Eve
BYOND key: AlFalah Character names: Evangeline Du Dancion How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Around a month and a half.(?) Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I’ve been playing engineering for the moderate while of a month, and want to escalate my character to become a Chief Engineer. I’ve seen a lack of CE’s in my Euro timezone save Matt, and I think I am experienced now to fill in. I also really enjoy teaching new players, and accommodating them into engineering starting from apprenticeship. Why did you come to Aurora?: A friend brought me to SS13 around two months ago, and Aurora is the first proper server I’ve played on, and I really do enjoy it due to its roleplay, mechanics and its community. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Taking on a fictional character and acting them out. The characters are expected to have a solid, defining personality which’ll shape their behaviour, certain strengths and weaknesses to balance them. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Heads of Staff almost always are the ones who provide introduction to departments for new players. They are required to teach the mechanics, requirements and responsibilities of each ambition patiently. They are also tasked with making sure that their department members are not excluded from RP. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: They have power over the members of their department, and are important in terms of the events’ flow. They are ought to be knowledgable in their areas enough to answer most of the questions, and to be able to repair the mistakes their department members may make. They themselves are not expected to know everything that each member of their department do, but should still be able to have enough information to guide a new player to being as knowledgable as any other crew member. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Evangeline Du Dancion Character age: 31 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Born in France in March 7th 2428, Evangeline was born with a birth defect that caused her left arm to be underdeveloped, and shriveled, to a medical doctor mother and an engineer father. At the age of four, her parents divorced peacefully, and since her mother was earning more, it was decided that she was the one who were to pay the court money. Her father promply refused the money, only wishing to see Eva often. And with her mother leaning over Eva due to her disability, to keep her away from harm, she always wished her to become a doctor like herself. Yet it was to her surprise when Eva chose engineering as her ambition, after her shriveled arm was amputated, to be replaced by a synthetic one. While in the university of Cerus, studying Atmospherics, she was taken in to be a Teaching Assistant in 2447, under a professor who also originated from France. She stayed in the college dormitories with Mia Parker. As she was showing success in her academics, her mother offered her to be an academic staff member, which was much safer than being an engineer. She promptly accepted, and got a doctorate’s degree in electro-atmospherics, then being employed by the same university as an Assistant Professor. After working for around a year and a half, professors’ monthly salaries were cut drastically, which caused her to resign and seek employment with NT, preferring to work with her close friend, Mia Parker on the Aurora. And after some time, she has pushed forth her application to become a Chief Engineer, to run the station at peak levels of performance. What do you like about this character?: She is rather cold-blooded, and tends to recognize the mistakes of her crew-members as opportunities to learn, rather than blatant errors. She has the harsh attitude of a teacher’s at most times, but makes sure that everyone is safe and distressed. She has an awful sense of empathy, which makes the pep talks and what-not hilarious. She is seen calling Station Aurora “her’s” in many occasions, as if she had developed a deep bond with it. And according to her, the station always requires fixing and upgrading until it has reached perfect conditions. What do you dislike about this character?: Since she is not one to empathise, and is usually seen ordering engineers cold-bloodedly, getting progressively colder with each time she has to repeat herself. She has that thin line for patience, where she gets extremely volatile and infuriated if someone interferes with her work. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: She is disciplined, cold-blooded and experienced in both engineering and command (to a degree). She usually tries to assume command as an Atmos Technician when there is no Chief, and organizes people efficiently. She is incredibly efficient, and does her best to minimize unnecessary expenses, and will strongly advise her crew members to do the same. She is always be prepared, and always believes that proper preparation makes or breaks worlds. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Around 7/10, I’ve directed few events on another roleplaying server on another platform, yet I am still trying to adapt myself fully in the half-mechanic half-RP style of Aurora. Extra notes: Feel free to write to me with your feedback either as a response to the post, or in private messages. Link to comment
Flamingo
Eve is a good atmos tech on a neverending quest to steal my job, and I'm confident they'd make a good chief engineer. They have my +1. Link to comment
tbear13
+1 from me, friendly OOCly, a great character, great roleplayer, and skilled at engineering. You've been interim a few times, and engineering always runs smoothly when you're there. Link to comment
ElChucho
Best badgineer, always teaching the new people how to not blow up the station +1 Link to comment
SeniorScore
What I've seen of em they know their shit, which is more than can be said about some CEs. +1 Link to comment
AllyBearsley
"One sentence response. +1" In all seriousness. No I haven't seen much of Eve on server, but they do seem to know their stuff. However, their character is a bit of a joke to me as mostly an outsider. They sleep a lot. The few times I've seen them, they've gone to cryo at about the 30 minute marks. I do believe I was getting on late compared to them, so that could explain it. Also stuff just happens; however, a Head needs to be there. Also a worrying thing is Character names: Evangeline Du Dancion One character listed. Applying for whitelist with that one character. I can count on one hand how many people have actually stuck around after getting their whitelist in situations like that. Do you really only have one character, or do you just focus on one character? By focusing I mean you play that character more and more seriously than other characters you might view as minor. (I have more questions depending on this answer). As for the rest of the app, it looks pretty good. The bit about the arm is interesting and so is the family making influences. Connected your char with an existing, established, and liked CE is a good thing. Your character sounds like she will be a bit harsh and hard to work with, but will prove competent and able to handle it. I am not completely sure if I can say "I completely trust Eve" but I am willing to say: I think Eve deserves a shot. Especially considering how there are so many mediocre to just bad CE's. More good ones will be welcome as it will prevent me from making the mistake of having a head whitelist. Link to comment
GreenLightbulb
Regardless of how new they may be, Eve/Evangeline have demonstrated time and again that they really know their shit when it comes to engineering. I've also have had yet to have a bad RP interaction with them. Their borg character, E.V.E., is also a joy to be around and is super helpful. I can't speak for how Eva is in regards to her interactions with the other engineers (IE taking on a leadership role in a crisis), but whenever she's around I've noticed shit seems to work out so more often than not. I'd give this a +1 even though you bully me every day Link to comment
Eve
I appreciate the feedback, and I'd like to answer some concerns Ally has stated, as they're pretty valid. They sleep a lot. The few times I've seen them, they've gone to cryo at about the 30 minute marks. I do believe I was getting on late compared to them, so that could explain it. Also stuff just happens; however, a Head needs to be there. I almost entirely play rounds to their entirety, and I am sure other engineering players can agree. You do have a point, though. A CE always needs to be there, and I'll make sure I do not choose it if I think I cannot stay for the entirety of the round. I do have only Evangeline right now that I'd play in a command role. My other characters are nigh all rookies in their areas, as I've most experience with engineering. If I do feel like I wish to play the head of another department than engineering with another character, I will make sure that I can fulfill the requirements. And as you know, if I do not, there already are consequences for that. Thank you. Link to comment
AllyBearsley
Eve I can only go by what I've seen and the few times I've seen Eva on the server, she has cryo'd after barely saying or doing anything. I do not doubt you play rounds to completion, but still seeing a number of rounds makes me worried about your ability to decide when a round is good to join or not. I don't expect 100% attendance or determination to keep to a round all the time, just focus on only playing Command if you are planning to stick around. Since you play other characters, I am way more okay with this app. I fear seeing someone only play one char, get a command app, and then bugger off because command isn't as easy or as available as they thought. Still I must ask will Eva be willing to come on the station as an Atmos Tech should she get clearance for Command? Link to comment
Eve
If you are talking about Eva, not Evangeline, yes. I use the name for my cyborg and sometimes mix it up myself. What ends up happening is instead of playing Cyborg with Eva, (not Evangeline Du Dancion), I go Atmos Tech, and end up cryo'ing to choose cyborg. This happened a scaring amount of five times this week. And yes, I'll essentially do what many of my friends who are also newish into command do, and wait for the round start before choosing CE, in case there is someone more experienced who wants to take the position, even. She is willing to do just what she did before, and I would be more than glad to stick to it myself. Link to comment
AllyBearsley
Evangeline yes, I did not feel like typing the name out to the fullest lol. I like your answers a lot and if I have any further questions I'll send them your way. Good luck! Link to comment
Doc
I play engineering alongside Evangeline semi-regularly lately, and pretty much any time there is a situation, their advice and direction is accurate and efficient. On occasions it's managed to beat back and repair pretty catastrophic situations, and I have no doubts that as a Chief they'd be able to fulfill their duties as needed. I can speak against the concerns of prematurely leaving the round, as I actually can't recall a single instance of this in my memory, having played with them fairly often. Link to comment
Kappa
I've seen Evangeline a lot of times playing as engineer, I never played in the same department, so I can't say anything about that, but I really think that she is able to work pretty well and plays a logic character, so +1 Link to comment
