It feels wrong being ranked above Roadman. Not that I'm complaining.

[Denied] CE application- Bethany Collins
Lohikar replied to rtiger's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
A... human resident of Adhomai? That sounds... unusual. Anyways, you still have to comply with Biesel law if you're working on the NSS Exodus, as it is located in Biesel space. Someone tried a character that was a representative of another company, and I recall the server staff telling them that it was a no-no; I doubt a contractor would be handled much differently. Ah, probably my bad here, but I meant more detail in answering the question, not about your other character. You still didn't quite answer the question. The question is asking you to rate the quality of your own roleplay, not describe it. You've addressed the concerns I had with the other questions, although my in-game opinion still stands as-is. -
[Denied] CE application- Bethany Collins

Alright, first off. This is not a paragraph. Can you elaborate with more detail? Again, not a paragraph. As for your bio, it's worth noting that due to lore changes (Biesel law), characters can only be employed by one (mega) corporation at once. You either work for NanoTrasen, or Aether Atmospherics (which you misspelled). Additionally, your bio doesn't say all that much about your character other than "she has training" and "works well with other employees/synths". Again, can you go into greater detail? Again, this is quite short. More detail? Once again, this is quite short. Can you elaborate on how they're not the best at dealing with AI? This is short and not that informative. Having experience in both "sections" of engineering & scenarios isn't really enough for someone to be realistically promoted to a management position, nor is viewing everyone as equal. This doesn't really answer the question. The question is asking about IC roleplay, not your OOC personality. Now, my IC experiences with your character. I have never gotten the impression you know what you're doing. I barely trust you to do your job as an engineer, I have no faith in your ability to manage the department as a Chief. Overall, -1. Work on your application a bit and improve your performance and attitude in engineering. -
The base bubble shield range is sufficient to cover the entire station, minus toxins test site. Perhaps upgrades could increase efficiency or charge rate? As for preventing leaving the shield on all the time, perhaps a heat mechanic could suffice. Either like telecomms equipment, heating the local atmos; or a pacman, maintaining an 'internal' heat level, causing failure if it overheats.

With the current state of NTSL, $source is not modifiable and broadcast() is non-functional. Often when people want to modify $source they just want to add prefixes/suffixes to names. Currently this is done by prefixing things to $content, however, this is ugly. Adding $prefix and $suffix variables to NTSL would allow people to write job-title (like) scripts, without having the ability to forge senders like is doable with $source modification. Even if $source was made modifiable again, it would be nice to be able to add prefixes/suffixes without getting italicized names.

Well, it would be about the strength of a refrigerator magnet, right? Those aren't strong enough to interfere with modern HDDs.

I tried setting up the generators in the existing command substation, and was able to fit both in while keeping them both powered by the command substation SMES. However, even at 100 meters the projected field doesn't cover the Research shuttle entirely. EDIT: TheGreatJorge remapped the teleporter room and came up with this:
-
Problem with having it in the janitors closet is that it might not fully cover security, even at maximum radius. Maybe rearrange the upload & upload foyer, and use that little bit of area that's currently just space?
-
Where would the room fit in though? I don't think the command substation should be made any smaller, and I can't (immediately) think of a sane reorganization of command that would create a large enough room without stealing some space from the AI chamber or upload. Maybe re-purpose those windowed space areas near the bridge? Other than that, this would definitely be nice to have, and it would be nice to not have to let engineers onto the bridge every shift to install a shield.

[Accepted]Tequila Joe's Head of Staff Application
Lohikar replied to Tequilajoe's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I've seen consistently good roleplay on all of TequilaJoe's characters, their characters are enjoyable, and they seem to have a good handle on the game. +1. -

Aren't custom items supposed to not give you an advantage? RPED does take some resources to make, and I don't think you can make it with base research levels.

BYOND key: lohikar Character names: Riley Finlay How long have you been playing on Aurora?: About 3.5 months. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to try my hand at a leadership role. Why did you come to Aurora?: A friend who plays on the server wanted me to play on a public server, and I liked the idea of heavy RP. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is about putting yourself in your character's shoes, acting as they would in fictional situations; Roleplay should be about acting realistically, while remaining fun and interesting. Roleplay should involve building up new friendships between your character and other peoples' characters, having your character develop and grow as a person. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Heads of staff resolve disputes between characters within their departments, provide guidance to their department, as well as acting as a role model for other players. They should help new players learn their department and the game in general, show other players how to RP in a way that's believable yet entertaining. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players are role models to other players, showing how they should act ICly and OOCly by following rules, demonstrating quality RP, and not behaving in a way that leads to unpleasant or boring gameplay. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Riley Finlay Character age: 43 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Riley was born on August 14th, 2415 in Olympia, Mars. His father was employed by Einstein Engines as a researcher working on improving the efficiency of the company's bluespace engines. Riley's father encouraged Riley to study engineering, in a hope that he would follow in his father's footsteps. After graduating high school with good grades, Riley was accepted into the NanoTrasen Engineering Apprenticeship program, with which he remained for one year before he left to continue his education. After several years of study, Riley graduated from the Olympia Institute of Engineering with a doctorate in engineering. Shortly after finishing his education, Riley's father was involved in an industrial accident in which he was exposed to high levels of radiation, putting him out of work indefinitely. In order to keep the family afloat, Riley's father put him in touch with NanoTrasen recruiters, who offered him a position at NanoTrasen as an engineer on their various stations and facilities. Riley signed the contract, and started work aboard a smaller refueling outpost for a bit. After spending a year at the fueling outpost, Riley was transferred between several outposts, stations and facilities before finally ending up on the NSS Exodus. What do you like about this character?: Riley is cautious, and tries to be a voice of reason in a department notorious for ignoring regulations and common sense. He sticks to his beliefs, and doesn't often act without first thinking things through. What do you dislike about this character?: Riley is often too cautious, and as such is not often thrust into dangerous situations. As such, he often is not affected by antag actions, besides having to assist with cleaning up the aftermath. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Riley has a doctorate in engineering, and 10+ years of engineering experience, as well as having experience as interim chief engineer a few times. He adheres to regulations in all but the most extreme of situations, and is level-headed. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 8/10. Reactions to traumatizing or horrific events could be improved, but interaction with coworkers is good. Extra notes: None. EDIT: Thanks for your feedback!
