b]BYOND Key:

Ben11567

Character Names:

John Jonas, Terry Johnston

Species you are applying to play:

Industrial Frame

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:[/b

]Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I want to play as this specific race because I feel it can lead to different and better roleplaying experiences then a human. I picked it over the other races available as it has a certain aspect that others don't. I picked the industrial frame because it seems best suited for security jobs that I play as the most. With its durable frame and strength it will be good for fighting crime and protecting the station. The Industrial Frame also has a certain look that I like.

So overall I want to play as an Industrial Frame IPC because it best suits my favourite jobs and also has a lot of possibilities for roleplaying.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

This species is different than role-playing a Human because of the possibilities it opens up. The IPC is stronger then most species, it doesn't need to eat or breathe. The ICP also doesn't feel pain and this cold lead to great roleplaying experiences as it try's to understand why humans feel pain, and what it means to truly be alive. The IPC could also be unforgiving and learn how to be forgiving and gentle.

Since the ICP doesn't need to breathe it can also lead to roleplaying experiences in EMT and Engineering as it's more suited for the hostile environments surrounding the station.

Character Name:

"Ratchet"

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Where Ratchet was first made is unknown. Ratchet was serving on a Nanotrasen vessel when the ship crashed. Parts of the vessel were scattered across the galaxy and Ratchet ended up on a small planet filled with scavengers. A young boy and his family found Ratchet and brought him back to their house. The boy, Elijah, named the IPC Ratchet. Over the years Ratchet proved useful to the family, he would help defend their home from other scavengers trying to raid them.

One morning a military vessel entered the atmosphere and a small shuttle came down to the families home. Ratchet has a tracking implant in him that was activated once he was fully repaired. The officer in the shuttle told the family that Ratchet was the key to finding out what happened before he crashed. Before Ratchet went Elijah gave him a small gear to remember him by. Once Ratchet had told the story of what happened he was then shipped off to work again, on the NSS Aurora.

What do you like about this character?

With this character there are many possibilities about what you can do in terms of role-play. Ratchet has a backstory that opens up possibilities for his job and how he acts around life.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

Very good

You want to use it for powergaming, you mean

Once Ratchet had told the story of what happened he was then shipped off to work again, on the NSS Aurora.

Your entire character background is built on this big mystery that "oh the NT vessel crashed mysteriously and Ratchet was the key to finding out what truly happened" and then once NT retrieves him it's just oh yeah so he tells them what happened and goes back to work. Its like you felt obliged to shoehorn in a generic Mysterious Past™ but you didn't know where to go with it so you just gave up and brushed it aside to get to the part where he of course goes right back to work on the Aurora after being retrieved

The vessel he was on was torn apart in space, enough for debris to be strewn across the galaxy. How was Ratchet not annihilated landing on the planet?

Who repaired Ratchet? The little boy? Seems like he'd be the one NT is concerned about hiring, not a disposable labor slave robot, considering he's a robotics wunderkind who repaired an android (that had to endure re-entry and crash landing) in a kind of environment where raider attacks are commonplace

Like what?

Well, you say that, but apparently not good enough to know not to play a character (Terry Johnston) as both a Detective and a Medical Doctor, or try to hassle the AI into letting you into the Captain's Office so you can take command of the station just because there were no heads present (again as a medical doctor, nonantag)

I think you got that bit wrong, I wasn’t trying to say that I would use it for power gaming, I really wasn’t. I don’t know where you got that from.

And in regards to bits of the story missing I thought it only had to be a short thing so I just left that bit out. If you want me to I can add in the extra bits like what happened on the vessel and why the gear was important to ratchet.

And you also asked me what I could do in terms of role play with ratchet (I thought I added that in but I never). With ratchet I could role play many things. Him trying to figure out what makes people “human”. Ratchet trying to adjust to his new workplace and the things around him. Maybe even ratchet dealing with abuse for being an IPC.

And finally I forgot to switch characters at the start of that round which is why I was still Terry

ben11567 Huge -1 from me. I can't support this application, the content is sub-par at best, the backstory leaves a lot to be desired, and it overall doesn't fit together well in my opinion.

My main gripe is the fact that your RP leaves a lot to be desired. I've seen John Jonas, as a non-antag, attempt vent half the construction level to murder the head of security and two officers, all over a demotion. You've shot up departures (as a non-antag again) over a neglect of duty charge, you can hardly perform your job, and you refuse to listen to advice. You're not ready to have a whitelist, but you're also not ready to play anything above cadet, yet you do.

Got to witness that demotion. He refused to hand over his satchel to the security staff assisting in the demotion and the HoP. Turns out he had his energy pistol and refused to turn it over, claiming it was his own, for personal protection.

Got to witness an incident in medical the other day where he was constantly spamming resist to get out of cuffs, during another demotion. Security had to dislocate his legs because of it.

You're not fit to be whitelisted for anything, I believe. You need to work on roleplaying and making a decent attempt at it, Ben.

Huge -1 here aswell.

Both characters you have listed are absolutely incompetent and always cause issues.

I just had to suspend Terry Johnston (Warden) because he flooded the brig with N2O.

You refused to hand over your gear and I had to get a security officer to remove it from you.

I remember another incident where your other char (jonas) has been demoted and thrown in the brig because they ran away, sparked a manhunt and I believe shot the HoS.

After being detained they beat themselves up with a mop in communal.

There is also the issue of your chars job hopping a lot. I have seen jonas as warden, doctor, officer, detective and I think a few other roles.

That is definitely not what behaviour that needs to be rewarded with a whitelist.

First of all when I was in the med bay I wasn't being demoted, the detective randomly cuffed me and the warden let me go.

Secondly the incidents you are describing are all the same.

And I released NO2 as the warden yes, but now I know what that valve does. And sure that whole thing with the "manhunt" when I was hiding in a coffin was bad but I spoke to admins about it and I've learnt from it. You guys have just seem bad pars of my role-play so let me show you good ones.

Here is a better backstory for Ratchet as well:

I never knew about the pain rules on the server when I beat myself with a mop.

And please stop mentioning the time when I shot the person

They are presenting feedback. Feedback can be both positive or negavtive to this application. It's optional for you to reply but ignoring it won't give this application much of a chance.

This player is undeserving of a whitelist for now. They're incompetent, lack any level of discipline when interacting with Security and Command. Until some major improvement is made I don't think you should even be considered for the whitelist. The Industrial Frame IPC plus your current attitude would be a large source of ahelps, I believe.

Ok, I know the time when I shot that person was bad, but I spoke to an admin about it and he said it was ok but pushing it a bit. And I know that's left you with the impression that I cant role-play but trust me I can. And I will defiantly be able to role play with the character of Ratchet.

My advice would be to work on playing without incident for a while, maybe focus on creating a normal human character with a stable use. Play that char for a while without incident and reapply after you figure out how to interact with others a bit better. Also you might want to think about using a normal ipc instead of the industrial, asking for an industrial security bot and the way the application is worded really sounds like you just want a guy to soak up more bullets before dying.

Guest Marlon Phoenix

Hello, sorry for the delay in your application.

It's generally not a standard custom for IPC's to have no idea where he was built. It is also a bit contradictory that his origins are a mystery while he is on NT records and given a tracking implant and important enough to go out and recover. None of our synthetic units are also able to survive an orbital re-entry, and only station-bound synthetics are EVA capable without modification or special suit coolers.

You also do not explain what Ratchet was built for or what department he would work in, or if he is a baseline, shell, or industrial.

If this application had positive feedback I would be willing to overlook these problems but unfortunately there is quite a bit of negative feedback here. I encourage you to spend more time playing in Aurora and acclimating yourself here and applying again in the future when you are ready.

Application declined.
