Reason for complaint: Had to change my main character's name (for no good reason)

Hello. I have a character named Ned Ed, I've used him for ages on this server and had no problem. Then a few days ago I was messaged by an admin (I forget his name, I think it began with an m) that my character Ned Ed's name was violating the server rules because "it's a bit silly, don't you think?". I didn't want to complain or get banned so I just complied. But then I started to think about it and realized I should have fought for the name. No where in the rules does it show that the name Ned Ed violates anything. I've used the character for probably 2 or 3 years on this server and nobody ever messaged me that it violated any rule. I changed Ned Ed to Nedison Edwards and I HATE it. Ned and Ed are two very realistic names, I've seen much stranger names in real life. I apologize if I posted this on the wrong part of the forum, this is my first time in a long time using this forum but I only came here because an admin told me to discuss it in the forums.

The rule in question is as follows,

"Characters must be named following a Firstname Lastname model (e.g. "John Smith"). No honorifics, nicknames or middle names (with exceptions for compound names such as Van/Von/Bin X). Think of your in-game name as the name printed on your work ID. Exceptions are made to alien races with alternate naming mechanics, such as the Diona or IPCs, please consult their specific wiki pages for exact details. In general, avoid reference/famous/joke names, please."

Specifically rule 2 from "Creating Characters"

The name "Ned Ed" is silly simple as that, it migh be present in real life yet there are also 5 people named Zzyzx, 2 named Optimus Prime and atleast 3 Dragonborn's yet we still wouldn't allow those. The fact is Ned and Ed are bot short for Edward making the character Edward Edward.

You have a plethera of names you can use, plus the added abillity to make new names completely up such as, Nedison, which isn't an actual name.

How long a rule has been being broken for by somebody makes no difference on how we deal with it when we finally do deal with it. But lets go through fully what happened. When I first saw you come on as Ned Ed, I pointed it out in staffchat as I was somewhat unsure if we should allow it. We decided that no, it was a little too silly, so I first PM'd you and gave the reasoning that is was fairly silly, and not something we're looking for in the atmosphere we make on this server. You argued, but I stood my ground and made the decision, applied the note and left it at that. The argument that you've used the name for ages means nearly nothing, no staff on at the time had ever seen you before either IC or even OOC, and nobody came to your defense. So that was cleared, and I thought it done with for a good while. Then, a few days ago I believe, I come on the server to see Alberyk talking to you about the name Ned Ed, much to my surprise. Alberyk was not one of those admins present in the first incident, so we do now have 2 separate staff members talking to you about the same issue, and at the same time you decided to go against what I specifically told you to do at that earlier point; change your name. And this was a deliberate action to keep it from what I can tell. I'm sure that conversation with Alberyk is what sparked this complaint, and you did quite seemingly go directly against staff wishes. I'll see what Garn will decide on this, and Alberyk would do well to chime in as well, if possible.

The rule in question does not forbid a name such as "ned ed". The name is neither a reference or a famous name. It is also not a joke name as that classification is invoked for things like "mike hunt" and "semoure butts". You are permitted to use the the name "ned ed" as it is not against our rules. I am the first one to say the rules are more like "guidelines" than a law that must be followed to the letter. That being said there needs to be a rock solid defence when something is shot down that isn't against the rules. "its silly" i am afraid is not a convincing argument, I have spoken with them as well as many other staff members on discord and we are in agreement here.

I will leave this post up for about 24 hours and then will consider the matter resolved. That is unless the OP has anything further?

Hello Muncorn I apologize if I upset you, I wasn't trying to call you out or anything, I wasn't even complaining about you in general I was just trying to question how the name Ned Ed violates the rules. But first of all I question how I argued? Your reply is making it seem like I made it a huge deal. I remember the conversation pretty clearly. You asked me if we could chat and if I read the rules and I said yes, what's the issue? Then you told me my name Ned Ed violated the server rules and first I questioned but then I said I could change it because I figured the rules changed (I haven't been on Aurora since probably 2016). So the next round I asked an admin to change the name from Ned Ed to Nedison Edwards. So I don't understand why you said in your reply to me quote: "and at the same time you decided to go against what I specifically told you to do at that earlier point; change your name. And this was a deliberate action to keep it from what I can tell. I'm sure that conversation with Alberyk is what sparked this complaint, and you did quite seemingly go directly against staff wishes". I did not go against staff wishes for I DID indeed change the name without any trouble. It was only after I started to realize that I didn't understand why I had to change the name in the first place. So I admin helped hoping I could find a solution. The admin told me to bring it to the forums so I did. Btw Ned Ed's name is not a nickname. I never intended it to be a nickname. I hope I haven't angered anyone I just wanted to see if I could get his name changed back to Ned Ed because I like it better but if it's definitely a no I won't further the discussion I just wanted to attempt it.
