There's not one in there right now, so when there's huge meetings and stuff you don't get the chance to see what's going on. Pretty sure our old map holodeck had one iirc.

I can't say I know you or any of your characters, but this is a great application and I really like your backstory. Best of luck! -

I really like Matt Hawthorne, I've managed to talk to him a few times and he's a very believable, rounded character with a nice back story. I've no doubt this player could be a great Skrell. Best of luck! -

I really like Petrovka. She's definitely a believable character and always a pleasure to see in medical, she acts professional and she's still got a nice personality to boot. I've no doubt Lo could RP a cool synthetic at all. The answers here are really nice as well, and I like the 'exodus' traveler finding their way feel that this backstory gives off. Best of luck! -
I love hard >.> one day we'll have a proper RP sesh with eachother. thanks again for the feedback

I really like Mappel OOC'ly, I think they're a great player and have a wonderful attitude. I also had no idea you had a whitelist app up, so advertise more you loser. Aside from being my favourite ghost stalker, I think Masuno seems like a great character from everything I've seen here. I can't honestly say I've had the pleasure of interacting with him a great amount, beyond talking to him briefly as Owl. But if the replies here are any indication, they'd be a great fit for a head of staff. I've also got no doubt that Mappel could create another character and be a fun, great head of any other department if they wanted. Good luck! also brainos I just wanted to say thank you. Your feedback on everything I see is always really concise and informative. It makes me smile to see your responses -
Thanks driecg! I appreciate it. I really like Petrovka haha, thanks for the feedback! thank you! Who do you play? huehue Regardless,Yes I would like this player to be the CMD >.> i have no idea what you're talking about :shiftyeyes; but thanks for the feeds! thanks sonic! Fortunately Kizzy would probably not be a head without a lot of overhauling, which I wouldn't want to do true! I wasn't going to bother until you mentioned it to me, so thanks for that and thanks for the feedback! I really like Lia, she's always nice to talk to when I play Owl I didn't know anybody even remembered her haha. But thanks a lot Mappel <3

BYOND key: Cloud_motion Character names: Kizzy Jenson, Owl, Miranda Steel How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Few years, give or take. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to play as a head of staff, and take charge of departments that often lack one; in doing so, steer them in the right direction and make sure that the round isn't any more painful than it has to be for those involved. Even a decent head of staff is better than none and can really make the round go smoother. Plus it means I get more IC justification to train people, which I do quite a bit and kinda like. Why did you come to Aurora?: Because the characters made here are something special that you can't really find in any other medium, especially interactive in this sense. That, and probably because I'm masochistic to an extent. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: The act of fragmenting your brain into different mentalities and personas that you can somehow unify with a single sprite; of which the hair color acts, somehow, as the catalyst for how you will type for the next two hours. It's the act of placing yourself in another's shoes and experiencing things as they would, reacting accordingly. Generally speaking being someone else. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To help subtly guide the characters and players that make up the story we're all a part of in the right direction, and make sure that the RPs we all know and love are upheld as much as they can. It's great if they can try and be a decent model to new people as well. And generally speaking, a big part of being a decent model like that is making sure that their character isn't hugely snowflakey or otherwise unbelievable; that is to say, remaining level-headed for the sake of OOC and IC reasons, and making sure that they don't make any dumb decisions that, with the whitelist, possibly have the power to ruin the round for others. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Isn't this a similar-ish question as above? Basically to make sure that other players are having a good round and that no dumb decisions are made. I'd make sure that I don't do anything silly that'd end up potentially ruining the round for everyone. And I think that is something I've been alright at this far! Character name: Miranda Steele Character age: 48 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Miranda Steele was born in 2412 to a decent upper-class family of business owners, particularly on the pharmaceutical side of things, as an otherwise unspectacular child. Being raised by Nannie bots in lieu of the parents whom were too busy away on meetings and holidays, Steele was largely left to her own devices. Forced into education and always feeling the need to impress, Miranda quickly developed an inferiority complex; nothing was ever good enough for mom & dad. She worked, and she worked hard, studying through college and university with no real friends or family beyond the superficial, she found herself taking a keen interest in medicine and anatomy. Completing her internship in 2439, she excelled in the anatomy aspect of her newfound work and for most of her years, operated at Biesel General. Compelled to succeed and prove herself to the people who forced her into this world, she became as focused, intent and preoccupied on her work as her family name implies. Myopically focusing on the next goal, and nought but her work, Steele found herself as a resident Chief Medical Officer in 2454. But she grew tired of the bedside manners involved in the work, and seeking something considerably more bureaucratic and otherwise less patient-oriented, she signed a contract with NanoTrasen. 2457 found Miranda working on board the NSS Apollo as Chief Medical Officer once again, only this time she was considerably more motivated by the paycheck, the perks, and the potential for progression. A transfer in 2459 found her operating on the Aurora, where she eagerly seeks out the next step in progression. What do you like about this character?: She's a bit of a bitch. I like the distance she puts across, and her stoicism is a breath of fresh air from my other characters. She's also quite innately opposed to the value of life, again a nice parallel to my others. Miranda doesn't care a great deal about the whole being an intact organic thing, and readily accepts prosthetic improvement, implants, and genetic enhancement. She's a fan of technology and progress, which strangely is an outlook that doesn't seem too prevalent in the 25th century, but I digress. What do you dislike about this character?: Not a lot right now, really. She could probably be a bit nicer, but at the same time that's what I like about her. I think I partially dislike her lack of bedside manners, but this is a medical bay in a research facility and not a stay overnight hospital, so I don't think it really matters too much. One thing that I didn't like massively, and was brought up by Abosh and a few others, was the extent of knowledge that she had regarding things such as Chemistry, but I've toned this back a notch so. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: She's competent and I think to an extent, can command respect when necessary. Even though she's an asshole, she doesn't outright arbitrarily hate anyone, and would happily hear people out if the situation called for it.

Wait, you play PocketBuddy and ASSIST? Those are some of my favorite synthetic characters by a long-shot. Assist is always a blast to be around and shares Kizzy's traits for being bubbly so playing with him puts a grin on my face OOC'ly pretty much every time. Plus Assist is also a very competent synthetic and we're often on the same wavelength when it comes to breaches and junk. He always keeps a level head which is another thing I really like, I just wish I could nickname him ASS so I didn't have to type his full name :/ Definitely part of my engineering dream-team though! And PocketBuddy is also a great, seemingly emphatic pAI who's just a lovely little fellah to be around, I really want to get a pAI one of these days just to play a full round with him. But the character this is about: Rex Winters is an awesome scientist, from what I see and hear. He always seems really competent and knows what to ask for. When I play as Owl, he's one of the few people to call my AI by name and it's really cool when he manages to get the other research staff and me included in his finds; something I can really appreciate. Definitely one of my four favourite scientists for that reason. Plus to boot, he's not daft when it comes to doing things that might be potentially dangerous, such as bringing anomolies on-station, and from what I read in his backstory, he's an all around good character who people seem to like. I've not really had much interaction with him otherwise, considering I don't really science anymore, but I've got no doubt he'd be a great RD. Best of luck! -

Nasser is ace and easily one of my favorite engineers to play with. He's a good character who's fleshed out, with his own nuances, interests (vodka) and believable skill-set. Even though you go afk for coffee when I'm on with you my rounds are always made better in engineering for having Nasser in them. He's defo part of my engineering dream-team. I can't speak for the rest of your characters, but you've already got the Tajara whitelist and the custom item sorted, so I don't doubt you could play an equally great IPC character. Also I like the idea of a mass produced model, and it not being able to physically do any harm. Kinda interested to see how that turns out! Good luck. -

Han is always a pleasure to talk with, and he's a great botanist/service worker. I definitely think Diggey could play an unbound Vaurca and like he says, with time, an unbound Akaix. I think the idea of playing as a poet is also pretty darn cool and unique. Definitely gets a +1 from me -

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that round, that was so much fun! Especially when we were chilling up on telecomms for a bit. Then it mucked up and I somehow got blob infection, without actually having the blob infection. The deathsquad left her behind so she went and sat on the edge of the asteroid to witness her imminent, undeserved, thermonuclear detonation haha -

I do! I love Han, always a pleasure to talk to and he's a friendly guy. He was rocking it the other shift with those bees haha I'll hold you to that but if Francis can't join, then that also means alongside Kizzy, there's another apprentice making life hard. we should team up. haha. But I like what I've seen of Francis though, and I'm certain I remember Kizzy somewhat 'rescuing' Sheila on the surface that time, that was a blast! Definitely wouldn't have made it out without her shoving the baddie haha -

Thanks for the kind words Moondancer! I appreciate it I do haha, thanks for the +1 hombre Who do you play?? Wow. I was expecting a couple of +1s but I definitely wasn't expecting a full paragraph like that. That really made my day haha, thanks a lot for the kinds words Brainos, I really appreciate it. The app was worth it for your comment alone <3 Thanks Ally, I appreciate the feedback on Kizzy as well, I wasn't really expecting anyone to mention her, so It's cool that people have commented on what I'm going for with her haha. Also that apprentice spot is miine thanks for the feedback on the backstory as well, I'll stick in a few extra deets later on then with regards to roles and what-not. I tend to play with ooc off mainly, anywho, though I like to muck around on looc from time to time. Who do you play? -
BYOND Key: Cloud_motion Character Names: Kizzy Jenson, Owl, Miranda Steele Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've been playing synthetics a lot recently, and they're probably my favorite because you actively have to restrict yourself in terms of laws and directives. Makes for a nice change and makes me monitor what I do, before I do it. The idea of playing as a synthetic and having grief with Skrell/Atlas supporters in particular seems pretty fun to me as well. And I feel like even though playing as an AI is fun, it's difficult to get the interaction that you'd get from being an actual mob. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Having directives and laws in place forces them to, naturally, act completely different to humans. They're likely to be more calculating and logical in responses, and emotions aren't going to factor in to anything as much, if at all. Character Name: Owl Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Owl was originally manufactured in 2451 as a commercial product for public-sector and private ship systems. Garnering a decent amount of success, the product was later sold to Einstein Engines in an exclusive contract that expired in 2454, at which point funding ran out for the father-company: Owl Inc. The success beforehand was mainly with facilities that had small crew numbers for extended periods of time, such as long haul ships; primarily due to programming and operating situations, Owl installations were typically viewed as 'one of the crew'. However, due to the rapid and ever-changing market, Owl Inc was quickly bought out and merged with SilverLinings Inc. Seeing promise in the system, the new owners decided to tinker with the personality emulator to impose a less 'organic' and thus more efficient design, in the hopes of more commercial success and breaking into larger markets. To the dismay of first generation Owl users, firmware updates were pushed out with the new design, effectively resetting Owl's personality and interactions with its former crews... and consequently building quite a bit of loathing for the new father company. The Owl baseline as it's seen today is the culmination of eight years work and widespread service. SilverLinings hope to push into the Shell market to reconcile some of the trust previously lost with its customers, in an attempt at a more personal and hands-on experience. As a result, any installations currently contracted with an Owl AI unit will receive a first generation Shell in good will. In contract with the Aurora, SilverLinings only have one active Intelligence, and thus only one Shell will be in operation at any one time. The Shell itself is the arduous end result of work by SilverLinings software engineers, and couples with the somewhat 'mothering' personality that users have become accustomed to. The Shell version of Owl is likely to be equipped with medicinal and anatomical databases, with further capabilities available upon request. Due to the Owl unit itself not being actively contracted or otherwise free from subservience, payroll will not be expected to contract the Shell a wage, or cover any costs beyond equipment usage and maintenance; as indicated in the contract. Furthermore, one can expect the same level of consistency in-terms of directives as a station-bound would be expected to follow. What do you like about this character? I like the idea of playing a character who's software/personality is designed to be everywhere at once in a ship or station's systems, then taking that capability and stripping it down to what is comparatively a severely limited, alpha version of itself. I think it could lead to some interesting situations where-in the character may end up disoriented or otherwise challenged at times. Plus I think playing as something that is more of a product to be sold, used and eventually disposed of allows for some pretty neat existential thoughts on an Intelligence that is otherwise designed to think and mostly act positive. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'm okay I suppose. Never understood why this was on the template. Notes:
-
And yes, technically you address the issue of not having enough content for the job but. I don't really know if keeping the shell is worth it like that. I feel like it is, since it allows for just enough RP stuff to not be completely pointless. Like this shift, for example: A bunch of miners found Xray vision. All it would've taken is a quick scan and they could've been set to normal at the end of the shift. I won't get into how I think that genetweaking should be ubiquitous in this time line or anything but... I feel like getting rid of it doesn't serve much, and better to have it a little then not at all, right?

What about minor powers and switching access to Scientists? Just a suggestion.

[Resolved] Staff Complaint - OneOneThreeEight/Scheveningen
cloud replied to UnknownMurder's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Okay so I wrote a big thing but it didn't go through so here's the abridged version, sorry for the bluntness: I was Charlie Reader, the research member dragging Bit around running diagnostics etc, and from an IC standpoint I didn't see anything physically wrong with wires and so on. Bit, however, was never unlocked since I was dragging it around the entire round whilst it was locked. My argument behind blowing up a cyborg is that from both an IC and OOC perspective they're costly in-terms of resources/research, and when it was locked down no longer being a further harm to crew, transferring it to Central for a diagnostic would make more sense since no doubt they'd wanna see what was physically up with it/otherwise see how it was hacked in order to update based on that and make sure it doesn't happen again in the future. I feel like there were a good few alternatives rather than blowing it up anyway, since it was talking about the nuke. You could've had its radio disabled, or removed the positronic brain from the chassis without fully deconstructing it. I don't feel like you'd kill someone asking to be killed in Security, so I don't think it should be any different with a cyborg which, looking at it from a purely corporate standpoint, would likely be worth more money. Anyway, yeah. I don't play with sound on, and I didn't know they made a noise when they're about to blow up. I think that still, as I was dragging it around public hallways for a good half of that round, a warning should've been issued over the radio that it was about to be blown up. But there wasn't. Anywho, my character bust both of their feet and had a decent chunk of shrapnel in their broken chest. I was also stuck in hard-crit for a while. Whilst it admittedly lead to a lot of lovely RP, this isn't what my ahelp was about. It was more referring to the act of carelessly & needlessly blowing up a cyborg, least of all with no warning/in a public space when it's no longer a physical threat and when there were alternatives available. -
yeah, but the advanced scanner does that anyway. It's very rare that you don't have access to that and need to faff around with a penlight. I think having them spawn in medical storage in a box or something, similar to gloves & masks, is a better idea since they wouldn't clog up pockets.
-
I don't know if endorsements and that work here, but I've had the pleasure of talking to your character quite a few times IC'ly and I think they're really great, so props to you. Hope these items get sorted for you!
-
Penlights aren't used that often and are pretty much useless in all but the rarest of cases, which can generally be substituted for an advanced scanner anyway. Can we make it so that instead, penlights appear in storage or something, in the event that they are desperately needed.
