Guest Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 It is, in fact, very cheap not to hire a Captain stupid enough to shout "ligger" over the radio. Why use the loyalty implant to police this? Because, Captains and HoS still act like fucking retards, dahh. Ask America about how profitable the race wars are. -snip- Oh, but we're getting our dystopian jollies by cracking down on the space-racism we wrote into our own lore, turning the loyalty implant into every Captain's shoulder-perched miniature university campus cop. I forgot how much fun that sounds. I fail to see your rationale. If anything, it reinforces the idea that NT would prefer to have their slaves feel appriciated, rather than stamped on by everyone. As a Captain, it is your fucking job to prevent a race war on station, not instigate it. If the rest of players want to take that route, it's their choice. No one's fucking stopping them. As far Racisim, I admit that's a good point. Locals, ones who did have their jobs filled by 'filthy xenos' have a right to be pissed. However, larger part of human population does not have so many aliens to deal with. They are an oddity at best. Therefore, most humans shouldn't be xenophobic to such a massive degree. Quote
Lady_of_Ravens Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 At some point before the buggers came to work on Aurora there was probably a command staff briefing which covered shit like "how to exploit the Vaurca" and "how to keep the liberals off our backs while exploiting the Vaurca". No doubt during all this the person giving the briefing reminded everyone that it's important to at least pay lip service to diplomacy and interspecies cooperation, because doing so makes the exploitation easier. For most command staff that's just an order from corporate, which they can blow off at their own risk. But for everyone who decided "I'll let NT put a mind-control implant in my brain so they'll give me a better job", there's no good excuse. But, really, even without the implants there's no good excuse for being blatantly speciesist (it's speciesism, btw, not racism, I don't know why that's so hard for people to get this right) on comms (which can be intercepted, btw), or in official documents. Not, at least, if you're a captain, and probably not for any head of staff who doesn't want to attend a mandatory and unpaid corporate image workshop, either. Quote
CampinKiller Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Okay, why wouldn't most of humanity be xenophobic to most aliens (except Skrell), when it's taken hundreds of years to even accept humans of different skin color (which isn't even completey true, see: Trump, Mexicans, etc.). That makes no sense. Literally none. What's the point of writing racism into the lore if, when people try to be racist, are told that it wouldn't happen, or would get them fired? Quote

That makes no sense. Literally none. What's the point of writing racism into the lore if, when people try to be racist, are told that it wouldn't happen, or would get them fired? It's an European brand of racism (speciesism, and yes, I know, except everyone prefers to use this term). Meaning, you are fine as long as you don't belong to any of these cultures. The majority of humanity don't have contact with aliens, therefore either don't give a fuck or don't have a negative opinion. And for fucks sake, I've already explained it somewhere. You. If you met an intelligent alien species today, how would you react? Would you start throwing slurs at it? Would you beat it with a stick? Or would you try to establish some sort of communication? Would you be at awe? It's most likely the last two. Why do you think humanity would suddenly devolve into this mess of prejudiced, retarded assholes, when even with stagnation our view of aliens would overall be positive? Saying that racism of humans today and in the past is identical to speciesism is a dumb notion. It's not the same thing. Of course you would view an alien as not human. That doesn't mean they should lose any rights of a fucking person. Quote
CampinKiller Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 I wouldn't say it should be that way if the majority of humanity in the Sol Alliance hadn't voted in a human supremacist group. And just because the initial reaction might be awe, it would devolve into prejudice if said race was seen as low-intelligence/taking the places of humans in the workplace. Quote

Other races of humans were originally looked at in awe followed by raids and enslavement. Quote
Nikov Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 You. If you met an intelligent alien species today, how would you react? How much science fiction have you read? Humanity is a superpredator. No ecosystem has two. Quote

Aye, best to just let the brave sod vent. If you're not a fan of taking blows, I can take over from here. Hey, Bokaza! Yer mother stinks! Quote
Guest Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 (Removed) Apology... I guess I am on the edge. The underlying issue is that approving speciesism at the top of the chain will have dire consequence. You call it RP. I call it bunch of retarded apes and cats tossing insults over comms. Regardess of the implants themselves, allowing the HoS and Captain to act like that is a bad idea. Quote
Guest Menown Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 TL:DR, if you wanna be racist, don't be the boss. Imagine a news story about a local manager coming to work wearing his 'Fuck the Kikes' club t-shirt. It won't go well. Be a peon if you want to racist. Don't be the boss. Quote
Conservatron Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 or feel free to be racist but don't be racist in a way that can be recorded. There are plenty of people who are racist in all levels of government today, but (most) are smart enough to not get caught, or at least not get recorded being racist. On station comms are recorded, saying racist things on comms can get you in trouble, can get NT in trouble. Saying racist things in person can get you in trouble if its reported and there is evidence to back it up. I'm not exactly sure why this is a huge deal Quote
Conservatron Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 its like you're racist against tarjs and a tarj comes with a (totally legitimate) request for promotion to an interim position (say senior engineer because there are no atmos techs, something i've seen a lot of) you don't want to give the tarj the job, but you can't say because he's a tarj, you deny the promotion on the basis that it is your call and you don't believe he has the necessary experience to take the responsibility and put liability on your shoulders. But you would promote a human with same credentials without a second thought. this is how you are speciest without yelling it over comms. Be subtle, move to the other side of the hallway when tarjs are walking by, wait for humans to come to the desk when you need to talk to someone, when pairing up, always choose humans, intentionally not order xeno-fit gloves ect.. Dumplinz Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I recall being a Captain on a shift when some Vaurca got kidnapped as a hostage by some Antags, And basically said fuck it, we're stilling going to kill/capture the antags Hostage or not. The HoS supported me but everyone else went nuts and even ahelped (which I later found out, the admins didn't contact me at the time) And we basically told the Nukeops, we weren't negotiating a Vaurca hostage for one of their own (a Nukeops we captured). Too many white knight neckbeards. Quote
Thesir Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I'm alright with well-played specieism, although I personally never play characters that way. I agree with Meow and think Dumpliz has a decent example of how low-key prejudice works. Quote
