Species you are applying to play:Skrell

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: I'd like to open another avenue in which I can play on this station and immerse myself with the lore. The history behind the skrell, their biology, their way of speech, the naming system ((Thanks Owen)), their resistance to something that could've ended them if it wished to and then rebuilding effort. They went to the top and fell, but that didn't stop them and so they've climbing the stairs again through from what I can assume is their collective nature. I feel like I would thoroughly enjoy this along with the countless opportunities they present in within the lore setting that we have for this server.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I feel like I've answered this partially in the other question, but I'll try to give different points. The Skrell biological nature is different from the humans, in the terms they are aquatic, this provides them with the ability to not require oxygen while swimming, as stated in their lore, which allows them to have underwater cities which they inhabit. Furthermore, their physiology differs from humans in the way to reproduce, which is put simply, done through eggs. Another point is their age, where the Skrell are able to live longer than 400 years, thanks to current technology, which compared to a Human, is an extremely large lifespan. Language, speech, their mannerism, while more done by older Skrell rather than the young, shows a habit of Skrell being more direct when speaking, shorter sentences while removing any "extras" that serve no further functions in the conversation.

Where the Humans have not suffered a civilization altering event, the Skrell have. As I've stated earlier, the Skrell were knocked down and are trying to climb, to recover. They as a species have been sterilized and their technology essentially requiring to be almost re-invented or done without the usage of artificial intelligence or synthetics. Arguably, The Glorsh incident could potentially be considered the focal point of the Skrellian history, possibly more so than their space age. In the modern age of "2458", Skrells are still paranoid about the notion of AI, where they see the humans expanding like they have centuries ago, they view this as a repeat of what has happened to them and may lead to disaster.

Character Name:Ghoasim-Edrine Qe'liis

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Ghoasim-Edrine Qe'liis, son of Qe and Liis, born on Jargon IV in the city of Gli'morr, in the year of 2,313. Ghoasim, an only child, was born to two Physicists, both of whom were alive during the Glorsh Rebellion, an event that has scarred the entirety of the Skrellian race. His parent had placed high hopes on him, pushing him to enroll in the Gli'morr City University, with him being the only child, they placed many expectations on him, pushing him to pursue his education a high and good standards. Ghoasim had with the support of his parents had concluded his education with what has later been accredited by Human Institutions as an equivalent as a PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, which he would go on and work with the Gli'morr city government in ensuring public transportation logistics would work optimally.

In the year 2413, first contact was established with Humans, something that brought joy to the Skrell, Ghoasim included. With the new relations with the Human race, came many opportunities, some of whom were thought of and explored by Ghoasim, but none of them were done, since he felt an obligation and a connection to his parents, whom he adopted to his name. His life had generally been uneventful, he had grown up, pursued his education and had a respectable job, but for Ghoasim, this would change in the year 2420, the year his father would die at the age of 371 which followed by his mother at the year of 2424 would die at the age of 368, these two events would be a turning point to his life. He had always looked to the horizons, especially when both Humans and the Skrell have established their relations, with many of his race moving to Human controlled space to document, experience, to study or many other things, he had decided that with very little left for him, that instead of simply thinking and looking, he would move towards it. A week after his mothers death, with all affairs concluded, he was on his way to the Republic of Elyra, a fairly new entity, where he would be working at one of the many mining outposts dotting Edirne, a place he had Incorporated to his name.

Life had now for Ghoasim a multitude of possibilities, each of them fresh and novel. Humans were an interesting race, especially the people of Elyra, as they only represent only a portion of the multiple cultures currently existing from Earth, before they expanded into the stars. He found himself changing certain aspects of his interaction, as dealing with Humans was vastly different than dealing with Skrell. When he was not working on a mining outpost, he would be visiting any of the large urban centers or rural areas, taking in all the new things he found and learned. His wanderlust was only sated for a period of time, before he started looking to the horizon again, with the discovery of new species, he felt that his time in Elyra while being a pleasure, was at an end, and so by 2447, his employment contract was signed with Nanotrasen and assigned to the NSS Exodus as a Quartermaster running over the logistical nature of the station, such as both the import needs of the station to the export capabilities of it. By 2457, his employment status was elevated to that of human resources, as a Head of Personnel overseeing employment matters of the crew and dealing with both the supply and service sections of the NSS Exodus.

What do you like about this character? I feel like he would be an exceptionally hard working person, but instead of being by the book and looking for the most efficient way, he would be more understanding of the people he works for and oversees, understanding that they are different from him and the Skrell, and that those qualities should be cultivated to improve upon his work and those he works with.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? While I would rate my ability to roleplay to be around 6-7/10, I feel like this question should mostly be answered by the feedback provided in the comments.

Aobshe seems to have a good understanding of the race and I saw nothing wrong with his backstory. I enjoy interacting with all of his other characters and the player is definitely capable of playing skrell respectably. I'm very excited at the aspect of having even more squish HoPs but hopefully this one doesn't start swooning for the bald janitor as well. +1

Aboshehab roleplays great characters and can be fully trusted with this whitelist. They understand the lore from what I was able to tell when having conversations with them about it. I like their backstory about the Skrell. Definitely supporting this whitelist. May the warbles accept your poor soul.

I know Abosh, great roleplayer, capable story teller and a good player too.

Although some questions, I know this is a played out question but what about some of the Synths? How does he feel about them?

Hatred, Love, Neutrality, I think giving us a few lines about that would give him a bit more depth since y'know the synthetic uprising was like the centerpiece of Skrell history.

Otherwise no complaint or questions, also appreciate you made something else than a Scientist/Medical skrell.

+1 from me

Appreciate that you've posted a comment, but regarding your questions. Generally when it comes to my characters, I like to keep them a closed book as opposed to an open book, I prefer to have it in a way that people are interested with any of my characters or want to find out, they can do so within an IC context, as opposed to reading an obscure paragraph that shows everything about their lives. You're free to ask me these questions if we meet in game or if Loow requires it, otherwise I prefer to keep some information a mystery.

Reading the app makes me feel like you took the time to make someone who is believable while being faithful to what lore is there. While I can't speak from experience in terms of Skrell specifically, the information and your motivations seem well-reasoned and thoughtful. What you mentioned about why you want to play the species - how they are rebuilding from an event that effectively ended their society - is something I also find to be one of its most interesting bits of history. While it seems like several races in the lore have gone through recent or unprecedented upheaval, Skrell definitely win the prize for the most traumatic experience as a civilization, and also for coming out of it on top again.

As for you, the player, you're all-around good! I enjoy interactions with Ahmad and Pioneer, and I observe Raymond in enough rounds to feel like I have a good sense of your writing style. You treat the setting and your fellow players with respect, and I feel like you'd be at home playing any species. Here's to hoping you're warbling soon.

I have a wonder about the character's nature - he certainly seems to have a wanderlust, and a desire to immerse himself in the wider world. Was he somehow compelled to put that on hold when he decided to work for NanoTrasen for a decade, or is that simply not a lot of time to someone with such a long lifespan? Was there something about the human career arc or corporate employment that particularly interested him?

Aboshebab is a cool cat.

He already has an IPC whitelist which should show his grasp of lore with the species in Aurora lore. As for the Skrellian character itself, I enjoy the given backstory, and Abo's preference of more detail being revealed through character interaction.

Not only has the applicant asked for feedback, he gave a general idea of what he had questions about. Not a bad example to follow.

First off, your answers to the first few questions show a level of critical thinking that says to me, "Hey! I've read up a bit and formed some opinions on this stuff." Always a nice thing.

Ghoasim seems like a genuinely interesting character, and you've used his story to hit on a few themes that I don't normally see with our on-station Skrell. There are a few hooks that really stand out in this backstory as making the character stand out from previous applications (that I can remember).

-Parents who "were there" passing on (presumably due to age) in their late 300's.

-Taking a risk by throwing in a name of Human origin into the mix as his chosen name addition.

-Giving a backstory that involves extended time on the Human planet of Elyra.

The story's a fun read to think about, but it's not just because of those facets of the story alone.

The way you've chosen to portray this information tells the story of an individual striking out on their own and taking risks to find new experiences. Your application does all I could ask for it to do. You've shown your area of interest regarding this species, you've written a character that very clearly has some thought and heart put into it, and I at least get the impression that you enjoyed writing it.

Not to mention, you've shown a bit of spine in your polite responses to feedback.

There's nothing necessarily forcing you to reveal anything about your character that you don't want to. At the same time, cats are curious and sometimes we can't help but ask what's on our mind.

That said, you have quite a notable pile of feedback here to work with. A ruling will no doubt be coming in the future, but you've got plenty of time now to respond to any comments you choose.

Who knows? Maybe you'll get some more interesting conversation out of the extra time this app is open. If not, well I'll just have to provide some when I make the final judgement on this app.

First of, I'd like to thank everyone that's taken the time to post on this application, your feedback is extremely appreciated. I'm also more than happy to to answer any of your questions, which may vary from detailed, to vague to explaining the nature of why I'd like to keep it a bit of a mystery.

Wanderlust to me or at least Ghoasim-Edrine Qe'liis is not limited by staying in a place for long period of times. While he was working aboard Edirne, he was still able to visit "place" that I'd rather not include, for the same reason I did not provide an answer to Coalf. So the same could be said here, Ghoasim-Edrine Qe'liis felt that while he enjoyed his time, he felt that he could explore and learn more, and what better place as diverse as Tau Ceti, while he feels the need to use his abilities for a purpose, the job also acts as a way to allow him to pursue his hobby so to speak, it's also a bit why he picked this kind of work and it's location, what better way to pursue his hobby while providing the means of his hobby, he can still learn and explore while doing his job.

-Giving a backstory that involves extended time on the Human planet of Elyra.

Just a minor detail to avoid confusion. Elyra is not the name of the planet but rather the nation, which is called Republic of Elyra, the planet itself which is part of the namesake is Edirne.

We have quite a bit of feedback on this application, so let's move right along.

Ghoasim-Edrine is an interesting character who is clearly not afraid to step out of his comfort zone to see what the universe has to offer. You've done your homework and thought out the character quite a bit. What's more, you're passionate about the design and feedback suggests that you're pretty capable.

Alright. We'll just have to see how things develop from here.

Let's watch as Qe'liis explores a new workplace.

Application Accepted.
