Dea Tacita
Now, many, many characters, mine included department jump. Can someone please tell me why this is an issue with Travis Davis? Imo it depends on the departments that you jump between. If it's from a field that requires no professional degree I.E. security, I think that character is fine to be in another one that does require a degree I.E. medical or engineering (To a point). I also think it's okay with departments that have concise, related fields of knowledge. I.E. engineering and robotics, medical and research (to a point) to jump between these two fields of related knowledge. Atmospherics would almost certaintly require a professional degree, as would Xenobiology/Telescience. So that's a strike on the first one. As for the second one, Atmospherics and Telescience share no fields of knowledge. So strike out on that one too. For clarification, I'm not saying "BAN HE IMMEDIATELY". It is my opinion that Furry has gone beyond the agreement set between him and staff by acting outside of a "Basic" level of atmospherics knowledge. And I'm simply wanting Furry to be issued another warning/whatever staff thinks is reasonable. I'm really not embarking upon a witch-hunt here Edited November 9, 2015 by Guest Link to comment
Frances
You guys need to relax. (Furry, Nibbles, Delta, everyone else.) This seems like a simple misunderstanding. I'd think Dea and Valkrae have been polite in bringing up their issues, and the claims of this complaint being a personal attack or completely needless are just turning it into a shouting match. This could have been solved in a few posts, but I hope you realize you're effectively turning it into the extensive argument you don't want it to be. Link to comment
Valkrae
This complaint thread has devolved past what I had originally intended it to be. And because of that, I'd like it locked, if an administrator would please. Link to comment
Skull132
Just for the sake of clarity, what'll happen next. About the agreement. Something Valk requested was clarification of what it was. This is the note: http://puu.sh/lf4oI/27141275c7.png What it means is this: Travis Davis is allowed to play an engineering apprentice/apprentice atmospherics tech, under the reasoning that the character had a change of heart and wants to swap out professions. For the most part, this agreement means that Travis is not allowed to do anything beyond very basic engineering tasks (mostly manual labour) without the assistance and supervision of a more trained, more senior technician/engineer. He is, basically, a student. As for why NT would allow this: our reasoning is that if Travis pays out of the schooling from his own pocket, then occupying an apprentice slot with minimum to no wage isn't really that much an issue to them (specially considering that these slots are empty half the time). Now, TF is held to this agreement. Because Dea and TF are posting conflicting accounts of whether or not it was followed, I'll go and find a few engineers, like Manfred, to figure out what actually happened. If they confirm that TF was sticking to the guidelines of the agreement, then that's that. If not, then well. Yes. In the mean time, Valkrae and TF will have a nice discussion, so that we can clarify a few things between the two players. Hopefully this will take care of this complaints. Regarding the agreement. If anyone thinks, that this sort of multidepartmental play, as I outlined in my first paragraph of this post, should not be allowed, then please post a staff complaint against the general staff. There, we can discuss one of two things: whether this agreement itself is acceptable, or what kind of multidepartmental play in general we are looking to permit on this server. And we can do so without people posting snippy-attacks, or getting defencive over it. Obviously, once that thread is concluded, the agreement will be altered to correspond. Any questions, by anyone? Oh, and if someone could give me the ckey or something of this engineer "Manfred", please let me know, thank you! Link to comment
Guest
Yes, I have a question. Could we have a more cohesive and organized discussion on what constitutes as good or bad multidepartmental play? Depending on where that goes, an announcement establishing guidelines on department hopping? Also, the issue with degree cohesion/relativity. I don't think there should be security officers who have degrees in law and often end up in the xenobiology lab or something. I do think that Atmos techs who often end up in the toxins lab as a researcher are relatively okay, since their fields are related and the work is pretty close in tandem with each other. (New, unestablished characters excepted, of course, because often their players are new and are trying to adjust to the HRP niche we have here.) Manfred Hayden is "Nikov", by the way. Link to comment
Skull132
Da wules are one of the things I want to look at eventually. My list is like this: mod apps, staff SOP real quick, and then the wules. Like, if you think, it can wait until then, then it can wait until then. Basically, I want to review all of the rules, remove the unnecessary ones (regarding the IC CoC, mostly), and then post up something where people can have a think about what needs to be further clarified, and where proper, tangible standards can be set, and where we can keep the more open, "Just be reasonable/sane about it". SierraKomodo
Just real quick, I looked over the hiring requirements for the roles of Atmos Tech and Xenobiologist from the wiki. Atmospherics Technician requires a bachelor's degree OR 7 years of prior experience, and you must be at least 25 Xenobiology requires a PhD, and you must be at least 30 A PhD will take an average of 8 years to acquire, a bachelor's an average of 4 years if I recall correctly. Gollee
I'm doing a bachelor's; it takes 3 years, with the option of a placement year between 2 and 3. Link to comment
Baka
Alright. Well, The Furry went through the trouble of speaking to SoundScopes to figure out how to make this work and getting permission to duo department as Travis if he followed the terms given to him. Which, after all, kudos because that's the proper way to go about it. It was granted, I am not really seeing the issue nor any clear proof he was doing anything "advance" beyond his means, and it devolved into a mess of "He said, She said" and fussing to be fussy bullshit. Feel free to make a thread to talk about qualifications to work two departments or "what's allowed" or whatnot, I will lock and archive this. Link to comment
