Lancer and ReadThisNamePlz Complaint

BYOND Key: Ben Aflek is an OK Actor
Staff BYOND Key: Lancer and ReadThisNamePlz
Game ID: cq9-dy0J
Reason for complaint:

I was told, in the middle of a round, that my IPC Z.I War (A Warden) had to have it's name changed because the "lore team didn't like it." Well, I have a few issues with that. First of all, my name doesn't break any rules, nor does it go against any IPC naming rules. IPC's have always had quirky names. It's one of the few pro's to being an IPC. My chef, FAMINE, has never had an issues and a lot of players really like the concept behind it.

When I asked Read (who was the messenger for this lore decision why it had to be changed, they didn't have a reason behind why they were implementing Lancer's order. They just went with it. I understand Lancer's "in charge", but you should at least tell me why in the world this is going on.  Lancer had gone to bed almost immediately after giving their hammer to the name, and I was left entirely confused, a little upset, and quite a bit targeted towards something that makes no sense.

Read mentioned it wouldn't make sense for Zavod to purchase an IPC named War for security detail, but... why purchase ANY IPC with any quirky name then? We just had an IPC named Turing, which is the literal test to see if a machine is intelligent. There's IPC's named COFFEE, and FLAK (Which is literal type of ammunition).

None of these IPC's get name changes. You're telling me WAR, which is half the name of WARden is unacceptable for a Zavod IPC? Knowing Zavod is a company that (and I'll rip this right from the wiki) focuses on military and police equipment in recent years would have issue with an IPC named War, that is fitted to be a WARden?

I did not say that the lore team did not like it. I told you that they wanted it to be changed.

I did not have anything to share with why it was requested because Lancer went to sleep.

For clarity sake, here is the ticket.

Actually says "not allowed". The lore team did not like my name.

Speaking on behalf of the synthetic team here,

Admittedly our judgment was a bit hasty and we should have provided an explanation of why we're asking you to change your name. With that being said:

Even for a company deeply involved in hiring out mercenaries or providing security, we think that ZI War is a little bit too on the nose. It'd be like calling a Z.I Killer, or Z.I Death - yes, these are concepts related with what Zavodskoi does, but just because the company gets up to them doesn't mean they're going to name IPCs in this way. Part of their brand image is looking like professional clean-cut mercenaries, not a bunch of killers. It'd be the same as calling a doctor Pestillence or Death, it's not a name that inspires confidence for what is ultimately a product. War could be the nickname of an IPC, but it's not likely that Zavodskoi would make it the official name.

These officers go wherever Zavodskoi employees go and are known throughout the Orion Spur for their professionalism. According to company representatives, Zavodskoi's security wing is one of the most competitive in the Orion Spur and is trained longer than any other megacorporation's security force.

Even if Zavodskoi bought a series of IPCs called "Murder" or what have you, corporate would likely rename them.

Could I retconn WAR being Zadov and keep the name? PM's are also an option for Wardens.

As for "On the nose", yes, but again.. naming IPC's anything funky would be "too on the nose", aka Turing, Flak, PIXEL, Asclepius even. Coffee is literally a Barista bot named Coffee. We have a hundred examples of this in IPC players right now.

It's just odd to me mine was picked out but everyone elses remains the same.

FAMINE was approved of years ago by synth team, and admins.

Unfortunately, we're not willing to have War as a name for an IPC in the warden position whether in Zavodskoi or PMCG. Yes, IPC names can reference their position and many names are on the nose, however War for a warden in a corporation which emphasizes security is a bridge too far.

We're not touching FAMINE, we approved that, so be it.
