  1. I very much support this idea. It is also easy to code(?) This will be handy to have in game and add some spice.
  2. BYOND key: DeadLantern Character names: Lazlo Vesely, Millhouse Ford, Ka'Viax'Likx K'lax, Za'Akaix'Ntx Zo'ra, Kontar Daguur, Sigalov Menawir How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I have been playing on and off since early 2017, but it's been my go-to server since November of 2017. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I wish to experience new roles and situations playing from a command point of view. I have seen many situations in the eyes of miners, sec, med, all having diverse outlooks on life. It's time to do the same with new characters commanding the whole station or a department. Why did you come to Aurora?: There was no other option for HRP. All the others were simply not as fun as other servers such as /TG/ or /VG/. I have always had a thirst for HRP in any sort of game, and here I find the solution at Aurora. It is by far the best HRP server on SS13 and supplies me with great deals of fun. The other servers that offered the same thing just did not compare. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Ok. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplaying is simply living a life that is not yours. Roleplaying is not typing up character sheets on what to do in every conceivable event the character might happen themselves upon, nor it is typing paragraphs of complex words and using skillful language for all the other players to see. Roleplay is being a person you are not. Nothing less, nothing more, no matter how convoluted you make it. And what is Roleplay about? That is for you to decide. No one can demand one singular reason why someone should roleplay and why they do it. There are many reasons why people roleplay. Simply living a life grander than yours, or creating new and interesting stories, or just deriving some fun from doing things you wouldn't or couldn't do. Roleplaying is about what you want it to be. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: For HoS, CMO, CE, and RD, their jobs are to be an experienced player that should have the answers to many things. They should not have just the basic knowledge of the department that they reside in. They should be able to answer any question anyone has, and that is their job. They are teachers and guiders. They should be competent and trusted within their role. You should be able to ask any question to them about their department and they will know it. "Hey, how do you wire stuff without making knots," a new engineer asks. You should be able to say, "Ask the CE," because they should know how to do it. For HoP and Captain, they serve a different role from teacher. They are the organizers. If the Heads of Departments were teachers, the Captain would be the principal--Organizing school affairs and managing teachers--And the HoP would be the Dean--Handling the students and sometimes even the teachers. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: As with Heads of Departments are to their students in their respective department, whitelisted players are the same to those who are not whitelisted. For any whitelist, whether it be for the many Aliens or Command, they should know a lot about what they are whitelisted for. They should be able to answer any question, guide any players, and, well, pass a whitelist. I do the same for Vaurca, a species I am whitelisted for, and I'll do the same with command. Character name: Lazlo Lovasz Character age: 51 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): This peculiar human was born on Xanu Prime in 2409. He was born to parents who subscribed the the old Earthen Hungarian culture. Lazlo, son of these two parents, was naturally inclined to accept his culture. A strict household bent on whipping this young man into shape. Lazlo, did not succumb to these pressures. He was a strange boy and later man, having qualities that forced him to either be waiting like a rock or up like the sun. He was not orderly, unpredictable even. He frequently skipped his classes, not for his friends, no, but to simply take a walk in the urban countryside. He moved around the same way the trees grew and the fox stalked. Even the scoldings of his parents did not let him out from this strange behavior. He seemed more interested with the grass growing rather than the other things he might experience in life. In a choice of what to do, he would often pick the duller, uninteresting things to do. Rather than trying a cigarette he watched birds fly or the construction workers worked away. He crawled his way through school. During high school, he seemed to manage his grades well. In fact, he was doing better than ever before. He found ways to smuggle his antics into school, however. Lazlo had no friends during his youth, but he frequently sought speech with the local animals, and preferred to gaze at the insects in his pocket rather than the teacher in the classroom. When he was focused, however, he did a wondrous job at school. He was unpredictable, deciding rather to focus on school or other things. He managed himself to get a scholarship to the Lunar University of Medical Science with a promise to NT to be employed in its corporation. He got his MD's degree in Surgery and a Bachelor's in Medicine. He was 28 when he got out of college, starting when he was 17. He became a medical resident at his local hospital, and stayed there for 2 years. At age 30, he was put into a small NT mining station as a surgery. Things were calm, and he found that he could do with his antics with the slow shifts on that station. He frequently sat alone, staring at walls in deep thought. Whenever a hard choice came, unlike what he saw in school, he'd simply go on with his antics to mellow himself out. He would go back with a decision made, frequently vanishing to think about these problems. He proved to be a competent doctor, even with these things that he did. After 10 years a surgeon, he was promoted to CMO on the same station. He worked tirelessly to keep his department ready and secure. After he did what was needed to be done, he'd go off and proceed in one of his games. When he was needed, he reappeared ready. 11 years of the same routine, sharpening his skills, he was promoted to Captain by his own request. He was to be transferred immediately. What do you like about this character?: He still has a level of professionalism, but he is still... Strange. He tends to put thought into small things, and frequently just thinks about them only. He mellows himself out by distancing himself. Of course, as a captain, distance is bad. Whenever he is needed, he goes into action, does what needs to be done, and simply relaxes. He's not always micro managing or too distant. What do you dislike about this character?: "Haha! Look at me! I'm so quirky and different!" This is a trap I can fall into when playing this character--Overplaying his quirks. This leads to snowflake characters. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He is flexible, able to reply to many different situations requiring different levels of thought. His unpredictability when it comes to thought allows him to respond to many events, but maybe not as precise as other Captains. He's wide when it comes to solution, but with that level of wideness, he can not be so tight with his solutions. They won't fit perfectly, but they will do. He will put much thought into his choices, and make sure they are good. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 5/10. It depends on the situation and my mood, but I may have a hard time acting like my character. Extra notes: N/A
  3. On Security, I am not fine with Dionae being disallowed from sec officer. But being disallowed from EMT I completely agree. Sec is not all speed--The EMT is.
  4. Please disallow the spawning of those with "God" skill levels, as they are either greifing or dumb.
  5. I do not agree with your Diona Sec suggestion, but I heavily support this one. There is no reason for the Dionae to not be HoP, barring NT discrimination. And NT still allows Dionae to be CE, RD, and CMO.
  6. Just by observing a few rounds of Pikl milling about as one of their excellent characters, I can tell that they're an exquisite, perhaps even Robust player. Pikl boasts knowledge of many things, including RP. My only gripe is that the character seems overdone-- I've seen the character type in not only Aurora, but mainstream media. This type is the: "They came from nothing, and look, now they're cool and have a lotta power! But look--They're also wise because they were poor once!" I hardly believe that Pikl will fall into this trope, however. It is a solid +1 for me. They deserve this role.
  7. The character I am writing about is Bound. This is why, in his name, it is Viax and nto Axaix. I do know that the bound are not 100% unnatural. I put in natural things into the background. And on the point that the backstory is just a view on the day's activites--I wrote it like that to highlight how the Bound think. That they are more complex. To show that I understand that the Bound are more than synthetics but bugs.
  8. BYOND Key: DeadLantern Character Names: Millhouse Ford, Clayton Wilhelm, Seaumus Skinner, Lazlo Vesely Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): RGB: 51, 81, 21 Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Most Alien species in any Sci-Fi medium tend to be... Unoriginal. They're typically an extension of some Earthen creature representing some old moral or political viewpoint. Most species on Aurora, and especially the Vaurca, are so very interesting. The appearance and gameplay may be similar to a terran insect, but their behavior is so interesting. Transcendence and VR, to questions of slavery and what it means to think. Simply being a Vaurca can cause so many interesting situations, and I can't sit here and not experience that. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Playing as an unbound Vaurca, they will have a very different viewpoint on the world. They will have a slanted point of the world, and they will be new to this world. They can either be fresh out of VR or been in reality for a long time, but this work place will always be a strange experience to a 'normal' life they might expect in VR. Vaurca can have so many opinions on the outside world and their own world, it's hard to say how exactly they would be different. When roleplaying, however, you must know that this place is not normal and they will have a slanted view of the world. Playing Bound is a different experience. Simply RPing them as synthetics is not completely correct, and it's very hard to understand how the bound might think because, simply, they don't think. They learn, but they don't understand. They obviously won't be well at communication but they will be good at doing their job. They are meant for one purpose and they are usually trained to do it that way. However, they won't acknowledge they know it. They probably won't speak to you, as well. They don't understand this knowledge, yet they can do it. That is what separates them from synthetic workers. You could have a semi-normal conversation with a bound machine, but not with a bound Vaurca worker. They will never be able to understand things that require sentience. Character Name: Ka'Viax'Likx Klax Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Order. Unbound Warrior. Repair electricity at building. K'dath. In. Warrior. Unbound. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Good. Notes:
  9. If ERP is allowed, may we allow OOC ERP? You may have not heard of this style, (you aurora people know a lot of styles though) and frankly OOC ERP really gets me going if you know what I mean. I like it between staff members and me, but that's a personal thing (I like dominance). I really hope that with this new law coming, OOC ERP would also be allowed for Aurora station. Usually how it goes is a staff member spawns two empty dummies that me and anyone else are transported into, and we begin ERPing as normal ( ;} ). Not as characters, but as fellow members or staff members. ERP is meant for our pee pees to get hard, and this is just one way for it. Thank you! I really hope OOC ERP will be allowed.
  10. Long days have passed since two antags were viable in secret. Now, it is only a single antag per game. Without implementing double antags back in secret, I wish to add Minor Antags. These are simply antags that are not as game-changing or RP-reliant as the main Atangs. These minor Antags are available with every gamemode in secret, but can only spawn if that certain gametype is picked in secret. These antags will not change up the round in the ways as Major antags, and are expected to follow in line with regular NT code. These people will not fuck the station unless RP allows it. They are simply to be a minor conflict, in shadow of the overarching one. Some ideas of Minor Antags: "Lovers" - Two random players on the Aurora are madly in love. These players must protect each other at all costs and must stick up for each other. They may be publicly known to be in love or not. This may or may not affect overarching relationships. One of these lovers may be an on station antag (Traitor, Changeling, etc.) "Renegade" - A random crewmember is spawned with a gun, lethal or otherwise. They do not have a permit for this weapon. They may use it only when RP permits it. They must know that they are breaking NT code. "Looter" - This random crew member is a secret kleptomaniac. The player will attempt to steal low-medium class items (Welder tool from Engineering, Bible from chaplain) when time sees it. They will not go around stealing the decleration of independence. Feel free to add more suggestions for minor antags. This suggestion is only for the implementation of minor antags.
  11. Your application has an extremely shaky start here. I would strongly suggest that you work on editing your character's backstory to make this application stronger. Take what you said you enjoy about the species - their honor, rituals, and society - and form a character based on that. Sorry! Maybe this character would be better.
  12. BYOND Key: DeadLantern Character Names: Harald Ivar, Lazlo Vasaly, Monty Gravehead, Siv Felas, Wesley Nedry Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Orange colored, sandy Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Understood. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I like playing a race that abides by a strict honor code and are not so extremely mechanically restricted or overpowered. They are unique from most other species, with a variety of different personalities as Unathi which is great for the players, rather than a strict set way on how they act. The ritualistic society of the Unathi remind me of the Uruk'Hai from Lord of the Rings, which I love. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Most Unathi abide by a strict honor code and are militarist in nature. They slur their S's and a variety of roleplaying ways will be different compared to a human depending on what kind of Unathi you make. A guwan Unathi would probably be more submissive to people above their rank and more socially awkward than compared a regular Unathi. Female Unathi are also heavily restricted in what they can or can not do, and even on the station, they may still abide to the teachings they were taught long ago. Other Unathi would also treat them as property/child bearers, rather than another Unathi. This sexism may also extend beyond Unathi females, expecting human or other females to have more home-oriented jobs. Character Name: Fotkûrz Lus'horn Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Perhaps it was eons ago a small village family on the outskirts of a now large space faring town settled, to hunt the average family that dared step on their premises. After generations, one Unathi, by the name of Fotkûrz Lus'horn was born. He, like his other 21 siblings, shared the same care for the Unathi traditions of old. To only speak Sintha'Unathi and to practice the rituals that the same family that settled yonder in time did. Lus'horn practiced this with unyielding efficiency and enthusiasm, to the very way he held a sword and slashed his victims in the military, clad in a breacher suit--To the very subtle tones of how he spoke to others and women. It was this he upheld to fantastic regard, much more than his family. He upheld these traditions with almost a religious purpose, nothing like anyone in his family saw. To the very way he stabbed enemies he emanated glory for the Unathi. It was now time for Lus'Horn to take up spreading these traditions much farther than just Moghes--He heard tales of Unathi who ran away from Moghes just to practice their own heretical practice--Oh, how he despised this Unathi. He then heard of Unathi who upheld the tradition even when they were light years away from their homeland. Perhaps he could take on the mantle of spreading his tradition and re-convincing his very own Unathi. This was the life he wanted--To spread the great tradition of the Unathi. What do you like about this character? He is warrior based yet forced to be unwarrior like on his eventual landing on the Aurora. The spreading of his tradition will play a part in his antag and normal life on the Aurora, too, and I know that'll generate interesting RP. And there's always of course the treatment of women. I just like how he is going to be different. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 6/10 Notes:
  13. It is a sad thing to see someone get banned. If they were unbanned, I think they wouldn't make another problem. Simply saying "lol ur bad find another server" won't do anything. Have empathy
  14. Having the relationship between the FT and Detective makes crime-investigating be more alive and great. Simplifying the process only makes it more uninteresting, rather than streamlining the process.
  15. No its deadlantern
  16. I go with the party goes, I am here now.
