Flpfs Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Why it should be removed - It's trash and annoying - We always get le funny ling revive in morgue!!! Leading to an epic 50 minute goose chase in maint with the ling going into morph mode over and over. We should encourage risky gameplay and not this boring play pretend of security killing the ling, then going 😮 when it (always) revives. The ling rounds I have been in are all the same, the ling always causes a crapstorm, gets either thrown into xenobio where he's farmed with laserguns forever, or they chase him around for eternity. I'm willing to work on a PR to limit the ling to one revive only. Some have said that it'd be metagamed, and that's true, but the current gamemode is already metagamed to hell, with security never disarming after killing the ling because they know it's going to come back up, or watching the body ad infinitum for an "autopsy"  Let's make this gamemode less repetitive and boring by removing an annoying feature.
Alfa1561 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 The ling reviving during autopsy has become the bane of my investigator existence. It is the greatest level of pain because its the same shit every single time, over and over, with no change to the formula. Something, anything, to encourage the ling not to act the same way over and over and take more care about how it does its business. One idea proposed on discord was that people be able to resist out of morgue trays, the ling included. That way the ling would actually have an incentive to not wake during autopsy. If everyone thinks its dead and stored off in the morgue, it can try slip out and begin its grim work again with nobody the wiser until they're caught.
Granodd Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 I would rather endure 10 bad ling gimmicks than remove the chance for there to ever be 1 that actually makes creative use of the revive mechanic. I feel this is more of a hub antag issue than it is an issue with ling itself.

You actually can exit morgue trays, but not when you're inside a body-bag inside a morgue tray. It isn't that clear to me how to fix that right now. Edited May 17, 2022 by Myazaki

I feel this is more of a hub antag issue than it is an issue with ling itself. Changeling's potential for developing a narrative is pretty much tapped out. They don't have the tools other antagonists do for narrative development, and at the same time they're individually quite weak and are focused for stealth on a server where stealth is dissuaded. I don't hate changeling but it's one of those gamemodes we have, like vampire or cult, that is showing its origin as a flawed, objective-based gamemode that mostly exists in the modern day for the sake of "variety". At the very least I can tell you just about every changeling round I've ever played on Aurora has felt the same as the last, unless the ling in question got horror form. This isn't a matter of ten bad rounds, but of hundreds.
Garnascus Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Changeling's power relies on being able to come back from death. Removing its ability to do so is a net nerf to game mode and will just make it worse. If you want to propose removing changelings ability to infinitely revive you need to buff it in other ways to incentivize more healthy gameplay. As it stands nothing will change with this suggestion. The changeling will die, revive, die again and then the round will end. They will not try better gimmicks.Â

Unsure how BYOND handles the morgue + body bag hybrid.
