[Withdrawn] JMJ99 Head Of Staff Whitelist application

Recommended Posts

BYOND key:JMJ_99

Character names:Mika, Ashley Jaeger,(two others that are less than a week old so no point mentioning them)

How long have you been playing on Aurora?:5-6 months

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Promotion for head of staff is my next plan for Mika. I want the responsibility that comes with being a head.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I come from paradise, after about 18 months I eventually found the MRP chaos and furriness to be too fucking annoying and I wanted a better more realistic experience. I saw the “heavy RP” label on aurora one day and decided to join, instantly fell in love with how much better it is at absolutely everything and haven’t looked back.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay for me is being something that you could not be in real life. Putting yourself into a character and essentially being them in every sense of the word. While some say it’s something like improvisational story writing, which I don’t disagree with; I see it more as an opportunity to explore different scenarios and react to them as someone you are not.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: It is similar to the IC purpose. Keep your subordinates in check, making sure they arenot breaking regulations or SOP and punishing them in some form if they happen to do one of those things. A head also should delegate to their subordinates and not direct every move they should make or overstep them when not appropriate.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

Whitelisted players have an obligation to not abuse their privilege or powers to abuse other players. A head should also try to keep the round !fun! for the players under their command to the best of their abilities by the directing the round. A whitelisted player is also supposed to be a role model player and help new and old players the best they can.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name:Mika

Character age: 1 year old, but she’s an IPC so it’s not really relevant

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

((new stuff is bolded))

IPC shell frame designation "Mika" is a prototype shell developed by Hephaestus Industries. The plan to create a IPC that could look like a human and understand and emulate Human emotion at a advanced degree started in late 2457 with a deadline of two years for the prototype to be finished. The positron brain was developed by a team of researchers at the HRS Lemnos and her body outsourced to XION manufacturing group. Her positronic brain Incorporates heavily modified emotional emulation coding typically found in Personal AI personalities as well as experimental analysis software to give her the desired level of empathy. The experimental nature of the algorithms meant there were many issues getting the software integrated in a way that they would work together, often in early testing her personality would change wildly and would interpretation something said in a completely wrong way. This resulted majority of development spend on fixing this and not on other parts of the positronic brain.

When she was finished and activated in December 2458, researchers found in testing she was infact able to understand and simulate empathy to the level that was originally intended, the problem however came when testing for critically thinking and control over her shell, she failed all quality control standards in this regard and she was completely unable to act on her own accord. Prior to this point the shell and Brain had never been one in the same; The researchers concluded that the lack of attention given to other areas of her positronic brain were entirely to blame for this.

After experimentation was concluded, Mika remained on the Lemnos as Hephaestus property while the project was attempted to be salvaged. After several months of minor improvements. Hephaestus after learning everything they could from her, decided the profit lost on the failed prototype was too great and funding was cut for the project. The creators not willing to terminate her made a offer was put out for anyone willing to take Mika. Nanotrasen decided to accept the offer as firstly, a chance to finally gain a hold on the IPC market by combing the useful aspects of her programming with their own IPC products and secondly that they could use Mika for cheap employment. She was moved to accommodation on the NTCC Odin where her programming was downloaded and sent off for analysis. After this she was given several upgrades to make her employable. Firstly, she was given directives to deal with her inability to act, on her own, 1. When threatened in any degree, you are to escape and Hide until the threat has passed 2. You may only act in self-defence if you are unable to enact the first directive.

Next, she was given an upgrade to her positronic brain to enable to understand situations and make choices at a basic level that are not emotion based. This meant she was finally able to think for herself, even if it was difficult. Nanotrasen has recently promised her a position at the newly opened NSS Aurora and garmented that she will get regular upgrades to her software and hardware to improve her performance.

Choosing to join medical she began a residency intending to become a psychiatrist. While not receiving any payment, and being restricted to only Nanotrasen property, during this period, she learned a lot about how society functions and her place in it. After continued upgrades to her positronic she eventually had enough memory space to download procedures and knowledge required to become a nurse. After another increase to memory and upgrade to her logic processors and removal of her directives she gained the ability to become a full medical doctor on top of being qualified psychiatrist.

More recently she has been trying to find a private owner. She has attempted a several times to become interim CMO eager to gain experience, but has unfortunately been shut down due to discrimination or there not being an adequate reason for the promotion. Moreover, Nanotrasen has agreed to give Mika partial rights to herself, allowing her to be payed and the opportunity for further promotion

What do you like about this character?: I consider her my best character. She is easy and simple to roleplay as I can choose how human or synthetic I want her to act to something, while at the same time being complex enough to be interesting and fun to play.

What do you dislike about this character?: She often acts way too human; I try my hardest to make her reactions 99% of the time positive and keep her (“emotions”)™©® and my own Emotions from affecting my decisions but it can be difficult sometimes getting into the synthetic mindset. She can become too ugu kaiwaii which only gets reinforced the more people treat her like shes a meme character(she’s not)

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?:

She has very little motivation beyond doing and improving at her job and fitting in with humans as much as she can. I believe she can be developed to be a capable CMO.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:8/10 I have been playing ss13 for 2 years, 3 quarters of that on a MRP server. I believe I am constantly improving but I can tell that some of my interactions are weird or awkward. I need to work on my emoting but I believe I am capable enough at RPing now.

I don't feel Mika is Command material, if I saw her playing as Interim I'd watch and see how you handle it, if you can, and a lot of my interactions with Mika have been a bit off. I'm not sure if I should -1 this just yet, so I'll wait until I see you in the interim position.

To be honest, I wouldn't feel comfortable with Mika being a CMO.

The reason being that considering all my interactions with her (as Patient, as Co-worker, as someone technically lower ranking than her), I've gotten this impression that Mika's behavior and characterization are erratic and inconsistent. Sometimes it feels like I'm seeing Jaeger, other times feels like I'm seeing a child, then there's times where I just don't flat out know how Mika is supposed to truly be in the first place.

Another point that confuses me is the part where "[Mika] has very little motivation beyond keeping people happy and healthy." when, again, from my previous interactions with her, I've seen her wanting to not be bound to NanoTrasen anymore, to be viewed as something more human (and despising greatly being referred as Unit or Robot). This answer and my interactions with her do not seem to match. And I haven't felt like any interaction with her I've had implied her motivation to keep people happy, only healthy (and that could even be debated that it's only because she's bound to her job as a Medical Staff).

Unfortunately, I'm going to go with -1. There's an overall feeling about Mika that makes me extremely uneasy.

I agree with you, So I'll explain from my perspective. Jaeger is essentially my self insert; I am trying very hard to suppress this when I play Mika so it doesn't show. Mika is intended to be positive as much as possible which in sometimes comes out as childish. Her backstory makes it difficult to spin positively which is what can make it confusing and conflicting whenever I try to RP her backstory, I'm guessing this shows off as Jaeger.

Yes she wants to be freed from Nanotrasen but she doesn't want to be a freed synthetic. She wants is to fit in with Humans but is complacent with being synthetic, while around synthetics she acts more like one, but being called a Unit or Robot around Humans shatters that illusion for her. She wants a owner that will treat her properly unlike the previous corporate giants that have owned her. What I meant in this answer is that Her motivations are to do her job and not really anything else that would be problematic with a command position.

I'll be blunt - Mika isn't command material. At all. She has been seen throwing hissy fits by both me and other players. I've also seen her be downright insubordinate at times, which isn't something you want to see in a command member. Not only that, but her motivation is nothing to bolster. "She has very little motivation beyond keeping people healthy" sounds rather cliché and if she had no other motivations, wouldn't she be better off staying as a medical doctor? I also find it unlikely how Nanotrasen gave a random synthetic partial rights, but oh well.

Speaking of your roleplay, it needs work. I've seen you improve, but the extent of your roleplay so far hasn't been great. You've often let emotions affect your decisions while playing Mika, which isn't what should be happening. You've however said you're trying to improve, so I'll withhold my judgement there.

Lately I haven't seen you play much at all, so I'll refrain from saying anything else. Try to play more, unless you're not in my timezone and I'm missing something.

I'm going to go with a -1 right now, sorry. Mika isn't fit at all to be a command member, and your roleplaying needs work.

I am agreeing with Matt here, I've seen Mika throw hissy fits that seem to be driven by OOC frustration simply because they aren't sensible from an IC perspective. An IPC becoming ''frustrated'' is a peculiar thing to begin with. While they might emulate human behaviour they are still droids that in the end don't feel any emotion or stress, and shouldn't be influenced by them.

I'm also not particularly impressed by your medical roleplay, which is a fundamental part of being a CMO. I've been cloned by you as Mika where my post cloning talk was a single line stating ''You were cloned, you are alive'' before she ran off to do something else. If Mika is supposedly a certified psychiatrist ontop of being a medical doctor this is absolutely not how you should be handling a patient that might walk out and off themselves shortly after being cloned.

You also contradict yourself with stating that roleplay is about ''being something you could not be in real life'' then you state in a later reply that Jaeger is essentially your self insert. I am not a fan of self inserts in a whole as these players often have trouble seperating IC from OOC.

It is definitely a -1 from me until you improve your roleplay.
