In favor of Xander, Skull, his post alone helps him prove his point. He himself had a preconceived notion that an Officer had a lot of authority, more so than the average person. While I agree it is entirely accurate to call them Officers (and sounds much better IMO), the guard title instills the idea that they're protectors. NOT authority figures, as most commonly known officers are - such as that in the navy. All ranks of officer hold more authority than the normal enlisted; that goes for Non-Commissioned Officers as well. I think that's where the mentality comes from. Its fallacious, even.

Instead of address anything else in this thread, I'm going to say that's what I meant when I asked if it'd be okay to have knowledge of Nar'sie and not necessarily by name. More of an idol to worship or serve. I'd like to have something like that added to Tina's security records but after reading the thread I'm still not sure if its okay.
-
Yeah, I'm not sure Tina has enough connections on that chart. You respond to a little harmless flirting and all of a sudden you're the station bike.
-
A thought occurs. Tina got a lot of IC support from some heads and a captain - Ava Kalashnikova, Avery Dawkins, and I BELIEVE Crystal Brookes but I can't remember. A lot of incompetent leaders are hired or promoted because of their connections. IC, Tina could have gotten promoted because of her apparent ability to network. If she makes for an awful head and someone complained about it on the forums, and I lost my whitelist or warned or something of the sort, I would treat it as a counseling/demotion/whatever IC. That could be fun! Thoughts?

Hah. I don't take offense, because Tina has done that quite a bit. It's shifted back and forth between putting her doctor duties first, and personal relations first. It's dependent on the situation but with that kind of responsibility, especially with the tools of power such as the coat, the office, the headset, the access, and the authority, unless the person really is just a slacker it naturally whips them into shape and appeals to their dutiful side and motivates them to BE that role model that the leader is supposed to be. Tina's disregarded her duties before but she's also put them above others before as well, and with that responsibility on her(and my) shoulders we sure as hell wouldn't want people thinking we were incapable of performing our expected duties.

I'm all for roleplay criticism but yeah, I don't feel that antagonist preferences are a thing to go for. I'm not sure if you've ever played with me as a cultist, but I'm not just going around stabbing people in the face. I don't know if that's what you envision if you see me as CMO cultist but I promise it wouldn't be ganking and murderboning.

BYOND key: Tainavaa Character names: Tina Kaekel How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Three months or so. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Options. Also self esteem. Why did you come to Aurora?: I figured if I started playing on the only heavy roleplay server I saw and didn't play too important of a role, I wouldn't get yelled at for being awful. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: I have now. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Role-playing. You take a step outside of your own mind and into another of your own creation for fun. To me, it's acting except you can do it awfully and it can still be great. I believe in basic standards of roleplaying such as minding grammar, spelling, and syntax to the best of your abilities because for realsies, you just don't look competent otherwise. Not everybody specializes in English or its literary side and I don't blame them, nor do I look down on them; as long as they're trying because it's about FUN. It shouldn't just be for the sake of doing absolutely dumb things though, unless it's fun all-around or just makes sense. I've experienced "immersion" and it is very nice but honestly, I'll break some of that to add some fun. Not to say immersion isn't fun - because it is - but I think there needs to be a little silliness too. There's a time and place for everything and you have to decide when you're going to be part of the cast of Drama Station 13, or when you're going to be a part of some crazy Space Japanese game show. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: That question confuses me, so naturally I'm going to pretend I know what I'm talking about. Heads of Staff are managers; administrators. They're the leaders of the their departments; they coordinate team members and allocate resources to achieve the goals of their department in the most efficient manner possible. That includes; making sure their subordinates know what's expected of them, making sure their department is prepared, keeping their subordinates in line and making sure all relevant information is distributed to individuals that have a need to know - above, AND below them on the chain of command. All in all, they're leaders who are directly responsible for all of their subordinates and their department's equipment, and keeping those above informed on the state of their department. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Setting a standard of role-play. That just comes naturally with the whitelist. Not necessarily, but generally anyway. As for striving to uphold them; I don't know, I'd behave like a person in that position? I'm really not sure what you want from me here. I just wanted to have fun. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Tina Kaekel Character age: 27 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): I honestly hadn't thought of a background for this character when I first made her, I just thought I'd use my occult persona on any game. What I do have however, is that Tina Kaekel is a curious Space Pagan™ whose mother was also a crazy Space Pagan™. In fact that's where she got it from. She's all into talismans and traditional Wiccan practice and Tina takes after her for the most part but doesn't identify as a Wiccan because she's a special snowflake but she sure does do a lot of the same things her mother does at home but with a twisted view on what it means to "value life". She grew up a spoiled girl with a well-off family, went to college, and became a doctor. She got an internship during her college years at NanoTrasen and BAM. Here she is. I honestly haven't come up with anymore because, well, I personally don't find it all that important. I made her because CULT. And CULT, she will be. What do you like about this character?: Very cult friendly. Especially when she's a cultist and she behaves like a highschool girl. Reminds me of the creepy little girls from that one horror movie. Especially so when she does it with Ava. I also like that she's fairly naive when she's not an antagonist. I generally like her little quirks, like being afraid of the dark. What do you dislike about this character?: It isn't very often I find qualities I dislike about characters, even though Tina finds a lot of people she isn't fond of IC, OOC I enjoy peoples downsides. I mean aside from the typical "I'm insane, I like hurting people" etc. etc. type of people. I'm not saying she's like this perfectly balanced character because I'm certain she's got a LOT of flaws in her design, I'm just content with it. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff? (Please note that Head characters must be over 30, unless given special clearance): Other than her naivety and neediness, yes I do believe she's fit for head of staff. Why?: She takes her oath and duty seriously, and tries her best to uphold her obligations and I believe that's a big part of it. She's competent and situationally aware, she just needs the POWER. I know that heads are generally 30+ and Tina is 27, but IC I got the support of quite a few people to recommend Tina for CMO including a CMO and captain. Not sure how much that matters OOC, just thought I'd throw it in there. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Honestly I'd say it's meh at best. I also let OOC inhibitions keep me from doing things I think are otherwise hilarious sometimes(not at other peoples' expense of course). Though I know a few people have said I did some cult rounds decently, so that made me happy. Extra notes: I don't care what anyone says, adding space before something and taking it seriously IC is hilarious. Makes me giggle every time. Lighten up, it's a game.

Fun Facts About....well, Ourselves!
Tainavaa replied to incognitojesus's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I met one of my closer friends in my initial Army training. We tell everyone we slept in the same bed because of that. Because we did. I, too, enjoy pepsi much, much more than coke. Dr. Pepper is the best though. I despise Dota, but I've accrued over 1600 hours in it. I was a foster child from age 17-18, literally two days after my 17th birthday. Not going to go into details about how it led up to that point, but I was in the foster system JUST long enough to get the sweet deal of free schooling AND getting paid TO go to school in Florida. Which is another thing that binds me to this shitty state. You have no idea just how giddy I am about the situation, though. I don't have a religion but I do have beliefs I take from pagan religions. No I don't have an athame or book of shadows, no I don't perform rituals; Nothing against pagans that do, I just feel it's unnecessary - it's more the principle and nature of the beliefs rather than the practice that drew me to it. I have studied a bit of Wicca when I was younger; it wasn't for me. -
Skrell Whitelist (Demonofthefall)
Tainavaa replied to Demonofthefall's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I think this server would be better off with a character like this. A scientist dedicated to understanding their profession more AND takes an interest in the make-up of foreign species but at the same time subtly puts herself on a pedestal as "better" than them which may actually be warranted considering her knowledge of the species. I like it. I'd do it. -

I also vote a yes for this. Lucy is a blast to RP with, and with her at a head position I imagine it would open up many doors for so much more research and development than I've seen available without a head's permission.

Demonofthefall Unathi Whitelist (redone)

I'll support this, I had fun roleplaying with Ava in all sorts of situations and I feel that Vulcan wouldn't like Tina at all. That could be fun! -
[Processing] A dagger for ceremonies AND a book for shadows.

Ceremonial hype! -
BYOND Key: Tainavaa Character name: Tina Kaekel Item name: Book of Shadows, (Tina's/Kaekel's)? Consecrated Athame Why is your character carrying said item to work? Tina is a form of space pagan, and her mother is as well. She believes in the type of magic that many pagan religions practice, such as Asatru or Wicca. In carrying her personal athame to work, she is comforted by its presence as at home in her personal rituals, she uses it to channel her personal energy and hopes that with it flowing through the dagger she can project her own energy on others. Book: The book of shadows is dominant in Wiccan culture and I decided Tina would model herself in a witch's perspective considering its open-ended nature when NOT a cultist, though not necessarily Wiccan to maintain a vagueness. Maybe she wouldn't bring it aboard normally but to have it available as a replacement for the Arcane Tome would be immersion-making for me. If not, just having it would be great. Item function(s): Athame: Nothing/Casting Circles/Interact with Arcane Tome(or Book of Shadows) Book of Shadows: Just a religious text (or Arcane Tome replacement) Item description: Athame: An athame used in occult rituals. The double-bladed dagger is dull. The handle is black with a pink/white occult design strewn about it, and "Tina" (OR "Kaekel") is inscribed into it in decorated letters. Book of Shadows: This is a book of shadows. Written in it are the beliefs of a coven or solitary practitioner of an occult craft. (something along those lines) Item appearance: Athame: A double-bladed dagger, not very big. The handle is black. Would prefer some pink or white offcolor to represent an occult design on the handle. Book of Shadows: Uses the same sprite as an arcane tome. Additional comments: FIRSTLY - While the athame IS a dagger, as far as I know, ceremonial daggers are NOT sharpened. That would mean it would NOT cut people, but hurt people as any normal object would in the vein of like a small dense stick or something of that nature. And hopefully with that classification, it's not counted as a weapon. Secondly, I got the idea from the wizard staff I kept trying to get every round. While I thought it DID fit, an athame would fit PERFECTLY for her considering I have her a type of space pagan. She's interested in other peoples' religions, she respects and even admires them though disagrees with them. All of my Tina Kaekels are occult in nature, whether malicious or benevolent (mostly malicious) and never really has the chance to talk about it. She isn't dogmatic, she's accepting and open. I feel that with the athame it gives people a hint and even if they don't ask about it the thought of occultism or paganism will pop into their head at some point. While the athame gives me a lot less chance to center my emotes entirely around it like the staff does, it is - somewhat begrudgingly - a much more fitting item I think. My only regret is that not every single thing my character can be centered around the athame. Update: For the book of shadows, I've TRIED to make it seem vague enough to have some cult plausibility if one were to read it. Since Tina was created with a cult in mind, I wanted her book to blend in with a cultist's. Which might also make for some interesting situations in Secret. I dunno, just a passing thought. To me, what's written in the book could be loosely interpreted as her own light hearted way of viewing Nar'sie. As a cultist, she's interpreted her teachings of Nar'sie in her own vision. As a normal character, it's just her personal beliefs. As I stated earlier, I tried to keep the wording questionable in case one were to read it; as a normal character OR as an antagonist. As of right now, the contents of the book of shadows are a work in progress; I don't know how to finish it or what else I should put in there or if I should put in italics on a separate page describing what's in the rest of the book or whatever. I do however, have a screenshot of what I have so far; conveyed by my masterfully edited MS paint comic-style art. EDIT: Ritual hype.

With what was going on in the round, and how resistant people were being to conversion, I thought that was what Nar'sie would want since I think what was going to be all of the cultists on the station was out getting shit done. Looking back at it, I would have spared Jason at the least, give him a warning or something. In the heat of the moment though, I just saw him as a non-believer along with the rest of the medbay; those who were resistant to conversion. Since then, I've got a few ideas I think would be much better than killing and I think I'll try some other things to see what happens before I go around killing people next time.

BYOND Key: Tainavaa Total Ban Length: Permanent Banning staff member's Key: halorocks22 Reason of Ban: Murderboning Reason for Appeal: Me and a fellow cultist murdered the medbay. This was after quite a while of recruiting and messing around with runes and whatnot. The research director was also a cultist and was sending me messages about "spreading the fire" and uprising and such. I even asked if we would need arms and she said it might be necessary. Then people are yelling over the radio about a demon terrorizing security and a cultist walking down the hall with a decapitated head and glowing sword, and I thought THIS IS IT. THIS IS OUR HOUR OF GLORY. WE RISE. So me and my fellow cultist got our weapons, and we murdered the medbay like I thought Nar'sie and the research director would want. The mod used me killing a fellow cultist as evidence of me just "murderboning". It was Jason Sanders, though, and the only reason he joined the cult was for Tina. He was telling Tina about how he didn't like it, he was scared of what this cult was going to do, etc. etc. throughout the round. When he saw me murdering someone, he held me at gunpoint. The other cultist rushed him and he changed his aim to her. And I rushed him and murdered him, and was like FOR NAR'SIE, BITCH. Without the bitch part. We basked in the bloodshed and promptly left. When we abandoned our armaments, we didn't murder anyone else. tl;dr Everything that was happening in the round was building up to the point of a violent uprising, or that's what it seemed like to me. I didn't intend to just murder without reason, shit was going down in the station and I wanted to be a part of it is all. I was not the only one murdering, and my accomplice cultist did not get banned when we were in cahoots for it.
