Records - The REWORK

Recommended Posts

As you know, currently most players use record templates and make huge sections for there records. But new players / lazy players don't use such templates. Also there are plenty of fields that are currently just not populatable by players from character setup, so main idea is to make said fields editable by players.

Also other thing to include is reasonable record generator - we ask basic question, you push button and it generates record data based on job, age, and other provided information.

Also another thing for convivence - make it possible to provide birthday and age will be automatically calculated from it.

And maybe in the future make guided player setup screen as an option.

So first thing I want to ask community is to send your current records for reference -  https://forms.gle/2PJSVm98mjpfkbMv5

Considerations and thots:

  • This can be used to help codify and present more elements of _da lore_, as Marlon pointed out above. Universities/schools, major hospitals, place of birth, what else?
  • Consider making record entries/notes permanent via SQL and manageable by the user, much like security record entries are. Or, at least, leave the possibility of this being added later 👀
  • Don't go too crazy with options or fields.

I've never filled in character records, because I find it to be a slog of largely irrelevant information that I would probably forget a few days after writing it. I find info like home address, family members, last doctor's physical to be trivial and dull to write out unless I'm going out of my way to make it an important detail. That's a flaw with me, I'll admit it. If there was a system that made it easier to plug in basic info (place of birth, education, etc.) for fleshing the character out to a better minimum than "blank slate" without demanding a lot of time and effort, then I would be all for it. Of course there should still be options for those who aren't as lazy as me and fill in their records in their own style, but I doubt anyone is planning to take that away.

Thats an +1 from me

Not only because im lazy and would like something like this but also because it would help maintain uniformity on how records are written, because as of now one person record can differ greatly from another since writting styles are different even thought they work for the same company
