How long have you been playing on Aurora?
I've been playing on Aurora for about a year now

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?
I have received some bwoinks for some looc shenanigans, but they are not very serious and were resolved quickly.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?
The OOC purpose of an Head of Staff is to ensure the smooth running of your department and to help disperse orders from command to your staff. It is also a mentor role, if someone is unsure of mechanics in your department, they know they can ask you for help. Heads of Staff also help initiate roleplay with the department, whether that be an engineering demonstration in the Holodecks or operations offering commission for handing in bounties.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?
The OOC responsibilities are to help newer players learn their roles onboard the Horizon and to guide . For engineering how to set up power, the thrusters, and atmospherics, and for operations how to sort the warehouse, send out/receive bounties, and make sure mining gets back home safely. I would uphold these by being in contact with my staff and personally assisting new players in their jobs.

Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon.
Since Violet Dawn, Flynn has been drifting between Hephaestus sites, simply taking any job that he could in an attempt to rise up in the ranks and get enough money to pay for his ailing mother's bills. After only a year of hard labor in orbital factories in the Sol system, Hephaestus noticed the ambition of this Martian and decided to send him as a representative of Hephaestus to the SCCV Horizon, coincidentally once there were openings after the [REDACTED]. While he was new to the Horizon, his perseverance was put to the test during the weaponizing of the Horizon and some intense firefights with the Southern Fleet Administration, with him nearly dying in the process. This prompted him to take a change of pace, becoming a miner onboard as well. Though he was not on the Horizon for the events on Adhomai, the news of his friend's and dozens of other's deaths has left him questioning about what could have been.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?
I plan on playing either Operations Manager or Chief Engineer, as I feel these command roles are not played as much as others. I plan on promoting my tech/miner Flynn to Manager in the short term, and giving Navin more time and growth before promoting him to Chief Engineer permanently.

Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles?
Yes I have.

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking:

  • Flynn Johnson, Operations Manager
  • Jimmy Navin, Chief Engineer
  • Kentz Steiger, Operations Manager

Edit: I am taking the advice of the commenters and have made a character for Operations manager instead of using my main, in case I do not enjoy it

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?
Completely understandable.

Have you linked your BYOND account to the Forums?
Yes.

Extra notes:
While I know this application is for all of command, I don't see myself making a Head of Security or Captain anytime in the future until I get more acclimated with their departments

changed so Flynn is not OM during my trial, which many have suggested

I would absolutely recommend BoomerThor for command, as they repeatedly show themselves to be a skilled player, a communicative interim, and a wonderful roleplayer. +1.

What I would suggest, though, is making a separate character for your trial, at the very least. In my experience, everyone who has promoted a regular character of theirs to command finds that they grow stressed with command play, and end up playing a beloved character a lot less.

ez +1, rp'd with Thor for months as miner, clearly knows how to roleplay so not an issue there, have seen him do interim OM plenty of times as well, never seen anything wrong there either. want to see an official trial, but I imagine he can do just fine

Boomer's been nothing but a joy to interact with. They know their way around their department with a level of experience and competence you don't often find. Easy to interact with, always open to RP with both friends and newcomers, portrays realistic/believable characters. I'll echo the general sentiment in this thread so far about making a character specifically for the trial. Please do! You get the best of both worlds. You get to practice the juggling act of Command with a clean slate that doesn't come with any strings attached. If you enjoy the Command angle, you can always properly promote your characters after the trial. If you don't, you saved yourself a world of headache. I did it for my command trial and I'm extremely glad I did.

The man has a comfortable +1 from me. Can't wait to see you in game.

This guy joined November last year, I believe, as Flynn Johnson and their first fifteen minutes in crowbarred my character in the dome once because I two-by-four'd them. Jokes aside, Boomer has been consistently the high point of my round and has been a blast to see develop, both in-character and out-of-character, as a better player. Boomer demonstrates nearly every round they play in that they are capable of communication, competency in every role(except when they do that one silly thing in mining occasionally :P), and a love and respect for this server and its lore.

Biased because Boomer has made one of the most beloved character's I've been able to interact with, of course. But they deserve a shot at command and I'm certain will be a great addition to the roles. GOAT through and through, command wl or no command wl, I have nothing left to say about this player!

+1!

Boomerthor's been constantly reliable as command, willing to do anything from take part in horrible antag gimmicks or defend the sanctity of Mars. I'm excited to see him in command, though I will echo Lavilla, don't burn yourself out or kill your interest in a char by promoting them when you won't have as much fun with them in command.

Keep up the good work!

Boomerthor yet again shows his competence as not only a SS13 player, but as a leader. Flynn and Jimmy have always been characters I know I can rely on, and are fun to be around. Having now encountered Boomer's Operations Manager, I am nothing less than impressed yet again. He's professional, articulate, and handles misfortune and boons with dignity and responsibility. I personally think he would make an excellent command staff member, and probably should have been promoted to it long ago, with how he's demonstrated himself on past characters.

Big +1 for Boomer, they're consistently fantastic with roleplay, IC communication, and entertainment for a round, and I see them as a shoe-in for an excellent Command player. Time and time again they've shown a lot of rational, sane thinking in regards to antags, events, and even day to day play, and I'm excited to see them excel in a more leadership-oriented role!
