eddymakaveli Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 (edited) Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: eddymakaveli Character Name(s): Ruben Belmonte, Konstantyn Lovad, Rahim Kumar, Shareef Khouroshi AI Name(s): N/A Discord username + tag: EZ#9664 Age:26 Timezone: GMT -7 When are you on Aurora?: Weekdays around 19:00 - 1:00 GMT -7 & Weekends typically around 12:00 - onward, off and on. Experience How long have you played SS13?: Since late November. How long have you played on Aurora: Since late November! How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: Enough to mess around on test servers and not be lost. Some of the finer nuances of some systems still elude me, but I am a fairly quick study. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Nope! Have you read through the criteria thread; https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4198 - and believe that you mark off all the criteria?: Yes. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No. Personality Why do you play SS13?: Roleplay, telling collaborative stories with people and interacting with a world that is markedly alive and shifting. The systems are fun and enjoyable, but I play for the people and the world before any sort of mechanics. [b]Why do you play on Aurora?: It started off because my friends played here, but now it's because I can see how much of the things we interact with on Aurora are genuine labors of love. Whether it be XNS articles or the recent Cold Dawn arc - people on Aurora are creating a world that is alive and filled with the passions of those writing it in most cases. It's really cool to be a part of that, even in a minor way like a player. What do moderators do?: Moderators serve as a form of both keeping people compliant with server/discord rules, as well as making sure folks are being alright with each other both IC and OOC. Along with the occasional point in the right direction for new folk or folk who might be unsure about something, they are trusted members of the community who are endowed with the ability to do more than a player can. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: As per my previous reply, it really boils down to making sure the server is a place where people are both having fun and also keeping the integrity of the server above board. As well as the aforementioned help/guidance offered to people, depending on the severity of the issue. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I spend a lot of time on the server or interacting with it adjacently through discord - and if I can use that time to make it better, then I'd like to. I am incredibly passionate about the things I invest time into - Aurora now being one of them, and it's something that has quickly grown near and dear to me. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I am fairly level-headed and although I've not been around for long - it also means I don't have any longstanding biases or baggage from previous interactions with people. I'd like to think I have the ability to be both friendly and professional, and I am not afraid to be direct when I need to be - nor do I shy from confrontation when it's appropriate. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Stress is something I take very seriously, and I have no issue with stepping away and taking a breather when things get to be too much - as for anger and insults, I've been a head administrator for other roleplay mediums before and understand that when people invest so much time into said medium (myself included) they can get incredibly defensive/upset when something happens that they do not agree with or that they feel leaves them aggrieved. I don't really care for dramatics nor do I really entertain someone going off the handle, and I have the skills to manage such should it come to that. Anything Else You Want to Add: While I am new to SS13/Aurora in general, moderation would not be something I am new to - not to mention that I would work hard to quickly familiarize myself with the systems/mechanics that I am not currently familiar with. ReadThisNamePlz Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 (edited) You're pretty new, which is not a reason to be disqualified from the possibility of a trial, but it does make me want to vet you a bit. Out of every attribute found in I would like you to think on it then list the best that describe you to the worst that describes you. 1. Being the best, and 8 being the worst. Also, of course - gather feedback. Good Luck! Edited March 23, 2023 by ReadThisNamePlz

Out of every attribute found in I would like you to think on it then list the best that describe you to the worst that describes you. 1. Being the best, and 8 being the worst. Also, of course - gather feedback. Good Luck! Of course! I would rank them in this order: 1. Ability to communicate 2. The ability to remain courteous 3. Identifying bias I think these three traits/qualities are likely my strongest/best. I genuinely love people and talking to people, so I have a lot of experience with both being approachable yet direct in the way I communicate. This falls hand-in-hand with being able to remain professional and polite even when the other party may not be feeling inclined to - and identifying bias has a lot of levels to it. Being able to take a step back and look at the "optics" of a situation, and putting yourself in someone else's shoes when it comes to how they might view a situation. People are not insular and there's no universal way to deal with them. While a certain issue might be your 5-6th time dealing with something, it could be someone's first time and that will alter both perspectives. The ability to identify that is key to being successful in any role where you have a semblance of 'power' over people. 4. Activity 5. Initiative 6. Knowledge of the rules While not exactly my 'weak points', I'd say that these are very solidly not my strongest traits. My activity is sporadic in the sense that while I play often, it's at weird times. I work a full-time job so by the time I get home, most of the player base is sleeping or getting to bed. Sometimes I get home early or work from home and can log some earlier rounds, but it's hardly consistent. Despite that, I definitely never feel like I am out of touch or lacking in the current events IC. And the last two just come with experience. It's no secret I've not played here for very long, and though I know the rules and am familiar with them - I don't necessarily have the background to know why some might've been put into place, historically. That doesn't mean I won't research or defer to a more experienced staff/ask a more experienced staff, just that it might be an adjustment. As for initiative - I love projects and genuinely enjoy doing things to help out. I am an excellent self-starter as long as I have a finger pointed in the right direction by someone. 7. Good judgment 8. Knowing your limits I don't struggle at all with asking for help, but the trait description noted 'not burning yourself out', which is something I can definitely improve on. I care deeply for things and am an all-or-nothing kind of person when I do things. This can lead to taking on more than I can manage simply because I get joy/satisfaction over helping people and being 'good' at things I apply myself to. And for judgment, while I can definitely use common sense, there will likely be times that I will just make a bad decision simply because of a lack of experience with the system/server. I am pretty good at taking feedback and applying it though, so I don't see it becoming a recurring issue. I hope that answers that!
La Villa Strangiato Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Genuinely uncomfortable how level-headed and comfortable with talking to people that EZ is. Is not your average spessmans goon in that he can actually communicate with people! Would be a good fit for a mod but I am obviously biased, and also new.
GrazalThruka Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 +1 from me as well, with the "I'm new" caveat as well. Eddy is very chill and can be trusted to be rational and calm.
Misiek1001 Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 I'm basically an old newbie but I wouldn't mind Eddy as a Moderator. Don't think I've ever seen him actually lose his cool. +1
DekserBecauseILostMyAccoun Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 (edited) I'm supposed to have left Aurora and ss13 entirely already, but can't say goodbye yet without giving my +1 to this goober. Good friend of mine for some time now, they are extremely competent in-game and I haven't had a negative exchange with them, they genuinely care about Aurora and I know, given a chance, they can do some good for this server. A very chill person who based on our conversations really does seem to have the servers best interests in mind. Here's my last semi-meaningful number thrown onto this forum. Godspeed Eddy. +1 Edited March 24, 2023 by DekserBecauseILostMyAccoun
RustingWithYou Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Eddy is a good friend of mine, and ever since I've known him my impression has been a very calm and reasonable guy - I think that he's a good communicator, and would make a good fit for the moderation team. Enthusiastic +1 from me.
BoryaTheSlayer Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 I don't really know Eddy that well as a person - given I just came back to the game a little over a week ago and our conversations have been sporadic. But my impression so far of him is a good one and I would like to see how he does in a trial. +1
ReadThisNamePlz Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Here is Eddy's interview. https://pastebin.com/LZwHiMes @eddymakaveli Please continue collecting feedback.
lilahnovi Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 I've known Eddy for a little while now (Two years since February!! omg!!) On a different RP game, his characters played in major faction positions THREE TIMES (head of a city two times, military leader once), and even though that is roleplay-based, it still showed that he had some understanding of leadership and how to carry himself as a player guiding that character. These positions had him leading very large populations and keeping tabs on day-to-day happenings, as well as issuing punishments and various other management tasks (these were no small feat on a server with 100s of people in a persistent world with battling factions and some of the worst OOC bleed I've ever witnessed. Leadership positions were brutal.) OOCly, Eddie was always level-headed, didn't hold grudges and was willing to talk issues out with people. He's always been cool af, even when our characters were on opposite factions - he really never let OOC bleed affect his decisions or emotions. Make him a mod, straight up! +1
LordPwner Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 He should have been banned a long time ago. Eddy is a great RPer, and person OOCly. They aren't big on starting issues and often can be kind and fun to talk with. Watching his characters interact with the lore is interesting due to the depth and focus put in each one. I think they'd make a great staff member honestly, and their friendly nature + approachability is a nice bonus + inability to reply to the relay. Give 'em the shiny +1 Bwoink me, I dare you. meant to post before trial, but here we go
