Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 (edited) Background During an antag round about ~1 week ago, I had Houssam siphon 150k from the station accounts, withdraw 100k and long story short he walked out with 50k credits with all the blame pinned on someone else. (I was investigated IC'ly for it for ages too, which was nerve-wracking, but I covered my tracks well save the small clues I laid around for security.) I decided to make that event canon, and since then sort of stumbled into making the Jawdats a mafyia family, and decided to just roll with it. Houssam spent 20k to purchase his sister, Buthaynah, a new life. (Long story short for that: She participated in the revolt during the cat-event, and was framed for killing a police officer as a form of NT taking Houssam's loyalty hostage.) The rest of the money is being invested, and Houssam has decided to do two things: 1) Ensure the continued survival and safety of the Jawdat family. 2) Ensure financial security for the Jawdat family. To do this, he has abandoned his plans (dream, almost) of joining the ranks of CCIA to avoid the loyalty implants, and has started using his mild influence and allies to slowly build up a small-scale white collar crime ring. He has a few retainers, and by his relationship with Nur he has the Volkov brothers on his side as well. Almost all of this spawned from IC events, and post-round conversations about what the characters do once they leave Odin. Details https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zgYCx3Uv_7IoNfiZeB6bNfV1WFdP1Nqtf-o-o2U719o/edit This has been fun, so far. Houssam is having to balance the slowly growing levels of violence necessary to achieve his two goals (as is inherent in such a business) with the desire to remain as non-violent as possible. (Also Ahdomai is a stalin-state with an active revolt on slow burn, so muscle is necessary to keep his stuff and relatives safe there.) I decided to include others in the fun on the actual Jawdat family - there's three direct relatives, and an assumed large group of cousins with a handful of those being important/loved/stupid enough to benefit or need some ties to the Family. What this would entail, IC, is basically small-scale corruption where acceptable. Friends with the family? No paperwork! Free drinks! A trusted friend! Guaranteed protection, be it legal or physical! Not only that, but get paid for your extra work off the books! Heck, maybe a few gifts just to show how much the Family appreciates you! Jawdat family rules For peeps who play Jawdats themselves, this would be the same. If you want to be a Jawdat, lemme know in a post here. You just gotta know these things: 1) No matter how much you fight or disagree, family is the most important thing. Honour is an extremely close second. 2) Jawdats frown upon dating other species. It's tolerated, but expect to be one of 'those' relatives. 3) Throwing "Do you know who my [x] is?" is stupid, and risks everyone for your ego. You'd get smacked aside the head at best or disowned at worst. We have people in our pockets, and they remain in our pockets because their loyalty to us doesn't risk their careers by being namedropped by every drunk Jawdat arrested for bashing in a man's face. 4) People who work for us do it because Jawdats are known to pay well and be trustworthy when it counts. You can be an asshole relative, but show respect to the retainers. Feel free to be total bitches to unimportant plebs, though. 5) No excessive violence (in canon rounds). We have the Volkov Brothers and other retainers to get their hands dirty. Houssam/Integra's power is enough to smudge a few records here and there or turn a judge, but if you act like Vittorio expect little to be done to help you. (TL;DR don't be a snowflake, that's no fun for anyone) And IDK what else. Tytos, you've watched The Godfather a bunch. Ideas? Edited December 9, 2014 by Marlon Phoenix Quote
Susan Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 A Tajaran mob family. Gr8. This is my fault. AND IT IS BY MY HAND YOU SHALL BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE. I AM THE LAW. Quote
Guest Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Try looking at the Great Dunmeri Houses or the Camonna Tong from TES for inspiration. There's a lot of material that involves the familial bond between members and a more criminal syndicate-y feel to it. Quote

LetzShake Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I'd love to play at least one of the Jawdats. Maybe more than one if allowed and feel inspired to make another. I'll do a write-up for the character soon as I can and send it to you for review. This idea is really cool. Quote
firstact Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I think it'd be pretty fun to play as one of the Jawdats or an associate of them. Doesnt matter what Quote

Kiwidaninja Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Could Mansoor be a retainer for the Jawdats? Nurse/medic, obviously. Quote
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Could Mansoor be a retainer for the Jawdats? Nurse/medic, obviously. Really? He doesn't seem like the type to be a retainer. That implies he does illegal things, and pushes the agenda of the family. He's already a friend to Buthaynah, and is on the good side of the Family, so can rely on them helping him out where possible, but I don't see them having any reason to drop credits on a scaredy cat with a heart of gold. (I say this with love, I like Mansoor) Quote
hivefleetchicken Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 The Volkovs are their mercenaries. Quote
Kiwidaninja Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Ah, that makes sense. Mansoor just doesnt do illegal things. Quote

Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Dagnabbit jackboot! I was gonna do a family thing, but now I'll just look like a copy(if you'll pardon the pun)cat! Do it. We can have some animosity, then when your Family holds an IC wedding all the Jawdats show up in Durands with reinforced steel fedoras and weilding giant laser tommy guns are like "The Jawdats send their regahds" and just murder everyone. Guest Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Well, this isn't the kind of family that has big wedding affairs. More the kind where the father is an abusive, rich asshole, and the sons are all special snowflakes. Or dead. Edit: (Insert name here) Jawdat struggled against the ropes that bound his hands, trying to cut through them with his claws. His struggles were cut short by a blow to the back of the head. A large man with a shiny bald head walked around the chair, laughing cruelly. He spoke with a thick accent, "Maybe next time yous cats won't be messings around in our turf." (Insert name here) hissed angrily, "Who are you? We kill you!" The bald man slowly pulled a revolver from the confines of his trenchcoat, "The Smarks send their regards back," *BLAM* Quote

Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 while fun and all is, well, fun, and should be encouraged, why are we trying to legitimize criminal organizations within a workplace? Unless someone is doing something wrong while being a retainer for the jawdats or Buthaynah's behaviour has been misinterpreted (im changing it anyway) the Jawdats and associated don't legitimize criminal behaviour. The only canon things that the meowfia has done, AFAIK, is threaten a few people for being dicks to one of the family or friends. Quote

the_furry Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Random thought. What we need is a lizard mafia or another mafia as well so we can have some fight against the jawdat family. I mean you have so many retainers to protect interests but very little to protect interests from. W could get turf wars going where the jawdat family has most of security and another family have engineering or science. I think it would make for interesting interactions Quote
