Dreviore's EOR Grief Ban Appeal

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

BYOND Key: Dreviore

Total Ban Length: 4320 minutes

Banning staff member's Key: VoltageHero/AimlessAnalyst

Reason of Ban: End of Round Grief

Reason for Appeal: Let me start off by saying, I did do some EOR Griefing, unfortunately I wasn't fully aware that it was that.

I intended to quickly hop to departures to cause a little chaos before the shuttle arrived, unfortunately due to an earlier incident I was in surgery for a little longer then expected. Upon arrival a security guard sees me, and I take aim at him, unfortunately him, and I moving at the same time triggered me to shoot the window on the shuttle, thinking EOR griefing only really begins once the shuttle leaves, I kept shooting at that point, causing a Unathi, and security guard to get pulled into the vaccum of space. We exchanged a couple looks, and a couple items were thrown, a couple bullets were shot, and upon being pinged by Voltagehero I fled back to the ship jack so that we could talk, and the verdict was that I did infact participate in some EOR Griefing.

I fully understand why the rule is there, and I'm sorry for doing what I did.I have no intentions of doing it again. I will not do it again. Whether or not this appeal goes through.

From my understanding, I should have been issued a warning first? No?

Hi, I just applied the ban as for some reason, Voltage couldn't. I'll let them take over from here. I arrived after the whole shebang.

I was present.

The damage to the shuttle consisted of one window destroyed by gunfire. This window was sealed by an inflatable barrier within ten seconds. To my understanding there was no additional damage by gunfire. Following this, pressure in the shuttle equalized with the arrivals bay through the open airlock. Pressure was, as I left, not low enough to cause damage with internals. I was not on the shuttle for its flight back and cannot comment on its final state. If mass casualties occurred, I am unaware.

It is my understanding that grief implies a degree of malice or forethought, and that accidental grief is an oxymoron. These are my two cents.

It seems pretty clear that there WAS malice and forethought, but i assume he was playing an antagonist so it's justifiable.

The issue here is that Drev wasn't aware of exactly when the EOR griefing rule takes into effect, and didn't think it applied while the shuttle was still docked

It's my understanding that the EOR grief rule takes effect when the shuttle docks at the exodus. Drev believed it starts when the shuttle leaves exodus. Some official clarification would be helpful

Well, no. He was targeting a security officer when the security officer moved. The bullet missed the officer, and hit the window. Listening to him after the fact, it was also clear he did not intend to hit the shuttle. That said, he's back now.

Quoting exactly what has been stated by admins in the past:

EOR grief rules apply when the shuttle docks with the NSS Aurora/Exodus. All conflict is expected to stop in and around the shuttle and shuttle dock (Departures). Conflict may continue elsewhere if there's proper build up/lead up to the situation or it was already in progress (I.e., escape pods are exempt from the EOR grief rule).

This /may/ have changed since Skull became the new headmin, but this was the rule as it was enforced by Scopes.

This is pretty much the rule that gets stated whenever Jenn/Aimless is around. Like Jenn also says, sometimes, ignorance of a rule also doesn't make you exempt from it. Also, this was posted on the 1st, their ban would have expired three times over by now.

Good point. I think this thread may have actually been archived before the forum clusterfluck. I'll lock this and poke an admin.
