It's seven in the morning and I really don't have the time to make a rant post that might get ignored but would it kill you guys to have like... some amount of respect for each other?

Seriously, even staff are chewing players out and being hostile, it's getting and has been ridiculous. Somehow it's gotten even worse lately and honestly, would it seriously kill any of you to have a decent amount of empathy and learn not to cuss or chew each other out every thirty minutes?

3. A lot of it is probably satire, most of us have been playing with eachother for.... 4+ years now? Longer for the Old Guard and Seniors like Gollee, we play around a lot; even though it may seem like we're being serious when we joke in OOC.

1. I really don't think they'll get anywhere if it's anything like the one's I've been watching. I think more nothing would happen and players would chastise me for my "hurt fee-fee's". The only reason I'm not making specific complaints is I really don't have remotely enough for any action to be taken and I'd rather not make an ass of myself to specific people. I'm not sure how to go about getting anyone even warned for things that most staff or players would just write off as a joke or playful hostility.

3. Even satire can be hostile and offensive. Namely the Lesbay shit, my sexuality being a joke isn't that great and I really don't think I'm ever going to get anyone to cut it out. The rest of it doesn't really seem like satire, just people being cunts to other people (see: basically half of the shit people say to Nanako) and I don't know. Maybe I'm taking everything too seriously, but I've been fucked with a lot of my life and I'd like to say I understand the line between playful chiding and restrained or full hostility.

Theres no need to be childish about this, they did this respectfully and its something I've noticed a lot too, I'm a new player maybe a week old at this point and it really was a struggle playing the first few days on how badly people would treat me and others.

And before anyone brings up Reddit. I'll point out that the SS13 subreddit has always hated Aurora, ever since it's inception, however, seeing as how Aurora can regularly hit the top of the hub, and rival players to GOON, Colonial Marines and Baystation; it is self-evident that Reddit has very little influence on the SS13 community, and I, among others, ignore them as a matter of point. Saying things like "Reddit doesn't like it" or similar will just get you laughed at.

I feel as if a part of this is directed at myself, and my posts here. So I shall explain myself a little further. Granted, none of this may or perhaps even should be considered as "justification" for how I phrase myself from time to time, but do consider this an alternate viewpoint. I know full well that I can be a condescending asshole as I want to be one, and usually revert to being one as opposed to flat out insulting people.

First off, the suggestion itself is entirely nitpickey, and falls very much in line with a mode of thinking going something like this: "Everyone thinks like me." You can see me referencing this in one of my replies. This is sort of why I went for the dictionary references, as they were meant to objectively showcase the fact that it is completely valid to use "shouts" and "yells" as synonyms of "exclaim". Plus, when someone starts arguing technicalities with me, I have a nasty habit of responding in kind, and this usually includes throwing the book at people. In this case, quite literally. (It didn't help that she basically skipped over it v.v )

It is my belief that mechanics should be as thought-process neutral as possible. This is why they should be clear and easy to understand. Adding an exclamation mark at the end of a sentence, it makes sense to the vast majority of people that their character is shouting in one manner or another. Everything else is optional. And, so I went about enforcing my belief on the matter.

Another thing is that the matter involves coding. I tend to tread lightly when a matter does not concern something I'm up to speed on. For example, lore. I'm not in touch with lore, and so I only ever involve myself if stuff goes completely and utterly nuts. However, the closer to my heart something goes, the aggressive in my pursuit of its proper conduct I get. Reference: teaching people, and coding. Specifically, Nanako has a habit of assuming things about what coders and code can do. I don't put it past her, a lot of people do this, but I start getting more and more restrictive in how I address such people as time progresses. I imagine this is what Soundscopes felt. Hmmmmm.

The very simple fact is that Nanako and I appear to have personalities that generate a lot of aggressive looking arguments. (Maybe because we're both one or another form of self-righteous folk who believe they're right until absoloutely and utterly proven wrong.) In fact, we discussed this off-handedly recently on OOC. Someone commented that we seem to get into verbal spats quite regularly. She said that she doesn't mind, and I don't really mind either. I'm actually kinda curious as to what Nanako thinks of this.

Note that there are only 2 people for whom I lack respect, for very specific reasons, and they aren't around. I simply tend to get aggressive if not overzealous in certain arguments. As necessary, I will police myself, and apologize for the mistake.

It's not even just you, Skull. You were what sparked my "what the hell is going on" but honestly it's not just you. I spoke to Gollee about names and you can speak with them about it if you desire to amend the situation. It's not just you, and it's a collective of the community dwindling and picking out people who their personalities grate with. And grate and grate and they yell and bitch at each other and I'm not even going to be proper in my argument anymore this is just.. it's ridiculous. It really is.

People getting sassed or antagonized and it's played off as a joke and nobody thinks anything of it, everything's just a joke or an issue not worth bothering with and when anyone brings it to light in the complaints section it fucking explodes.

It's getting ridiculous. The only reason I called you out was because it was disheartening to see you get snappy, as it just.. made me pessimistic about the standard people are held to. Is that fair to say? No, probably not. But when even staff are involved in the antagonism (and I have listed names to Gollee of those I have found to be bothersome) it makes me lose a bit of hope for the community treating each other like people instead of idiots.

Now. I've aware that small part of your community consists of autistic three wheeled cars, but that has very little to do with anything now does it? Maybe, maybe not. This is an RP game. If you really cant saperate criticism of your characters from criticism to your person you have little business playing video games that are immersive as this. You are bound to get and take unbased, unfair criticism and beat yourself over it. It is not healthy.

She took it in stride and I hope she improves, but it doesn't seem like she can catch a break anywhere. I can't speak for her nor will I claim to know what her current reaction to any of this is. But. It's just this cycle. The complaints section is unsurprisingly just full of so much salt between the community and the salt spills over here or there and there's players who have no respect for others. It took me asking Gollee to talk to you for you to take this seriously and quit joking around and you're not the only one who acts like that.

To sum up my point and I hope you bothered to read any of this but I'm just tired of a continuing cycle of people being just complete dicks to people who aren't even in their friend circle and just mouthing off "'s just a joke bro" in whatever variation they prefer.

I don't know what staff standards are but I expect staff to act more mature than antagonizing people for the sake of a joke. So forgive me if these are unrealistic desires, but I've had it and now I want to do something instead of pretend it's fine.

I don't want a hug box. I want people to grow up and act like something other than a parrot that spouts off insults every chance it gets like all its friends. I don't think that's unreasonable.

I have to admit, I'm mostly serious when I say lesbay characters are trash.

Your real life is a totally valid thing and you can be who you want to be in it, but to create characters on a game that I play and having them be as (no offense to the players) cancerous as a lot of these lesbay characters are and demand that everyone has an obligation to hug you for your trashy characters is ridiculous.

People can call their blushing stuttering rebel without a cause ex-military 17 year old nurses with white hair and japanese names ANYTHING they want. But I know them for what they truly are, and that's usually ERP bait, attention bait, or some other form of perverse degenerate gratification.

It doesn't belong on Aurora, period.

Absolutely. However most of this is something that's always been around, even when I was a new player two years ago. It's just something you have to get used to. That shouldn't be hard if you enjoy the server so much that you'll sustain sarcastic ball busting at this intensity just to play here.

 

And, Hivefleet? Decorum and tact are great virtues.

 

Fighting tastefully is only a virtue when the enemy has such. The degeneracy knows no bounds.

It's poor form to join a game of tag for a few rounds and then try and change the rules to suit you at cost to everyone playing before you. This applies to communities too if you follow. Try to understand this is all just banter. If you actually get offended then please do contact a mod (don't do a player complaint, christ that would a shit show on all sides) and they'll sort it out. They're cool guys.

The issue is the adamant stance that you and others seem to have in that it's necessary to continue to laugh and joke about this in a constant loop, over and over again. Like its the most hilarious thing to diminish someone else's character because they don't meet your standards of being someone bland or so absurdly unique they don't fit into any niche you have. It's fine to have expectations and standards but it's cruel to harass people for fitting any narrative that you and your pals set as worthy of being criticized.

Frankly, trivializing a sexuality isn't going to make anything better. Trivializing characters and pretending they're the most cliche thing to happen isn't going to make anything better. Trivializing the reactions people have to your constant critiques or insults won't improve anything either. Rather, your insistence on maintaining your narrative of "oh they're gay characters they're just lesbay lol" or "oh they're shy lol so cliche". And goodness I'm not even exaggerating because you poked fun at a new player on the forums, and I assume the possibility that you're not chum and buddy with them?

And that's the thing. You do this to everyone.

You don't joke with your pals and laugh by yourselves. You target others and mock or scorn them and get your laughs from continuing your complete stereotyping of a sexuality based on some bizarre belief of a very specific fallacy of a character. And frankly that doesn't fly with me and I doubt people outside of your circle find it as hilarious to hear your ramblings about lesbay.
