Staying on Station

Not sure if lore or general question so feel free to move:

During a transfer call is it reasonable to remain on station? Perhaps some characters are assigned to the Aurora for a few days instead of a 'shift'?

Would explain the dorms, showers and bar no?

It's only a shift-change, staying around for another shift or overtime isn't a completely unreasonable concept, especially for a facility that seems built to be operated 24/7.

Crew transfers mainly consist of people who want to leave work early like the lazy bums they are or transferring out prisoners that are marked as (Hold until transfer) to take them to the detainment facility on Odin to be given to the authorities. Which the security officers who do want to come back after the shift will easily hop on the shuttle bound to the station

People can stay if they want, It's probably encouraged, Especially if you're valuable, like science, security, engineering or medical. You'll have a fresh batch of crew coming in sometime later to help fill the void.

Working off of what Carver said, The station is completely decked out to support spessmen who want to continue working hard, being provided the kitchen, dorm, vending machines for snacks and the showers, even the laundry room too. Give you that home away from home (Where all the fresh ERP is at.) feeling while providing the spessmen the basic needs to be happy.

If the station is fucked but someone a crew transfer is called? Well. That's something I am unable to explain.

Why so many people leave on a crew transfer? The world may never know.

The question would be easily answered if the station wasn't reset every round. All the modifications, item creation and such would be there for the next round of players who 'chose to stay on' and those who decided to change characters. Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way to do this, and too many people would end up complaining about how everything's already done and there's nothing to do instead of creating situations for roleplay that could further expand their characters.

RP, especially Heavy RP, isn't just about one off stories or events. Roleplay exists to generate a story for a character, one that's consistent and rich with history. If you're creating a character for one-off repeats of the same day over and over again, go watch Groundhog Day and spare us.

Personally, I'd love to see a way to transfer map changes over for specific rounds (until the station gets inevitably destroyed beyond repair). That would make the world more in-depth and immersive, instead of the constant 'resets'. It would also kill off a lot of the drama stemming from "We want the round to continue!" vs. "We need a new round!", in my personal opinion. Obviously, full world resets would be needed from time to time (in the event of MalfAI going Delta or the like)...but there's nothing that can be destroyed in-game that can't be rebuilt from the ground up (with maybe the exception of the medical scanner beds and certain specific machinery, to my knowledge). Why not spend a round putting the station back together after a massive Syndie attack?

Probably because such would need to be canon.

While I would like to see this in some form or other, even though it's not the sort of thing to happen, the primary issue is that something punched a big hole in the station from last shift, and unless we make the endless barrage of xenos and pirates canon, there's not really much explanation for it.

I play a character that arrives onto the station on a set-weekly basis. He goes to cryo every shift at the end and wakes up for the next one at the start. At the end of his week, he goes home for a few days. Rinse and repeat.

This is the answer. The large quantity f antagonist rounds we have produce non-cannon events for the station. If a wizard blows up the station, you can have a conversation you had with a friend remain cannon, but the shift as a whole is not.

there's also been explanations for why research resets and the like, it's because you're not gaining new research as much as proving the repetitive nature of the analytical data. Most of what we research exists in a solid enough of a form that it would be impossible for us to say we are discovering it for the first time.
