KingOfThePing
BYOND Key: KingOfThePing Discord Username: Lanze#0792 Character Name: Azradov Mrakiizar Item Name: "worn journal" Item Function(s): Breaking it down onto the technical level, it is basically a glorified folder. I can put sheets in it and I (and others) can read it. There will be typed out recipes for food items in it, as well as new recipes that will get added over time. The book can also be opened and closed. One is also able to flip pages to different ones to "search" for a recipe. Another feature would be a sort of "index" as it was done by @TheGreyWolf's journal item before to make sorting the recipes by cultures more easily. But what do you expect, they are books. You read them and write in them. Item Description: "A heavily worn journal-like hardcover book. It is filled with lots of handwritten notes, lists and some sketches in between. Both the contents in the book, aswell as the loose pages tucked in between are mostly written in Siik'maas. The front has a strip of tape with the name 'Ahkrraazarjhri Maalhalkasanurran' on it. Why is your character bringing this item to work?: Azradov lives for cooking. He is not only working on the Aurora, he used to get into cooking back on Adhomai, he is also cooking in a friend's little restaurant in D6 and he is part of a cooking enthusiasts/show cooking group, also located in Mendell. During all of this he is in an ever-going exchange with other cooks. Sharing, learning and trying out new recipes from all cultures is what he lives for. The Aurora brings all kinds of people together so he thought he could bring his book to learn recipes from fellow chefs and/or customers who may be requesting something special or unusual. To not forget all of that he writes it down in his book. How did your character obtain this item?: Azradov brought the book with him from Adhomai. His reading and writing may not have been flawless back then, but it was enough to copy recipes from colleagues. When passing the mandatory TCB speech course after coming to Tau Ceti, he also improved his reading and writing of Siik'maas on the side. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: To summarize - it is an item with a high personal value. It is not valuable per se, but it basically summarizes his working life and his passion in one. I have not planned out all entries I will copy into it at the beginning of every round (the "core", so to say) but the goal is to explain why, when and how he collected some of his more exotic recipes (e.g. traditional solarian or sinta meals or dominian ones, just to name three examples). The stories I can tell are pretty expansive and it will get only more the longer the item exists. Sprites: Additional Comments: The sprite is done - the "flipping through" variant pages are not entirely done yet, but will be soon. All credit goes to the corporate sekritsanter who I humbly thank again for this. Edited December 23, 2021 by KingOfThePing fixed format error Link to comment

ShesTrying
I don’t know how we can add pages to it over time— unless you would like that to be in roleplay and not mechanical. Link to comment
KingOfThePing
No, no, I would have to re-add them every round, I know that it's not possible to have it persistent. I have/would have it in a saved document. The mechanical page flipping and the "added recipe" thing over time that I would have to do are not connected to each other. Think of it as more of a folder than a classic book, like the ones from the library. Edited December 23, 2021 by KingOfThePing clarified Link to comment
