Ron Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 So I started working on some ninja updates because I and others feel like the game mode is kind of dry in terms of things you can do. Some ideas I've had. New ninja (hardsuit) modules like: A better ninja net. An EMP shielding module that consumes power when active. (Already in the code, just not active) An upgraded version of voice synthesizer that can actively block messages from a certain person but it consumes power while active. Maybe new hardsuits the ninja can pick that do different things? Kind of like the new wizard can pick a certain class. A combat strong power weak hardsuit/ power strong combat weaker hardsuit/ current balanced hardsuit. Allow you to customize your hardsuit with modules you want with different modules holding a certain power consumption depending on their power and you can only have X amount of power consumption before your suit can't handle it and you can't add more modules (something like this would be involve a bigger hardsuit change.) Things like grenade launcher would take up more power than say a voice synthesizer. I'm interested in ideas that would make ninja a better experience to play with and as.
Ornias Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 I strongly support this, even though it will take a lot of time and effort. The issue with gamemodes like ninja are that they're so restricting. With wizard, you can be practically anything you want. With traitor, you can be any kind of evil bastard you want to be. Hell, even with cult, you have a lot of tools at your disposal. With ninja, you're pretty much universally a fucking dickbag swordman obsessed with muh honor, who self destructs when security decides to try to steal the hardsuit because he keeps draining APCs. Different options would be fucking beautiful, specifically visually. The typical "black ninja suit" makes the antagonist look identical to all others - even wizard garbs have some kind of variety. Different culture inspirations - samurai, gladiator, that sort of thing, alongside more general options, combined with modern machinery would look fucking sick. Having a telecrystal-style hardsuit mount list would be beautiful as well - a very slow natural recharge rate for x telecrystals, an energy sword in the suit for y, an energy halberd for z, etc. Unfortunately, while Ninja is fucking godlike, the only way to make the most of that power is to absolutely cheese it and attack from the shadows. That's the point of a ninja. Unfortunately, this being a heavy RP server, that mentality is strongly disencouraged and makes the ninja practically useless and identical.
Arrow768 Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 Just saying: Actively Blocking Radio Transmissions from a certain person doesnt make sense for a client side device. Other than that it sounds interesting.

I can't make sprites to save my life.
JKJudgeX Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 I think the main problem with ninja is that it's a single-antag round type with no expansion options. Same problem for Wizard and malfAI, but wizard has more gimmicks available and the AI has borgs. So, maybe ninja could include more ninjas, or, maybe the ninja knows who the traitors are and has been sent to take them out or something? Out of all of the rounds I've played, and I've played a lot of SS13, I have never seen a single good round of ninja that was fun for anyone outside of the ninja and maybe 1 or 2 other players. I've seen quite a few interesting wizard and malf rounds, but never ninja. To be honest, I'd be happy if ninja was just out of the rotation, or if a ninja was just a type of traitor/random event that can spawn. It's a highly annoying antag type. I think its one that suffers especially from not having built in objectives, but, I think the objectives should be available (maybe optional, but available) to all antag types, tbh. It really does need help, I hope effective suggestions show up and are implemented.
TrickingTrapster Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Actually, ninja spawns with a contract uplink and can take contracts just like traitors can. If they get their hands on bluespace crystals, they can even order things just like traitors. But yes, like several other antag types, I do think ninja could use more roleplay and less combat tools.
Ron Posted March 10, 2017 Author Posted March 10, 2017 so far this Added a new ninja uplink. The uplink is a custom made one that can only view the special black market hard suit modules ICly. OOCly the ninja can only view the 1 category and buy from it. Other antag types do not have access to this category. I wanted the ninja player to have freedom in picking their modules, but I also wanted them to be able to acquire TC's and be able to spend it on things. If they do manage to get TC's they can upgrade their suit a good deal. (10 TC's is a good amount in this case.) New modules: Emergency Power generator - Gives 1k power with a 240 second cool down EMP shielding - enhances the users protection from EMP's with active power cost EMAG Hand- Lets the user apply their hands to objects to apply an EMAG effect. High power cost (1000). The reason it's this high is because it has unlimited uses and is pretty damn strong. Changes: Energy net got buffed. They have twice the health (they had dumb low health before) and the person who threw the net can tighten the net around the person who got caught in it, causing pain and small brute and burn damage. The energy net could be used to teleport people caught into it into a holding cell type place, but I don't know a good way to implement this and make it fair for the person who got caught and the ninja. I'm trying to think of new ideas for more modules.
