K0NFL1QT
Just recently got ported to Steam, and anyone who bought it from the developers website can get a steam key emailed to them so that the game and all future updates are managed by the Steam service. I know some of you have it, and are playing it. What do you think? Feel free to share tips or stories, and recommend mods. Haven't touched it for a few months myself but I'll be starting a fresh game once my mods are sorted. First mod recommendation is the practically essential 'Prepare Carefully'. It's apparently been updated to 0.14, but it's not on the Workshop. Simply put, it gives you more control over your starting batch of colonists so you can get off to a comfortable beginning without hours of random re-rolling. You can customize appearances, set traits, set backgrounds and skills. I started a game with it last night and had no game breaking issues. https://github.com/edbmods/EdBPrepareCarefully/releases/tag/v0.14.0.2 I also highly recommend 'Expanded Prosthetics and Organ Engineering'. It introduces cool new research features, lets you grow synthetic organs for implantation as well as a heap of cool bionics, with stat bonuses. This is for people and not animals though, so no cyberdogs with this one. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=725956940 This one is also promising; it supposedly lets you reconfigure some of the colonists who join you. I haven't gotten to testing it yet though. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=727626696 Quote Link to comment
Taintedglory
I mean, it seems alright, but It just seems so feature lite that I cant play it right now. Quote Link to comment
Dreamix
https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=12996.0 ^^^ This. Around a month or two ago I started playing this game again. I went the easy-route and just installed a modpack with the largest amount of mods. In short, it was fun. Lots of funs. Through, insane amount of workbenches was needed to be built and had (our maybe I just dislike it? ). Also, I had to disable the seeds mod for my own enjoyment of the game. Too hard with that one enabled. I got wind generators and lights in the beginning of second year. And I was cheating a bit, by deleting any predators arriving (fucking dinosaurs) and aliens. I'd rather not have my colony destroyed in 5 seconds because of some bullshitu overpowered invaders. After all, I want to create a story, not die a hundred times. Overall, it's pretty hardcore. I somehow survived my entire first winter by eating any "prey" killed by "predators". That was pretty disgusting for my poor colonists. Quote Link to comment

Dreamix
(...) Remember, you will never starve as long as you still have two colonists. Is this a joke about cannibalism or an actual tip? Because, well, more people usually means greater chance of survival in the long term. Quote Link to comment

Because, well, more people usually means greater chance of survival in the long term. It's an actual tip, cannibalism is quite viable. The meat and leather are also very much profitable. canon35
In the grim darkness of the 5th millennium, there is only alpacas throwing up near small towns. Quote Link to comment

There is a lot there, especially now that it's out on STEAM and with workshop support. We should start a thread up for people to submit their character for the Prepare Carefully mod and have a bit Aurora colony and see who lives and who dies. Quote Link to comment
DatBerry
I started a colony before with aurora staff. A lot of noteable things happened. Nursie dated garn but cheated on him for him alb, then alb broke up with her, garns had many a meltdowns and started two fights with some local cows, he lost both, pump and mofo got married Quote Link to comment
nicemoreoften
Why play this instead of DF? Quote Link to comment
Guest Complete Garbage
Why play this instead of DF? It's somewhat simpler, quite a bit more graphically pleasing, and it takes place in spess. Also, there's a Syndicate mod for it out on Workshop now. Quote Link to comment
Absynth
This game is better than Dwarf Fortress. Yeah, I said it. I played DF since pre-Boatmurdered, something like 18 damn years ago, and have played every version since. I never use graphics packs, only ascii, and I've had a lot of neat stories come out of the game. However, Rimworld is much, much more accessible, the GUI is infinitely better, the game is far more intuitive in basically every system it uses, and it still has the DF-y 'feel' to it that only this specific niche of game can provide. You can never have enough chickens Quote Link to comment
