Character Name(s): Caleb Greene, Tyler Kemple, Deangelo Simspon

AI Name(s):Don't really play AI

Preferred means of contact: Skype, Steam

Age:18

Timezone:Eastern

When are you on Aurora?: Twelve PM to two most days, and later around eight to three AM

Experience

How long have you played SS13?:Nearly two years.

How long have you played on Aurora: Just as long

How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I have a fairly good understanding of every department, aside from engineering. I can't say I understand it well on the code level yet, but I'm getting there.

Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: None

Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Nope.

Personality

Why do you play SS13?:I play SS13 because I like to roleplay, and I like to write. I could write an essay on it but that's the gist of it.

Why do you play on Aurora?: I play Aurora because it has a community I like, and an environment that fosters interesting characters.

What do moderators do?: Moderators are responsible for maintaining the desired environment by enforcing the rules in a way that maximizes the fun the players have while minimizing detraction from the heavy RP setting.

What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: It means to be part of a team that has a shared responsibility of making the server a better place.

Why do you want to be a moderator?:I like this place, and I want to have the opportunity to be a good influence on it.

What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?:I have a good understanding of the rules and why we have them, and I like to think I have good judgement. I'm patient with other people.

How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?:I'm not fazed by much, but when I do get angry, it's usually at myself

Anything Else You Want to Add: (Do not put words here)

I have my own moral compass, and it's done well to keep me out of trouble, but it's never been explicitly scrutinized. I may initially make some bad calls, but I can easily adjust if it becomes necessary.

Here is Not Megatron's interview.

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:19 AM

Hey there! I'm contacting you about an interview over your mod app you made. Do you have time right now?

Not megatron - Today at 2:26 AM

I do

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:27 AM

Alright. So, I will ask you some questions that will be about what you would do in situations if you were a moderator.

If you have questions about what your are able to do or if you need clarification, feel free to ask.

Not megatron - Today at 2:28 AM

Alright

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:28 AM

Right, first question. A new player joins with the name, "Donald Trump", a bald 30 year old assistant. When examining their account, you see it is 1 day old. What do you do?

Not megatron - Today at 2:30 AM

Can a moderator change character names?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:31 AM

No, only admins can change names.

Not megatron - Today at 2:31 AM

Well, assuming there are admins online, I'd message the player and explain that we frown on reference names, and ask them what they'd like it changed to, and ask an admin to change their name to that

After that, just ghost after them for a while, and see what kind of hijinks they get up to.

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:33 AM

So, they are receptive to your messages, but can't think of a name themselves. What do you do then?

Not megatron - Today at 2:33 AM

Make a random name. Is this still under the assumption that admins are online?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:34 AM

Remember that admins can also be pinged by discord, so you can always assume an admin is online or available in these situations.

Not megatron - Today at 2:34 AM

Alright. Then yeah. Pick a random name.

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:35 AM

I see. Next question. You're just minding your own business on server, when suddenly you receive an ahelp from a player that has been permabrigged for no reason. What do you do?

Not megatron - Today at 2:36 AM

Can mods view logs?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:36 AM

Generally not. Mods can see attack logs, however.

Not megatron - Today at 2:37 AM

Alright. I'll ask them for details/players involved. While they're explaining, I'll scroll up to see if there are any attack logs they may have been arrested for

Then I'll talk to whoever they named, ask them the same questions.

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:39 AM

It turns out that the officer that arrested them did it on valid grounds, but the warden permabrigged them for no other reason than that they thought they had to while they didn't. What will you do?

Not megatron - Today at 2:39 AM

As in, the warden misunderstood the proper sentences?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:39 AM

Yes, the warden just put them in permabrig because they thought they had to on arrest.

Not megatron - Today at 2:41 AM

That just sounds like a poor understanding of the role. I'd message the warden and explain to them that permabrig isn't the default punishment, and ask them to read a little more on proper security procedure.

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:42 AM

What do you do with the permabrigged player?

Not megatron - Today at 2:43 AM

I tell them that I spoke to the officers involved.

I'd have told the warden that the character shouldn't be permabrigged, so I'm assuming they'd be released.

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:46 AM

Alright. Next question. You're in the character setup, working on some records and appearances, when suddenly a whole lot of attack logs between the same players pop up. You recognize one to be a regular player, and the other as not new but you don't know them very well. They were attacking eachother with lethal weapons, but you don't have much other information. There are no other mods or admins online. What do you do?

Not megatron - Today at 2:46 AM

Can moderators heal people?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:47 AM

No.

Not megatron - Today at 2:47 AM

Can they freeze?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:47 AM

Yes, mods can wind people.

Not megatron - Today at 2:48 AM

Can they easily see if a character is an antagonist?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:48 AM

Yes.

None of them are an antagonist.

Not megatron - Today at 2:49 AM

Did the logs show any sign of escalation? Punches, then someone pulled a knife, etc?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:50 AM

No, it went from nothing to straight up lethals.

Not megatron - Today at 2:50 AM

I ghost over to see what's going on- where are they, who else is around, etc

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:51 AM

They started fighting in a semi-crowded bar.

Not megatron - Today at 2:52 AM

Am I allowed to ask you etiquette type questions?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 2:52 AM

What do you mean by that?

If you mean you want to ask how you are supposed to handle something, no, not really. This interview is based on how you would do it, I can't tell you how.

Not megatron - Today at 2:56 AM

Right, okay

If they aren't severely injured, I'll message them both and ask them what's going on. If they're both half dead, I'll wait for it to play out, and ask questions afterwards

I might message a bystander as well to confirm the story, in case they're metabuddying

Tricking Trapster - Today at 3:00 AM

So what happened was, they had a long standing grudge spanning several rounds ICly. OOCly there was nothing wrong, and they decided that they would have a duel to the death IC, with escalation going on over several rounds. What do you tell them?

Not megatron - Today at 3:02 AM

Well

I'd suggest the holodeck for future Death Duels, and tell them to have a nice day. If it sounds believable, that is. If it sounds sketchy, I'd probably investigate a little more thoroughly

Tricking Trapster - Today at 3:06 AM

Alright. Next question. You receive an ahelp about a player that you know well, but never had to deal with as a moderator. The player says the reported player is powergaming. When you check on them you see the player as a scientist, that made a gatling laser and is battling the full squadron of mercenaries, and winning. Two out of the four mercenaries are dead, the third is dying and the fourth was ahelping about the powergaming. What do you do?

Not megatron - Today at 3:07 AM

I check their records and skillset to see if they have anything justifying their badassery.

Tricking Trapster - Today at 3:08 AM

Their skills do not match any justification for ramboing the mercenaries, and neither do their records.

Not megatron - Today at 3:10 AM

I message the scientist and explain that their actions count as powergaming. Depending on their response, I might give them anything from a slap on a wrist to a short jobban.

After that, I message the merc that sent the ahelp and explain that the player has been spoken

Tricking Trapster - Today at 3:11 AM

Right then. Two more questions. You receive an ahelp, but it is claimed by an admin. You follow the proceedings, but don't agree with the judgement the admin makes. What do you do?

Not megatron - Today at 3:11 AM

Claimed?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 3:12 AM

When an ahelp appears, there is a dibs button. The first mod or admin to click the dibs button generally takes the ahelp.

Not megatron - Today at 3:13 AM

If it's a minor disagreement, I won't do anything. If it's something I feel really strongly about, I'll PM the admin in question, and ask to talk about the incident

Tricking Trapster - Today at 3:14 AM

There will be no need for PM, all mods and admins can see all PMs made.

Not megatron - Today at 3:14 AM

I mean on byond messenger, or maybe discord

Tricking Trapster - Today at 3:15 AM

Aha.

Not megatron - Today at 3:15 AM

If they're wrong, then I'd rather resolve it privately

If I'm wrong, well, the same

Tricking Trapster - Today at 3:15 AM

Right then, final question. Is there anything you would like to change about the server?

Not megatron - Today at 3:15 AM

On any level?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 3:15 AM

Yes, anything.

Not megatron - Today at 3:16 AM

I think there's a lot of poor cyborg roleplay, and I think there are too many memes IC.

Other than that, nothing

Tricking Trapster - Today at 3:17 AM

Alright. That concludes the interview then. Do you have issues with it being posted on your app?

Not megatron - Today at 3:17 AM

Will it be this entire conversation, or just your questions + my answers?

Tricking Trapster - Today at 3:18 AM

Pretty much the entire conversation.
