Aurora Economy stuff + NT Payscales

DISCLAIMER: I am not a lore dev, this is not /officially/ confirmed, but is a good reference for seeing how much your character makes.

Jackboot's confirmed that, currently, the conversion rate of credits to dollars is approximately 3cR : $1 USD (Subject to change when and if Skull gets the economy update rolling). Based on this, and the paygrade tiers shown on the wiki, I've come up with the following payscale after referencing the 2016 payscale for the U.S. military. The reduced pay column is for species that don't get the full pay (Tajaran, Unathi, Diona, Vaurca, and IPC). The numbers aren't exact; I rounded credits to the nearest multiple of 5 for convenience sake. References for everything is below.

The amounts below are an estimated monthly earning for each tier within NanoTrasen. This does not include any potential fees, taxxes, benefits, bonuses, hazard pay, etc.

NON COMMAND STAFF
Tier Pay USD Equiv. Reduced USD Equiv.
1 4,700 cR $ 1,566.67 3,995 cR $ 1,331.67

Wait a fucking minute. Are you telling me assistants who've been working for Nanotrasen for 20+ years earn the same as an IAA right outta compton?

You don't find IAA's that are straight out of Compton, you have to be a trusted member of staff to get into the Internal Affairs Department.

I though 1 S.C. was 3.2 U.S.D not the other way around.

Possibly, it does sort of seem that the credits were worth less than I thought they were. Considering the lack of money that each person has ingame. But if Jackboot confirmed it, we are probably wrong on that.

From the log, it seemed Jackboot kept reversing the numbers and confusing himself xD

[1/12/2016 11:55:13 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: Hai, got a lore question

[1/12/2016 11:55:31 AM] Jackboot: hello

[1/12/2016 11:55:49 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: More of a clarification. Conversion of USD to Credits is $3 = 1Cr?

[1/12/2016 11:55:56 AM] Jackboot: Just about

[1/12/2016 11:56:03 AM] Jackboot: No, excuse me

[1/12/2016 11:56:26 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: Asking because I'm looking up paygrades, costs of living, etc to determine where each of my characters fall.

[1/12/2016 11:56:33 AM] Jackboot: 4,000 credits is roughly equal in purchasing power as 12,000

[1/12/2016 11:56:42 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: And I might pose a suggested general payscale based upon the 2016 military pay tables

[1/12/2016 11:57:17 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: So, roughly, a 1:3 ratio

[1/12/2016 11:57:21 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: 1 : 3

[1/12/2016 11:57:23 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: Damn smileys

[1/12/2016 11:57:33 AM] Jackboot: It's not a hard number because our economy is dumb

[1/12/2016 11:57:41 AM] Jackboot: Just look at a modern payscale or cost of living and times it by 3

[1/12/2016 11:57:47 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: A general idea is good enough for me

[1/12/2016 11:57:52 AM] Jackboot: So like I pay $250 a month in rent

[1/12/2016 11:57:54 AM] Jackboot: Which is super low

[1/12/2016 11:57:55 AM] Jackboot: That would be

[1/12/2016 11:58:01 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: 750 cR

[1/12/2016 11:58:02 AM] Jackboot: 750 credits a month

[1/12/2016 11:58:17 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: Wait, I'm confused

[1/12/2016 11:58:26 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: 4,000 credits is roughly equal in purchasing power as 12,000

[1/12/2016 11:58:33 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: Implies a single credit is worth ~$3

[1/12/2016 11:58:36 AM] Jackboot: I KEEP DOING THIS

[1/12/2016 11:58:39 AM] Jackboot: I KEEP REVERSING IT

[1/12/2016 11:58:41 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: But the rent example implies 3 credits is worth ~$1

[1/12/2016 11:59:06 AM] Jackboot: 3 credits is 1

[1/12/2016 11:59:08 AM] Jackboot: Yes, that's right

[1/12/2016 11:59:10 AM] Jackboot: I'm sorry

[1/12/2016 11:59:22 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: K, so a 3 cR : 1 USD ratio

[1/12/2016 11:59:29 AM] Jackboot: about

[1/12/2016 11:59:42 AM] Sierra "KOMODO" Brown: Right-o

Yeah, but this is the corporate sector. Where are our golden parachutes escape pods?

This. I'd prefer to see a more hilariously disproportionate increase in pay as one scales up a la real life. Heads (and too a degree IAAs) should be making bank.

I'm excited for this combined with the persistent pay/moneys that's being developed.

That's being developed right Jackboot-san?! You promised!!

Middle Managers don't get golden parachutes. Those aren't a pay thing, either; they're a 'if the company is taken over and you are fired, you get a huge severance bonus' thing to discourage potential takeovers.

When jokes get taken too seriously. Be careful, kiddos, or this could be you!

Crunching numbers, assistants earn 56,000 USD a year. That seems really, really high for someone not trusted to operate anything more sophisticated than a light switch. I think the bottom needs to drop on this pay scale. Officer pay scale seems correct however.

taking current inflation into consideration 56k really isn't much at all tbh

Ok. Lets take this raw number and break it down. You are offered free housing, don't take it? tough shit. -5100 = 51.3k. Taxes, Beisel seems like a dick that would instate retarted income tax. -40% (20502) = 30,798. Now lets smack the idea of benefits... Mandatory payment for all possible coverage including death benefits to your family... -10,000 (reasonable for cloning, medical, prosthetics and repairs?) = 20,798. That's not so bad a final number for a yearly income.

Link to comment

Okay, now apply the same 40% income tax to all the other brackets (assuming this retarded income tax isn't also a progressive income tax) and now the officer's pay scale is fucked too.

The Aurora is in a backwater region of space, and would so gravitate toward the bottom of the regional inflation curve. I mean, that's why the station is out here, right? Cheap labor, weak laws and low oversight?

Full time minimum wage (US) is 15,000 a year. Why are teenaged assistants making three times that, on top of free housing? Wouldn't Nanotrasen be more likely to go the other direction, with free housing evaluated at some inflated market value and counted as wages to get under minimum wage for assistants?

Sierra, as good as this is it just isn't evil enough to live up to Nanotrasen Corporate Values. The unskilled positions (T1-4) need to get ground under our gold-plated jackboots. I have faith in your inner HR demons.
