wowzewow Posted Wednesday at 17:32 Posted Wednesday at 17:32 Has this ever happened to you? Thinking about aura farming with your HOS killing some ne'er-do-wells, or dropping someone with a well placed headshot as an Antag, only for this to happen? ...you shoot like, three bullets, point blank at them, and they stay standing for a few seconds, and then they fall over, and they continue to bleed out, and the moment's kind of ruined... So, basically. If you've got a gun up to someone's temple, or a sword around someone's neck, you can request to execute someone for dramatic effect. A little box will pop up "John Spess is looking to execute you! Yes/No" and after a short delay (you can resist to back out if you change your mind), blam! You die. Utterly and completely. Glory kill stuff for extra cool points. Gun executions blow peoples heads up. Sword executions decapitate people. Laser rifles disintegrate people's heads. etc. It's also good for people who want to leave the round and don't particularly care about the possibility of medical rescuing them. And you know, martyr themselves and die in the coolest way possible. 1 Quote
greenjoe Posted Wednesday at 21:47 Posted Wednesday at 21:47 I do wonder how the combat and medical changes planned for NBT2 will affect stuff like point-blank shots Quote

Mr.Popper Posted Thursday at 04:08 Posted Thursday at 04:08 This is really embarrassing but when I hear "request to execute" I have visceral flashbacks to roleplaying on Roblox as a kid. Most roleplay games didn't have any combat, so it was customary to ask for "permission to kill" someone and when they (almost always) refused you were left awkwardly staring at them trying to come up with a new plan and reason not to kill them. On the other side, if you refused to let someone kill you, you often had to come up with some crazy playground reason to escape death. It sucked and I admit me not liking this suggestion might be a cringe response to those memories. SS13 doesn't need permission to kill. We have a combat system that can simulate injuries. I realize the intent is just to create some dramatic flair, but I'm worried it could turn into a cultural standard; victims suddenly begin to take the execution prompt for granted and get upset when killed without it, antags feel obligated to use it as part of escalation, other antaggery is expected to receive consent too, etc. I'm fine with just buffing point blank attacks if it's balanced. 1 Quote

Also, this is a gross misinterpretation of my suggestion. "John Spess is looking to DOOM Eternal™ Glory Kill you, do you accept? Yes/No" doesn't particularly roll off the tongue. On the contrary, I think having something like this would encourage deaths in the cinematic sense. We've got people with DNR, people looking to die for someone else's character arc, "making the ultimate sacrifice"... I can't say for certain how common this is, but I've seen plenty of players enjoy dying for the plot. Quote
