manner while also being clear and concise with it.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

People with a Command Whitelist have presumably committed a lot of time to the server, they may have a wealth of technical knowledge or be well versed in playing multiple roles. You may be able to rely on these players for assistance in OOC, LOOC or even possibly AOOC. I know I already fit a few of these bills and I'd be more than willing to help people with or without a Command Whitelist!

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career?

Oliver is a Sol immigrant, he immigrated before the invasion that took place in KOTW, he was upset with the path that the Alliance was taking, foreseeing it would collapse and took the choice to immigrate with his family to the closest, safest place he could find. As for his career; Oliver has always been in the criminal investigation industry, job security was never a real problem for him before he moved. Oliver applied for every job he could find that matched his experience portfolio, applying with the Biesellian Government and many private organisations before eventually landing a hit with NanoTrasen. Oliver is contemplating his choices and he's looking for a change after working in the industry for 15+ years.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?

Head of Security, perhaps Consular.

Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles?

Yes! I read Head of Security frequently. I have glazed over the other command roles, as I don't intend to play them - yet, anyway.

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.:

Oliver Kurtis will go from Investigator > Head of Security. They will not take the Investigator slot if HoS is filled.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?

Yes, I hope it never comes to that, though.

I've like Oliver Kurtis when I saw them around. Can't say I know how they are in Security, since I don't play the department often but as a character outside Security looking in, it seems like he's good.

I just wonder about one thing, if Oliver's job isn't very secure, and he's planning to get away from the field, why would he get a promotion to Head of Security? Might it be more ideal to get a fresh Head of Security character? I can't say for certain, but it just seems a bit odd to have someone with low job security, pun not intended, as a Command Character. A recently promoted one, that is.

Other than that though, I can't think of any issues with you so I think you should get a chance at a trial.

Might've worded in a rough way, but the intent was to say that Oliver gained job security after getting a staff position in NT, thank you for the reply+feedback.

I play Seth Miller.

I like what I've seen of Kurtis, Bunky has generally done well during their trial period and I think they're suitable for a command whitelist. I can't say I've ever seen Kurtis do anything in overtly poor form for an HoS, and Bunky seems to put an appropriate amount of effort into playing him.

+1 from me.

I think you really need to focus more on communication. With the team, with command, with the rest of the crew; very often it's essentially radio silence as you play from the front. Now, whilst I don't think this is terrible, it does make things really frustrating sometimes when playing sec alongside you. That said, this is pretty much stock advice for every new command WL, especially the crazy folks who do so on the hardest role lol ^^.

Good luck, sure you'll figure it out.

While I do agree with you about my communication, I'd like you to give an example for me, I'm confused as to what you mean by 'playing from the front' as I've never done such in the rounds I've played, half of them are composed of me sitting in the lobby catting idly. I'd like to see where this is coming from.

I'm a little worried that you do not seem to have character diversity. I was under the impression you played more characters than just Kurtis, but you only have the one character listed here in the application. My reasoning for this concern is that it is extremely easy to play one personality and wing it at every twist and turn until you meet with a failure scenario. I would personally suggest you make one additional character with a different personality and head of staff job in the interest of achieving different types of perspective with different types of character mindsets/goals.

I have a handful of character concepts I play for one or two rounds and never touch again, I've had Kurtis for like two years between Bay and Aurora and is the only character I play consistently, they have the most writing and thought put into them.

I'm confident at making concepts for characters but fitting them into the Aurora and actually playing them is something I struggle with.

I'm not so sure about making a second command character as I have very little experience outside of playing security; I'm decent at engineering but not on a level to where I'd pick CE, the same goes for the rest of the departments, except for like, HoP?

Although I'd like to see more of Oliver Kurtis as command, from what I've seen they perform very well and do things as expected. I've seen them work as investigator and he has done well.

I personally highly value character development and I think in this case the evolution I have seen is great.

Interacting with Oliver, they're often one of the leading officers for response. They consistently are able to focus on not only the task at hand, but the bigger picture. Instead of simply running to and fro from call to call, they will often think outside the box. For example, guarding the Captain or personally checking in on matters that are relevant to ongoing cases. This is something that I feel makes a good HoS.

In addition, Bunky is good at roleplay. From my interactions with them, I have noticed that they are able to keep pace with fast conversations, multiple overlapping subjects, etc. Conversely, and this is not a negating comment but rather my personal preference, I'd like to see more flavor added via more descriptive emoting.
The development and evolution of Oliver as a character may be slightly quick, but in my opinion they are well suited for the position of HoS.

As others have stated above, I would suggest creating additional characters. This will help fill out any gaps in your knowledge that may be expected of a HoS or other command position.
