EJJ Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 I've heard a lot of talk of people wanting to add a safe back to the Horizon. My suggestion is adding a safe either to the Captain's office or to a new vault that would contain spoils/plot related items from past events or whatever command deems important enough to store in it. Additionally the vault could have some items of interest that aren't just access related or weapons related. Giving antags some more varied things to do aside from breaking into the Captain's office.
Carver Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 I like this idea, more tie-ins to old lore arcs are always super cool - and a safe is a good way to include them without making them especially 'in-your-face'. In general I think a vault should only contain monetarily valuable and lore valuable stuff.
Dreamix Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 I have no opinion on a vault myself. I do share the concerns below, but I don't really care all that much if it is added or not. I have seen on a few occasions other people say a vault is bad, and was not included in Horizon, because: It provides incentive for antags to just steal from it, instead of actually interacting with the crew. It makes for repetitive and/or low-effort gimmicks. Crew is "forced" to approach the antags. Stealing from the vault does not endanger or discomfort any crew. The average crew might not care about some company credits being stolen, as it's not the crew's personal cash, no one is getting hurt, operation of the ship is not really impacted by it, etc. Like how irl bank staff is advised to just give whatever to the robbers.
ReadThisNamePlz Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 Hi, I'm working on a vault right now that'll contain a safe. I can have it contain the secure items too.

Already the case with secure storage. This would just make it more relevant beyond "oh no they stole some phoron." 5 minutes ago, Dreamix said: It makes for repetitive and/or low-effort gimmicks. Everything can really. There's no real defense against a bad gimmick. That doesn't justify removing the tools to craft a really good one. 5 minutes ago, Dreamix said: Crew is "forced" to approach the antags. Confused rock Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 we can't have an infinite stream of ideas. there will always be some "repetitive" or "low effort" antag stuff, and I'd prefer them GETTING THE THERMAL DRILL to them taking a random guy hostage or spouting exploitables over radio for the millionth time. If it's easier to antag we'll get more antags that mean well.
greenjoe Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 The treasures that were collected from the tomb would be a good example of something to put in there (tho it would also be cool to have them in some display (if there were a way to do that which doesn't make em super easy to steal))
Carver Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Echoing the above, I had asked Alb if it would be possible to see maybe a burial urn and one of the sets of ancient Adhomian armour in there. Some stuff that's flavourful and cool, and could reasonably be kept on the ship instead of being sent off immediately - while having decent possibilities for antag motivation (seeing as they're treasures taken via graverobbing, with ties to the Raskariim). I hope such a thing would be possible, it'd be a neat addition!
